How did you get into FURRY?

journal post and got me thinking about how I got into the fandom. It's always been this taboo thing for me until fairly recently (last couple years). For the longest time the pervy side of it was all I knew, until I went to my first fur con and HOO BOY, DOORS OPENED! I denied a lot of stuff that I genuinely enjoyed drawing and participating in. When I look back on it all those years ago I remember the first time someone outted me as a furry because I was drawing anthro characters. At that time I was like "what's a furry?" and it was explained to me as "weirdos who want to have sex with animals." which was just...a very wrong statement. Very very wrong. But I didn't want a label, I had a hard enough time fitting in as it was. Back then it was the norm. Growing up in my small town in the middle of nowhere, normal was VERY SPECIFIC. If you stepped out of the norm you got labeled as "something queer" and you are FUCKED. Everyone was white, christian, and women were always subservient to their husbands. Everyone I knew was against furry and openly made fun of it or shamed others for liking it.
Needless to say, really wasn't the place for me to be. I was depressed, frustrated, confused, self loathing, angry...for a while it turned me into a really awful person. Not proud of some of the stuff I did to my classmates, or how I made them feel. I learned from a young age that anger is dealt with through physical violence - took a long time to understand that it's not. This was the 90s/early 2000s. I'm thankful that our culture is a lot more progressive than it was then. To give you some idea, my parents threatened to disown me if I ever "brought home a woman or a black man" so...yeah. Can't say shit like that these days. But I digress.
A lot of people, even in the fandom, think I'm some big weirdo. And I probably am but think what you want, I've got a life outside the fandom too. I am finally happy. I've welcomed the furry side of me and honestly? It's about damn time.

My whole life got put on hold for work stuff. Hopefully it was worth it (will share once its public) and boss is happy but now I'm trying to get back into non-work life and it's....weird. Just being out in a public place feels weird. Almost claustrophobic??? ahhh too many people! x~x'
Hanukkah, Christmas, and New Years flew by. I miss going to
and hanging with the cool furs. I miss drawing pervy stuff and I miss FA and the shenanigans that go on here. <3

Posted 8 years agoSo...I had a little accident yesterday while doing laundry. I was washing my dragon paws and forgot to take them out to air dry. The claws melted into the paw-fur, taking out 2 really nice shirts with it. x_x' I'm actually way more upset about the shirts. At least this gives me an excuse to go shopping.
I'm on the hunt for some new dragon paws now. If anyone knows of a fursuit crafter currently open for commission (specifically for paws/arms) please let me know! I would really appreciate it. Or if you are a crafter, please note me! Send me some examples! Lets talk~

Posted 8 years agoI applied to some art jobs this past week. It's all I can think about right now. o_o' I also have a really cool project coming up for work that I can't talk about!
I'm going to get some owed commission stuff done this week and close public commissions for a while. I wont have too much free time after this week since I'll have guests over and Halloween stuff.

Slow start, but coming along
Posted 8 years agoBack on the commission wheel! Got all my work done, had a few things come up, been creating some traditional art lately. Started making my dragon some real dragon feet so I don't have to keep matching shoes with my outfit. x_x' That's been a difficult side-project to say the least.
I'm kinda bummed since I haven't done a whole lot of Halloween commissions this month...but prioritieeeeees. Maybe I'll get a moment to put some time aside and do something really fun like costume art. We shall seeeee~ If you've got any ideas, I'd love to hear them!

Posted 8 years agoI'm back from my weekend trip! Had a ton of fun running around and being a dirty meat bag in the desert. This event felt like Fallout 3 in real life and was so much fun it feels like the whole thing was a dream. http://www.wastelandweekend.com/
Work flow and commissions will resume. Going to do my best to keep commissions open but I don't want to get too overwhelmed. I have some projects I've been assigned to from work, so completion might be kinda slow for a while.

Posted 8 years agoEveryone involved in the YCH party has been noted and updated regarding it. Hope ya'all like how it turned out and thanks for helping out with the charity funding. I'll upload the complete image soon! I had a lot of fun working on it but hoo boy, it was a lot of work.

I'm back home and things should be running normally now. Jet lagged and woke up super early this morning to get everything in order. Invoices have been sent out to everyone who responded to my note. I am missing 1 RESPONSE from someone - you know who you are! If I don't hear back from them within a few days I'll just leave them out of the picture.
Donation Status - the piece accumulated a total of $203! Thank you guys! I know I don't have to do this but in these dark times I think it's important for everyone to try to do some good. I appreciate anyone who was willing to tip, but honestly these charities will probably need it more than me.
So $25 went to Houston Food Bank to help with the aftermath of Harvey. Since Irma did some serious damage recently I've given $50 to Shelter Box. They are a world wide organization but you can select Hurricane Irma directly when you donate to them. An additional $25 went to Direct Relief since there are more natural disasters on the way.
Cyclone Jose is growing and expected to hit around my hometown. Apparently there is even another hurricane developing in the tropics as well, so we're not out of the woods yet. All we can do is prepare and brace for these forces of nature. If you're in an area where a disaster hit, beware of other people taking advantage of the situation. Friend of mine told me looters were robbing people at gunpoint while Irma was happening. How horrible. :(
Worth mentioning but not included in the donation drive - the ASPCA, where I regularly donate, does great work and are saving lives in Irma right now.
Thanks to everyone who contributed to this and for taking a look. Stay strong out there and stay safe.

Thanks for checking them out! :D I'd really like to do one of those comparative art things sometime to see how much my art has changed over the years.
I'll probably be out for a couple days while I make a deadline at work. We are wrapping up a project and I'll need to focus for a few days getting everything on my plate finished. Then I'll be back to commissions! And probably open again for a while.
