Apartments - Things to consider...
General | Posted 14 years agoSo, I thought I would share what I told someone about looking for an apartment.
If you're in the market for an apartment, here is a list of questions/advice to consider.
If the past 5 years of apartment living has taught me anything, it is to do your homework! These are questions/advice I wish I would have had, and this would have definitely changed my choice in an apartment had I known:
Be very careful/weary when you look! Most of the time when you "walk-through" the apartment with the apartment agent, it'll be during mid-day when everyone is at work and/or the quietest time of the day. I'd even suggest "staking out" the place you think you want to live by driving by/walking around the place on a friday/saturday night and spending a few hours sitting in the parking lot with the windows cracked just surveying the environment; is the parking lot noisy, is there bass coming from the building your potential apartment is in? Does the seemingly empty parking lot during the day when you saw the apartment completely jammed packed by 6-9pm on week nights? Do a lot of people have loud bass speakers and blast them in the parkinglot, does the apartment face the parking lot, what kind of windows does the apartment have (alot have crappy single pane glass), do they help for sound insulation, or can you hear someone fart 30 feet away in the parking lot (true story!) Is your neighbor a sex offender, the apartment complex is most likely required by law to tell you if you ask. (The reason I say this is because I found out one of mine is 2 years after I lived there! Put the address of the apartment into https://www.familywatchdog.us From my experience this usually is an indicator that they generally give little shit if they wake you up at 2am in the morning with their horrible choice in music and generally are shitty kind of people you don't want to live around). You might think noise isn't that big of a deal, but there's nothing more annoying than hearing an indistinguishable bass beat that is coming from an unknown location, especially if you're resting at home from a long week at work. Other questions, what is their policy on monitored alarm systems, does the area mandate you need a permit to operate one, can you even have one? What is the apartment complex's policy regarding noise complaints? (Our apartment complex has a 3-strike and you're out policy, meaning if someone has received three noise complaints after a warning from the complex each time, they get evicted; I have yet to see this policy actually implemented though, and it is important to specifically ask WHEN and HOW MANY TIMES the complex has implemented this policy; and yes, they know, so don't let them bullshit you into not telling you.) How are the apartments set up, does the bedroom of one apartment back up to the bedroom of another, or is your bedroom wall sharing with someones home theater in their living room on the other side? Is there in-unit laundry? I thought not having in-unit laundry wouldn't be so bad, but in fact, it really sucks! Dead of winter I have to put the clothes in my car, drive over to the laundromat, dead of summer too, not fun; not to mention cleaning out that mystery lent ball of pubes from the dryer god knows who uses.
There are a ton more questions too, this is just a little chunk of the iceberg I have learned after living in an apartment for 5 years.
TLDR: If you're looking for an apartment, take the time to read everything above and make a list, you'll be glad you did.

General | Posted 14 years agoSo this journal is in relation to http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/3146772/
So, to sum up an update, basically told my dad, and he was shocked about it, but ok with it and is still coming to my graduation :D
And I'm summing up several emails and such, which I may elaborate on later, because some good questions came up regarding how that plays into religion and what not.
Overall, a good discussion, and one less thing to worry about now ^^

MTV.. >_>
General | Posted 14 years agoSo I get a youtube message from someone claiming to be from MTV looking for furries to do an episode of "True Life".
Uhm, anybody else get this message?
Uhm, anybody else get this message?
What to do! The perfect storm of epic family proportions.
General | Posted 14 years agoSo, I'm finally graduating in May with my doctorate, and I realized a few things as I was sending out the emails to family about the ceremony and such.
1. My dad & grandpa on my dads side are going, they don't know I'm gay... and I'm petty sure they will not be happy to find out.
2. My mate and his parents are going.
3. My mom and her husband are going.
4. My dad doesn't know my mom got remarried, and I'm pretty sure he will not be happy to find out.
5. Not really sure if I should break the news to my dad now... or just wait.
This just sounds like a perfect storm (and also like an episode of 90210).
Kinda stressful thinking about it, not quite sure what to do! XD

FAIL
General | Posted 14 years agoSo, this company I'm in the process of looking at, sends me a link to complete an online assessment.
The online assessment link is only good 24 hours from the time it's sent, pretty time sensitive right?
This email is sent to me 5 minutes before their site goes down for maintenance for 24 hours...

Warranties... Again! :D
General | Posted 14 years agoAnother yay for warranties, am starting to think I got a lemon!
I'd say mmm lemons, but then the inevitable lemon party joke would surface.. and I'd respond with "Brings a whole new meaning to sprite" and then people would not be happy, plus :x!
Anywho, rotation going smoother, *crosses digits* Watch tomorrow be horrible now that I said that :D
Hope everyone is doing well, sorry I haven't been around much, been busy with this whole rotation thing, saving lives n such!
Also, I've had a few questions about FWA so far, so let me say officially here, sorry ott & I can't make it!
I'm finishing a rotation the thurs and fri of FWA, can't miss those days, and it'd be way to hectic to get to atlanta for that one. My spring break though is the following week, and am thinking of doing something fun, but dunno what yet :)
Maybe otter and I will take a cruise or something, god knows we need one!

Ugh...
General | Posted 14 years agoFirst three days on rotation at this hospital... it's gonna take ALOT to be able to deal with this bullshit, My "instructor" and I had a debate on what goes where in a patient note, which is so minor and insignificant in the grand scheme of things I can not believe it was an actual serious conversation. Pretty sure that my days will be spent busting my ass, doing not-required overtime, and still being bitched at for stupid shit.
I got 4.5 more weeks of this x.x
Oh, and being told I didn't say something when I know I clearly did, or being told I said something at the wrong time, which I know I clearly did not... then having a conversation with a student who ALSO has this same person indicating this instructor doesn't listen to what you say half the time... FML

Warranties
General | Posted 14 years agoTook my vehicle in for a few minor things to be fixed (couple of lights in the stereo out, weird sound when I hit the air recirculate button, etc.) Turns out to fix the weird sound, my entire dash has to come out.
Thank goodness for car warranties, 2nd trip to the dealership and my warranty has pretty much paid for itself in labor.
They also gave me a free rental :D Pretty impressed with this place's customer service.
Any who, when purchasing a vehicle, definitely get a warranty!
This is only the second vehicle I have ever owned, and both times, the warranty has paid for itself.

Fun Weekend :)
General | Posted 14 years agoHoly crap fancy dinner!
General | Posted 14 years agoSo, ott and I went to this dinner tonight at a dinner club for his work and uh... wow.
Long story short, one of ott's clients is a big time best seller author, and that's how we got invited to this very very ritzy private dinner with the author's close associates and family to celebrate the release of another novel as well as Christmas.
We're talking wait staff dressed up with white gloves, they push up your chair, and put the napkin in your lap, formal 3 course dining with a ton of different silverware for everything, and food that had to of come from heaven.
The food was so pretty too, it almost felt like a crime destroying it's grandeur by consuming it.
Was definitely the best meal I have ever had, and so proud of ottr for obtaining such a notable high profile client like that. @_@
What an excellent night :D

Busy Time of Year!
General | Posted 14 years agoWell, got almost every weekend from here on out booked!
Christmas will be traveling to family, spending that weekend with them.
New years will be hanging out with a bunch of furs in Alabama. Road tripping with
shadee
onai
keyla and we're gonna ring in the new years furry style with
bdever
goldenwolf2879 & crew. Should be a good time and am looking forward to seeing everyone again; sometimes cons are too far apart!
Still need to assess the 2012 con situation, just am trying to figure out how my new job and that will work out and all.
Ideally, I would like to make the following:
FWA 2012
FCN 2012
MFM 2012
MFF 2012
But we shall see! It all depends on getting a job (waiting to here back on my interview, wish me luck!) and what my vacation situation will look like.
To all my friends, I hope you all have a safe and happy holiday season

Squick the cashier! >:D
General | Posted 14 years agoSo in my preparation this weekend for the upcoming work week, I bought the following:
(will have to sleep during the days)
A sleep mask
A box of ear plugs
3 mega cans of Lo-carb Monster
Upon leaving, I thought I would have gotten a better response from the cashier had I bought some condoms.
Oh well, maybe next time!

Rookie mistake!
General | Posted 14 years agoHaha, so, I was supposed to get up at 5:30am, well, I woke up at 6:15am. I had to be at the hospital which was 40 minutes away by 7am... upon further investigation, I set my alarm clock for PM instead of AM... DERP-DE-DERPA-DERP-DERP! =p
Talk about waking up and being like... oh shit! So dressed in a hurry while my cawfee brewed, then flew out the door.
7am is too early to be somewhere anyway, wolves are night creatures!
I made it on time, but I prefer my mornings to not be so stressful XD

Halloween House
General | Posted 14 years agoSuck...
General | Posted 14 years agoSo I'm stuck with this guy who isn't my actual teacher all week (today marks day #4 of this..), and all he does is belittle other people, including myself, about every 5 minutes. Thinking about not going in tomorrow because #1 I don't get paid for the work I do #2 Not going to learn much of anything working with an asshole and #3 Paying thousands of dollars to be there to learn; not to be belittled or put up with unprofessional bullshit.
