Last night - My Uncle Derek Passed
General | Posted 6 years agoThe last of the brothers, that my grandmother used to have, 3 brothers and a sister. Growing up in poverty, on a farm that only required one hit with a nine tails to become the best of who they were. My uncle, Derek Smith, passed away last night due to his amputation surgery in a governmental hospital. Because even with success in the hotel industry in his life...he spent all his money and didn't have a retirement plan. Needing to get low healthcare to save his life, that ended up with 2 weeks of suffering.
My uncle, other than me, were the only two homosexuals in my family. And because of him, my grandmother grew up knowing that homosexuality wasn't as much of a sin to her religion than still family. It was because of him, that my outing as a teenage boy back in 2003, ended up with my grandmother telling me 'Are you trying to tell me you're gay? Because if you are, that's okay - I've known since you were 5 years old'.
South Africa before Mandela was riddled with homophobia, so much so we had the act that declared that anyone displaying homosexual tendencies would be jailed and then chemically castrated.
This didn't bother my uncle.
I'm going to share with you a story, my grandmother told me when she was younger.
My uncle always knew he was gay, but couldn't tell his parents, ended up marrying a woman and had kids with her - she did know he was gay but he needed to hide it from the world at that time.
My uncle was still proud of who he was, so him and my grandmother created an underground gay nightclub in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. There, she bounced people coming in until one day - someone told the police of what they were up to and well...the police raided that nightclub. My grandmother's memories of her rebellious self, echoed through my mind, telling me how they jumped walls to escape the cops and hid from them as they laughed to themselves. Those times of rebellion disappeared before I could even understand the word 'homosexuality'.
So you see, my uncle wasn't just...an uncle. He was a hero, like my grandmother was to me all my life.
My uncle had diabetes for the last half of his life and slowly his eyesight also deteriorated. By this year, he was almost completely blind, for he had only one eye visible.
Because of diabetes, he suffered gangrene in his toe 2 weeks ago. A week ago, getting his toe amputated, but it wasn't enough. The medical surgeons didn't do a good enough job and left him to die at the hospital. A city over, an ambulance came to collect him and save his life. They had to end up removing half his leg...but unfortunately it was too late.
He passed away last night, we aren't too sure of the time - or even the reason. The hospital just dismissed his body without us knowing.
So yeah...my uncle Derek, a hero, passed away today. May he rest in peace, and hopefully I'm wrong and he is up there with my grandmother - looking down at us, as we face the world like they did. I'll make them proud to be who I am.

The Reason for my Hiatus. (A lot of stress)

First primary reason is, my uncle was dying in hospital this weekend. Last of my grandmother's brothers. My mother is very attached to him, and he was dying. As a diabetic, and without money, he had to attend a governmental hospital that was supposed to amputate his toe because it grew gangrene. After the operation, doctors found the surgeons did a very bad job of it. It wasn't healing.
He ended up being rushed to hospital last night in another city over, to get proper surgery. They had to amputate his entire leg to stop the poison from reaching his heart.
The operation was a success, and he started eating this morning - recovering.
Secondly, an old telephone account came back to haunt me. They were charging me for a number I cancelled a year ago. And they called me up for debt collection. Meaning my credit score was going into a bad rep. With the house, I'm renting in currently, being sold... I cant have a bad credit record - otherwise I wont get another place to live without the landlords liking me.
A few minutes ago, they called me and sorted it out. They will be crediting me for the debt, and apologized. My credit score is saved.
The oven in the place I am staying in, kept tripping the entire house. And blew up my friend's pc because of it. The landlord finally caved and bought a new oven for the place. But I had to attend to that yesterday. After they installed the new oven, they dropped the old one and glass shattered everywhere. They also had to drill into the cupboards and marble to install the oven and stove top. This caused the entire house to fill with dust, getting into my lungs and causing me to have bad asthma yesterday. This made me very cranky too. I also had to take the entire afternoon cleaning the kitchen (the rest of the house still has layers of dust everywhere, but at least the kitchen is mostly cleaned because of me.
People have been poking their issues onto me during this time, it has made me very upset and caused me more stress than I needed. They pushed me into a deep depression and caused me to be severely anxious this weekend, Monday and Tuesday. Today, I feel better.
This is why I went on hiatus, I couldn't deal with the stress of all of the above. This has also caused me to be cranky with new customers and people who have been bothering me lately. I apologize for those who dealt with that, I'm fine now though.

I need to take a break today and here is why...
General | Posted 6 years agoI'm not sick like a normal person is sick, but I have had ADHD for the past 3 days and today isn't good either. I need to take a break today - other than the fact it's a public holiday in South Africa. I don't feel good, and I think I need to relax as much as possible, if possible. I have to open up for someone who is going to fix the oven for the 2nd time in the last 2 weeks, one of which shorted the entire house and destroyed my housemate's computer. Mine is protected with 3 surge protectors and a UPS, so it wont get destroyed like that...so the owner wants to try get it fixed again, otherwise get a new one...but damn - I can't have it short my house constantly.
Anyway, I need to take a break day today and de-stress. Get some proper sleep tonight since the music in our suburb was way too loud. (They were having some event for Father's Day...and the music was blaring from kilometers away...all I could hear in my sleep was Doof doof doof doof doof doof)

About 2 weeks ago, my main tablet I use to work died. I've replaced it and the replacement should be coming tomorrow. I'm currently using a smaller tablet that is really back for my neck and lower back, as well as my arm when using it. The tablet I got was a replacement for the one that broke, but it's something I've been looking at for a while to upgrade. It's the same cost as my main tablet that broke.
TD:DR : Tablet broke and need funds to replace it, I've borrowed money and need to pay that back before the end of the month.
If you are generous and willing to help an artist out, I wouldnt mind even the smallest of donations. Busy working on a 9 Character Illustration and then other commissions in the priority queue.
The 9 Character Illustration is taking a while but Im also relaxing at the same time from the Christmas burnout.
7th till the 17th I'll become unavailable to work on commissions, flying down to another city for a small holiday.
When I'm back commissions will continue as per usual.

Can't Work: Moving, Trauma and Stress
General | Posted 7 years agoYes, I know this is repetitive news. But I'm moving to a new place in the next week. I need to deal with this week so I can get back into work mode.
And this will be a short journal, I have been dealing with stress of the move just a little bit - things need to be done. I can't work while those things,
if it's paying for parts of the move or fixing the current house up so I get my deposit back, aren't done this week. Also switching over to a new
internet type, Fibre, so that I can get secure connections while streaming.
This is all very costly but I took out a small loan to deal with this week in general.
Now the 'Trauma' part of this journal. Trauma takes a while to get out of your head but recently I was almost involved a car accident that
was completely MY FAULT. It was a mistake, it was dark, I traveled over a Stop street because it seemed like a dangerous area but the other car
stopped before hitting me. I drove on, and that car chased me down and road me off the road to 'talk' to me. Nothing escalated further but
my trauma was 'what if it did escalate towards being murdered'. So, the near death accident experience and the person making it 100% worse,
following me and driving me off the road was just - something I couldn't deal with. And currently I can't.
But reinforcing my idea of the situation - Im trying my best to make the memory into a happy one by replacing parts of fault memories into it.
It's the best way to deal with having Generalized Anxiety, and trying not to make that memory into a recurring anxious one.
That's about it! I need a week break to deal with everything above.

Information: Why Another Special?
Firstly, it was successful last month, a lot of my customers decided to take it on - because it was fair within their price range.
I also noted that I would never do this special again, but something has come up. I have a contract with my landlord to take
on the house I'm currently staying at until the house gets sold. I didn't actually think it would ever get sold for the obsurd
price they put on it. At least not so soon. 2 months ago I bought necessary furniture and kitchen appliances for the house
since my previous house mates would be leaving. They decided to sell me their stuff for an awesomely low price I could not
refuse. On top of that I needed to pay deposit on the rent, utilities and so forth, while still balancing out my current expenses
at the time.
The house got sold. Two days ago I was notified that it has been sold and as per agreement I have 2 months to find a new
place. However, the landlord and their agency is nice enough to help me find a nice place. But in the mean time the places are
a little bit more expensive and moving costs might go up. This is where the emergency fund comes through.
Any cent helps me, if you wish to help donate. But I'm putting up a special because I really want all of you to have a chance at
