Heya all, well, in about a fortnights time it'll be Cinco De Mayo (5th of May) and it'll be my birthday again.

If you've been around the last couple of years, you know I tend to do a giveaway related to my birthday, and I do intend to do one again starting next tuesday leading up to the day.

Well 2019 is coming to an end, a decade as well. This year... sucked? Not a good year for me, mostly due to general work related stress and even being made redundant for my role for 2 months in the year (I got hired back at least, but oh boy was that section of the year bad). Looking back at the post of last year, the Brexit Bomb once again was one of the bigger worries of the year, it didn't go off, but after the last election, it looks like it's almost certainly going off in January... If I become Irish next year, don't be surprised.

Well, at least I'm not ill this christmas, although I do feel I've been behind a lot more this christmas trying to get everything done on time. Speaking of which, the Christmas Giveaway! I need to discuss that!

Every year I've been doing these steam key giveaways, often related to my art dumps of various christmas pictures. This year on offer we have the following games.

Now, as Christmas is the time for giving, you won't be winning these keys for yourself, you will be winning them for a friend, consider it a christmas gift for them.

And of course, you can't just make a post to win the prize, that would be too easy, there will be a riddle to solve as well. I'll be posting 7 Christmas art works to this account, One per day until the new years. And this time, there's going to be 7 different riddles, one for each day.

I'll add a quick note to this, Some of these images will be alternates, the alternates will contain the same puzzle it's original. Each new piece of artwork will have it's own riddle to solve, and that artworks variants will have the same riddle.

Now, in the past I've done first to post the answer, though it's always had the timezone differences. This year, you can post your riddle answers anytime to me on New Years Day (Midnight to 11:59pm). For every correct Riddle Answer you get, I will add your name once into a Lottery. You can have your name up to 7 times in the lottery if you get every riddle answer right. The catch is I will only allow one attempt per person at solving the riddles, get a riddle wrong, you miss out your chance on that one.

The riddles will range in difficulty from very tricky to the one freebie very easy riddle to solve so everyone should get at least one entry in.

Anyway, also wanted to do a heads up on my plans this month, I want to write up thought on Sword and Shield and post that here at some point, and I will once again be doing a christmas giveaway of humble bundle codes. It's Halloween! And isn't it terrifying!

As in, literally terrifying this year, my country has the ticking Brexit Bomb going off possibly right at the end of the month. I'm assuming it'll be delayed again because I government is really bad at this. But we're all clenching our butts until then.

I've been having some off months over the last few months, stressed quite a lot over various things like Job and such. It's not been the greatest of years for me. But things have gotten a lot better for me recently so... hopefully things stay that way till the end of the year now at least? That would be nice.

My Little Pony Friendship is Magic has one last week to go with the final 3 episodes. Whilst it's sad it's coming to an end. I feel it's around time for it, best to go out on a high note instead of living on forever as a zombie. Besides, the show isn't done-done yet, the characters will carry on in the comics for a few years more.

Gen 5 I imagine isn't going to try and rock the boat too much, we'll see what it's like, but I imagine it will be similar enough. I hope it's as enjoyable as FIM is.

Now, If it changes the artstyle, will I update my character refs to match?

Umm... well, that's a scary thought getting them all updated. We'll wait and see on that one.

2 out of 6, whoops. Didn't quite hit the mark there. Main things I were thinking with how the results turned out would be...

- How long I've had the character, the older, the more popular.
- How popular that Pokemon/Digimon they are based on is (I won't lie, there tends to be some crossover)

Ato and Rena were really close in the end, Rena pulling ahead slightly in the final stretch. Sola coming third seems predictable

Terri I thought was going to take Reality so I glad I got that, Ixi got surprisingly close though, which is nice because I haven't used Ixi in too much yet, I guess Shinx are quite popular, Ixi over Aria surprised me.

Power division was the division that had the most newest characters in them, nearly half of them being made this year, Voire taking it was surprising, I felt this one was going to be Nine. I feel Gardevoir and Ninetales are fairly similar in levels of popularity in pokemon so Nine would take it on being older.

Perhaps the one that surprised me the most was Mind, this was going to be a tight division, I thought Tsukai was going to take it, turns out she came joint second, not only did Miloti win the entire group, Izel actually tied with her as well.

No surprises Maw took the time division, whilst I don't have a main OC myself, if I did, it's probably Maw, the fact I can also give her giant jaw an expression as well makes her a ton of fun to work with. Perio coming in second however is very fascinating here, best performance for a nercomer.

And In Soul, Impo took out, this is the other big surprise, to be honest, I was thinking of mixing up his personality a bit. The inspiration for him was a Neku style japanese protagonist (Overly spiky hair included), It didn't lead to too many situations with him unless they are outright embarassing for him. The plan was to change his base personality into a bit more of a troublemaker of explosions style one, think Junkrat or Dr Boom, mainly so he can set up Pranks for others, but also still be pranked and humiliy by himself. If he ranked first though? I gotta think about that now, I thought Lopps was going to ace this division, Lopps overly goofy and dumb head first style leads to many a fun situation.

Still, I appreciate all of your efforts in voting, it's provided some helpful information, and I'm going to use it going forward. I will also be commissioning a big 6 Character Pic of all the winners together as a thank you to you all.

So with my birthday in a week, I wanted to run a quick experiment.

I've got a lot of characters, some say maybe too many (And it probably is too many, but ah well), with all these characters (and more upcoming) I want to find out what everyone favourite is, so let's have a popularity poll to decide it.

But having one poll with all the possible options is going to be a bit tricky to vote on, so I have split my list of characters into 6 randomly generated divisions, that leaves 9 ponies in each of the 6 divisions, so lets see who wins in each!

Today marks start of the final season of MLP FIM, it's been nearly 9 years since the show first airing, and it's been a fun ride all the way through, First watching it midway through season 1, all the way up to the school of friendship in season 8, it is a shame to see it conclude, but the shows still a whole season of episodes to watch, the comic book series is still going to continue and I've got a large backlog of comics to check through, and if the rumored gen 5 designs are what they are, the next iteration isn't going to stray too far anyway. So There's still going to be a lot to enjoy for years to come.

It has made me notice how a lot of things are ending this year for me, How to Train Your Dragon series wrapped up in Febraury with the third movie, we have the big end of the Avengers series with Endgame (Yes it will continue afterwards but it's essentially the series finale), Game of Thrones is airing it's last season as well. Next you are going to tell me BoJack Horsemans last series is this year or something. I guess it's the last year of the 2010's, and 2020 will no doubt see a new wave of idea and media much like back in 2010 where most of these shows as well as others like Adventure Time and Regular Show did as well.

The one thing I wonder if it will end or not is Brexit, yes the UK was supposed to leave on the 29th of March, as you can see, it is now April and our government still has no idea how to solve the mess that is Brexit, and our country makes itself more of a laughing stock with each passing day. I have no idea how this is resolved and I am worried about the ramifications of leaving, that vote result was disastrous and it's still causing chaos to this day, and even if we leave or not, this is only the agreement to leave, if we leave, there's the messy divorce bill to leave, if we don't leave, the media will never shut up about people being robbed of their election and will lose faith in the democracy (As if they haven't already with the last 3 years of failing to solve the problem they dug themselves into.)

...It's going to be an interesting year, I'll say that. Stuff will come, stuff will go, you just have to make the best you can of life and make yourself and everyone else happy in the ways you know how.

Which brings me to annouce that I will be doing another giveaway for my birthday next month on May the 5th, more steam games for all to enjoy. I haven't specifically decided which games yet, but keep your eyes peeled in May for games and various birthday related art as well

Orange Flower = 5*3 + 6*3 = 15 (3 Red Flowers) + 18 (3 Yellow Flowers) = 33 Petals in total
Violet Flower = 5*4 + 8*4 = 20 (4 Red Flowers) + 32 (4 Blue Flowers) = 52 Petals in total

28 + 33 + 52 = 113 petals in for a Green Flower, an Orange Flower and a Violet Flower

Since we needed 5 of each for our perfect Black Flower...

5(28+ 33 + 52) = 5 * 113 = 565 petals in total.

So 565 was the right number of petals for the puzzle. That's a lot of petals on this black flower!. The perfect white flower only has 1!

Well 2018 has been better than last year, but I think anything could have beaten last year considering what happened. 2018 itself was an alright year, a breather after the last 2 on a personal and global level at least. I want to be in a better mood, but unfortunately I've been down with the christmas illness for the majority of the month. Not getting to do exactly what I wanted to do. I at least sorted out most of the christmas gifts for friends and family though. Mother has gotten out of her depression to the point she's been able to go back to work again, which is good.

I do worry for next year though, the big old Brexit Bomb is due to go off in March and our government seems to be trying to kick the can and distract away from it until the very last moment, to either go with a bad deal, or possibly even a no deal... ooph, it's something you wish you can just ignore about as thinking about it will just drive you mad... yet you can't as this is something that is going to effect your entire life and the governments response to it seems to be like this.

Because oh boy, is this one for it. Three things came out this week that are nostalgic callbacks to things I grew up on in the late 90s to early 2000s, and only one of them I actually liked.

I'll start with Let's Go because... uugh. I haven't bought the game first saying, only player the demo, but that alone is enough to tell me that this is the game that's basically not for me, as bizarre as that sounds since Pokemon Blue was among one of the first games I ever owned. A nostalgic throwback to that Kanto should be up my alley? Except... we've been overloaded with Kanto for the last 5 years now. X and Y pushed Kanto hard with you being able to play through the game with the Kanto Starters and even mega evolve them, as well as catch Mewtwo and the Legendary birds... huh, you wanted to mega evolve your Kalos starter? Oh, they didn't make any Kalos Megas. Never mind Greninja becomes the most popular pokemon in Japan, gotta push those nostalgia buttons, here's a snorlax blocking the road again, remember that? Kanto also got the majority of the new Megas as well, whilst Gens 5 and 6 got 0. The anime also did Origins, it's okay... but it drags in the middle episodes. ORAS at least brought us back to Hoenn But then Go comes around and launched with only the original 150 again, so there's just another wave of when talking about pokemon, people would only talk about the Kanto mons again. Go only is now getting to Sinnoh, Roserade only came out last month. Sun and Moon comes out, and I enjoyed Sun and Moon, but again it is going a little too much into Kanto again, the game name-drops it everywhere again, and the big new feature of Alolans (Regional variants of previous pokemon) were given to Kanto only again. This was also when the movies rebooted back to Kanto as well with I choose you... a mess really. Pikachu talks. it's weird. USUM comes out, this one sold with Team Rainbow Rocket being a key feature. This feels like it should be the PWT of villainous teams, and the villain boss matches in it are indeed fun, but it's dragged down by really simple Team Rocket Grunt encounters and basic Rocket traps... Bottom line, I'm sorta tired of seeing Kanto. Then Let's Go gets announced, it's Kanto again, and literally the same thing, Grid and all and pokemon and all, yes, they restricted it to only the original kanto mons, want to use a Scizor, can't get one. Too bad. Sorry if you like Umbreon, despite one the main pokemon being Eevee, you can't get an Umbreon in this game.


They also took any difficulty the originals and fire red/leaf green had and basically removed it. Pokemon games have been getting easier and they should be easy since they are aiming for kids, sure. But this game goes to next levels on that, you gain EXP by catching now and your whole team gets experience, can't turn EXP Share off this time. You also get Candy, that candy can boost stats, but unlike previous Protein and Carbos which were balanced, Candy just lets you get 200 in everything. Yeah, you can have a Level 1 and beat the Champion just on Candies alone. That's probably a lot of grinding, but even just using 50 candies breaks the game in half. There's also the Go Capture mechanics as well with forced motion controls... I don't mind the overworld pokemon, I think that is something pokemon has needed in a long time, but the Go Captures just seem bad, In the demo I played the throws would tend to veer to the left and right a good percent of the time. And even when I did a perfect throw on a Jigglypuff (Smallest circle and all) it still broke out of the ball. I didn't like it in Go and I don't like it here as well.

You'd think they could save it with post game stuff and add some cool things in, but they added Master Trainers which sound like the most boring post game I've seen. 1 vs 1 matches that you need to grind absurd levels (or candies) to beat. Repeat over and over, no new regions to explore, or no additional pokemon outside of the main games pokedex. Just the master trainers, and the cerulean cave again.

It's the first time I'm passing on a mainline pokemon ever, If I were to list everything I don't like in a pokemon game, gamefreak would take that list and make this game (well, except for the overworld pokemon, keep that). I thought that would be the biggest hit to my childhood this week.

But then I made the mistake of watching Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald.

So, grew up reading the Harry Potter books and watching all the Harry Potter movies. Prisoner of Azkabam is my personal favourite story. Fantastic Beasts came out about 2 years ago, and I thought it was fine. Seeing an america themed Wizard World is fun and the beasts are cool, but didn't like the Credence stuff. Unfortunately, this film doubles down on the Credence stuff, with it actually being the main mystery of the film now.

This film feels like a 2 hour trailer for another film, you have the first act to a story, And then the film ends. The films original cast of 4 characters to follow now is like 10, with Newts Brother, Leta Lestrange, Dumbledore, Grindelwald and his crew of cronies you won't remember the names to, a guy out for revenge that I can't remember the name to, Nagini, who's sole defining trait in this film is she's going to be that Snake Voldemort has in the future. It becomes hard to follow everyone in this film.

And then the film decides to turn up the grimdark scale. The potter films did get darker the later they got on, but we are on film 2 and we are already past the point of Deathly Hallows, with deaths of babies and some disturbing rapey-ish scenarios relating to the main plot. Like... can we not be this dark? I want a fun romp searching for all these fantastic beasts (maybe because Let's Go wasn't going to deliver it, the two made by tied).

Speaking of the beasts, theres some cool ones, but they are barely in the film. There's a scene with a Kelpie, but it doesn't go anywhere, and there's a Lion-Dragon thats probably the biggest most important one of the film. Some cats with sunkern eyes that can multiply... they aren't in much, they want you to instead focus on that really important who is Credence thing, espicially since the films final twist revolves around it. and it's a doozy of a one. I won't spoil it, but don't get your hopes up.

So with both Pokemon and Harry Potter letting me down in the same week... thank goodness Spyro is good. The Reignited Trilogy is a charming throwback to the originals, it looks great and it plays as great as it use to. They also added all these cool little touches like giving all the dragons unique designs (The Artisans are artists, poets and sculptors, the Peace Keepers are Warriors, Demolition Experts and Generals). The music is remixed and dynamic as you play through the levels, and you even have the option to have the original music if you prefer it. Graphically it looks like a game from today as well (more than I can say for pokemon), sadly it runs at 30 FPS and there are some frame drops (though this is also the case with pokemon so...). The only big negative I can say is Activision got a little cheap with this, they only have the first game on the disc, you have to download 2 and 3, so if you have Data Cap limits, a warning on that. And there's no subtitles in any of the cutscenes. Subtitles really should be in for anyone deaf or hard of hearing, I'm shocked they aren't in. It gets better in 2 and 3 onwards where you speak to overworld characters and they have text-boxes. But there are still cutscenes with no on screen text to fix that.

So... sorry that got long and ranty. Pokemon and Harry Potter both let me down and I needed to vent a bit on it. At least Spyro is great. Go grab Spyro if you can.

Just posting to say if you need to ask me anything, we do have internet at the holiday location, but of course since I'm on holiday, most of the time I'm going to be outside exploring. Who goes on holiday and just browses the internet all the time after all?

Just wanted to do a general update on how things are going on around here.

- I'll be away on Holiday from the 11th to the 25th this month, we may have internet where we are going, we may not. You never know with these things, I'll update if I do have internet access, but if I don't, well... should be obvious, right? If you need to contact me, aim to do it before the 11th.

- Regular life has been a little on the rough end as my mother has fallen into depression, she was upset from the events from last year that happened to us, but it's gotten worse in the last 2 weeks. Hopefully the holiday will help her recover, but I worry for her. Depression is terrible.

- Work has been pushing myself hard recently with deadlines, so I've been feeling more tired than normal. Hopefully Holiday can resolve that as well.

- I've been accruing a number of Patreon pieces for awhile now, I've been gradually posting them on this account, there's a number more but I don't want to dump them all at once on this account. There is also just finding the time to get them all posted as well, along with coming up with fun descriptions for them as well.

- I've been thinking of some further pony ideas in mind, I've been split in two ways on them, half on pokemon/digimon to base them on (Houndoom, Excadrill, Persiamon) and half on jobs or themes (Military Officer, Chef, Musicians). Nothing final yet design wise, but expect to see more sometime soon-ish.

- There's a lot of TV to watch recently, with Bojack Horseman Season 5 coming out next week probably being the one thing to watch. I'm hoping I got internet next week to watch it.

- End of with some recent game suggestions, The Messenger came out recently, which feels like the Shovel Knight equivalent for Ninja Gaiden, on the most recent humble bundle you can pick up Armello, a great board game (in video game form) which I would describe as Disney's Robin Hood mixed with Game of Thrones, Oh and Okami is available on Switch now, go pick it up if you haven't played it, do it now.

So yeah, primary reason for the journal was to say I'm on holiday for 2 weeks next tuesday, so if you got questions for me, fire them off before I leave. Or you gotta wait for the end of month for it.
