General Reminder (Respost)
Posted 9 years agoThere is something I have been wanting to do for a long time. I have been known as Mushi for quite some time despite the fact that I retired that character and suit years ago. I have had a chance to move forward with my life and identity in the fandom but not my business. I always had too many commissions stacked up, too much going on, and a growing fan base I didn't want to confuse but I came to a realization. I have tons of watchers, I however have very few fans who actually know my work or follow my work and while that stings a bit, it does give me the freedom to make this change.
Mushi Magic Fursuits has transferred to a new name
WHEN!?
This happened Jan 1st. I posted about this for the months leading up to the change but reminders are good.
WHY!?
Because I have spent many years as Mushi Magic and I want the chance to grow professionally. I have wanted to change names for quite some time now and now that my queue is finally being taken care of and I have the luxury of time to build up again, I want to make that change. I haven't been Mushi for years.
WHERE!?
I will not be changing my twitter or anything else, I can simply update the names. I will be making a new website and am hiring a coder to do a handy price guide that allows you to check the options you want and get an approximate quote on your project. Really none of this should be a drastic change since all it requires is for you to check out another account.
The new account here on FA is
butterflybackfursuits
But I have a suit from you now!
You are absolutely still welcome at my photoshoots and still part of this little weird fursuit family. Just because there is a name change doesn't mean I have changed. I'm still me, still eager to make my customers happy and making friends along the way. Your warranties are still in tact and you will be treated the same as always.

Mushi Magic Fursuits is going to be transferring to a new name. I have been working hard to create a stable product and now that I'm finally starting to define my own style this is the perfect time to make this change.
WHEN!?
Over the next few months I will be posting work here and on the new FA account with links to the new FA and new website. On January 1st all activity on this page will stop and my new account will be the new active one. I'm not going to deactivate this account. I will leave it up so people can see my past work and I will be making a gallery specifically for all of my older works.

The account is pretty bare for the moment, a new logo is in the works and will be based on my sona. Expect to see more changes to it quickly.

Room For Rainfurrest
Posted 10 years agoAfter many years of suffering through delta flight experiences I have enough points to get myself a free plane ticket to Rainfurriest. I'm looking for a room to stay in, sadly the hubby won't be able to make it this year so I will be going on my own. I will be bringing one fursuit and would really appreciate a bed. I don't think I need to say this but just in case, I'm married and monogomous so no funny stuff please. I'm looking for a room that isn't a party room and won't be jam packed with a ton of people. I would prefer to be there from the 23rd to the 28th (day before and day after) but I am open to other dates. I would prefer to be in the main hotel as well but I'm not going to be picky.
IF YOU HAVE A ROOM PLEASE NOTE ME AT

As stated before I may have many watchers here but I have few actual fans who follow my work. I have more than 3 thousand followers but each suit gets maybe 200 views, not much to write home about for someone who has been building fursuits for 10 years. So this marks the change, I'm going to focus on making better, more stylized fursuits that look the way I draw them. Thanks for all the support over the years and I look forward to seeing you on the new account.
Anthrocon 2015, exactly what I needed
Posted 10 years agoJust got back from AC 2015 last night and I'm feeling better than ever. It seems the convention was exactly what I needed to remind me why I got into this fandom and why I started building suits. It's been hard to get into the furry spirit as of late, not much going on in my life to help keep me in touch with the fandom or my fellow furries. Anthrocon was the first time I have worn my fursuit since Halloween and it was awesome!
I got to meet up with my good friend

The photoshoot went very well, we had 8 turn up but one had to go for family reasons. Also go a chance to see some of my other suits that didn't make it to the shoot later. As always, it was a pleasure hanging out with all of you. You are what make my job what it is. It warms my heart to be a part of your furry world.. guess you are all kind of like my kids haha.
We suited a ton, it was a great way to retire Rio. This was a great last convention for this version of the suit. Sic and I suited everywhere together, arm in arm. So many people stopped us and asked us if we were married and for some reason the fact we are made us all the more cute. It was fun and seemed to add a touch of normality to being a furry for all of the non furries we met, it was something they could connect with and even helped overcome the expectation that we are both deviants just because we are furry. I think I will make cute wedding rings to go on our suits in the future. AC for us is married con after all since it is where Sic and I met 7 years ago and where he proposed. I think the best part was that for the very first time, we got to leave the convention and go home together. ♥
Pittsburgh, how I love you. The hubby and I have been talking about it and have started considering moving to PA instead of WA. We love being on that side of the country that much. I miss the trees, the nightlife, the city all of it. Looks like this Montana fur is looking to be a city furry soon.
Thanks again for a great year, thank you to all the fun people who chatted and made this a great con for us.
MM fursuiters photo shoot Anthrocon!
Posted 10 years agoOnce again I'm excited to announce the Annual Anthrocon Mushi Magic fursuiters photoshoot. I want to invite all Mushi Magic fursuiters, new and old to take part in this awesome tradition.
5PM
Friday the 9th
Meeting place is the headless lounge in the convention center. (We will head out at about 5:20) Once everyone is ready we will head towards the balcony as we always do.
This year's photographer is the talented

Please bear in mind that if the suit has been refurbished or altered beyond it's original appearance by a third party I will ask that you not attend the photo shoot. This is specifically for Mushi Magic originals. Your suit must be a Mushi Magic fursuit, some additional parts by other builders are acceptable so long as the majority of the suit is primarily created by Mushi Magic, especially the head since it is the most iconic part of a suit.
Look forward to seeing you there!

Reminder, weekend art commissions
Posted 10 years agoI'm doing some weekend art commissions to raise a little money for Anthrocon. If you are interested here are the details. http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/6852372/
Weekend Art Commissions
Posted 10 years agoWith anthrocon right around the corner and work being completed I thought I would take this coming weekend to do an art commission stream. I have been working hard to finish my backlog of suits and while that is good, many of them are already paid off so it means that I'm a little short on funds.
The stream will start at 12 PM (Mountain Time) every day and end around 5 or so. I will be accepting PG art commissions with the following prices.
$5 Sketch: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/6831651/
$20 flat color: Example http://www.furaffinity.net/view/12645875/
$30 shaded: Example http://www.furaffinity.net/view/12637804/
Anything with a tip will get extra attention and care.
I'm pretty much looking to make a couple hundred bucks to afford my luggage, shuttle and food comfortably.
How to Buy!
Please send me a note with the following.
Reference, what you would like drawn, the amount you payed and your paypal email.
My Paypal is mushimagic@gmail.com.

Mushi Magic Photoshoot (photographer wanted)
Posted 10 years agoThat's right, it's time to make this happen again.
For the first time since our engagement Sic and I will both be at anthrocon ready to tear it up!
We need a photographer, someone who can provide past work and references. I want to make sure everything is perfect. We always have our shoot in the same place every year on the balcony towards the end of the convention center.
Fursuiters, if you intend to be there let me know. I need to know how big to set up our reservation for the 3rd annual Mushi Magic suiter meet. Everyone 21 and over gets drinks on me and we all sit around and have a great dinner together. Anyone not 21 and up is taken out for ice cream at baskinrobbins on me.
Comment below if you are a mm suiter who is going to AC and wants to be part of the Photo shoot and meet.
Random uplifting story time!
Posted 10 years agoOn Halloween I decided to go around in suit most of the day. This included picking my husband up from work. He is the manager of a shop downtown so it's a great chance to suit and have fun with the vanilla people. I show up and he tells me that they dumped some extra work on him so he has to focus on that for another our or so, I'm a big girl so I went to entertain myself. I go out in suit and start strutting my stuff around but there is a school near down town and the main city shops do a thing where they give out candy to the little kids and it turns out that is the same time they were doing this little crawl. I'm dodging ropes of 5-8 year olds who have been told to keep together and while i'm not looking a tiny little hand shoots out and grabs my paw and refuses to let go. I didn't want to be involved, last thing I need is someone thinking I'm a pervert in a costume looking to fiddle their kiddies so I tried to get away. The little girl cries and I let her have my hand back, I look up at the parent next to me, trying to gesture that I had no idea what was happening and she just says in the most creepy voice "I guess you are part of this now." I ask her "Do I get a choice?" She smiles and simply says "no."
The kids were trying to guess what adult I was, which teacher of course while little Elsa drags me along in her blue dress and tiara. She had to be 4 or 5 and once the kids were sure who I was they blurted it out, some male teacher. The little girl says in the sassiest voice you have ever heard "She's a lion DUH" and continues to drag me along saying that I'm her lion now and that I could protect her from all the bad kids. That was pretty cute. She thought I was a lion, not a person. One of the kids make sure to inform her I am indeed a person and she says nuh uh, she can roar watch. Put on the spot I do my most convincing roar, being in a metal group meant I have the nastiest growl you could ever hear and it made those kids jump! Elsa looked so proud.
The kids ask questions and so do the parents, apparently no one in MT has heard of stranger danger because despite the fact I had a mask on they were all quite comfortable. I guess it was because almost everyone in MT is packing heat. I helped the kids cross the street and things like that, standing in the middle of the walk way to usher them across "when the little white man shows on the light." I was kidnapped by Elsa and ended up being a nanny. At one point my tail was being used to make a chain of kids, doesn't bug me, my tail is attached to the bodysuit and reinforced, they weren't going to rip it.
We walked all the way up and down main street and I was dying by the time we got back to the crossing for the kids to go back to school. The teacher tells everyone that the lion has to go and say goodbye to the lion, none of those people knew who I was but they had seen me and other suiters at the mall for our bi weekly meet there so weren't worried, we always gave them a good impression. I knew public exposure helps! Little Elsa gives me a hug and asks if I will come back next year and I nod. She kisses my nose and says happy Halloween then I was on my way.
That is my cute story. My whole town is pretty open to furries. Hell lots of them know me out of suit now too and ask me sometimes if I can wear my suit for their kids parties. Not everyone hates furries.
I still stand by the idea that you should never interact with kids without the parents permission, never go to an event without calling ahead to be sure suiters are ok and never suit alone if you can. Safety is important.

Q&A Video update
Posted 10 years agoOk I'm actually doing fun little short animations to include in the video and hopefully make it less talking heads like so feel free to ask any more questions and I will put them in.
Extremely important for commissioners
Posted 10 years agoIf you are a current customer of mine I need you to read this. I was going through my back ups of files and realized that when my previous hard drive died the back up I did did not make copies of a lot of my files. Sadly a lot of art, photos and information was lost. All my PSD's *cries*
Anyone with a standing commission with me please send an email to mushimagiccustomers@gmail.com.
I will give you a form to fill out with your commission information such as sizes and specifications mailing address etc. It takes 5 minutes but it makes sure that everything is in order. Thank you and sorry for the inconvenience. Sometimes computers are not always your friend.

Q&A Video
Posted 10 years agoI'm doing an update video on thinks and I thought I would include a Q&A section
If you have any questions about MM fursuits I would be happy to answer them. They can be somewhat personal to purely professional. I will not answer income questions, sexual questions, questions about my customer's private info and things like that. No politics, no religion, none of that. But you can ask me personal questions about things like "Why do you do what you do." "How do you feel about X" and junk.
What has been going on will already be answered so keep them pretty simple.
I will include your screen name with your question, if you rather remain anon then make sure you say so ^^

A little bit on medication
Posted 10 years agoI spent more or less a year being off my pills. I watched everything I had worked for slip away. I have severed ADHD that progresses into depression, anxiety and more. I tried very hard to get by without my medication, to "beat it" but that just didn't happen and my work and customers suffered for it as well. I am not proud of the position I am in, I'm not proud of being so far behind but I am back on my pills and making the effort.
If you need medication it is nothing to be ashamed of and if you are happy with your life while you are on them, do not let others convince you to change just because they don't agree with the use of medication. I have met many people who tell me that they have beaten their issues without medication and without counseling or what ever would be the common course for their problems and I am sure many have. However, being someone who can't do that just through sheer will does not make you weak, it does not make you flawed. If you need your meds then you need them and that is just how it is, I know many wonderful people who are skilled and intelligent who need to be on medication.
If you are anti meds, that's fine. You have the right to find happiness in your own way and if you need your meds, don't be ashamed of the fact you use them because I have also met many people who say they don't need them and they have never beaten their issue as much as they like to think they have. I do not want to play with a handicap personally and I find no shame in doing what I need to do to be my best. When I am my best, I am Mushi Magic the fursuit builder, proud, confident, creative, driven and strong it's all in me it's not the meds they just help. I would rather spend the time I would spend learning to "cope" being at the top of my game and accomplishing things in my life rather than just trying to get by with my issues.
Never be ashamed of who you are if you give it your all and always try to be the best you can. No one can make your future but you!

Back
Posted 10 years agoWell that was a great way to start the new year. I hope all of you had an awesome Christmas as well and a happy new year.
I did get everyone's messages about me updating them on their suits and I will do just that ^^
I need to help with some bills, Hubby just busted his tooth all up so I'm going to need to pump out a couple of premades really quick but other than that we are finally in a position where money is not an issue and I can just work on my back log. I'm going to be closing for new commissions until the queue is cleared and then when I'm caught up I will see if I want to open up again. I might just make premades for a while after because I have so many awesome ideas for suits and I just have to make them.
Big changes for my work this year will include:
Resin bases
Smaller queues
Price changes and new discount options.
Partials only
I'm going to be taking smaller queues now that I don't need to pay thousands into immigrations, that really burned me out, I love what I do but when it got to the point I was doing 3-4 projects a month I just couldn't bear it.
My work space is also smaller so I will probably only take partials for a while, at least until we are able to clear out the 3rd bedroom to make room for my work. I will miss my huge work space.
The queue has been updated and set to a reasonable due date for short completion times that don't jeopardize the quality of the suit. As stated I'm closed for new projects and will remain closed until which time I feel I am ready to open again.

Leaving tomorrow
Posted 10 years agoI'm leaving tomorrow for London. I will be unable to be reached until I get back in 2 weeks.
I hope you all have a safe and happy holiday. Remember, there is always something to be grateful for and that this season is about celebrating the joys of life. Be happy, be merry and bring in the new year with a bang!

Woo!
Posted 11 years agoWe are moved into the new place and it is just lovely. Sadly my work area is a lot smaller than my old room and since I don't have a garage or other work area like that I will not be able to do any special airbrushing. I have some commissions that have airbrushing in queue as it is and I will be making sure those are done as agreed but I will not be able to take on anymore. I will have to do dry brushing but that is ok I normally do that for tiger stripes and spots anyway.
We are still unpacking everything and in a week we will be leaving the country to visit my husband's family in London, then I'm headed over to Dubai. Apparently Sic's mother really wants to see us so is having us brought out there and paying for the trip. I'm excited, my first trip abroad.
Today is our one year anniversary. We are in our new home, free of people who take advantage of us and finally able to live within our means. I still harbor a lot of resentment for those who put myself and my husband in the situation we were in but now that we are out of it, we can actually start working towards better things.
We have a nice little 3 bedroom condo, 2 story. I will have to have a great big house warming party to help bring love into the house and celebrate our freedom.
Worky things:
Time to rehash the queue, everyone's materials made it over safe and sound and as soon as we are done unpacking everything I'm going to get to work. I have been doing some minor stuff, practicing on scraps and such and developed some new ways to make things crisper and cleaner.
I have always feared mediocrity, I always fear my suits are not special. I always fear they just look like everyone else and that they don't stand out. I spent a long time learning to make them comfortable, light, and well built but now I want to spend some more time defining what they are on the outside. I have some sketches I will be posting of my ideas and I would LOVE to get your feedback on it. I want to make sure that all of you who have been waiting on suits get something that is well worth the wait, I know it doesn't make up for the fact you had to wait but I hope that I can at least prove my product is good even if I am not always my best.
It feels like an eternity I have been waiting for things to go my way, to say "this is going to be my year" and have it actually happen but now that we are in control of our own fates again, I think there might be a chance for us.

Moving House
Posted 11 years agoGood news everybody. We got a lovely house and we are moving. You will not be able to reach me for a week or so while the internet is hooked up. What will I do without my internets!? Nuuuuuu.
Well this marks the start of a great new life, it could not have happened at a better time. No more room mates, no more clingers or users, just me and my husband working towards the same goal. I can't wait. For once I am optimistic, I believe things will get better. We are in a house we can afford, James got a raise at work and I can focus on my back log without having to take new work at all :D
Maybe when the house is decorated I will do a nice little stream to show the new shop!

Finally have a working computer!
Posted 11 years agoI'm going through emails right now, if you are looking for an update please be patient I have A LOT of emails to go through after months of not having a working computer.
Updates as it stands are I'm moving out of this house. Landlord decided to sell it out from under us and we will be in a new place in a couple of weeks because really we don't have much of a choice. I can't say I'm sorry about having to move, everything about this place has been some kind of curse. I can't wait to be in a new home within our means where we don;t have to worry about anyone else stiffing us!
So again please give me a bit I'm going through my emails and notes and comments right now. I'm also trying to get all the passwords for everything, god I make some stupid passwords.

Finally!
Posted 11 years agoAfter about 2 years of fighting and struggling it's done. My husband and I are caught up and ready to start our new life together. This month marks the end of our debts, the end of waiting and struggling and I can finally give myself back to my work.
God I can not tell you how infuriating it has been to be unable to do what it is I love and treat my customers the way they deserve but now that we don't have to worry about losing our home or if the bills will be covered, I can focus just on my work and start the long catch up process that I have needed to do desperately.
It is going to be a long process but thank you to everyone who has been patient. I'm going to update the queue.
My plan as it stands is to do 2 projects a month and one premade, that way I can catch up on my work, not take any new projects and still be able to pay my portion of the bills. I'm finishing a head commission and a bodysuit commission right now then I will put out a premade. Large projects will likely be given a whole month so that I can give them the time and dedication they need.
This is what I will do for a few months and when the queue is clear I will take new projects.
I think it's about time that after almost 2 years of watching my beloved business suffer to get my husband here and keep my home, that I put some love and time into my commissions as well as my customers. Let the progress begin.

Positive updates
Posted 11 years agoIt's been a very hard year and a half for myself but things are finally coming about.
We are almost clear of debts here at home a couple more payments and our financial struggles are over, it's been hard on my husband and I but we have managed to pull through.
He gives me so much strength even when all I want to do is run and hide. I'm always so scared to fail, to disappoint people but he keeps me going and I feel I am the most lucky woman on the earth. I really did marry my biggest fan and best friend.
Thank you everyone who has been so patient and supportive. I know I'm a stubborn goat so filled with pride that I can't even stand to be seen in such trouble but it's getting better. Thank you everyone who has helped us, I don't feel I deserve such kindness.
I'm just learning to be an adult. I am hardly grown in my mind, only just having to really take responsibility for my life and choices and while it has been staggering I can say that I'm blessed to have so much support from my loving husband and all of my friends. When things look rough and all you want to do is run and hide, just remember that it's not over till you say it is and if you keep pushing you can always bounce back.
I can't wait to bounce back. 2 months, I'm almost there, just 2 months till I can work to better my life and my business instead of just try and keep a roof over my head.
Never give up.

UPDATE: Reference artist
Posted 11 years agoFor the first time ever MushiMagic Fursuits is taking on a partner. I have always done all the work for my company on my own but now with so much demand I have had to look for help.
References will be handled by my new partner and friend of many years
fayV She will be doing fursuit styled references for MushiMagic suits. Short muzzled character designs will still be done by me.
When you order a reference you can still go through my website, place the order and it will be forwarded to her. She will work with you to get you the reference you need. Payment will be made to her account and you will work directly with her. She is a fantastic artist with good quality work and I know she will do well.
When that is finished and you are ready to commission, fill out a fursuit commission form and send it to me. I handle all other customer service work. Please do not contact her about fursuit commissions.
Please welcome
fayv to the team! My first partner. I can't wait to start working with her!
Anyone with a reference in progress will still have it done by me. Any new commissions will be handled by Fay.
