Sonic Movie 2 - no spoilers
Posted 3 years agoENG
On Thursday 7th I was in the front row to see this long-awaited movie. All I'm going to say about this one is: Go see it. It is worth the entrance. Whether you like it a lot or a little is subjective, but it's definitely worth it. You will not regret it.
What I'm going to talk about is my experience that day at the movie theater.
I understand that Sonic is very popular in countries like the USA or in various places in Europe and Latin America. However, in my country I never saw a great interest in the blue hedgehog. The character is known, but not much more than Mario or Crash. Here the most abundant are the fans of anime, marvel or Pokemon. So... the release of Sonic 2 shouldn't be more flashy than any other family movie. Or at least that's what I thought until that day.
To my surprise, the cinema was full of children and not so children, most of them wearing clothes with prints of the character and with clear knowledge of the franchise. If there had been Sonic costumes around here, they surely would have worn them.
During the show I couldn't help noticing that there were groups of guys between 15 and 20 years old making comments about the movie. Sonic was not an unknown subject for them. The children screamed when a new character appeared, and you can't imagine the noise they made in the post-credits scene. Not even in the first film did I see so much enthusiasm. It almost looked like an "Avengers" premiere feature already.
Leaving the cinema I was thinking: Where did all these minions come from? SEGA may have made a lot of mistakes with the franchise, but they've definitely known how to keep the hedgehog relevant, even in a troubled third world country like this.
I just hope no one noticed that in the same room there was a moron who draws pictures of Cream's mom in compromising situations in his spare time. That would be... very cringe.

El dia Jueves 7 estuve en primera fila para ver esta esperada película. Lo único que voy a decir con respecto a esta es: Vayan a verla. Vale la pena la entrada. Si te gusta mucho o poco es subjetivo, pero definitivamente vale la pena. No te vas a arrepentir.

Will I ever get this over with?
Posted 3 years agoIn the "wonderful" year of 2020, I had the idea of creating a comic that would serve as a prequel to Project R, my endless project. The original idea was born as a guide that I was preparing, which would serve as a basis to be able to coherently interconnect all the loose ideas that I had from the main story. I named this guide "Naomi", since it is basically the origin story of this character, which in turn will give rise to the Project R trilogy.
The first part of this guide seemed like a story that I could share without spoiling the main story, so I made the decision to turn it into a comic and publish it. I managed to make a total of 10 pages, but for reasons of time and other personal problems I had to stop its production. After a while I made a "remaster" of the first 6 pages and I had plans to continue with the comic, but once again, personal problems ended up canceling me out.
Even though I didn't have time to continue with the comic, I continued to write the guide, but the more I wrote, the more I realized that the story was getting longer than I had anticipated. Currently, the guide is 34 pages of pure summary. It doesn't even have dialogue, it's just a summary of events. I estimate that I already have more than half of the story written, I just need a little more time to complete it... Time and desire, because writing is more complicated than it seems.
The story published in the comic corresponds to the first two pages of the guide. Yeah... I don't think I'm going to finish that comic anytime soon... Anyway, I've been wondering if I should post this story as soon as it's finished. This guide contains a lot of "spoilers" for the main story of Project R, but on the other hand, it would help answer questions about the origins and nature of the R series. Since I see that many people still believe that they are robots and often resort to Zeta for answers. And no, she doesn't have all the answers. =P

Sonic Frotiers... nope.
Sonic Frotiers... nope.
I didn't think I'd get that feeling again.
Posted 3 years agoIt was like being 15 years old again. It wasn't sad, but it still felt like a stab to the soul. I guess it was asleep for a long time.
I'm not the same as before, I just remembered how it felt. And it's... great.

Happy new year, capybaras.
Posted 4 years agoI definitely don't belong anywhere. What I think and what I do are not compatible with the fauna of the internet. Not even with the people I talk to regularly, who are very few in fact.
This has led me to feel lonely on more than one occasion, but I feel that it would not be sincere to pretend to be someone that I am not just to gain the appreciation of the majority. Not even my need for money is enough to motivate me to be friendlier. But I rely on the law of supply and demand to reach a satisfactory agreement with my clients.
At this point in the game I realize that my work has no potential to be popular. It's a niche work, which will only be appreciated by a small group of people at best.
So far everything has been very ambiguous, with messy scraps of information and constantly changing. That is about to change, and with this, a new stage of my artistic pseudo-career begins.
I'm already old and I begin to feel that life is taking things from me. I must hurry. I wish to feel that at least I tried.

The good, the bad, the ugly and the meh of 2021 (for me)
Posted 4 years agoTHE GOOD:
Godzilla vs Kong
I personally liked King of the Monsters better, but I can't deny that this crossover made me very excited. If only they had worked the script a little better.
The Suicide Squad
I'm an adult and I want to have fun with a good Rated R comic movie. My prayers were answered.
He-man and the masters of the universe (CGI series)
The biggest surprise of the year. The series that was supposed to be for children, ended up being much more in-depth and fun than... the other show.
Sonic Movie 2 Trailer
It was only a trailer, but it was enough to revive my excitement for some blue hedgehog product. One of the movies that I look forward to the most next year.
Aggretsuko Season 4
It felt less fun and exciting than the previous season, but I'm satisfied with the end result.
THE BAD:
Masters of the Universe Revelation
The biggest scam of the year. Nice animation but with terrible writing. It's only achievement has been dividing fans and tainting the franchise. I wish it had never happened.
Raya and the Last Dragon
The worst Disney animated movie of this year. Boring, full of clichés and loaded with an agenda. I almost forgot its existence because of how forgettable it is.
Resident Evil Welcome to Racoon City
Another scam of adaptation. Low budget, bad cast, bad writing. It's amazing that Milla's movies are more fun than this abomination.
THE UGLY:
Space Jam a New Legacy
It's not the worst of the year, but I wasn't expecting much from this "HBO commercial" either. The first was not a work of art either, but I feel like it had more charisma and better 2D animation.
Venom Let There Be Carnage
I feel like this movie was ruined on purpose. Wasted potential. I can't believe Carnage had less development than Riot from the first movie.
Home Sweet Alone
A sequel that no one asked for. A formula that no longer works. It would even fail in the time of the original. Why did I even bother to see it?
THE MEH:
My Little Pony: New Generation Movie
I don't know why I expected more from this movie. It fulfills its function of entertaining, but leaves too many plot gaps. If that doesn't bother you, you will enjoy it.
Sonic Frontiers Teaser
Sorry SEGA, but I still haven't gotten over the Forces disappointment. I will not make the same mistake again. Even Ian Flynn as a writer doesn't excite me.

Movie the Sonic 2
Posted 4 years agoIt's been several days since the premiere of the Sonic 2 trailer and I'm certainly very excited about this version of the hedgehog. Something that video games can no longer achieve in me. (Sorry Sonic Frontiers, you don't cause me any emotion).
I'm pleased to see that production is taking Sonic's legacy into account. The film wields its own lore, but is riddled with video game references. The scenes in the trailer reminded me a lot of Sonic Adventure 1 and 2. And although I'm sure the movie is not going to adapt these video games, I'm content to see how they use these elements to tell a new story. Jeff Fowler and Tyson Hesse are doing an excellent job.
Another point I want to highlight is that I can finally see a development of Sonic's character. Something that video games and previous series almost did not do (I don't consider comics). Already in the first film we could see an origin of the character and how loneliness was affecting him. In this second film we can see him learning to be a true hero. I don't know what you guys think, but that's great to me. Something curious, considering that Sonic was always the character that I liked the least in the franchise. These movies could change my opinion of him.
I understand that Paramount has plans to create more sequels and will gradually add new characters. This is good, because adding many characters in a single movie would end up overwhelming the viewer and give little development time to the characters.
The Sonic franchise is a gold mine if they know how to exploit it properly and I think this movie series has managed to find the right formula. Of course, one misstep could bring everything down, but they would have to be very foolish to allow that to happen.
And to finish, I'm going to say one thing about Sonic Frontiers: I'm not interested. XD
I'm sorry, but after the Sonic Forces fiasco I vowed that I would never be fooled by a nice trailer again. I'm going to wait for the game to be released so I can take a look. In the meantime, I'm not going to say anything more about it.

A minute of silence for the fallen
Posted 4 years agoI suffered but I had fun
Posted 4 years agoWell, that's basically what I experienced when I saw the second part of MOTU Revelation. I had no hope that this series would get any better, but I had to give it one last chance. At least I had a good time laughing at its... charms.
What can I say that hasn't already been said? It's true that this series had a political agenda from the beginning, but that is the least of its problems. What is really serious is the complete lack of knowledge of the original material. Kevin Smith doesn't have the slightest idea what the history of MOTU is. The subject seems to have read some DC comics and felt that with that he was already a scholar on the subject.
Recall that Revelation was presented as a series for veteran fans and was intended to be a continuation of the original product. However, despite the fact that visually the series manages to revive the characters of yesteryear, the story and the lore don't connect with the original material. One could argue that Kevin Smith tried to create his own version of MOTU, but if that is the case, he shouldn't sell the product as a "continuation", because it is not. This is called lying.
But even if we take Revelation as a whole new lore, it still fails as a series. The series not only does not respect the basic concepts of MOTU, but it also goes so far as to contradict its own rules. An example of this is what happened with Castle Grayskull. In the first part it was established that the castle was an illusion to hide its true palace aspect, but this concept is completely forgotten in the later episodes.
To all this we must add a loose script, where events happen simply because they do and where many important characters in the franchise are reduced to simple cameos. Not to mention the excessive prominence of Teela and Evilyn, leaving He Man and Skeletor in the background. Yes, even the latest dialogue these characters have seems like a bad joke to fans. And to put the icing on the cake, Mr. Kevin Smith had the nerve to end his horrendous series with a cliffhanger.
I watched this second part in order to have a better opinion of the product, but if a second season is done (and I hope it never happens), I'm not going to waste my time watching it. In fact, I think we should stop talking about this tragic story, as we would only be advertising Mr. Smith for free.
The best we can do now is support the product that truly deserves it. MOTU's CGI series may not be ideal for fans, but its writers have proven to know the original product much better and have treated their audience with more respect. I know that the first impression is not very exciting, but if you decide to give it a try, you will be pleasantly surprised. ;)

The return of the colored donkeys
Posted 4 years agoA couple of days ago I was able to see the movie "My Little Pony: A new generation". As with "He-Man CGI", my expectations were also low, but this time there was no pleasant surprise.
The idea of a reboot sounded very appealing. FIM was a great series that was not only able to please its target audience, but also managed to become a worldwide phenomenon, but this could not last forever. After 10 years since its premiere, the franchise urgently needed to be renewed. It was the perfect opportunity to put everything learned into practice and create a new product that would at least try to repeat that first boom that FIM caused. And did they succeed? Uh... I'm not really sure.
Personally, I'd say it was a pretty mediocre movie, but with enough engaging elements to avoid being downright bad. Visually it is very pretty. The new equine designs are good and can be very expressive in extreme situations, just like in FIM. The humor maintains a FIM-like quality, with references and easter eggs everywhere. The characters are interesting and one can easily become fond of at least a couple of them. So what is the problem? Well, I find two: The story and the rhythm.
The film shows us a very different Equestria from the previous generation, with many elements that seem to refer to FIM, but at the same time establishing a new lore, which opens the debate as to whether this universe is the same as FIM or is it one brand new. Unfortunately the movie never makes this point clear, and it doesn't bother to explain its own lore any better. The film poses an initial problem, but never explains the origin of that problem. In fact, the movie explains almost nothing about this new Equestria and has even given me the feeling that this world is almost uninhabited.
The pacing of the film is another problem. It doesn't get boring, but it's kind of lazy in everything it does. The humor is good, but it could have been better and the emotional moments could be more emotional. Everything in this movie meets the quota to say OK, but fails to go beyond that. It's very stingy. I will not comment on musicals because that does not fit my requirements
Well, to finish. This new start may be well received by connoisseurs of the previous series, but personally, I doubt that it will be able to attract a new audience or cause a great impact on the internet, something that FIM achieved at the time and that left more than one surprised.
If you are a fan of FIM or at least someone who enjoyed that series in its best moments and want to try something new, you may be able to have a good time with this movie, although I recommend watching it with low expectations. I hope that in the future things will improve.
By the way, my favorite is Izzy Moonbow.

We have the power!
Posted 4 years agoI just saw the first season of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, the new CGI series on Netflix and... not bad at all.
I was curious to see the result of this experiment, but unlike Revelations, this time I had no expectations.
The premise was clear from the start. This would be a reboot aimed at a modern youth audience, so my mind was open to all kinds of changes. Of course, this does not mean that I was willing to applaud any garbage. But to my surprise, the series ended up being better than I expected.
It's basically a reinterpretation of everything known at MOTU. Many characters have different designs and roles, at least on the good guys camp, but there are also many elements of the MOTU mythology present throughout the story, something that every veteran fan will recognize.
Some may not like the "Fortnite" style of the series, but I don't think this is reason enough to belittle it. The story is interesting and the characters are well worked. The rhythm of the series oscillates between the casual and the serious, making it enjoyable not only by a very young audience, but also by adults. In fact, some of the jokes managed to make me laugh. Point for this series, because my adult self does not usually laugh with this type of productions. You know I'm a bitter old man.
I personally really liked the Battlecat and Dark Masters designs. Maybe I am encouraged to buy a toy from this series, as long as my pocket allows it.
Well that's all I wanted to say. I don't want to reveal more details. If you are young and interested, take a look. You don't need to know anything about MOTU to understand this series. If you are a veteran, give it a try. I think it's worth.

I'm not done yet
Posted 4 years agoStill making drawings inspired by a video game franchise for kids that I'm not happy with lately?
Maybe I should quit. Maybe I should forget it. I'm already an adult. Doing this does not generate any monetary value for me and all that is in my mind are memories of a time that will never come back.
Why go on then?
Because I'm too stubborn to stop doing something I like despite the fact that my life has become a constant stress, full of bitterness, sadness and disappointment. And no, I'm not talking about video games.
I'm not going to bore you with my personal problems. You're not here to pat me on the back and I'm not here to pity you. This is the stage and I'm the master of ceremonies. The show must go on.
This is what I chose. I will take everything that I love, be it from the past or the present, and use it to shape what I desire the most. Whatever is not to my liking, I will just ignore it.
I have understood that, even if the room is almost empty, it's worth continuing with the performance, because I prefer to have a small audience that values who I'm and what I do, to have a lot of noisy people pressuring me to do and say what they want.
So some people may not like what I do or how I think. To them I gently say "the exit is over there."

Do you remember?
Posted 4 years agoRemember those days, when Sonic fans called for the return of the Deadly Six?
When SEGA received many messages from fans demanding to see Zavok again as a boss or playable character in the Sonic games?
When crowds of people held vigils outside IDW asking to include the Deadly Six once again in the comics?
Do you remember?
No?
ME NEITHER!!!

Posted 4 years agoI just saw the trailer and... not bad. I mean... I didn't expect anything else. Unlike Revelations, this new version of MOTU has been honest from the beginning, and that is something that I value a lot in these cases. If there is one thing that disappointed me about Revelations, it's that it played on my nostalgia and to this we must add that the producer opted for a confrontational stance with his critics. A very bad reaction.
The new MOTU may like the old fans, as they may not, but at least I don't feel that it's disrespectful towards them. I can make a comparison of this with what happened with Sonic Boom and Sonic Forces. Many people hated Sonic Boom for being a very different concept (in addition to other things), but at least Boom was honest from the get-go, making it clear that this new version would be mainly focused on humor and teamwork. And although the video game was not very memorable, the animated series ended up earning a place in the hearts of many fans, including myself.
Well, to be clear. The new MOTU like Sonic Boom are not my ideals for their respective franchises, but they don't have to be. I can accept new ideas and enjoy them without problems. What I don't usually tolerate is when they raise the "hype" with something that I like and end up giving me something mediocre. I also don't think Revelations and Forces are the worst I've ever seen. I just don't like to be fooled. For the rest, everyone has their own tastes and if you don't like something, you have every right to say so. But remember, when you give your opinion in public, you must accept its consequences.

Phew...
Posted 4 years agoI don't want to be misunderstood. So I write this.
I'm not angry or stressed about commissions, well yeah, but no.
I'm not going to talk about my personal life. I will just say that I'm going through a very difficult period and I don't know how long it will last.
I was angry and just wanted to vent a little.
I make commissions when I need money, but I don't like to beg or explain. I'm just saying, hey, do you want a drawing? This is the price. A free and voluntary exchange.
So, it's not pleasant for me to have this debt. I feel like I'm betraying people's trust and that's not good.
Whatever happens, I'll keep my end of the bargain.

That's it
Posted 4 years agoAfter the YCH and some commissions that I have owed for more than a year, I think I will not do these things again for the rest of my life.
I'm not a professional artist, I'm just someone who draws things for fun, or at least I was.

Sonic is not my only disappointment
Posted 4 years agoLately many "remakes" and "revivals" are disappointing me in a big way. MOTU Revelations has been my last big disappointment.
Seriously... what's the idea? It's that even those who are behind these projects end up insulting the fans for complaining. And this is not new, it has already happened with other series, as was the case with Thundercats Roar.
If they are not going to please old fans, then there is no point in resorting to nostalgia. It's that they don't please the new generations either, who don't understand the references of a product with which they did not grow up.
I honestly don't understand what is the logic of this business. My only deduction is that these people just want to watch the world burn.
Well... as for the YCH, I'm taking a bit of time due to personal issues, I'll publish the finished work soon.
Thank you for your patience.
