Changing accounts! New handle and more!
Posted 9 years agoHello there watchers!
I'm sending you this today to let you know that I have begun the arduous task of rebranding myself. This means I will no longer be known as Muddy91, Muddyixi, or any variation there in.
My new handle from here on out will be Trishields.
You may be wondering why that name, why Trishields? What's wrong with Muddy?
Well, basically, I've wanted to rebrand myself now for a long time, but I always knew how much work it would be, given that literally everything is/was previously tied to my alias, Muddy91. But, something has come up, and I have decided to make a new email address (nothing bad guys, dont worry!). Because I will no longer be using Muddy91@hotmail.com, I decided to do the rebrand now, since I have to change everything anyway.
Muddy91 was my very first email, that I made at the tender age of 13.
I am 28 now, and am moving on.
Professionaly, it is a typical tradition of artists who grow out of their younger aliases to adopt something closer to their actual name.
My name is Trish Shields, as many of my friends and clients know. I have simply merged them into Trishields, which gives me some interesting chances for a new logo design as well.
I *will* be making a new logo, but I would like to state first and foremost that my old logo (the one featured on this submission) is still mine, and may not be used by anyone else for any purpose. My new logo will be posted on all of my new sites.
Also, please bare with me as I go through the process of updating everything. My commissions website may not be working properly as I get to updating it with the new handle/branding.
Here on Furaffinity, you can find me at:
http://www.furaffinity.net/user/trishields/
To my clients, many of you have referred to me as Muddy, Muddy91, Muddyixi/Trish shields, Chaffen and others on the commissions I have done for you. Don't worry, this is fine, and you wont have to change a thing! But for all future commissions, or where you refer to me from here out, please refer to me as Trish Shields, Trishields, or Trishields14, as those will be the most current.
My new contact email address is Trishields14[at]gmail.com
Please come over and continue watching my art! All new art will be posted there on that userpage, as this page will not be updated any more beyond this point.
This account will remain up, however, so that those of you who have faves/comments and the like, will not lose those, however, i reiterate, no more current content will be coming out of this account. If you want to see new art and new, updated prices on my commissions, you'll need to hop over to the new account and watch me there.
Hope to see you all there!

Thanksgiving Updates
Posted 10 years agoHappy November everyone!
Well, we're over the hump of Halloween and in that comfy, cushy little space between candy and fruitcakes. The month where everyone spends all their money on gifts for loved ones, loses their mind over sales and eats entirely TOO TOO much good food.
I have a few updates that I'm going to be announcing here:
Vacation time:
Its been a while since I took proper time off, I work just about every day except for fridays. This means that my only day to do stuff for myself is fridays or, after im finished working on work days. Anyone who knows me that usually on work days I work off and on all day on weekdays, which makes getting personal artwork done difficult. Especially since, on my one day off, I don't always want to spend the whole day doing art. Sometimes I want to just RP, or play an MMO, or go out with my husband.
It has been over a year since I have had more than one day off, properly, basically since my husband lost his job last november.
So, from the 21st to the 28th of this month, I am taking time off to work on things I want to do for myself personally. Commissions will be delayed during this time, but I will be getting as much done as I can before that. After the week (and thanksgiving) is over, I will be resuming my typical work schedule to be putting work out regularly.
Sales:
It has been a habit of mine to announce sales I'm having one to two weeks before they happen, but I have decided not to do that anymore. From now on, Sales will occur without being previously announced. All sales will be announced on DA, on the day those sales begin, as well as on my website, http://muddy91.weebly.com/commission-form.html and possibly my Tumblr page: http://muddy91.tumblr.com/
Why am I doing this?
Well, partially because my last two sales didn't go over huge as I expected they would, which tells me that announcing them beforehand doesn't actually bring in any benefit or any more business.
Also, because I noticed a trend where in people who were wanting to buy art for me were deliberately waiting on commissions so as to purchase during the sale. While this makes total sense (and I confess I have done it before myself) it also essentially causes me to have to wait for money, and when it comes, its less money over all. This might seem a little greedy on my part, but let me explain. This leads me into my next topic.
Prices:
A large part of the problems I face when regarding commissions is that I am not actually being paid adequately for my time. Most of you who know me know that I pour hours and hours of time into every commission, perfecting, tweaking, doing revisions. It likely does not surprise many of you that I am not even being paid minimum wage for the work I put out.
This is something I need to change. Doing art and being an artist is an intensive job, despite how 'easy' it might seem to some people, it's anything but. Art is a luxury, which means that art always comes -last- when people have funds, just like going to the movies or visiting a theme park. These are the things that get dropped first when people run low on funds. It is not something that anyone HAS to have to survive, which naturally makes my work a little stressful in that, I never know how much money I will have coming in, or if the money that does come in will be enough to cover the things I need.
Luckily, my husband's job pays for our bills, so I am in no immediate danger, but for some artists, this is not the case, at all. As a whole, freelance artists in my field, who cater artwork to individuals in the creative, role-play, OC character design community have a really bad habit of under-pricing themselves because the community says "This is too expensive" or "I don't have money for this." I have been guilty of trying to keep my prices lower than their worth to cater to this community as well. This has become a BIG problem in our community, as in I see an under-priced artist almost every time I browse.
Let me start by explaining that this is a business. I do this because I need money. Like you, I want to be able to buy art myself, or go out, buy nice gifts for my friends and family, but sadly, this usually is something I simply can -not- afford to do, and that's in part because of my prices. Moreover, as I said, art IS a luxury. Art takes a lot of work. It is not easy for me to take your character that you love and throw them into a scene composed out of your mind- not easy at all. I should be properly paid for this time and effort. The quality is good, and for better quality items you pay higher quality prices, just like in cars or furniture or clothing.
Many of my friends have moved to hourly commissions, and though this is something I would like to do, I do not yet know how I would properly implement it, so for now, that is not yet on the table, but you should expect it in the future. Moreover? I may not just be charging minimum wage. Minimum wage represents having graduated highschool, basically, but I have years and years of college education behind me, which has improved my skills, my color theory, my graphic design. A professor I once had said that I should be charging $20 an hour for my work- and yes, guys, she saw my artwork. Now consider that I put around 8 hours into almost every fullbody I do. $45 isn't so bad after all, is it?
Don't panic! I'm not going to start charging you $160 for a fullbody. But, I will be adding some changes to how I price commissions. This is starting with a complexity fee. Obviously, some characters are more complex than others, and require far more time to perfect than others, and more time = more money. Moreover, over the next few months to year, I will be working to level out my prices on the things that are severely under-priced right now, to bring them up more to where they should be. I understand that for some of you this may be upsetting or even alarming, but please trust me when I say I am not doing this deliberately to shun you or cause you distress. This is something I need to do, for me, and I hope that ultimately you will agree that my prices will reflect the skills, and the art I am offering you. Naturally, I wont be telling you which things will be going up in price exactly, or when that's happening. but suffice to say that if there is something you've been wanting, you may want to buy it soon if you hope to avoid paying more than you'd like to.
I would also like to take this point however to say that I do accept payments in installments, which is really how I get paid for most products, and is largely easier on a lot of people.
I am hoping that by 2017 (Yes, NEXT-next year) that all my prices will be where they should be, though I do make an effort not to raise prices too often. Naturally, as my skill increases, the prices will reflect that too.
Terms of Service and Conditions
Though I don't have a whole lot to change, I have reworded my Terms of Service regarding private, non-commercial commissions and clarified some things, so those will be getting updated as well, but possibly not today.
When updated, you will find them here: http://muddy91.weebly.com/terms-of-service.html
I will be announcing the new ToS when they're up.
In addition, but later on, I will be uploading whole-new ToS conditions for Commercial Commissions, as they will not be treated the same as private commissions.
Adoptables
Many of you know that I've been trying to get rid of my adoptables so that I can bring in nicer, newer ones. Ones that I feel more accurately represent my skill.
As of today, all of my current adoptables, Visible here and here, are $2.50. That's right. Two dollars and fifty cents. Two. Dollars. And fifty. Cents.
However, there is a catch.
At the end of two weeks, that is, by the 21st of November, every adoptable that has NOT sold will be removed.
Yes, you read correctly.
Removed. Deleted. Thrown into abyssal storage. No longer available.
Officially buried.
Gone.
Forever.
This is because I no longer want them, and I no longer want to display them. I want to clear out those folders and start out with new adoptables that are less themed, less specific, adoptables that are more one of a kind and as I said, more accurately represent my art and my skill, and hopefully land a stronger client base for adoptables.
Let me know your questions and comments!

Commissions Open and Adoptable Sale on now
Posted 10 years agoI still have a few commissions on my list, some of them sizeable... but for some reason both clients aren't responding to me.
As I am in dire need of the funds, I have decided to open commissions for new ones, so that I at least have something to work on while I wait.
For starters,
All Adoptables and Premades are on sale for $5 each. Yes, thats $5 for one (as opposed to like, $10 or $15).
You can find all listings here:
http://muddy91.deviantart.com/galle.....09220/Premades
Ignore the prices on there themselves.
One might wonder why I'm letting go so cheap? Well, frankly, I don't have as much a clientbase for Adoptable as I'd like to, and they've been sitting around. I'd like to get rid of em, all of em, it order to start anew with fresh designs and bases, since I'd grown in skill since then. Please note me on THIS account if you're interested in one... or two, or all of them. idc.
Currently I only expect to do this sale for a week or two.
*Please buy them. Really I don't care what you do with them please just. Do it.
As for commissions, I will only be accepting a few, and yes they are first come first serve, no more than four, currently, until my current clients either get back to me or the commissions are postponed.
In order to commission, fill out this form:
http://muddy91.weebly.com/commission-form.html
Commissions will be stuck in line in the order the form submissions are received.
Please be detailed in your forms, and I would prefer if you did not send NSFW material as your references, but I will accept them if that's all you have. Please be thorough in your description, as it'll make it so I don't have to ask so many questions. Please be ready to answer communication via E-mail however.

Emergency Commissions Needed
Posted 11 years agoI'm not exactly sure how to begin this journal. I don't really write them often enough to feel like there's a certain way I should start, or any real convention as to the way it's constructed; usually I just put up a journal when I feel like I have enough updates to throw out there.
Today is no exception, except that I write with a bit more urgency than prior.
As some of you know, the last few weeks have been for me, and my husband both, a bit of hell. Combined issues with my mother, my husband's co-workers being a bunch of jackasses and overall entirely unfair towards him, the stress of large projects and midterms, and trying just to get by through all of this without imploding.
Friday, my husband was in an accident while on the job- a Courier for a popular delivery company. He's fine, luckily, but his employers, being the geniuses that they are, have decided to fault him for the accident, despite that it was not his fault, and even the insurance agrees, as well as a witness, all agree it was not his fault. This, in addition to a few clusterfucks that have been going on for a couple months- thanks to his lacklustre co-workers and his couldn't-care-less boss' training methods, my husband is now out of a job. Our only source of income is gone. Our health insurance, which I personally need just to get by, thanks to having rather Severe asthma which costs me approximately $100 every 1-2 months, is gone. Without it, that number will jump up to $280 every 1-2 months at best, but possibly more. The income that was allowing me to get through school, barely, with financial aid, is gone.
Yes, he has already filed for unemployment, we are waiting to hear back. I have more or less been forced to cancel the spring semester I was going to attend for being unable to pay for supplies, and parking, and gas to actually attend. Already he is frantically looking for a new job and has already submitted several applications. In time, I will likely be doing the same, though not likely until after the semester I am currently in is over. In 45 days, if he doesn't have a new job, we will likely tap into our 401k, which will give us a few months to get by, if barely. Needless to say, Christmas isn't happening for us.
Beyond this, I do not know what to do. Our entire life plan was based around this job that he was just forced out of. It was going to pay for everything- school, our cars, and eventually, an apartment so we don't have to live with my mother; a point that some of you know I was eager to get on with. We did eventually plan to move out of state, but now, I have no idea when, or if, that will ever even happen. Naturally, being the control freak that I am, I am very scared, and paranoid over what might happen, or that this is happening at all.
Needless to say we have cut out almost every single unnecessary expense that we can afford, leaving ourselves basically, with JUST WoW. Luckily, furc is free, so Ill still be around, especially since most of you furc players, as wacky and amazing as you guys often are, are currently our only form of income, and I need you now more than ever.
SO I am leaving this here as... Something. A silent plea for help, if you will. As of this moment, I am accepting any and all art commissions of every kind, any size, erotic or pornographic, busts, waist ups, flat colors, RPR graphics/ frames/headers, you name it, we'll negotiate it. Likewise, I no longer have a limit on how many commissions I will take at a time, as this is effectively becoming my job for the next several months, probably. I am even open to dream commissions, and am looking into selling a few of the dreams I already have pre-made but never use. Please let me know if you would like to see them. I'm also open to making custom dream patches for those who need it. Please message me.
Please pass this message on to your family and friends, or anyone whom you think might need art, or even just, anyone who might be able to help, as I would appreciate it very much. Thank you for taking the time to read this far, if you have.
