My new favorite artist: Yves Tanguy
General | Posted 14 years agoToday I visited the Speed Art Museum in Louisville, KY (a fantastic museum to be sure).
As you may or (may not) know I truly love surrealism in art, literature and sculpture. While the Speed doesn't have a huge surreal collection is does have some really fantastic paintings including a work by Yves Tanguy who I'm greatly impressed with.
His non representative style touches me deeply and I find his works completely absorbing. So there ya go!
If you want to see some of his work here's a link:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e87od6xJ_Z4
It's pretty fantastic stuff.
Also at the Speed were works by Max Ernst and Hans Arp, really a treat to have such works (well maybe not close...but at hand anyway).
It was a magical day for me and I think that I have a new direction in which I'll take my art work. :) I hope that you have fallen in love with new art too.
Life is good! Enjoy the Surreal.... for real. ;D
A date of infamy
General | Posted 14 years agoYes the date on which I was hatched to enslave the world and spread Rubberbird domination all over the Galaxy! And that date is tomorrow, July 17.
You may pay proper tribute to me now....yet that still won't save you from conversion and torment; though I might shed a tear as I rip your mind away and turn you into a minion. ____Nah, probably not. ;D
The Age of Stupid
General | Posted 14 years agoA documentary so very scary that I shudder now that I've watched it. This is something I don't normally do or recommend...but a link for you
http://www.snagfilms.com/films/titl.....age_of_stupid/
These are truths that I don't want to consider and this is a very long piece of work and you probably won't watch it. I suggest that you don't really watch it...because it is painful and poignant. I wish that I had not.

Galaxy Far, Far Away
General | Posted 15 years agoA link for all you geeks out there to an older documentary about the craze of the late 90's release of the Star Wars saga...very well done to be honest. It's kinda funny and then becomes quite poignant towards the end, sad in some ways too. Star Wars fans might find this quite valuable, or not. It is at least entertaining.
This was shot at that time and all the energy and frenzy of the period is present. It's quite long so be prepared to commit some viewing time if you feel it is a worthy cause.

Bukaw brother sold!
General | Posted 15 years agoI had to part with Bukaw brother #2 as seen here http://www.furaffinity.net/view/5212855
Because someone had to have him as a gift for their mother-n'-law After a new frame and mat and some re-working...he was looking his cocky best. It was my pleasure to know the bird. Now I've gotta find a home for his brother. Can't keep a good rooster down. ;)
Thanks for listening. :)
Minos out!
Rubberbird Christmas
General | Posted 15 years agoThis is just so cute. http://www.furaffinity.net/view/4977341/
It's like a must have stocking stuffer. Be warned, you might be the one stuffed by the Rubberbirds! >:}
Much thanks to
rathkinstealthwing for such a pleasant surprise. :)Another cel sold! :)
General | Posted 15 years agoOk you're probably getting tired of hearing me brag...but I just can't help it. Today (12-20-10) I sold another cel painting! This time is was my frog and fly picture http://www.furaffinity.net/view/4065355/ I'm so blessed by this and somewhat humbled too. A wonderful lady came to the office and bought that frog n' fly right off the wall. I considered this one of my best, most cute, pieces and the one in which I hit a confidence mark and proficiency milestone in truly "knowing" how to lay down cel vinyl paint with ease. I need to paint more paintings now, I'm running out of them. This makes the 3rd cel paining I've sold and 4th framed art-work total. I could get used to this. :)
Heh, Thanks for putting up with my horrible bragging.

I sold another Cel painting!
General | Posted 15 years agoI have truly been blessed again and today, yes this day! I have sold another cel painting. The best part of this is I actually got to meet and talk to the wonderful woman that admired my work, so now I know who's home in which my colorful fish (er "her" colorful fish) will be hanging!
This is the second cel painting I've sold (this one privately and not in the FLOW gallery) and my third piece of framed art to be in other people's hands and hanging on their walls! I have to admit that this is one of my favorites too.

Time for me to get to work painting more! :)

Robotic Hello Kitty
General | Posted 15 years agoPlease forgive me for introducing your eyes and ears to this most terrible sight!

May the Gods have mercy on my soul.
Yes it's cute and the robotics are impressive. Perhaps you'll have a dancing Hello Kitty in your home one day? *shudders*
Legend of the Guardians
General | Posted 15 years agoWell I just saw the Legend of the Guardians in 3-D ...and just like everybody is sayin', it's a damn fantastically good movie. It's well directed for 3-D and nicely thought out. Quite a violent movie too, with strong evil characters (that I love) and strong good characters.
Over all I have to agree with everyone, it is a movie well worth seeing. I was totally drawn in, locked down and watched every second of the superb digital rendering. (Every feather was perfect!)
If I weren't already a rubberbird/rooster...I'd be an owl, because let's face it; they are sexy birds.
So there's my movie review!
I could tell you more about it, but the only way to truly appreciate the scope and talent in this movie is to see it for yourself.
Minos has spoken. bucaw!

Empire of the Rubberbirds the sequel
General | Posted 15 years agoAgain I'm indebted to the fantastic wordsmith that is
mootraccoon He has surpassed even his first vision of the Rubberbird/Garakai Empire, a feat which I didn't think could be done.
If you'll remember his vision of the rubberbirds triggered a couple of illustrations out of me and even more wicked thoughts of enslavement and servitude under the "not so gentle" talons of one Yygonaugh, Archon of the Garakai Empire and a very proud and sadistic bird to be sure.
So, to that end I wanted to mention that Moot has just posted the sequel that takes us further to the heart of the Empire and the intrigues that lie within and what it's like to be a slave under the control of those most beautiful (and dangerous) avian-kind, the Garakai.
You are commanded by Yygonaugh (your Overbird) to read it:

I suggest that you do as he says. >:}
Empire of The Alien RubberBirds
General | Posted 16 years agoAs some of you may, or may not know. I've done a little series of inks and digital pictures centering around some wicked creatures known for their love of probing and assimilating "inferior" races of beings; these aforementioned creatures we admire and love (and fear) as "The Alien Rubberbirds".
Well the Empire has a fantastic supporter in the form of
mootraccoon who is just about one of the best writers that I know in this genre'. I'm greatly honored that my esteemed colleague in bondage admiration wrote a piece concerning said birds of probing.
This piece: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/3318182
has totally fleshed out the birds in such a way as I could never have imagined. Not only is this some really vivid and succinct writing, it's quite subtle in its eroticism and very tastefully done.
So inspired was I by Mootraccoon's writing that I had to draw a concept picture of the main character in his wonderful story. http://www.furaffinity.net/view/3321955/ It's a very rough sketch to get me all warmed up for something special, since I'm in such love with this character, Yygonaugh, created by the wicked coon himself.
I'll say no more since the story really speaks for itself. If you like rubberbirds...you're going to like this Sci-Fi short story.
Dramatic Chipmunk is Back!
General | Posted 16 years agoOk, I didn't know what to expect with this one. __and then it floored me.
You need to watch this all the way through. ;)

Perspective
General | Posted 16 years agoWell now, we're not the center of the universe after all. Here's a very interesting short film that kinda puts things in focus.

Cutest parrot ever
General | Posted 16 years agoYeah, I have to admit that he is pretty dang cute.
I mean I almost doubled over from the sweetness therein!
http://www.maniacworld.com/cutest-parrot-ever.html
Ok, it's happened again.
General | Posted 16 years agoI swear this will "nearly" be the last time I write a journal about this...but I had to tell someone. I sold another art piece here locally! You'll remember my Halloween Skull? http://www.furaffinity.net/view/2926571
I sent a few people the picture, via email, and low and behold someone wanted to buy that sucker. (And just when I framed it and was going to take it to the FLOW gallery this weekend) Darn. Looks like I'm going to have to come up with more art, since this one didn't even make it to FLOW. Get this, the picture is going to be a Christmas gift. Gawd, I just love that. :)
Ahem, sorry to splut all this out, but I'm excited as you can tell.
================
Another thing, too, that might interest some of you. I've really found myself attracted to Surrealist art. I mean it's just an amazing, emotive, often deep art form.
Here's a neat link if you want to see a lot of really fantastic Surreal artwork. Some of these people are just incredible and visionary.
http://beinart.org/index.php
Among one of my favorite artists to date (I'm new at this surreal stuff) is Chet Zar.

His work is pretty SO damn creepy that I can't stop looking upon it. Thing is...I'd be afraid to hang it in my house because the images are disturbing and I'd be constantly checking to see if the image was still in the frame, or out looking for ME!
Thanks for listening.
P.S. I promise I'm not going to brag too much more about selling a picture. It's just that....heh, it's nice to be loved. :)
I sold one!
General | Posted 16 years agoOk I know it's wrong to toot one's own horn and all that, but I just had to share this with my friends here.
I actually sold a painting from the local Community Arts Center the next town over! Yeeeehaaawww!
You might remember this little number below:
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/2261002/
Someone so loved the puffin (and his infectious cuteness) that they plucked him off the wall and actually bought him to take home!
I was kinda in shock because I went to pick up the three paintings that I left at the FLOW gallery months ago. __and to my surprise they told me that one had sold the previous week! I was like. *blink blink* "Holy
Crap!" Somebody actually likes my stuff! <3 Strangely enough the check for the painting came in the mail today too.
I have already been painting on some new works to display, as soon as I can I'll post them here. Wish me more luck!
Thanks.
A Change for me
General | Posted 16 years agoWell my dearest friends on FA, I have a little announcement to make for anyone that wants to hear it.
For a while now I've been thinking it was time for a change for me. To that end, I've now adopted a new fursona/persona. It just doesn't feel right being avian anymore (I love birds and always will, so don't get me wrong)! I've felt my "chicken-ness" dropping away a long time ago and it's time to put the ole' cockerel to rest.
So from this point onward I'm going to identify myself as (wait for it) Yeah, a prawn from District 9, a movie that has had a profound effect on me and I'm sure many others.
To all my bird buddies out there, never fear I will be doing more avian art in the future...but there's SO much more to do. It's just time for my evolution.
The fabulous, one and only
Dissever was kind enough to do a commission for me to create my character and give him form; and she did one hell of a great job. If you haven't watched her, you need to get your tail in gear and do so!
I'm keeping this short so that's it. Thanks for your time and patience.
Cat food, anyone? ;D

Hatch-Day
General | Posted 16 years agoYes, I'm gonna "crow" and let you know that it's my hatch day today...it seems everybody else mentions the fact, so I thought I would too.
I know you meant to get me something. Didn't you? ;)

Mr Wonderbird
General | Posted 17 years ago Here's a strange cartoon for you:
http://www.archive.org/details/The_.....Mr._Wonderbird
This is a quite nicely done French animation begun in '52. Really it rivals Disney and goes beyond for its time and quite serious theme.
I love the bird and I'm probably going to pencil his likeness to my pleasure if I can get a good look at him. I'm such a bird whore!
The art direction in this film is pretty stunning and the perspectives are amazing. It's very much worth a look for the art alone. Of course I'm pretty attracted to Mr Wonderbird...but you knew that I would be. ;) Except that he has the quite annoying voice of Peter Ustinov, which I find rather grating and unfitting...but still the work shines through.
It's a pleasure to see works like this still around and preserved on the internet for us all to enjoy.
