Philip Kraaikamp Sept. 17, 1942 - Apr. 6, 2024
General | Posted a year agoGoodbye, Dad.
But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words.
1 Thessalonians 4:13-18

Here is proof that Wix utterly blows.
General | Posted 2 years agoI use pale moon as a browser, and whenever I try a Wix site, I get a message that my browser is no longer supported.
That in itself is not the true sign of suckage. The true sign is this: If I go into browser configuration and turn off JavaScript most wix sites work just fine, almost all are at least useable.

My height comparison pages have been copied...
General | Posted 2 years agoI need advice. It seems two pages of mine have been swiped wholesale.
Compare:
Also, on each page, you'll see a link with the text "A page allowing the comparison of up to six figures is now available." That link leads to the following pages:
https://www.comparingheights.net/ --> https://www.comparingheights.net/p/index.xhtml
http://mrinitialman.com/OddsEnds/Sizes/sizes.html --> https://www.mrinitialman.com/OddsEn.....ompsizes.xhtml
If you need any proof that I was the original coder of the second page, near the top of the pages is a link with the following text: "Back to MrInitialMan.com"
Also, the Ko-Fi link goes to my Ko-Fi.
Should I tell them that I am not amused by them swiping my page?

Moving to... where?
General | Posted 3 years agoI just found out that I have until mid-May to find another place to live. And, well... I have nowhere to go.
New Account!
General | Posted 3 years agoSo, I've decided to create a separate account for my music recordings, especially considering how many I've generated from my Hymns 2022 challenge (I have over 100 tunes by the end of the year from that alone).
So, recently, I've done exactly that. My new account is
Blockflute_Bard. Hope it's good on your ears--well, some of the early stuff might not be...

Do any steam punk artists want old brass horns?
General | Posted 4 years agoI have a couple of old horns--a baritone horn and a french horn--that I no longer want to keep around.
They are not good instruments; they don't even have a brand name. They are, quite simply, junk. However, they do have brass tubing, so if any of you steam punk creators want something for a project, let me know.

In A Metal Mood: No More Mr. Nice Guy by Pat Boone...
General | Posted 4 years ago...is the most hilariously absurd album I have ever heard!
As a friend of mind put it, "Could be worse. Could be William Shatner. Pat Boone may be wrong for these, but at least he can sing."

So, would it be cheating?
General | Posted 5 years agoEarlier, I mentioned that I--with Fox Amoore's permission--did an arrangement of his song "A Wolf With No Name" for Recorder Quintet (now Sextet, as parts were much easier to play on Sopranino instead of Soprano).
I know there are other recorder players on FurAffinity; I wonder if it would be cheating to ask one of them to play this arrangement, as I don't think I'm good enough.

HOT TAKE: I think my first prediction will come true.
General | Posted 5 years agoSo, here is footage of Antifa attacking the Democratic headquarters in Portland: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hKaLipDCBBc
The Democrats gladly aided and abetted Antifa so long as Trump was president--but now Biden is in the Oval Office, and Antifa is proving themselves to be a pain in the ass. I have an increasingly strong feeling that there WILL be a crackdown in the near future.
Remember Jenny Durkan, the Democrat mayor of Seattle, praised the CHAZ--until the protestors showed up in her own neighborhood, whereupon she ordered it shut down.
What makes any of you think that the Federal government will be any different?

My predictions of the Biden Presidency
General | Posted 5 years ago1) Black Lives Matter and Antifa will become irrelevant at best, cracked down on at worst. With Trump out of power, those two groups are no longer politically expedient or useful. They had their use, wham bam, now piss off ma'am. The media will sweep them under a rug, just like they sweep anything under the rug that doesn't suit their purposes (like, say, blacks killed by their own kind).
2) The issues Black Lives Matter stood for won't be resolved. Those issues weren't the goal. They were the lure.
3) Biden won't actually be in charge. The guy's almost 80 and, from footage I've seen of him, isn't entirely there. We've had puppet presidents before (Woodrow Wilson after his stroke, anyone?), looks like we'll have one again. He might even resign, putting Kamala Harris in charge. Who knows, maybe that's why he was chosen in the first place.
4) Anything that goes wrong for the next 20 years will be blamed on Trump Even if the Dems are in complete control of both houses and the presidency during that time, it will Never Be Their Fault.
5) Rage Against The Machine will continue to be political whores for the left When were they anything else?
6) The US will continue to be absolutely boned Politics is like a pond: The scum rises to the top. Left wing, right wing, they're so fundamentally different that nobody with a brain can deny they're practically the same thing.
7) Covid lockdowns will become the New Normal and extended as much as possible Already some governors have been saying that people have to "adjust to the new normal", even as small business go bankrupt left and right. Remember: chaos--not stability--is the time for despots to seize power. So long as there are small businesses, this is a threat to Big Business and Big Government.
Why do I have this attitude? Because I'm old enough to remember Bush I, Clinton, Bush II, Obama, and NOW 4 years of Trump; not a trustworthy guy amongst them.
I'm Canadian. I was born in the era of Pierre Trudeau, I remember "Lyin'" Brian Mulroney (Kim Campbell was no more than a fall-girl), Jean Cretin---errrr, Chretien, "Mr. Dithers" Paul Martin, and now that disgraceful milksop Justin Trudeau (who dressed up like a characature of an East Indian once).
No, I don't trust the government.

Many projects, and a major challenge
General | Posted 5 years agoStill working on my website. Just got the characters page to do, and it will be ready to go live.
Now for the challenge that I'm facing. I got
foxamoore's blessing to arrange his works from Canis Major for a Recorder Ensemble. I've thus done A Wolf With No Name for a recorder quintet (Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Bass, Great Bass). My challenge? Actually recording it. I'm a third-rate musician at best, so this is... kind of a challenge.

General | Posted 5 years agoIf this confusion was in favour of Mr. Trump, rather than in that of Mr. Biden, would you all still be demanding:
- Every vote be counted?
- That the loser (in this scenario, Biden) should concede?
- That an investigation into the vote was an embarrassment?

Yahoo Groups shutting down
General | Posted 5 years agoLessee--Verizon screwed up Yahoo Instant Messenger, then shut it down. Then they absolutely GUTTED the Groups, and now they're shutting down.
Why am I not surprised?
If Yahoo Mail is next, I'm going to be GENUINELY pissed.

Something I've wondered...
General | Posted 5 years agoI wonder if it's possible to pre-emptively arrange it so that when I do kick the bucket, my obituary mentions me being "Mr. Initial Man" and "Von Davidicus". That way, those that knew me online would know what happened to me.
Ever been glad you broke something?
General | Posted 5 years agoFor me, it's the cookie jar my aunt gave me.
Now, I have no need of a cookie jar, really. I live in my own house, which I share with no-one (thank heaven; who'd want to live in this dump?), and I don't buy a lot of cookies, nor do I do a lot of baking.
But that's not the issue.
The issue is the shape of the jar itself. It's of a rather portly gentleman enthusiastically playing a saxophone (the head was the lid)--so far, so kitschy, but still not the actual issue.
The real issue was the gentleman was African-American. As I'm white (okay, part White/part Celtic. Yes it matters to purists. Wrap your head around that one) it felt like just having the thing meant I tacitly approved of minstrel shows (which I DON'T) and I couldn't sell it for the same reason. Nor could I toss it because, well, it was a gift from my aunt. And that left me in a quandary that left me feeling guilty no matter what I did.
So, yeah, I'm glad that while cleaning my kitchen, I accidentally knocked it off my counter--now I can get rid of it without feeling bad, and I have one less thing in my possession to feel guilty about.

"You've Got Fanmail"
General | Posted 5 years agoSomeone wrote me about my " interactive height chart" and saying that they've used it for years and cannot imagine writing without using it being pinned in his Quickref Toolbar.
They also said that it's used by everyone they know, and found it hard to believe that it was in my Odds and Ends page on my website.
I'm not sure if he was talking about the new one or the old one but... *Little squee*
Right now, I really needed to read something like that.

End of another era
General | Posted 6 years agoYahoo Groups will stop hosting user-created content on December 19, 2019.
Basically gutting yet ANOTHER good service, though admittedly Yahoo Groups hasn't really been relevant in a while.

Considering a MAJOR website purge
General | Posted 7 years agoNow I'm not purging my FA account, but I'm thinking of taking a lot of stuff off my webpage, mostly my own writing. The Basalt City Chronicles, for example, I don't think I'll even finish, especially now that
GeneCatlow has passed away. The FBA stories were never made canon, so no point in keeping them up (except for the one I wrote for Joseph Davis).
Some of the REALLY old stuff I will keep up, for reasons of my own, but other than that, I think it's time to finally clean house.

A wrestler is in need of AWOOS
General | Posted 7 years agoSo, a pro wrestler I know in real life, Michael Allen Richard Clark, put this on his twitter:
104.9 The Wolf: "How about we get a big wolf howl from you?" wavellstarr "...no."
The tweet is at https://twitter.com/teamflexappeal/.....47269338259457 . Please, would one and all give Michael Allen Richard Clark some nice, friendly "Awoo"s?
Yes, this is a mild prank I'm playing on a fellow who already knows I am a very weird guy. :D

The good news is, I'm still in one piece.
General | Posted 7 years agoA rather battered piece, but in one piece.
I was driving a van yesterday, when I hit black ice, then a ditch, and then the van rolled over. My scalp got pretty cut up, so I have a bunch of stitches in my head and a contusion on my leg, but that's the extent of my injuries. The van was totalled, though.
I also sent a letter to the Mountain View Gazette, saying thanks to the people that pulled over, the First Responders (EMS, RCMP, tow truck drivers), as well as the nurses and doctors who took care of me.
TL;DR Ow, ow, ow, but I'll be okay.
