LEARNING TO FLOAT - ANIMATED SHORT
Posted 2 years agoTake a look at this animated short, but be swift, on the 19th at noon (EST) it supposedly will no longer be available. (WELP, looks like their claim to remove it on the 19th was a ruse :) )

Will Ryan
Posted 4 years agoHaving gone through dealing with cancer myself it saddens me to find out Will Ryan passed away from cancer on Thursday this week.
For those who don't know the name Mr. Ryan is know for voice acting and music.
In my case I know his voice as Grubby from the Adventures of Teddy Ruxpin.
Farewell Mr. Ryan.

Beastars
Posted 4 years agoI'm sure many of my watchers know about Beastars. I'm also reasonably certain that those people know the new season just came out.
Does anyone else feel like they're screaming at the screen every time Legosi and Haru are having one of their semi-awkward conversations?
"Damn it Legoshi! HUG HER!!!!!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!"

Brain unmount
Posted 5 years agoWelp, my brain chose to close down this afternoon.
It wants to listen to the Bee Gees.
I lived as a kid through the US Disco era. And yuh know, I wasn't a giant fan of the musical form and didn't mind that by the very end of the decade it'd declined.
But for some reason today I just want to hear the sounds, think of the giant cars, corduroy pants, gigantic lapels and eat peanut butter flavour Space Food Sticks.

Hello darkness.
Posted 5 years agoHello darkness, my old friend
I've come to talk with you again.
Because a vision softly creeping
Left its seeds while I was sleeping
And the vision that was planted in my brain
Still
Remains.

Gauges
Posted 6 years agoA couple of weekends ago I took my car's gas gauge sender out to find it has had its float arm wrapped all around it. I wish I'd taken a picture but I think I was so flabbergasted the thought didn't even cross my mind. The fix for a non-functioning gauge seemed obvious.
Unbend-unbend-unbend.
Check it with my gas gauge. Push it up, reads full. Let it fall, reads empty!
Figuring I'd solved the issue I install it and drive the car for the next two weeks.
Friday morning, September 7th 8:50 AM, Southbound morning traffic at a stoplight. 3/4 of a tank showing on the gauge.
ppfpftfttfttfptptpf f. f. f.
0000 ENGINE RPM
Well, I don't think it's reading correctly. CRAP!!
Limp the car to the curb abusing the starter. Turn on 4-ways
Grab the 2Gal can of gas I keep in the trunk JUST for this possibility. Add about a gallon. Put it back, close the trunk.
Get back inside and crank until gas gets to the carbs and off I go.

The day when your parents are getting pretty old and their health appears to be in decline.
I got one of those emails today from my little brother whose family they are visiting.

Welp, I was hoping this stuff was another five years away.
Sorry for the bummer post, I just needed to say something to unload my brain.

Merry Christmas all
Posted 7 years agoWow, I didn't make very many journals this year!
I'm relaxing rewatching some anime (Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid 小林さんちのメイドラゴン). An amusing bit of animation. It inspired me to make Omurice even!
Anyway, with the Bay Area overcast, I've been thinking back-in-time of bitter temperatures, snow, shovelling said snow and dead car batteries.
I know some don't aren't crazy about this time of year in the northern hemisphere, or it's heavily commercialised holiday.
I've spent many a year working retail, and it's a miserable time to be making a living in that market. Thankfully I'm disconnected from that aspect at my current job. Other than business people trying to spend the last of their yearly budget on a project there really is not the usual surge in traffic retailers see.
Over the past year, the biggest deal for me was having my 22-year-old vehicle fail its inspection and the cost to get it to POSSIBLY pass was going to cost significantly more than the value of the truck.
So it got donated and I've been looking for its replacement since then. I've been playing with the idea of finding something vintage that doesn't have to have its emissions checked.
Anyway, on this lovely cloudy afternoon in northern California, my mind wanders to snow that crunches like Styrofoam, bitter windswept nights on Christmas Eve and driving on frozen roads to and from Church.
For myself, winter and Christmas bring very warm memories.
AND odd as it is, horrid cold, snow, dead batteries and shovelling sounds remarkably appealing.

Most popular videos . .
Posted 7 years agoI find it odd that the top two videos on my youtube channel are:
1. Installing 9004 LED Headlamps in a 1996 Nissan Pathfinder R50
2. Coyote barking in the night, you will see nothing, just sound.
These two videos account for 40% lifetime, and 73% for the last 365 days!

I know it's not my usual journal post, but with the events of this past weekend, I can't let it go by without at least an animated comment.

The lee of the stone
Posted 8 years agoMy roo has been away for a couple of days so I've been watching movies in the evenings that I've not watched in ages.
Tonight I watched The Secret of NIMH
I'd forgotten how very dear and lovely this movie is. It's one of those movies that I can't watch without a tear in the corners of my eyes.
While it varies from the book (Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH) a LOT, that still doesn't take away from my enjoyment.
I find Elizabeth Hartman's role as Mrs. Brisby so wonderful. It pains me how her depression eventually took its toll in 1987. I'm virtually certain if she'd hung on till the early to mid 1990's as furry fandom REALLY took off that she would have had enough fans to raise her spirits.

Year in review.
Posted 9 years agoTruncated year in review.
Life events this year were challenging, probably the most so in many years. To recap I was diagnosed with kidney cancer in the first half of the year, had the offending organ removed mid year, and recovered for the trailing months. The scar ‘Tummy Symbol’ ever slowly fades, the lumpy scar tissue at one end has gotten smaller.
Hopefully I will not have to go through that again.*
So, new year, lets hope it’s FAR less bumpy than 2016!
*It’s not that I didn’t get awesome care, both from my Roo and the medical professionals, I certainly did.
I think; unsurprisingly, I don’t care much for being catheterised, cut open, twiddled, snipped and sewn. The pain was manageable when things were going as planned. The resulting shock to my digestive system was intensely uncomfortable. Basically when your innards get fiddled with, things like your intestines just stop. I had constipation like I hope I never have again. I was impressively distended. A mere cough was excruciating when combined with my incisions. Getting up from a seat, awful, literally rolling out of bed and getting vertical, toiling with gravity.
