Zelda Ocarina of Time Chest!
General | Posted 12 years agoHey guys and gals, check it out:
http://www.furaffinity.net/full/10164060/
A Zelda chest that Vani and I worked on! Vani really did more of it than I, so he should get most of the credit.
Please comment at his page if you like it!

On the subject of friendship (WARNING: drama)
General | Posted 13 years agoI've always considered myself to be honest, sensible and open-minded. Anybody who knows me can tell you this. As long as a friend is honest, sensible and open-minded as well, I don't ask much more of them.
Not everybody's going to agree with every one of my opinions, decisions and lifestyle choices, nor do I expect them to. However, if a friend is upset with me or has a problem with something I've said or done, I do expect them to have the decency to confront me about it, hopefully to talk things out and patch things up.
During the time of the elections, I apparently offended a long-time friend (whose name will be withheld) with a political comment that I made on a journal about voting. For years, we had enjoyed our company and our chats. It seemed to me like a good, solid friendship that wouldn't be broken so easily over something like this.
I was proven wrong, though. He called me a retard, blocked me in every way, and never spoke to me again. I was surprised as hell by this, and quite hurt. It was something that I never would have predicted in a thousand years. Not from this person.
I'm clearly still hurt by it, or else I wouldn't be writing about it. This person is probably no longer watching me, and unfortunately won't read this, in all probability. But to everyone else out there, please -- if you have a problem with a friend, unless it is something truly horrific, please don't turn your back on them. At least try to work it out. Save the friendship if you truly value it. Don't be a coward.

End of FurFright, start of hurricane
General | Posted 13 years agoWell a great time was had this weekend at the convention. I was glad to see long-time friends and make some new ones, and sad that a few didn't attend. The fursuiting was great fun, and I'm glad the repairs held up. I have a good number of people to thank(Cyril Jackal, Statikk, Eidy, Otto) for giving me hotel room space for my suit, and of course to Zarphy and Iffy for helping me out while I was in suit. Couldn't have done it without you guys, and I'm grateful!
And now, a different kind of "fun" begins as the hurricane comes this way. I really really REALLY hope that everyone makes it home from the convention safely, and that you take all the precautions you need to in order to get through this alright. Everyone in our home has stocked up on emergency items, and thankfully our home is on a hill, so hopefully we don't have to worry too much about flooding. I'm a little worried about all of the trees RIGHT next to our home in the back. They're not extremely huge, but if one tips over, it'll still come down on us.
I feel really bad for people living in NY and NJ. Awful things are already going on over there. Please stay safe!!

Oh no, a flea :(
General | Posted 13 years agoFor those of you who don't know, I'm OCD. Being that, I have trouble relaxing if things aren't clean.
This morning, a flea was found on one of the ferrets. Just one. The ferrets are never let outdoors. I'm really hoping it was just a stray flea that found its way inside.
The ferrets were given baths, and I caught and killed the flea. No others were seen so far. Just to be safe, all the fabrics in their cage were put through the wash.
Still paranoid and worried, though.

Withdrawal is hard
General | Posted 13 years agoHaven't seen me in a couple of months? Wondering if I had fallen off the edge of the earth? Yeah, sorry about that.
Tera pulled me in, and I thought I could handle it. Like an idiot, I thought I could create a healthy balance between an MMO and everything else that's more important in my life. But I lost track of many friends, and I lost track of all my other hobbies, including my art.
I had a wake-up call about a week ago, and was forced to realize, once again, that I can't handle the addicting pull of a MMO. And so, I left the game, and recovering from it has been rough. Struggled with depression and apathy this past week, and was having trouble finding joy in anything.
Now, I'm finally starting to feel like my old self again. Old passions are coming back, and I feel like I'll be ready to resume my art soon.
I want to thank the people who have been supportive and helped me get through this. I'm really lucky to have you all in my life.

Can..not...resist...TERA!
General | Posted 13 years agoThe beta is out. I couldn't help it. I pre-ordered.
I haven't played a MMORPG since Dark Age of Camelot, and I was really into that game 10 years ago. When I stopped, I actually felt withdrawal. It had that strong a grip on me. I've known since then that if I EVER went back to a MMORPG again, it would have to be something special.
There's so much about Tera that excites me, but most of all is that you can be a short anthro furry critter. you can choose to be a bear, dog, cat, raccoon, otter, ferret...YOU CAN BE A FERRET! .o
So here I go again, investing in this game, potentially a great time-sink in my already overly busy life. But the call is too great. I have to try it. I promise myself and my mate that I'll play it in moderation and not let it get in the way of more important things. I can game casually. I'm a casual gamer. And I can quit anytime I want to...yeah...*twitch*...

Conversation with Nathan Lane
General | Posted 13 years agoRemember the journal I posted a while back about the time I met Nathan Lane?
http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/1370144/
It occurred to me that I never went into the actual details of my brief conversation with him. So for anyone interested, I'm going to lay it out here. First, keep in mind a few facts:
1) I was recovering from a slipped disc and still in pain
2) Nathan had just finished a stage performance and was undoubtedly tired
3) I was extremely nervous
After the show I was led backstage, along with my father and fiancee. There we waited for about 20 minutes. The whole time, I was lost in my own excitement and worries. Would he be happy to see me? Would I make a lasting impression? Would he like the drawing I made for him? Would I make a fool of myself? I thought back to something told to me about Nathan's take on meeting fans: "He enjoys it, but for god's sake don't just stand there and gawk -- say something. Make it count." I silently wished that my father hadn't asked to come backstage as well -- there were things I wanted to say that I just couldn't be comfortable saying around him, and ended up omitting as a result.
Eventually Nathan came down, freshened up and prepared for the bitter cold weather with a coat and a Yankees cap.
Nathan (to our escort): "Is this them?"
Me (shaking Nathan's hand): "Mister Lane, its such a pleasure and a privilege to meet you."
Nathan: "Thank you, its nice to meet you."
Me, after introducing my father and fiancee: "I've enjoyed your performances for sixteen years..."
At this point, my mouth stayed open and nothing would come out. For about 5 seconds my mind went into a panic. Nathan seemed mildly amused by my struggle to find my words again. He gave me a hopeful look as if to say "C'mon, you were doing well!", and this actually helped me get back on track.
Me: "...and during that time I've come to admire and respect you, both as an artist and a person."
Nathan: "Well thank you. Thank you very much."
Me: "I don't want to take up too much time, because you're probably tired and I've got a slipped disc--"
Nathan: "Oh geez!"
Me: "But I wanted to give you something that I made for you."
Taking out two differently-sized copies of the picture I had drawn, I handed them to him. There really wasn't much difference between the two.
Nathan (smiling and nodding): "This is very nice. Er, which one should I take?"
Me: "Whichever one you like. One has better borders."
Nathan (stifling a laugh): "Better borders?"
I wanted to say, "In case you wanted to frame it." but I felt that would sound pretentious. I chose for him, putting it back in the envelope before giving it back. I would have to just hope that it wouldn't end up staying in there forever.
After that, he gave a couple of autographs, and before parting ways I shook his hand, thanking him once again for his time and encouraging him to keep doing what he does best.
So slightly awkward on my part, and I had so much I wanted to tell him and had so many questions to ask. But I managed to tell him at least some of my feelings. I feel lucky to have been able to do that much. I still kick myself for not asking for a photograph, though. :P

Needing ferret advice
General | Posted 14 years agoOkay, first, shut up. No laughing. "Hur hur, the ferret needs help with himself." :P
But seriously, this is my second time owning a ferret, but I've never had this problem. This ferret is 7 months old, and he has a biting problem. He'll usually do it to my hand when he wants to get out of his cage, and he'll do it more while he's out and about. He'll bite ankles if he can't get to fingers, and he's drawn blood.
I've been reading up on training methods. Things to do and not to do. I understand very well never to use methods like flicking or any other harmful means (not that I would ever do that to begin with). I don't want to use bitter apple as a constant negative reinforcement. I'd much rather teach him that hands are not a thing to be turned off by.
I've tried putting some ferretone on my fingers, but he has no interest in ferretone. The hell is wrong with a ferret that doesn't like ferretone? o.o
Some people say to scruff the ferret and hiss at it to convey the message. I've started to try this. I know that it takes time, but I'll run out of band-aids by the end of the week if this keeps up. >.<
If anyone knows anything else I can try, please let me know. My fingers will thank you!

New ferret, not-so-new lesson

Make sure the ferret poops BEFORE setting him in the tub for a bath! >.<

An update on my life
General | Posted 14 years agoWow its been a while since I've posted a journal here!
A lot has happened in the past couple of months, and since I refuse to use Facebook or Twitter, I'll just post this here:
Bought a home -- its mine! 3-story condo in a nice little community, not far from the old apartment. Got it at a great price too, thanks to awesome agent. The condition was that it was an "as is" sale. So anything that needs repairing is up to me. But to be honest, there's not a lot that needs to be repaired by some "professional" guys I don't know.
zarphus ,
iffyjottere and I have been fixing up the place just fine on our own (though it has mostly been Zarphus with his mad fix-it skills!) The rest is just a lot of cleaning!
Packed and moved -- No matter how many times you move, no matter how experienced you get, it always sucks! However, the sheer number of people who helped made this move as painless as possible, and I'm incredibly grateful to each and every one of them, including
kiprich ,
tarucat , and
dimahusky -- thanks so much guys!!!
It has been 1 month since the move, and there still is a ton to unpack, but the new place is really coming together nicely. It won't be long before pictures can be taken ^.^
Working retail during the holidays -- it means that your own life gets put on hold while you spend an exhausting number of hours behind a register, forced to listen to holiday music, feet aching, stress levels at max, helping hundreds of cranky customers who hate you for trying to solicit the store's credit card. I used to love the holidays as a kid. I want that feeling again. Oh well. Just another 2 weeks, and it'll be over for another year.
Art still on hold -- My art has already taken a huge hit because of the move. Now the computer is set up, the drawing tablet is hooked in, but I'm just not going to have it in me to draw anything until the holidays are over. Then I can continue the gift art that I'm drawing for my father, which is definitely the largest project I've ever undertaken. And then, THEN, when that is done I can finally get back to drawing some furry things!
Coffee!!! -- Ferret lurvs some coffee, though I've never actually made a cup of the stuff in my life. So with the purchase of a new home, I felt it was finally time to purchase a coffee-maker as well! Ever since I first started hunting for the perfect home, I had an awesome image in my head of standing in front of the kitchen window, looking out while sipping a fresh-brewed cup in the morning. Yeah. That's when I'll know that all is well in my world.
So I come home with my brand new (simple, no-frills) coffee-maker, take it out of the box, put it on the kitchen counter. I'm ready to brew some stuff! Oh. Wait. Coffee grounds. That's kind of important. XD
Next day: come home with bag of coffee grounds. NOW I'm ready! Hot yummy java, here I co-- ...crap. Filters. >.<
NEXT day: Okay. Machine. Filters. Grounds. Powers combine, and GO! I was actually as giddy as a kid opening a birthday present when the thing started gurgling and dark liquid began dripping down into the pot. I was making coffee!!
Turns out I have more to learn about making the perfect cup, though. Let's just say that I'm glad I wasn't entertaining company when I made the fist pot! But there I was, sipping it in front of the kitchen window in the morning on a bright sunny day. Sure, it tasted like watered-down sewage, but it was mine, and it was my moment.
Coming soon: new member of the family -- Its time! Soon there will be a new addition to our furry household, and it will be a slinky dooking little critter. We're getting a ferret! Still have to buy the supplies and ferret-proof the home, but its gonna happen soon. Can't wait!!! ^.^
So now you are up to date on what's going on with me. Sorry it has taken me so long to write. I'll post another journal about the new ferret soon!

Back now!
General | Posted 14 years agoTuesday evening we got our electricity back, thank god! However, we had to wait another 2 days before our internet/phone service came back.
Doing good now. Clean and warm, and busy as ever as the moving date draws closer and closer. Thank you all for your comforting well-wishes and helpful offers. Ferret really appreciates it.

New England is a tree cemetery
General | Posted 14 years agoSaturday there was a snowstorm over here in CT that lasted about a day. Not so unusual, except that it happened before the leaves had a chance to fall. The result was that about every half hour, you could hear another tree falling from the sheer weight of the snow on the leaves. This, combined with the fact that nobody bothers to trim the trees near power lines around here, resulted in power outages for roughly 800,000 people in the New England area.
We're on our 3rd day without power in our apartment. We've been stuffing our fridge and freezer with bags of snow to keep our food cool, but it is a battle we're slowly losing. My otter, Iffy, had to give his supply of refrigerated insulin to
tarucat to take to her mother's house where there was still power.
I'm currently on my laptop, using free wi-fi at a local mall that has power. We're all charging our electronic devices here. And by 'we', I mean the entire state is cramming into the mall -- its what most people without power are forced to resort to after all the hotels filled up.
So just wanted to let people know what was going on with me, because I haven't been online in a few days. According to the governor and the power company, everybody's electricity should be back on in about a week. Meaning, ours could come back tonight, or it could take another 6 days. Who knows.
I'll probably sneak online each day for a short while when I'm at the mall to recharge things.

We're on our 3rd day without power in our apartment. We've been stuffing our fridge and freezer with bags of snow to keep our food cool, but it is a battle we're slowly losing. My otter, Iffy, had to give his supply of refrigerated insulin to

FurFright 2011 parade!
General | Posted 14 years agoWow, its amazing how fast these things get posted!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ts5SkB2TQi8
If you skip to about 12:04 you can see me coming down. But if you weren't there then watch the whole thing because there are so many awesome suits!
I tried to look animated and with a spring in my step. I've seen too many parades where half the people are just dragging along, looking like they're heading down death row. Looking at my results, I think I still have to step it up a bit. As I build more and more endurance I'll be able to perform better and for longer.
Anyway, enjoy!

Lots of stuff!!
General | Posted 14 years agoOkay, first, this is fortunately a busy month for me and my fursuit -- already went to one charity event this past weekend in New Haven CT, as a member of Hi-4 Entertainment. There was talk of rain, but the weather was perfect, and it was a lot of fun. Another charity event happens on Thursday in South Windsor CT, and then there's FurFright. And my fursuit's new hat is getting shown off too! Thanks again,
FurrFerret !!
Next, Lion King on Blu-Ray came out a day early at F.Y.E.!! Picked up my pre-order. Now I gotta save up for a 3D TV! Yes. I'm going to buy a 3D TV for this movie when I can afford it. :P
And here's big news to those I haven't told yet -- I got the condo I wanted!!! Got it at a great price too. Happy ferret gets a new living space *dookdookdookdookdook*! Also because of this news, my artwork is slowing down. I'm still working on a HUGE piece of gift art for my father, and it will get done. But furry drawings probably won't resume until December or January. Thanks for being so patient, everyone.
Aaaaaaand -- I must thank people:
LeeLee for surprising me with *awesome* gift badges
Zarphus
TaruCat
DimaHusky and my sweetie
Iffyjottere for all the awesome times and support at the Hi-4 events
Okay, I'm gonna go have dinner, play some Disgaea 4 and do some art...
...oh, a shiny!!!

The Lion King in 3D
General | Posted 14 years agoI finally got to see it today!
If you're wondering how it was, you know you're going to get a biased opinion from me. But yes, the 3D certainly did make it stand out (ba-dum-bum!) and it was a refreshing experience to see the characters that way. I had a smile throughout most of it. Except for the sad parts. Then I was sad-face.
I think the three best 3D moments for this movie are:
1) Zazu flying toward Pride Rock in the beginning
2) Timon making his sweeping hand gesture when he says "When the world turns its back on you..."
3) Scar making his final leap at Simba
Now I wonder if they'll ever make TLK 1.5 in 3D.... ^.^

Birthday plans
General | Posted 14 years agoSo tomorrow's my birthday. Have plans to go to an amusement park with about 8 other people, but it looks like Irene's going to come over and piss all over everything. So most likely, we'll go to an arcade and see a movie.
Unless the power goes out. Then we'll have to resort to scary ghost stories or something.
