General | Posted 8 years agoSo, I am moving to Virginiam within 20 minutes of Ashburn. I'm looking at a place in Sterling currently and hopefully I get the place. Ergo, I will be leaving Maryland for the 2nd time in my life to live elsewhere, the first being when I was 3 and in southern NJ for a year.I will be moved in wherever I wind up heading m=by March 1st. Good news is that I will be even closer to FurtherMore so staffing will be even easier!

Nothing new, sadly. This year was full of meh.

I've stopped making them years ago...
3. How will you be spending New Year's Eve?
With my mate an his kids. Possibly watching the fireworks from the US Naval Academy, sitting by a fire.
4. Did anyone close to you die?
My younger brother in August, and my mate's mother in December.
5. What countries did you visit?
None, though I did go to PA and VA (which technically are sovereign nations under the US, but whatevah...)
6. What would you like to have in 2012 that you lacked in 2011?
A steady paycheck again
7. What date from 2011 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
Aug. 11th, the date my brother died and I was reunited with my biological family due to that.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Nothing at all. My 2011 was average and worse.
9. What was your biggest failure?
Not getting electricity back to my house since Aug. 2nd. I'd also blame myself for not getting hired, but since everywhere I've applied is STILL "now hiring" months after I applied and I've heard nothing from anyone, I' going to blame the economy or corporate for that.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Just the usual scrapes I don't remember getting until I look down and see congealing blood.
11. What was the best thing you bought?
Food I guess.
12. Where did most of your money go?
Food and gas.

Work that would result in a paycheck.

Farewell to a Warior Brother
General | Posted 14 years ago13 years after seeing him last, I found out 2 weeks ago that my younger brother (3 of 4 of us total) had passed away. He was buried with a 21 gun salute and honor guard on the 25th of July. Emotional for all of us. The three of us sons did our best to be strong for our mother who was having a hard time keeping together, understandable all things considered. She had to retire early so the rest of us went out to talk and reacquaint ourselves with one another. My mate helped me quite a bit, and I was glad that the Sac. of the Navy, the Marines, and my mate's Army past were all there to honor him.. To an extent, my para-Coast Guard training brought another branch of the armed forces to bear witness to his passing.

General | Posted 14 years agoBack from AC2011 and dispute all the little quirks that went wrong, and the $700+ bill on my work vehicle breaking down the day before we left, it was a bloody blast.
Anyhow, I had some work done before now on 'Lightning Strikes Twice, part 3" but at AC I decided to trash and revamp the entire thing. So now instead of one tiny part 3 and a short and half-assed feeling part 4, there's a decently sized part 3 nearly done. It should be posted in the next week..... hopefully.

Tribute to Brian Jacques

I've tried since I heard the sad news to come up with a fitting epitaph to him but nothing seemed to do him justice. Today I stumbled upon a post by one 'osprey77' on 'the World of Feila' message board that I think fits quite well. Below is the entry and a link to it directly.

Brain Jaques was one of my favorite authors, and my inspiration to write. I was deeply saddened to hear of his passing, and wrote this as a tribute. (I call him the Dream-Weaver, because in one of the Redwall books, the intro ends with, "For, am I not the Teller of Tales, the Weaver of Dreams?")
The Dream-Weaver has passed,
The rain soaks his grave.
Once more we recall,
The stories he gave.
Warrior and abbot,
Gather around.
Squirrel and otter,
Give heed to the sound.
The bell’s toll is muted,
For the Dream-Weaver is gone.
The pen is laid aside,

General | Posted 15 years agoWell, I finally got to experience what everyone complains about Microsoft for. My XBox (not 360, don't have one) has never failed, nor had my PS2 or Game Boy alpha and my NES only died when I had rental game putzed it up. However, my 2nd gen PS3 (60 gig full soft/hardware backwards compatable, etc) has gotten a Yellow Light of Death, or YLoD. It's of course past warentee, and I would be loathe to send it to Sony for repair even if it wern't for fear of the probable loss of my hard drive data and the possibility of not even getting the same generation console back. Cost prohibitive as well.
There's a ray of hope though. My dear mate found some info on how to fix the most likely problem yourself, and info for a company out of Salt Lake City which charges much less than Sony would to repair it, even with a money-back policy, minus shipping charges of course, if they can't fix it. So, no Fallout3/New Vegas, no GTA4, no DMC4, no RE5, no SC4, and no watching the few blu-ray's I have un til then. Joy......
Bright side is that this will force me into finishing a bunch of Wii games I've been neglecting, and maybe go back to some PS2 games for awhile.

Cub Issue....
General | Posted 15 years agoAs if you all haven't heard enough on it. Anyhow, first of all let me say that FA is totally in its rights as are the sponsors, to request cub porn to be removed from FA. I don't agree with it but it's their call.
Now, that aside, why?! I don't personally care either way but starting down this path will eventually led to FA shutting down now the door is open. What's next? clean cub art? Chibi yiff? The Fender pic with the giant wrench can be construed as cub porn due to being a chibi pic and the wrench being phallic and suggestive. See? It's so easy to keep picking at issues until EVERYTHING is offensive to at least one person. What about copyritten proeprty? Disney went on a witch hunt years ago with yahoo Groups and shut down many innocuous groups just because there was content in them on their brands and characters.
Not to sound like 2 the Ranting Griffin, but why the hell is it so hard for people to NOT go looking for stuff they find offensive, then CLICK on the pic, then look until they get pissed, and THEN rather than look at something else they go and f-ing BITCH about it. Do we really need busy-bodies like this? Seriously? It's not like you can accidentally look at this stuff without a) signing up to FA, b) activating your adult filters on the site, and c) looking at these sort of images.
So, what's to stop a person to find ALL furry art offensive and therefore cause the sponsors to threaten to pull funding unless FA go fur-less? Furthermore, how often will the 'what constitutes cub porn?' be updated until it covers anything even remotely cub-ish? We already have to deal with the complete ambiguity Second Life has on the issue of underage avatars even without adult situations involving them.

Anthrocon 2010 update *explitives*

For weeks the bar where he DJ's was preparing to write him out of the budget by rewiring their sound system so the host for their shows can run everything backstage. We got the news last night that he is now fired, but the manager, who was THERE the whole night didn't tell him. Nope, the gutless bastard made the show's host tell him the bad news after he left. Nothing on the show and its host. They're good people from what I've seen and they can't help it when the bar owner decides to be a cheap f*ck and can't even give us a few weeks warning about the impending firing.
So, since we were awaiting that money to get to Anthrocon this year, we are officially screwed out of 180.00USD. That's the good news. The worst is that we were in a room with several others and now they're short two people for the room with almost no time to replace us.
If you are reading this journal and need room for AC2010, our room was at the Omni with 4 others. I've not gotten permission to say who has the room, but if hey OK it, I will post their FA names on my journal so you can contact them about filling in the spot we had to vacate. We were paying $200.00 for the room and it was to be available for about a week. If one person rather than two joins in I think the cost goes to $250.00.

Suckage and Comissions?
General | Posted 15 years agoJust as I get good news about having space for AnthroCon 2010, the shit hits the fan. This time it's in monitory problems. Due to the severe snows in my region, combined with my getting massively sick and my mate also being without work for months, we're hurting for cash. Things getting turned off and such is not good. Since December, I'm out easily $8000.00 and bills are coming due. We're struggling and somehow managing, but just barely. This just in time for taxes to be due to the greedy state of Maryland, and even more greedy American federal government. I'm applying for a loan to wipe out all but the basic bills and combine the rest into as few as possible with a lump sum left over to keep in the bank for later issues should they arise, but it will take time.
Currently I an without easy internet access but that will change hopefully and we're doing our best to save up for AC'10. While I hate to ask for money, any amount that could be offered would be appreciated and I will do my best to repay however I can and as soon as I can. The easiest way I can think to do this is to attempt to either sell some of my writings. If anyone wishes a commissioned story, I am more than willing to attempt almost any story request. I will warm though that my forte' appears to be smut. My earlier works for years ago are honestly little better than rubbish.

We would prefer a space in the Marriot and are more than willing to pay for our fair share for the space. I will also be more than willing to make a comission story for our host should they wish it. If you are a fan of DJ Scratch Musikatt on SecondLife, then you will know of my mate. He also performs with DJ Rory routine at the Dead Dog Party.
We will be arriving on Thursday and leaving Monday. My mate and I will sadly not be fursuiting this year. We are both bi and open to any things so our potential host/ess needn't fear of bigotry or other unsavory attitudes we may have toward any life preferences.

That link, and one done by Jay Naylor a month or two ago basically make my point. Let me start by saying that factually Global Warming is real. It's a NATURAL process of the planet and leads to ice ages. It's happened several times before any humans were on the planet. Now, that being said, I've no doubt that since the Industrial Revolution humans have increased the speed of the natural warming trend the planet was on at the time. As a species though we can not stop or reverse it. Ice cores have proven the temperatures during the Dark ages were higher than they are now and cooled ff afterwords. Being Eco-friendly is a good thing, but we don't have to give up everything to do so. Recycling, using less fosil fuels and natural resources are just a smart thing to do for environmental and financial reasons. We can burn cleaner fuels to produce electricity than oil. Technology has evolved to a point that coal is a cleaner source of energy. In North America there is more than enough natural gas to supply all our electricity needs for decades. Old stereotypes, propagated by politics, are very hard to kill however. However, when the people who put forth the research that was then severely distorted to support a hoax come forth and say their research could in no sane way be taken to mean what people say it does, you may want to double check to be sure that the people making millions off of the hoax are being truthful or not.
