FA Suggestions!
Posted 16 years agoNo, I didn't write this one. I was trying to, but after 120 hours of processing, I got garbage output.
The goal of this project was to come up with a list of suggested watches based on your current ones. Kind of like how Amazon and Ebay offer suggestions of other, similar items to buy.
Thankfully,
athari has come up with something better. Check out his journal: http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/783725/

FARank update, sort of.
Posted 16 years agoI've finally gotten around to updating the page with the data from April 5th. The data has been there for well over a month, I just never made it publicly available.
http://superwailingbonus.com/farank
I have been meaning to redesign the tables, and I finally got around to doing that this morning. That's why I never released the update. (That, and school was consuming my life.) Now it's a much simpler table design, and will hopefully make automated updates easier in the future.
I've changed a lot of stuff "behind the scenes", but you shouldn't notice anything different. Let me know if anything's obviously broken.

Anthrocon Plans: It's Raining Hats
Posted 16 years agoThe Furducers will be at AC in July selling in the Dealer's Den. We'll be selling hats hats hats hats hats hats and maybe some other stuff. Mostly hats.
Not sure what the pricing will be, but I'll be making "generic" pre-made hats over the next 6 weeks. I'll also be taking custom commissions at the con. Nothing too fancy, though. I might be taking pre-orders to be picked up at the con, depending on time. I'll write something here when plans are finalized.

FARank updates and such
Posted 16 years agoI get a lot of comments about the FARank page- mostly "when are you going to update it".
Now that my schoolwork is more or less complete, I have lots more time to tweak it. I'm currently restructuring the database tables to make it easier to update. Up until now, adding data was... retarded at best. (To give you an idea, up until February or so I didn't understand what a join was.)
Ideally I will be able to automate the update process with a script. It should have worked last time, but something broke and the unix "cat" command erased the file it was trying to read from. Interesting.
I have data from April 3rd that I will be adding soon, once I get all the queries fixed. Maybe I'll get something for May soon?

Bowling videos!
Posted 16 years agoHere's a little something extra to go along with my fursuit bowling picture:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BRwOGD4mxQk
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7r6AjRXJeRk
Videos of me bowling for real. I completely forgot how relaxing that sport is. When I'm on the lane I'm completely focused and can tune out lots of external noises. I even take a deep breath before I take a shot as a way to relax. It's almost like meditation.
I don't know if I'd feel the same way if I didn't do so well. Bowling bad is never fun. That's why these houses oil the lanes so easy. Some of my reactions in the videos are weird because I KNOW I goofed the shot yet I still get a strike.
I used to have a tape from June 2000 but I overwrote it with crap from the TV.
Fun Fact: did you know I used to be a bowling coach? Not really super high-ranking or accredited, but it was still for a kids' league. Basic stuff like here's how you set up, take 4 or 5 steps, end on your opposite foot, follow through, shake hands with the pins.
I've been bowling pretty much constantly since 1992. After I graduated in 2007 I haven't been out much, though. These videos above were my first time bowling since June 2008, not including last week's furry event. Just like riding a bike, it's something that becomes ingrained.

Popufur!

Think of
suits that wear those heart-print boxers
or artists who draw cocks and knockers
do they have real world knowledge?
Don't make me laugh!
They're just popufur!
Please.

FA Rank aftermath & addressing some issues
Posted 17 years agoLooks like everything has kind of settled down from the FA Rank drama. I have about two dozen new watchers since posting that, so if you're new, hi there!
I've received a lot of feedback regarding the project, so let me address it all here.
-I got a variety of reactions to my project, ranging from "I love it, please maintain/update" to "This doesn't contribute anything to the site" to "You're the biggest bastard/troll ever". One of the reactions I wasn't expecting was "I'm really that popular? I really appreciate you all for watching me."
-I got some criticism for the way I ranked users. Your ranking is solely based on who is watching you. I can't rank by favorites, comments, or views, because that would be too much data to pull. Also, your rank has NOTHING to do with the quality or quantity of art.
-For the ones that disapprove of this project, that's too bad. There's no use getting upset over it- it doesn't mean you'll never be a well known artist, or that your art sucks. Maybe you're just new and are a rising star, or you have a narrow focus of work that only a select few appreciate, or something similar. All I have done is collected and organized all of the information that is already publicly available on this site into one, easy-to-digest format.
-Why did I do it? I just finished up a class about data mining and information retrieval, and PageRank was discussed briefly. I decided to do this for FA because it's a site I care about, and it's just the right size. It's more a curiousity thing than anything else. And it's fun to challenge myself, to see if I can do it. Programming is more or less a form of art to me.
-As far as updates go, "we'll see."
It would be interesting to see how users move up or down the list over time, but I don't want people to obsess over it. I'm thinking if updates ever occur, they will be no more frequent than once per week or month.
I am currently talking with some admins to get data directly from the site instead of having to scan tens of thousands of pages. They may or may not approve of it, so just hang loose.
-One thing I would like to add is a "biggest movers" page to list who has jumped the farthest up on the list. This will help draw attention to "up-and-coming" artists. I'm still pondering how to balance it so you don't have that page filled with high- or low-ranked users.
As of right now, I've received nearly 86000 page views from 8000 unique IP's, and most of that was within the first day or so.
If you've got some free time, you can read what people had to say about it here:
http://superwailingbonus.com/farank/pages.php
This page contains a breakdown of the page views per hour. Insert tasteless joke about California wildfires here...

And now, back to your regularly scheduled art!

I am the 10393rd most popular person on FA. How do you rank?
Posted 17 years agohttp://superwailingbonus.com/farank/
I've been working on this project for the last few weeks, and it's finally done: a ranking of FA users by popularity.
Type in your name and find your ranking, or browse through the list of who's who on this site.
Spread the word! Post a link to my site in your journal and tell everyone how much more popular you are than them.

Song meme lol
Posted 17 years agoOpen your Winamp, iTunes, etc.
Step 1: Put it on random.
Step 2: Pick your favorite lines from the first 10 songs that play.
Step 3: Post and let everyone you know guess what song the lines come from.
NOTE: I'm skipping all the instrumental pieces that come up or else you wouldn't have anything!
1. He-he-heat in your skin pull up a chair and unwind dog we don't share the taxi left us behind
2. 本当に本当に本当に本当にライオンだ!
3. Mideul suga obso ihaehalsu obso ottohge irolsu isso
Nahanaran maldo saranghaessdan maldo moduda dojishi osso
4. Take breath deeply and open your arms to the sky
5. さあ 生まれ変わるよ
白い 泡のように
6. エイプリルフール エイプリルフール 4月1日はバカ
7. RIGHT HERE! RIGHT NOW!
8. Free.
9. 心まで照らしてた 太陽みたいになりたいって
10. Shall we promise everyday go to walk in the park?
Shall we promise everyday go to walk without chain?

Oh man this is sad, only nine of these ten are from video games.

watches/favs
Posted 17 years agoAm I going to have to draw some dicks or make phallus hats or something? Hmm... that would probably be the only use for that ugly pink fleece I have. *plots*
I'd like to get more watchers since I know a lot of people like my hats, but I don't know how to market myself. I don't really make myself known at all, so people mostly only find my stuff through the browse feature.
How can I make it so people will know I exist?

RainFurrest Hats
Posted 17 years agoI'm currently posting my hat commissions from RainFurrest last weekend. I'm probably going to have to spread them out over the course of a few days because I had THAT MANY. I had seven hats that I had to ship out after the con. Much love and thanks to all my customers- you more than paid for my trip out there! I hope they all made it safely.
I'm the crazy dude that was making the hats everyone was wearing around the con. I don't know about the rest of the con space, but it got to the point on Sunday where you couldn't look around without seeing at least four hats that I had made.
Due to some weird situation with my sewing machine, I bought a brand new one at Walmart on Thursday night. I did so much sewing that I broke it by Sunday morning!
Before I get swamped with questions, I'm currently NOT taking any hat commissions. I'm booked solid through the rest of the year with grad school, fursuit commissions, and staying sane. Sorry.
I work with
semjay on fursuits, which you can see here: http://furducers.com
If I do open up, I'll post about it here.
Feel free to shout/watch/fav, whatever floats your boat! Leave me some love if you find your hat.

FIRST POST
Posted 18 years agoI have always wanted to be able to draw well, so a while ago I started doodling just for fun. I'll admit, they were pretty crude. I'd be embarrassed to take a peek at some of them. But I'm always trying to improve. Feel free to leave me feedback or suggestions!
My eventual goal is to start taking regular conbadge commissions and earn enough money to get my own set of Prismacolor markers, so I don't have to keep mooching off of
semjay's.
Maybe I'm not at that stage yet, but I'd like to get there. In the mean time, if you have anything you want me to draw for you, just shout it on out.
Current tools of the trade:
-0.7mm mechanical pencil
-a pretty good eraser
-Lots of cheapo, 20lb. printer paper
-Some old black felt-tip marker
-SemJay's Prismacolor markers that I borrow from time to time.
