Updates.
General | Posted 15 years agoWell, first Journal entry of the year. Things have been changing slowly for me, all good I assure you. Hopefully if things continue the way they are, I will be able to have more time to continue with my writing, as well as more costumes too! Will be taking some good shots of the new Cat and Dog ears I have been working on for Otakuthon, so you will get the first look, and possibly first dibbs!
On another note, I have finished with the re-writing of my Pokegirls story, though I have also re-lost my original notes. I was able to complete up to Chapter 20, and have submitted all the re-written chapters onto this site. Please let me know what you think! Also, I have two other Pokegirl stories that I was writing at the same time, and have re-written these as well, once again as far as I had notes to. Currently I am wondering wether I should submit them as well. Let me know.

Closing of the Year
General | Posted 15 years agoSo, with it now being December 31st, the end of the year is creeping up on us. A time for reflection over the past, and time for an optimistic look at the upcoming year. We make resolutions that many of us do not keep, for various reasons, but we all try.
Over this past year I have learned many things, made new friends, lost some older ones, created some really interesting costumes, and a variety of other stuff. For 2011 I am hoping to push myself further in the quality, and complexity, of my costume making, there are a few designs I have been wanting to do for a while, and I believe that my skills have finally reached a point where it will be possible.
Here's hoping that anyone reading this has a nice holiday season, no matter your race, religion or age, and that the end of the year is kind to you, and the upcoming year is even better!

Conventions and other random things.
General | Posted 15 years agoFirst off, I am happy that I was able to finish both Zero Suits on time, even though I had to miss an evening of work and got sick doing so. But both people are happy, even though I was not able to do the boots on time, but I can always do those later. As soon as I get some good shots from both of them, I shall post finished pics.
This weekend is the Naru2U convention up here in Ottawa. I have been hesitant in the past at attending this con, as it was being run by a few members of the Anime community here that I do not particularly like (plus the fact that they were running their own business, and using this convention as an extension of said business). Though, I have heard that many changes have occurred to their staffing, as well as content, and decided that this year I shall not only attend, but shall host a panel, Armor Crafting 101. If you are in the Ottawa area, and are attending this con, drop by and say Hi!
Financially, things are still crappy at the moment. Job not paying enough, too many bills piling up, and not enough time in between to do much work on costumes. Currently, I have decided to not accept any new commissions, there is one or two that I have previously accepted, but will not over-tax myself again. Making two Zero Suits, by hand, in less than a month's time was insane, and nearly caused a mental breakdown. So, until further notice, I will only be working on my own costumes, the two commissions I have previously accepted, and the merchandise that I sell at conventions (namely Otakuthon in Montreal, QC).

General | Posted 16 years agoI have been waiting for a while for a couple of artists to draw my Fursona, but neither of them have come through with a drawing. Luckily I did not pay them to draw it, so no huge loss from my meager funds. But waiting for them is getting to become too much of a bother.
Unfortunately I have absolutely no real skills when it comes to drawing characters. My skills are based more in technical drawings, especially when it comes to designing armor and props for costumes. Though I have been pondering the idea of just trying to draw him myself, though that would most likely turn out terrible.
How much do other artists typically charge for a commissioned drawing of the character? If it was just a line-art drawing, I would be able to color it in myself. If it is cheap enough, I would be interested in having someone on here draw for me.
I would also be willing to do an Art Trade for it, if interested.

General | Posted 16 years agoHappy Valentines Day! Or, if you happen not to have 'someone special', then: Happy Singles Awareness Day!
Aren't you fed up with just how over-commercialized all the holidays have become? How everywhere you turn, stores are screaming out the next holiday, even before the current event has even finished? I mean, it wasn't even near Halloween, when I saw stores starting to put out Christmas items on display, ready for the 'holiday rush'. This makes me sick.
Don't get me wrong, I am all for celebrating the holidays, but not to such a grand scale that mass-media and the huge conglomerate companies want us to celebrate. They've taken Religious and Pagan festivals and ceremonies, filled them with over-cute characters, colors and cards/candies/tv shows/movies/lights up the wazoo, and shove them down our throat.
What happened to the nice old affairs? Where Valentines Day was a small event between lovers. Easter a celebration of the Spring Equinox, as well as that of the supposed resurrection. Halloween being a somber rite to ward away evil spirits and the dead. Christmas.... Originally a nice Pagan festival celebrating the Winter Solstice, and planning for new hardy crops in the spring.
The huge companies have forgotten the roots of the holidays. Too blinded by their own creations to see what they have missed, or destroyed.

Yup. The image we all know, created by the Coca Cola Company to boost sales of their drink. Sure, he was based on older folk characters like Cinter Clas, Perre Noel, among others. Taken, twisted, and shoved into the current incarnation.
We all have forgotten the roots of the holidays, the true spirit of the events we take for granted. Not to mention how "politically correct' the government wishes us to be, as to not offend anyone else. I wish we could just go back to the times where the events truly meant something. Get rid of all the glitz and glamor that is obscuring the origins and truth on the holidays.

Don't get me wrong, I am all for celebrating the holidays, but not to such a grand scale that mass-media and the huge conglomerate companies want us to celebrate. They've taken Religious and Pagan festivals and ceremonies, filled them with over-cute characters, colors and cards/candies/tv shows/movies/lights up the wazoo, and shove them down our throat.
What happened to the nice old affairs? Where Valentines Day was a small event between lovers. Easter a celebration of the Spring Equinox, as well as that of the supposed resurrection. Halloween being a somber rite to ward away evil spirits and the dead. Christmas.... Originally a nice Pagan festival celebrating the Winter Solstice, and planning for new hardy crops in the spring.
The huge companies have forgotten the roots of the holidays. Too blinded by their own creations to see what they have missed, or destroyed.

Yup. The image we all know, created by the Coca Cola Company to boost sales of their drink. Sure, he was based on older folk characters like Cinter Clas, Perre Noel, among others. Taken, twisted, and shoved into the current incarnation.
We all have forgotten the roots of the holidays, the true spirit of the events we take for granted. Not to mention how "politically correct' the government wishes us to be, as to not offend anyone else. I wish we could just go back to the times where the events truly meant something. Get rid of all the glitz and glamor that is obscuring the origins and truth on the holidays.

General | Posted 16 years agoSo, the convention is over, didn't do as well as I had hoped. But I did only come back with 1 pair of ears, and 3 odd tails... so I guess it was successful..
Now, I am hoping to get some more feedback on my stories. Tell me what you like, what you don't like. Things I should change, or perhaps elements I should add in.
I am also hoping to find someone to draw my fursona. So far I have two people working on it, but haven't seen anything from them.

Just wanted to let you all know that I will be attending G-Anime 2010 on February 6th and 7th. My wife and I will have a table in the Artits' Alley, where I will be selling my Cat Ears and Tails, and she will be selling her Needlepoint figures. Come on out and see us!
I will be cosplaying as Edward Elric on Saturday, and a British Military Fox on Sunday!
