Progress Report
General | Posted 2 months agoI am full steam ahead on the latest comic but it is NOT for This Primal World. I will be returning to it but I am gonna lose my mind if I don't finish Chapter 1 of The Prince of the Badlands. So, look forward to seeing more Raiser and not so much the other characters.
I am hoping you guys love it though. I am trying to put my best foot forward and get this ball rolling off to a great start.

If you like a character and I don't, that is fine but damn
General | Posted 2 months agoPlease do not be so obnoxious as to say and ridicule me because I don't think a character you like is good. That is my opinion but I am not going to tolerate being belittled because of my opinion on a character.
There are people who say that Godfather is an amazing movie. I don't know. I don't care. It's not a movie I give a crap about.
There are people who say that Elden Ring is the best FromSoft game ever made. I extremely disagree with that and think it is one of the worst and poorly thought out.
I think Dark Souls 2 is an amazing game. I am in the minority of that opinion and accept it. I am not gonna start huge fights over it.
I like The Legend of Zelda. I am not gonna get angry if someone tells me that Link is one of the most boring protagonists in history.
But I WILL NOT tolerate belittling me for not caring or even disliking something you do like. Do us all a favor and learn a little humility. Holy fuck.

Sorry for the lack of content
General | Posted 5 months agoI have been busy working on stuff. Just not been posting much lol.
For anyone wondering why, I have been learning Blender and also just got done playing Silent Hill 2 Remake. Fantastic game btw. I know everyone thought it was gonna suck but I actually found it to be better than the original.
You should see some stuff from me soon though, ciao!

General | Posted 7 months agoI just upgraded my PC with 32gb of RAM, a Ryzen 5700x and a RTX 3060 along with a new 1TB SSD. Finally got a chance to play Doom Dark Ages, Starfield and Silent Hill 2 Remake. So that's been eating a lot of my time hahaha... should probably get back to drawing...
Differences Between my Skeleton Island and Treasure Island
General | Posted 9 months agoSo as some may have guessed, if you've read Treasure Island, you might have noticed some differences so far in what I am making versus what the late and great Robert Louis Stevenson made.
Thus far I have shown a few things, aside from the obvious fact that the characters are talking animals.
1. Dr. Livesey is a woman: This reasoning was because the original book is a massive sausagefest and frankly felt like this story needed a woman's touch somewhere. I don't care if it is not historically accurate because neither was the original book. As one may recall, there is no such thing as Skeleton or Treasure Island nor was there a pirate named Captain Flint. As such, I made Livesey a woman and she is still a doctor and a magistrate. I'm sure some hyperconservative is thinking this shit is woke or something. It's not. I just didn't want to have the whole story have literally no women in it whatsoever. Speaking of which though.
2. Isreal Hands is also a woman: Now this one is just because I wanted a female pirate, which did in fact exist on several accounts. Isreal is a main antagonist in the original book, being a huge obstacle Jim has to overcome. As such, Isreal was chosen to be the one I wanted as a woman so there was some sort of merit to making her so. She does present herself as a man and hides the fact that she is a woman to all but her own pirate group.
3. Jim is an orphan and is a little older: This is because I wanted Jim to be a teenager and thus a little more capable. He's only about two years older than the original. The biggest difference between him and book Jim is the fact that Jim Hawkins is an orphan in my comic. While the original lost their father due to illness, his mom was still alive throughout the entire book. I felt this would give Jim more sympathy as we get to see him grow and go from bumbling busboy to capable sailor.
All said, these differences are not going to be very consequential to the story and if you haven't read the original novel by Robert Louis Stevenson, this comic is actually going to be fairly close to the original in terms of story beats and whatnot. I aim to be pretty faithful to the source material while having my own spins on a few things.

All personal projects are going to be stopped temporarily...
General | Posted a year agoIt's become blatantly clear that i need to get my priorities straight.
I need money. I have a job but that's the thing: I'm gonna be trying to get around 60 hours a week from here on out for a couple months. I'm tired of living paycheck to paycheck and I'm tired of not having my car fixed.
So unless it's a commission or something that's actually gonna make me money ATM, I'm not doing any art whatsoever til I have some shit sorted.

If this site ever goes down...
General | Posted a year agoI might need to reconsider whether or not This Primal World is safe to be on just this website. As of now, this is the only place you can read it.
If this site were to ever go down, I will likely change over to DeviantArt or something. I don't know. I actually don't go on a lot of websites around here. Maybe e621 hahaha.
If that were to happen however, I am not gonna just repost my comic. I actually LOATHE the original three chapters because the art in them is just god awful so I might do something about that. Maybe I will remaster them lol.
IDK. But if that does happen, yeah...
Anyway, ciao guys.

Sorry, I was playing a LOT of Street Fighter 6
General | Posted a year agoI mean a LOT of Street FIghter 6. Zangief is just too fun as is Juri. But I think I am gonna wait right now until Vega shows up. So I guess I am taking a break for like a year or something lol. Back to other things.
DOOM The Dark Ages looks fucking amazing
General | Posted a year agoAnd I can't wait to waste a lot of my time on it instead of my responsibilities.
I am gonna ride the cyber dragon and get very familiar with that skull grinding autoshotgun.
Fuck this is gonna be good.

Chapter 14 will not be shown page by page
General | Posted a year agoI think I am going to just save it until its all finished before posting it. And while I am back, I do have other projects that I want to work on. I am still learning the Godot game engine (want to learn Unreal 5 but my PC honestly is not strong enough to justify learning it and using all of its tools atm), I am learning how to sculpt in Zbrush and Blender, and I intend to start learning music theory once again so I can work on music for my video game projects.
But I am not gonna talk about those much anymore til there is something to show. No point right now.

General | Posted a year agoI am almost done with the current chapter but I have been trying to work a lot and get as much money as possible for a few things I need done. I should have a new page out soon. And then maybe ten more pages before the chapter is finally over.
Elden Ring: A Very Honest Critique
General | Posted a year agoSo about a month ago I decided to buy Elden Ring. Let's talk about it.
I have been a massive fan of the Dark Souls, Bloodborne, Sekiro and Demons Souls franchises from From Software for a while now. So it was only natural that at some point I would buy Elden Ring and check it out.
Well...
In short, I didn't care for it much. In fact some of it I absolutely hated. After beating it, I uninstalled the game. I have no interest in getting its DLC or playing it ever again. After beating it I think I know why I don't like it now.
The reasons why I don't like Elden Ring very much are numerous but I think I can break them down to about three things:
1. The game is simply too big for its own good.
2. The quest design philosophy of Dark Souls does not translate well in an open world video game.
3. There is an identity crisis in terms of combat for the game.
Allow me to further explain those points.
1. The game is too big. Simply put. There are vast swaths of land with almost nothing interesting to the point where it feels tedious to explore. Most of the time, its about going from point A to point B. It does not help that its also unclear about where you are supposed to go or if you are underleveled for a specific area. This is the least problematic part of the game but I got a bit tired with how massive it was. But it does lead to reason 2's problem.
2. The design of quests in this game do not translate well with its open world. I have never had much issue finding NPCs when I am trying to do specific quest lines in Dark Souls or Bloodborne. They were cryptic but the game world was designed to mitigate chances of not running into characters important for quests to progress. And they were usually close by to areas of interest anyway. Elden Ring's NPCs on the other hand either will sometimes tell you where they are going or just straight up vanish and you have to play detective and scour the world to find out where they are. Millicent is one of the worst offenders here but one of my biggest problems was when I was doing the Ranni quest.
Blaidd the wolf is an NPC I ran into and wanted to help out. But at some point I could not find him anymore. Turns out, he had been sealed in some other world I had to go into. How the fuck was I even supposed to know that? There is no hint. The only way I found out was through a guide. And that was not the only issue I had with the Ranni quest. Another involved Ranni herself. But I digress.
By far the biggest issue I had with the game is reason number 3.
3. The combat is having an identity crisis. This game wants you to feel like you are playing a slightly faster Dark Souls 3. Except the enemies. They seem to believe that they are playing Bloodborne or Sekiro. This is a MASSIVE problem. Especially for melee builds and even moreso for heavy melee builds.
Bosses in this game are RELENTLESS. They seemingly never stop attacking. Some of them have, I am not even joking, 14 hit combos. With attacks that can kill you in two or three hits. With that kind of damage, it is baffling to me that the devs thought they needed to be able to spam attacks like no tomorrow. Unfortunately I was a heavy melee build, as I was cosplaying as my character Raiser. He uses a greatsword so I went with a greatsword strength build.
The bosses do not seem to have big windows of opportunity when they have finished, as they seem to be able to ignore recovery frames for their attacks. They also input read and will pretty much the very next frame attack you if you try to heal. It's obnoxious. Many of their attacks have janky hitboxes too and nearly all of them have at least two AOE attacks. And these AOE's seem to be absolutely brutal too, usually being the strongest attacks they have. They either do huge status affect damage or hit you so hard, you can be one shot if you don't have above 40 vigor.
Fortunately I had Raiser at 60 vigor by the mid game. But that still meant I was getting two shot most of the time.
Anyway the bosses in this game are hyperaggressive, do an immense amount of damage, have some questionable hit boxes, can react to your healing down to the frame and also have massive health bars. And then you have bosses like Godskin Duo which are just... god awful design. They were already stupid on their own and the fact that not only do you have to deal with two of them but in reality it will be more like four of them because they respawn and the health bar is too big to just kill two of them under is just shit. Honestly I think a lot of the complaints I have would be fixed if they were just less aggressive or at least didn't deal fuckloads of damage each hit.
I think my favorite boss is Radahn. I thoroughly enjoyed his fight. The spectacle was amazing, the fight was the right balance of tough but fair, his moveset was monumentally awesome and he was just straight up fucking FUN.
I wanted to love Maliketh but despite his amazing design and badass moveset, once again he was playing a different game than I was. One more akin to Metal Gear Rising as opposed to Elden Ring. I won't spoil much more because I did like the third to last and second to last bosses but fuck the actual final boss.
I have uninstalled the game now so I am going to just wait for the next From Software game. I won't be getting the DLC. I got Dark Souls 3 and Bloodborne still. I am good lol.
TL;DR: The game was bogged down by its scope, cryptic quest design and the bosses are way too overtuned for the game they were making. For every good boss fight, there were at least five shitty ones. I would say its a 6/10 honestly. I am baffled this won game of the year.

My webcomic was picked up by Marvel.
General | Posted a year agoYep. I have no idea what to expect now but I guess now Raiser has a chance to fight someone like Spider-Man and the Avengers. Shit is pretty crazy.
They did tell me I would have to make a few alterations. For instance, I need to make Jahzahvine far more prominent and Andesine needs to be changed to a sassy minority human woman in order to meet some sort of weird ass quota of theirs. I don't know. Something to do with representation. I have no idea how I am going to explain how she is Raiser's biological sister and also a completely different species to him so that will be fun. Also Keveranu is fine as he is, apparently. Buravera unfortunately will have to be scaled back a bit.
Salsut also needs to be scrapped because he has viewpoints that are what they said "problematic" They did say that I might be able to salvage him if I make him have no flaws as he has themes of "slave overcoming their masters" and they didn't think it would be wise to give him negative qualities.
But hey at least I can keep the violence.
Happy April Fool's day everyone.

Imma be honest with yall
General | Posted 2 years agoThe reason you haven't seen any pages lately is cuz I bought Elden Ring. Currently roleplaying as Salsut in it. I'll try to do some pages this week.
Chapter should be out this month
General | Posted 2 years agoWhile it might not ready by the 16th, I'm a little more than half way there.
One final delay. In true Mystrial fashion.
General | Posted 2 years agoThe comic is no longer slated for Christmas. It's now slated for the anniversary of when I started the comic series: January 16th.
Let's go in to Prima once again fellas. Long time coming. See you there.

Some things to expect in the new Volume of This Primal Wo...
General | Posted 2 years agoVolume 2 is going to have a few funny moments but much of it is going to be darker in tone to the first volume of chapters.
Gods are gonna die.
Anappa is going to be shown off in a light I am not sure many saw coming.
Raiser and Skar will be having their first fight.
There will also be some sex scenes.
But the big one will be that this volume deals with trauma and how some deal with that trauma.
And the story is going to move a bit faster than the last volume as well.
So yeah. Looking forward to it guys.

Chapter 13 Expected to drop this Christmas.
General | Posted 2 years agoI am 12 pages in and expect the chapter to be over 40 pages long. It will be a part one. And I think you guys will like it. It's got a lot of humor, two new characters you will be seeing in action and I feel it will be a good place to kickstart a "Volume 2" of This Primal World. I am sorry for taking so long on this one, guys.
Anyway guys, ciao!
Anyway guys, ciao!
2 new character debuts soon.
General | Posted 2 years agoWell not really new, yall know Buravera and some of you might remember a femme Raiser named Raisin. Well she is debuting this chapter as well.
Whoo hoo!
Anyway, I'm back guys.
Ciao!

General | Posted 2 years agoI am doing about a page per day of my comic. If you have a commission you are waiting on me, I have not forgotten you. I intend to finish your commission on my days off of work. I am not as worried about rushing my comic, I don't want to rush your commission and mess something up.
Expect some uploads soon.
General | Posted 2 years agoSorry I have been a bit inactive.
Was having a bit of a hiatus due to work and health
General | Posted 2 years agoPretty much as the title says.
I have been trying to get 100% caught up on bills and taking overtime when I can. (Almost done there too.)
Also I had a health scare last week that has made me reconsider my lifestyle a bit. I was having difficulty breathing but the doctor had no idea why. I figure it is because I am out of shape and need to change or else I am going to wind up in an early grave.
Well I have chosen not to die young. So I am going to do what I can to make sure that I can live until I am at least 70. Give myself another forty years on this earth at least.
Anyway, that is why uploads have been very slow right now. Thank you for your patience.
