So...I passed my state boards and have been conferred the title of RN... Registered Nurse. What a long and difficult road this nursing thing has been. Finally I can get settled, get the next chapter of my life going. Just thought I'd share. I'm damn proud.

Generally speaking, people tend to have a 'defining image' that comes to mind when they think of a particular artist. Maybe it's one you can relate to, maybe it's the image that first introduced you to their work, maybe you just feel it was their absolute best, so it sticks out in your mind. So when ever you think of a certain artist, this image pops to mind.

So, I am curious, which of my works comes to mind when you think or hear of me?


This actually relates to something that's been on my mind. I've been thinking of changing my featured submission, but wasn't sure what I'd change it to. This meme might give me some ideas.

I don't usually share much about myself publicly but it has been a year since I posted about this. A year ago today, someone or someones murdered my father.

No arrests, no apparent leads and no a single call to the tip line despite the substantial reward. My father was murdered in his own home. He was clubbed to death with a wooden chair.

Police believe his heinous act was carried out by two attackers.

It hurts almost as much today as it did a year ago. Murder doesn't just steal he life of the victim. It steals pieces of the lives of everyone who knew and loved the victim. I've spent so many hours trying to make sense of it all. This has destroyed our family.

I don't just have to come to terms with dad's death but with the notion that with every passing day, the odds increase that I'll never find out the answer to my biggest question.

Why? Why did they do it?

Today is not an easy day, but there is one thing that's certain. I will never stop loving my father. I will find peace with this...but not today.

So...I'm currently in the process of moving from Ohio to Texas and have been packing things up and throwing things out. In the process of packing, I discovered one of our two chest freezers in the basement seems to have failed.

When did it die? Wayyyyy too long ago.

How did I discover this? I opened the freezer. When I saw water just roll off the lid of the freezer, I thought "Uh Oh." I closed the lid but it was too late. The putrid stench of...putrifying meat punched me in the face. I stumbled backwards and went back upstairs. The terrifying miasma followed me. My housemates Ramseys and Lunarwolf knew exactly what I found as I got to the top of the stairs.

So...200 or more pounds of beef and other frozen foods have turned to a ghastly slime. I need to figure out how to get that freezer out of the house with opening the lid or spilling the contents. The freezer itself probably weights 200 pounds.

So...my missing bag has turned up and basically appears to have everything in it still. Certainly everything in it that I cared about.

Who took it? How was it found?

Well...there's a story still to be unravelled. Really, I just care about the found. Everything else can remain a cosmic mystery for the moment. When I know more and have the bag in hand, I'll be singing the finder's praises and telling y'all more.

I cannot express how awesomely relieved I am to receive word that my bag has been found. The art supplies don't mean as much to me as the original art inside. That art appears to still be there. That's what matters to me.

What a mix of good and bad. More extreme in the good and bad this year than most years. I met some great people and it was good to see old friends. I helped a good friend run his table some. It was for the Shard role playing game-- an anthropomorphic fantasy RPG that's pulls from ancient India and China. There are giant insects and alien jungles that have a Nausica kind of feel. We sold out of rule books on the second day. That was quite excellent that the interest was so high, but it sucked that we didn't have enough books to start with. Sunday, someone stole my bag in the lobby of the Westin. This bag contained all of my watercolor paint and many of my my markers. Probably 200-300 dollars worth of art supplies. There was a small sumi kit as well, a gift from Tiggress.

In addition, there was art inside. There was a sketchbook with art in it by Fishyboner and a piece of gift art someone commissioned from Fishyboner.

Did any of y'all at the con see anyone with these originals?

I am? You are?

Here's a question for all you painters out there. What do you use to protect and seal your watercolor paintings? The local Hobby Lobby has sprays made by Krylon for sealing acryllic and other companies seem to have things for oil paintings, but what do you yourself use? What do you recommend? With art going in the AC artshow, it would be nice to protect it from a sneeze or someone's sweaty fingertips.

30,000 page views. Damn. Well thanks y'all. It was only last June that I had hit 20,000 and so I just wanted to say how much I appreciate all of you who watch, favorite, and comment on my work. I'm glad I can provide something that keeps all of your coming back for more. Its nice to be able to do my own thing and have people actually like that thing.

I also want to apologize to those who at 20,000 hits did not get what I promised them. Especially TORA whom I owe a badge somethin' fierce. Its coming. So be on the look out.

I have to say it been one hell of a year. My father's death(still unsolved), mom almost dies 3 times in the space of a month, problems with school and just...problems.

There was a lot of good that happened. I've made some great friends, and discovered through my tragedies just how lucky I am to have such good friends in my life. Thank you everyone. Thank you even the strangers on this site who offered their condolences and support in my darkest time.

All that strife leads to growth if you choose to become stronger from it. I've grown as an artist. I've grown as a person. 10 more weeks and I'll be done with school. I've figured so much out about myself this past year.
