Posted 6 years agoBad joke for title. I know. I'll get better. (I won't)
Been a while so thought I'd give an update.
Still working on career stuff. Been fun for the past 2 years of being a dad. I start my 5th 10-week course out of 8 for my maintenance management professional certificate next week. Hoping to have all that done by next year. Finger healed up nicely and I have about 90% functionality out of it. Unfortunately, I managed to develop some lower-back issues last year that I'm getting medical help for... but that won't deter me from continuing to do what I do.
Finally getting back into drawing (as some of you might have noticed). Hope I can keep it going for more than just a single drawing over the course of 18 months. I really missed it but for some reason, just haven't had the drive. Couple of good friends and people I look up to inspired me to start up again so that's why I've started uploading again.
I miss the way things were, when I used to draw all the time and upload here. I miss chatting with the few of you who would comment on my stuff and motivate me to keep drawing more. But that's the way life is, I guess. I'm not 20 anymore. Interests and responsibilities change and you get pulled away to do other shit, eventually forgetting how much fun you used to have doing the stuff you used to do.
I'm still here. if anyone still reads these, I want you to know that I really appreciate you and your interest in my art, my life, or whatever. I hope I can dust off this old account and make it half as lively as it used to be.
Cheers!

Dad Mode
Posted 8 years agoSo here's another journal update for anyone who still follows me for some reason. Basically more lame excuses for why I haven't been doing art.
First lame excuse: In September, I did something really fucking dumb. One of those instances where I absolutely knew it was dumb and yet I did it anyway. I was in a hurry and I completely ignored basic safety. I was trying to help my crew with an emergency fix on some machinery when I fucked up using our metal lathe. Long story short: a thick piece of metal struck my hand at high velocity, and it ended up breaking my proximal phalanx (the first bone in your finger) on my right index finger clean in half. The sharp bone also punched a 1cm wide hole in my skin that needed to be stitched up.
On my drawing hand.
I had to have surgery to get pins drilled through the two halves of the bone to hold it together for 6 weeks, and just now finished another 6 weeks of healing and recovery (which included some physiotherapy) after the pins were removed. I had my whole hand in a splint for 2 months. As much as I wanted to draw during that time, I couldn't even hold a pen. So there's that. I can hold a pen now, and the drawing itch is still there, but this brings me to my second lame excuse.
Lame excuse #2: My wife, Jessie, gave birth to our first child on November 17. This was totally a decision we both made a couple years ago that we wanted to do, and both of us are over the moon with joy for our little baby Nathan Alexander Hayes. I can't even begin to describe how happy we both are to be parents, and we are both working night and day to make sure this little screaming potato has an amazing life, with the hopes that he will grow up to be a good, amazing person.
This also means most of my attention is diverted away from my hobbies while we adjust to the new life of being parents. I am also getting sleep wherever and whenever I can get it. No shit: my boss shot an elastic band at my head to wake me up after I crashed at my desk last week.
I also get to start some night classes in the new year to upgrade my credentials to Maintenance Management Professional - a course that will take me about 2 years to complete.
And that's about it. I'm really sorry that my art production has dropped so much in the past few years, but I have some pretty good lame excuses to back it up. I'll still draw, and I'll always be a part of this community (more like it'll always be a part of me, but whatever). I just have many other priorities right now which mean you won't see a whole lot of updates on my gallery on a frequent basis.
Thanks for reading, and keep on being awesome.

Life and Career (and Art)
Posted 8 years agoSo I figured I'd give an update with regards to my total inactivity in the art world (and somewhat in the furry world).
I landed a job working as a maintenance engineer at a company about a year ago. I was stuck on night shifts for a full year which pretty much killed any creative desire I had. The work was great and I absolutely loved it; it's just the free time I had at home was mostly spent with my wife since our schedules were exact opposites. On weekends, I basically maintained the same sleep schedule and my social life completely tanked. I won't say I was depressed, but I was certainly a bit dampened.
A year into the job (basically one month ago), my boss resigns, and I was chosen as the candidate to hold the fort until my employers could find a suitable replacement maintenance manager. Reasons for this included: I'm the only guy in my department with extensive computer experience, I was already working quite closely with my former boss on some of the managerial tasks relating to scheduling, purchasing, and the preventive maintenance program, among other things. It was only supposed to be temporary, but I found myself growing quite comfortable with the environment after a few weeks, and I got some great feedback from other members of the management team, both within our factory, and across the continent. I had the president of Canadian operations shake my hand yesterday and tell me that he's been keeping a close eye on me, and that he's very happy with how I've been doing. o.=.o
So today, I was offered the position of maintenance and engineering supervisor. The position was created for me because I don't currently hold the necessary qualifications to be making the manager's salary, but I have the skills to manage the department and I qualified for a salary at least fitting of that. I signed my name on the offer letter without a second thought. I've officially made the leap from being a mechanic to being part of the management team.
Over the next couple of years, I'll be working on part-time courses in Maintenance Management Professional at BCIT. The goal is for me to get my certifications so that I can be placed into the management position.
My career has taken a huge leap in a very short amount of time. My future has revealed a number of newly opened doors that I intend to pursue.
So my art will probably continue being a secondary thought in the meantime. Not because my interests have changed, but because I want to focus on a future for myself and my family to-be. Jessie and I are working on having a kid, which will end up taking more time away from me and my hobbies.
But don't worry: I'm still 100% a scaly furfag and that will never change. You'll still see art from me when I can get around to producing it. I still keep a presence on Twitter and Telegram. I'm not going anywhere. ^.=.^
GRILL MARKS, BUD!

Commissions Update
Posted 8 years agoI'm here to apologize to the people whose commissions I've been sitting on for such a long time.
I'm going to keep this short and simple. My preferred "flavour" of art that I produce has changed over the last couple years. I don't enjoy doing the high-detail, realism stuff that I used to love. The last few things I've drawn were simplistic and more cartoonish, and I found it was way more fun than what I was doing previously.
I'm offering full refunds to those who commissioned me for the high-resolution stuff that I was previously advertising, and I will be giving all the WIP files I have to them, with which they may do whatever they please.
I have updated my commission information journal and removed the examples of artwork that I'm willing to provide. I hope to be adding new tiers and examples later. For now, I'm just looking to reconcile with my clients so that nobody is being ripped off.
Thanks for everyone's patience and understanding in the matter. I hope to be adding more stuff to my gallery soon and being much more active on here.

I'm Still Here
Posted 9 years agoI'm still around. I haven't forgotten that I draw sometimes and that I should probably get around to doing that again.
I've been super busy. Been putting in a lot of overtime at my new job, and now I'm taking another course that my employers wanted me to have. Working night shifts all the time really kills my creativity and I spend any spare time I have with my wife or with friends, since I hardly get to do anything fun anymore. My hours simply don't allow me to do much. I'm awake by 2pm every day and usually in bed by 5am, even on weekends.
Things look to be changing though, and soon. I can't say too much because my journals are public and I don't want to count any chickens before they've hatched, but I should be getting back on days within the next couple months.
I haven't had a vacation in 5 years because I've worked 4 different jobs in that time and never accrued the vacation hours. I'm hoping for all that to change soon. This job is really good to me, the compensation and benefits are great. I'm finally not just crawling, but jogging away from debt and am able to put money away for once. So things are going great here; I'm just waiting for the scheduling to change and for other things to calm down and I'll be back at my tablet again.
I have not forgotten those commissions I've taken on. I'm really sorry for how long it's taking, but it's always in the front of my mind what I owe people and that will be taken care of soon!
Thanks, guys. <3

Furry Network
Posted 9 years agoYeah, I got one of these:

I really like the layout and feel so far. Please feel free to follow me there if you have one!

Welp. Here we go.
Posted 9 years agoFunny how my last journal was about how I was enjoying my new job...
...I got a new one. This time, it's the real deal. I'll be a maintenance technician in a factory again, except this time I'm making use of my shiny new power engineering certificate and I'm actually going to be making a substantial wage with benefits. I've finally got my career on track where I want it to be and things seem to be looking up.
Jess and I moved into a place we have pretty much to ourselves. Being in our own space has lessened a lot of the stress and my creative muse is firing back up again. We're looking to buy a place after we've got enough saved up, and it's really exciting to be actually settling down for once. Even Jess has been wanting to get back into art and I'm stoked to see new work from her soon!
For those who haven't been around recently, I've had a couple art streams to get myself warmed up again after my hiatus, and I will be working on commissions again, soon. I'm really excited about this, since it's the first time in a while I've been in a comfortable position to allow my creativity to flow. I hope to be working on art and music again like I did 5 years ago.
I thank those waiting on me for their patience. You will not be disappointed.

Well that ELEVATED quickly!
Posted 10 years agoHey guys.
I apologize again for my stupid long hiatuses. I know there are people waiting on art from me and I thank you for your patience while I get my shit together.
I'm settling in nicely at my new job as an elevator installer/technician. It's really cool being part of such a small company: my boss is the owner and there is only one other person who works for this company besides me and him. I'm actually the only guy working in the shop and it's a lot of fun getting to do metal fabrication and learn a new trade.
I'm feeling the old itch to draw coming back, so expect to see some streaming notifications from me soon as I work on warming up and eventually hammering out some of those commissions!
Take it easy, guys!

FEEL THE POWER
Posted 10 years agoI DID IT.
I just passed the last exam that signs me up for a passport for a better career, and a more stable life.
Yesterday, I passed my 4B1 exam with BC Safety Authority, which means that, in a few weeks, I'll hold an internationally recognized trades certificate (RED SEAL) as a Fourth Class Power Engineer. I am qualified to work on nearly anything to do with power, power generation, and powered systems.
I am so fucking happy you have no idea. Finally a huge weight is off my chest and I have time in the afternoons again. Expect to see my streams picking up again and more commission work to be done!

Commissions Status
Posted 10 years agoI've had a recent hiatus on my art in order to pursue some career opportunities. I have the itch to work on art, but I'm afraid I have to put my life priorities first and ask that my current commissioners bear with me while I rearrange a few things concerning my day job. I'll try to stream some progress this weekend, so keep an eye out!
Thanks, guys! <3

Thank You!
Posted 10 years agoHey guys!
So it's been about a month now since I got back on the boat and started doing art (with a vengeance, I might add)! I'm having a ton of fun and it's improved my mood greatly.
I'd like to thank
Explicital and
Molotovscocktails for being a major part in getting be back into doing art and for inviting me into their multistreams. Without you guys and your inspiration, I'd probably still be wasting countless hours playing videogames! XD
I'd like to thank all the people who come along to my streams and keep me company! The sole reason I even bother sharing my artwork on the web is because people seem to enjoy it, and having people actually being there while I draw to offer me critique and compliments is the icing on the cake. I'm always trying to improve and you people are the driving force behind it.
I'd like to thank those who have commissioned me! In-stream quickies or full-fledged pieces that I put time and effort into, every little bit is adding to my experience and abilities so that I can continue to improve and find better ways to create things that please my watchers. I'm still quite new to being a commissioned artist, so I know I have a lot to learn still, but I do my best to make sure you're getting what you pay for! Thank you dearly for your patronage!
And finally, thank you to the recent influx of watchers, my current and long-standing watchers, and faves and comments on my work. This is probably what I value the most about maintaining galleries online: the people who enjoy my creations. Without you guys, there'd be little point to sharing my work with anyone other than my friends and family, and I'd probably have less desire to continue with it and develop my skills. You guys keep me going and prodding my brain to see what I can come up with to get you fired up.
You guys are all great. Keep on being awesome!
THANK YOU!!!

Commission Info Update
Posted 10 years agoJust a heads up to future commissioners: I have changed my commission prices from Canadian to US dollars. This will not affect commissions already negotiated.
Holy Shit...
Posted 10 years ago... the four phantom submissions I had for the last 3 months are finally gone! Wow. That's amazing. I think you've won my loyalty back, FA!

What's Up
Posted 10 years agoI feel like I owe my followers and commissioners a bit of a 411 on what's been happening.
2014 was a gongshow. I took a leave from the furry community and my creative outlets to work on a few things, mainly my education. Spent a lot of time looking for a better job (was working at the airport), and once I got a better job, I spent a lot of time working towards making myself a dependable asset. Long story short: I'm now in a much better place, much closer to home, and I'm very happy with what I'm doing. I'm back in a factory. It's a little place, not the world-class facilities I'm accustomed to, and the owner is cutting me loose to help bring it up to an actual reputable establishment (implementing health-and-safety, Lean manufacturing, creating preventive maintenance schedules, etc). I have a manager who was hired just before I was, who also came from big-ticket production facilities who I'm working very closely with to raise efficiency and help the company start making some real cash flow. It's a lot of fun, and I'm looking at a possible promotion to production supervisor, or even plant manager, in the coming months.
I also finished my 4th class power engineering course in October, at BCIT, and I am getting the paperwork ready to write my government final. Hopefully, come March, I'll be a fully-ticketed (red-seal) power engineer. That is going to open up a vast number of doors and avenues which I'm really excited about. Feels like my life is finally coming together.
Jess and I are doing amazingly well after a year together, and we're looking at buying a house in Mission. It's a small town about 20-30 minutes from where we live now, and property out there is very low priced. We're hoping to get some acreage for her to expand her canine boarding-and-training business... and a couple extra bedrooms for when we decide to bring a little wolf-dragon into the world. :3
That's pretty much it. TL;DR: got a new job that I love, I have time to work on art, music, and friendships again, and Jess and I are looking towards the future with happy vibes.
On a side note: I'm going to be phasing-out the amount I rely on Fur Affinity for hosting my creative works in favour of a much nicer, smooth-running gallery: Weasyl. I'm not going to abandon FA completely, but I will be putting more of my focus on maintaining my Weasyl gallery. So if you guys wanna keep up with my works, please please PLEASE come on over and give me a follow on my Weasyl gallery.

That's it, folks! Thanks for taking the time to hear me out. I'll be booting up Photoshop and Livestream to be working on some commissions and new artwork. Keep an eye out!

Posted 10 years agoA fabulous artist and good friend is holding an auction. She's got it up here, along with examples of her work (one she did for me and Jess on the left):

Here We Go
Posted 11 years agoSo with the completion of my latest upload, the image that was the big time-vampire in terms of working on tedious details, I finally have freedom to work on other things. I have commissions that I've been sitting on for a long time and I plan on getting back into those. And I'll be doing a lot more livestreams (I was avoiding doing more on that last pic since I doubt people wanted to watch me shade individual scales for hours and hours).
Keep an eye out for more notifications from me as I start new pieces and post new uploads. If you had a commission slot, yours might very well be next one up!
My commissions are still open. Information at the bottom of the page!
Take it easy, guys! <3

Back!
Posted 11 years agoSo, in case you weren't around when I was doing my streams or uploading stuff, I'm back! Doing art again and goofing around in streams as it was a year ago. I know it's been a while, but I'm hoping to pick up where I left off and get busy working on things I owe and commissions I haven't even started yet. XD
Also, don't forget the other two sites I upload to: Weasyl, and SoFurry. I'm hoping to work on my eventual migration to those two sites and stop using FA altogether. Just too much of a headache with this place sometimes. Probably by the end of 2015 I will no longer be posting or uploading here.
Anyway, that's all for now! Hope to catch you guys in my streams this week and in the future!
Take care, guys!

Spectacular piece done by the wonderful
She is a fantastic person and an equally-as-good artist. Very smooth commission process and competitive prices. I highly recommend.
Thanks so much, Kappy!

Posted 11 years agoHere's another one
Posted 11 years ago... a quick update, again. Seeing as I've been scarcely around I feel like I need to remind everyone that I haven't abandoned anyone.
The job I currently work at is about an 80-minute drive from my house, no matter which route I take, as traffic trying to get to and from Vancouver is always the shits. As a result, I spend about 3 hours of my day just driving, and the only free time I have in my evenings and on weekends is spent studying for my power engineering course, or spending time in the yard doing all sorts of productive outdoor crap that gives me a sense of self-fulfillment...
...and allergies. x.=.x
However, the good news is that I've landed another job that I start on June 9, that is a mere 10-minute drive from my house and involves doing actual work, not standing at the bottom of a ladder handing light bulbs up to an electrician. My mood should get a bit better and I'm gonna be saving a lot more money ($240/month just in gasoline, maybe more if I can get a decent bike off Craigslist), I'll be getting back to the gym once my course is finished and I'll have time to ART!!! Sweet jesus it feels like it's been years! I know I've uploaded a few little sketches recently, but that's all I've been able to manage since November, which I think is pathetic.
So I'm looking forward to having some extra time with which I can catch up with some of you guys on Skype, work on some art streams, finish off some old projects and start ones that I committed to a long time ago. I miss all of you. You guys are the reason why I bother uploading my art in the first place.
Anyway, I'll see everyone around soon. Looking forward to the future, and winning my game of roshambo with life for the time being. :)

The first was drawn by Jess, and of course as traditional art goes, it looks far better when you see the real thing than a scan. Unfortunately the scan doesn't pick up the shinyness and amazing colours that she put into it.
Second was drawn by Jess's friend, Huskie. Absolutely love how sexy this turned out.
Third was done by Jess's friend, Jaxx... who happens to be the first fur-artist I ever took interest in when I first discovered furry back in '03. The fanboy in me nearly shit bricks when Jess gave this to me. =P
I was a spoiled dragon, this Christmas. o.=.o

Posted 11 years agoWhooo... yeahhh so... been a while. XD
Basically just giving a heads-up on what's been going on in my life and why I haven't really produced any art in a while. A LOT of shit has happened in the past few months and I'll give you a quick rundown. Most of you follow me on twitter or via other means of communication, so I'll keep it sweet and simple:
In June, I lost my job. Fired. That's a long story unto itself and I might rant about that in another journal later. Anyway, I was unemployed for the entire summer, up until October, when I landed a job working for a contractor that has a long-term position at Vancouver International Airport. Now I'm a junior maintenance technician, and currently do all sorts of things relating to upkeep of the building itself (changing lamps, HVAC service and repair, fixing floor tiles and pretty much anything that is broken that doesn't require a specific trades certification to work on.) The job is pretty cool, but it has its frustrations. As a contractor, we rely on YVR (the airport), to supply us with work-orders. Right now, we're in a battle with the union workers that YVR is trying to force out, so there's a lot of bureaucratic bullshit going on that hinders us getting work done, so we find ourselves in long stretches of having nothing to do. I'm the kind of guy who likes to actually do WORK, so it's hard going from a career where I used to have to use my brain and troubleshoot stuff with a wrench in my hand, to standing around waiting to be told to do something (which sometimes ends up in us doing menial tasks like cleaning up the lower hallways, sorting the thousands of air-filters we have in stock, etc).
So, now that I work in the Greater Vancouver Area, naturally, living almost 2 hours away in Chilliwack wasn't really an option. As soon as I got my job, I picked up and moved in with a bunch of absolutely amazing friends in Maple Ridge, which is an hour closer. Right now I'm living with my friend Torwin and 2 others, in a nice big house with a yard. The commute into work is still around an hour on a good day, but I'm making money right now, and living with good people.
Haven't been doing much art lately since I've been so fucking busy, but I hope to get started on that again soon and grind out some of the commissions I've taken in the past year. I've also been working on my 4th class power engineering course again, which I hope to complete in the coming months and get my boiler/refrigeration ticket.
And finally, saving the best for last: I've fallen in love with the most wonderful person I've ever known, JessieTWolf. She lived out here with Torwin for the last few years and we recently came to know each other in past visits I had when I was still only just partying out here on the weekends. She moved back to Toronto for a few months to be with her family and friends, but she'll be back here permanently in just a couple more months. I must say, I've never had feelings for another person on this magnitude before, even during the seven years I spent with the girl I thought I was going to grow old with. The circumstances upon which we met are quite muddy and very complicated, but I can say for sure that everything has worked out for the better, and I am for ever in debt to Tor for being such a great friend and letting us come together the way we did.
I know some very special people. I've made friends who I believe to be the upper echelon of human kindness and maturity, and for that I am ever grateful. I can only hope to achieve the same level of paragon that these people have demonstrated to me.
I wish everyone a Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, and all other well-wishes for the future. <3

Commission Update
Posted 12 years agoHey guys. I've just recently updated my prices in my commission information (found in the footer on every one of my journals).
I've got a few pics on the go, simultaneously, and I'm getting back to work on the list. Hopefully I'll be able to knock a few of these off shortly. =)
Keep an eye out for streams to see some of the stuff I'm working on!

SoFurry
Posted 12 years agoSo, just don't want y'all to forget that I do maintain a SoFurry account.
http://neox.sofurry.com/
In my dreams, SoFurry would become my primary art gallery. I do still update it with new finished works, but the following I have here on FA is what mostly keeps me here. I just love the site layout, the interface, and the nifty little features it has (like full HD viewing).
So this is just me advertising a bit. Anyone with an account at SF, please feel free to send me a watch or a friend request or both. =)
