NEW RELEASE: ele.mental [EP] (2020)
Posted 5 years ago>BANDCAMP<
>YOUTUBE<
Given how... "current circumstances with the world" has made me limit what time I spend outside (and I hope everyone is staying safe and sane too), I figured I'd make use of that time.
Lyric- and songwise, this is completely unconnected to the overall "mythos" that I've been telling with my original music thus far (from the three albums I've already released to the ones I have planned), but this was certainly a fun project while I put together ideas for the fourth album. The fact that this only took me a few months to write makes me think I could make Album 4 on a slightly smaller scale (ie., two short albums rather than one long one). Heck, I might even do something like this again in the future.
The EP can be streamed for free on YouTube, or an offline copy can be purchased off of Bandcamp for £2.49 (~US$3)
Tracklist:
01. VOID 4:43
02. EARTH 4:42
03. FIRE 4:11
04. WATER 4:27
05. AIR 4:47
06. ÆTHER 10:46

I don't know when the next video will be out.
Posted 7 years agoFor those who follow me on YouTube, I already made a video on the subject, but here's the abridged version:
Basically, I want to film the video for the Dreams of an Absolution cover outside instead of my living room; I'd rather it be a proper "music video". Unfortunately here in the UK, we've been hit with a lot of snow that shows no sign of melting away soon and, since I don't want to risk getting snow (ie, water) in my camera and my guitar (since both are electrical devices), I'm afraid that I've basically had to put filming the video on indefinite hold until the snow goes away.
As compensation, I've decided to make the cover itself downloadable while I'm unable to make the video. Please note that these are Patreon-exclusive (since Patrons get early access to the covers), as both an MP3 ($1+) and WAV ($5+).

It sucks that I won't be able to work on this as soon as I want it to, but some things are just out of my control.
Right now, my current priority is getting the Sonic Heroes cover done as soon as I can, but with this snow, it also means that it's freaking cold (which presents its own problems); here's hoping it improves soon.

2018 update: Racing Stripe A/V / neohylanmay on Patreon
Posted 7 years agoI know I said about a year and a half ago that I was considering opening up a Patreon, and after several months of fence-sitting, I've finally taken the leap and opened one up:
PATREON | RACING STRIPE A/V
What this means for this page I'm still deciding; for now, it's business as usual, but since I've (currently) set it to Patrons getting early access to the finished product to any future cover I make, I may make it so that WIPs (both Sketches and Demos) are covered under that too. Alternatively, the only other option that I can currently of is put up low-quality MP3s (128k, even 64k) of the WIPs here on FurAffinity and make higher-quality MP3 (320k)/lossless WAV versions Patreon-exclusive.
However, this is something I very much need your feedback on.
I do want to say that donating to my Patreon is completely and totally optional. Outside of putting stuff on Bandcamp (under Minimum Free*), I'm not planning on putting my content behind any sort of paywall any time soon. But it is in some ways an indicator as to how much time I can realistically put into making content because while I would love to work full-time on this, it's pretty much a hobby/passion project that I occasionally work on.
(*the cover itself is a free download, but extras such as instrumentals, stems, and high-bitrate versions of demos being purchase-exclusive)

I owe you all an explanation. / To the future ((Patreon?))
Posted 9 years agoIt's safe to say things have been really quiet on this page for the longest time; the last "real" thing I uploaded was my Sonic R's "Can You Feel The Sunshine?" cover and a demo of another song from that game but suffice to say, you've heard nothing else from me in the last 3 months - even on my YouTube channel, the only other thing I've done is a guitar cover to the Doom 3 theme, but thats it really. So, where the hell have I been?
The truth is, I've been a little burned out and in a little dilemma - I'm the type of guy that has a million ideas in his head and doesn't know where to start, so the ideas just stay where they are; but I want to change that. After the release of my "Can You Feel The Sunshine?" cover, I wanted to do a Cover EP of the other songs. Unfortunately I ended up going through a stage of burnout, constantly putting it off, with days turning to weeks turning to months..
Now I'm at the point that I just want to get off my ass and power through. I want to continue work on the Cover EP, but this is where the dilemma pops up:
I also want to focus again on original stuff, since that's always been the "big" project, and I've planned that particular avenue so far ahead - literally several albums' worth of original material - but the sad truth is, not many people really give a shit about original material when compared to "popular thing meets popular thing". That's not to say I'm not proud of all the non-original things I've done, but when looking at the numbers: As of writing: the "Can You Feel The Sunshine?" cover gathered 580 views on YouTube after 3 months; while "Decet Hostium" has only 120 views after six times that, and I spent two and a half years on that.
So with that in mind; here's the plan for the future:
- First off, the Sonic R Cover EP. Not continuing on working it yet, but that's only because I have (surprise, surprise) another one-off idea. Just the one track, another cover, kind of related to the Sonic R Cover EP. Once that one other track is done, I'll start work on the Sonic R Cover EP. That "Living in the City" cover is not going to sit there doing nothing.
- After that, I want to start working on another original material album, which will be a follow-up to Decet Hostium. That album was written as part of a trilogy/ever-expanding-heptalogy, and I don't want to drop that idea either, since I've been building this damn thing for over 10 years now and I don't want to see all of that go to waste.
In addition, I am considering opening a Patreon to help move this along. Now granted, I am fully aware that I have far, far from the largest "fanbase" compared to others, so I'm regarding it more like a "tip jar" than a "pay my bills".
As far as perks are concerned, these are the ones I currently have in mind:
- Free/Exclusive HQ download of covers/songs I produce. This would mean that I might start charging for my material as opposed to the "minimum free" model I have been using, though. I may still be able to have LQ versions on here, but they would have to be compressed down (even though I already do that to fit FA's 10MB limit).
- Demo and/or Instrumental versions. Again, I'll probably still have LQ versions here, but they'll be limited to one or two.
- Stem tracks. Everybody loves to remix stuff, and I'm completely for it. I already release my material under Creative Commons BY-SA, so this would be one step further.
- Physical (Signed?) copies of all the above. Definitely the highest tier for this.
With particular funding goals:
- Better equipment to make better stuff. This one's an obvious one, since I'll admit I don't have the most high-end stuff right now.
- Bringing back Racing Stripe Reviews. Listen, I don't want to start putting stuff behind any sort of paywall, especially since my Lion King review ended on a (very obvious) cliffhanger, but I see it as a project I could start working on alongside the original-material album after I've done the Sonic R Cover EP. Hell, I actually wrote down back in late-2014 the episodes I wanted to do. And while I ended up writing down 13 episodes, it could be something to fill the void while working on the original-material album.
Of course, to go through with this, I very much need your input on this. None of this can happen unless I know whether or not people are OK with it. Let me know if you'd want to support me in this way (since taking on art commissions aren't really my thing), but don't feel like you'd be obliged to do so: The Patreon would be 100% optional (again, it'd just be a "tip jar"), and while it wouldn't outright stop me from making stuff, it would at least help speed up the process and make stuff better (...and what with the £ being a little shit against the $ right now, this could be an opportunity for me to take advantage of).
Thanks so much for checking this Journal out.

Nothing much that can be said here; I was originally in the process of contacting the developers/publishers of this game to see if they could possibly do something with it, but after no reply, I can only assume they don't care, so enjoy it for what it's worth.

Enjoy!
Possibly slowing down until further notice.
Posted 9 years agoFor those who don't follow my Twitter, I stated that Re-Scored #4 wasn't going to be happening this week, as evidenced by the fact that I've been pretty silent these last couple days.
I'm still aiming for it to be finished by 8th March, and while I'm still working towards that date... I unfortunately recently received some bad news in my personal life (I'm OK, don't worry), which could potentially impact that release date.
So, just to be clear: In case you don't see anything relating to a "New Release" on that day, expect it on the Tuesday after (15th March).
I hope you guys understand; it's just that shit's been out of my control these past few weeks.

This time, I set myself a reminder that the video would be going live, so this time you won't miss it on the day of its release. And yes, you msy have already heard the track a week ago (the link for which is right here in case you've not checked it out already), but now you can download it at a much higher quality, just in case 128K MP3 wasn't enough.

Finally, I want to apologise for the delays in getting this track ready over these past few weeks. Hopefully, I should be returning to a weekly schedule, so long as I can keep everything in control. I've already got plans for the fourth Re-Scored Project - and if you have any suggestions yourself, let me know; I'm open to all requests (so long as it can be done - some games a bit finnicky with this kind of thing, so I can't guarantee I'll be able to do every single game you throw at me).
More delays.
Posted 9 years agoRe-Scored #3 is about 60% done, and the music itself is complete, which I'm going to be uploading a lower-quality version of later today. But, the "thing out of my control" from last week reared its head again a couple days ago and because of that, I've missed another couple days of work on Re-Scored #3.
The finished video (and corresponding Bandcamp release) will be out 23rd February. Again, barring any more delays (that I hope won't happen).

No Re-scored Project this week.
Posted 9 years agoWhile I won't go into detail; due to things that were outside of my control, I was unable to work on Re-Scored Project #3 over the weekend. I tend to focus on getting these finished every Tuesday, so #3 should be finished for the 16th of February, provided I don't get any more delays. The upside of this is that I'll have more time to work on this one, so it should be much better.
I know that in terms of exposure, my stuff tends to fly under the radar of most of the Internet (and don't get wrong, I'm grateful for every view I get). But this is something I want to be doing full time, so even though my viewership is considerably small, part of me has been considering maybe starting a Patreon, or possibly taking commissions for anyone who wants any bespoke music in their project (although just as a heads up: I'm running this as a full-time business so depending on how long you'd need me for, it might not be "cheap") - heck, I'm already looking up freelancing websites to see if I can sign up for any projects there. At the moment, I'm just relying on YouTube revenue from the Re-Scored Project (and any other videos I have or will make) and while I'm not allowed to say how much that is, let's just say it'll be a while before I get a substantial paycheck from it.
Either way, next Re-Scored Project should be finished 16th February, barring any more delays that may come my way.

Next Re-Scored Project is taking longer than expected, so unfortunately I couldn't get the whole thing finished in time for today.
HOWEVER, I managed to finish the sound-design (ie., all the sound effects), so it's not like I can't showcase anything.
Full version should be finished for next week. Of course, I'll be working on the music; the WIPs of which will be uploaded here.

>WATCH ON YOUTUBE: RE-SCORED PROJECT // SONIC ADVENTURE 2<
After a two-year sort-of hiatus, the Re-Scored Project finally makes its return! And this time, I'm intending on having it back for good. For those who don't remember, the Re-Scored Project was a one-off thing I did for a University project using their equipment. And while I wanted to do it outside of University, I unfortunately didn't have the equipment on hand. Now that I do, musical updates like this one are hopefully going to be a hell of a lot more frequent.

NEW RELEASE: II - Decet Hostium (2015)
Posted 10 years agoIt's finally out!
I've been spending the last two-and-half years (on-and-off what with university) writing and recording this, and I'm proud to say that I've finally finished my debut album (which is weird to say that only now is it my first album, after I started Not a Number all the way back in 2006/2007). It's a 63-minute mixture of prog, rock, and metal; inspired by the likes of Dream Theater, Coheed & Cambria, with a hint of the likes of TesseracT; and with a storyline that only serves as one piece of the puzzle (the "II" in the title being a bit of a clue ;) ), I'm really happy with how this has turned out, all things considered.
Tracklist:
01. run /INTROD~1.BAT 2:22
02. Overture for the Upgraded 1:21
03. Pareidolia 5:38
04. To Arms, Brothers; We Are At War! (pt I: Fate Denied) 3:53
05. To Arms, Brothers; We Are At War! (pt II: The Rebellion) 5:43
06. Cure? 5:37
07. Man Becoming Cold (The Surrender) 2:15
08. Frozen, Unconscious... Immortal 7:24
09. Rogue Terminal 5:25
10. Machine Becoming Warm (The Uprising) 2:09
11. VICHAMA The Destroyer 4:16
12. Release Candidate 8:14
13. The Ghost Inside 9:05
The whole thing can be streamed for free on Bandcamp, with a download price of £4 (which according to XE, is ~US$6)
Alternatively, if you're not into Bandcamp streaming, I have two versions of the album up on YouTube:

II: Decet Hostium update #008: It's done! (kinda)
Posted 10 years agoBy "kinda", I mean that it's all recorded and mixed, all that's left is to assemble evch track together so that flows smoothly.
Truth be told, I'm actually excited. I've been wanting to do an album in the style that I've always envisioned Not a Number to be in since its inception back in 2006 (over 8 years ago!) and after cancelled concept after cancelled concept (and not counting the Circle Mix project that I did for the RPM Challenge, it's been close to 4 years since my last proper multi-track release), it's finally going to happen.
Of course, there is still the issue of uploading it to the Internet; as I've said manyatime in the past, I want to be using Bandcamp for the album, but I can't upload onto Bandcamp from my phone, which is my only means of Internetting at home. I'll think of something even if that means delaying it until I get Internet on my computer or even selling physical copies and distributing them myself.
Until then, I'll see you very soon! ;)

II: Decet Hostium update #007: The final stretch
Posted 10 years agoThe previous Journal was primarily about II: Decet Hostium so that one was practically #006.
Now I know that December 2014's come and gone and there has been a distinct lack of me announcing the album's release, since yes, I didn't get to finish it by then. I was planning on getting it done by the end of 2014, but I was staying at my parents over Christmas/New Years so priorities were admittedly elsewhere.
The good news is, I've not let this stop me from completing the album, especially since I have but one track to do. I've got a Demo version of it ready to upload here before working on it more, but for some reason, uploading it seems cause FA to time out - it's nothing to do with FA's (dumb) filesize limit; the file is well under 10MB. Granted, I am still forced to rely on my phone for internet due to lack of wireless on my computer. Nevertheless, I will persevere with uploading it onto FA, so who knows, you may see it in a few minutes upon seeing this Journal (knock on wood).
Tentative Tracklist for II: Decet Hostium:
01. /run INTROD~1.BAT [2:24]
02. Overure For The Upgraded [1:55]
03. Pareidolia [5:59]
04. To Arms, Brothers; We Are At War! (pt. I: Fate Denied) [3:52]
05. To Arms, Brothers; We Are At War! (pt. II: The Rebellion) [5:43]
06. Cure? [5:40]
07. Man Becoming Cold (The Surrender) [2:17]
08. Frozen, Unconscious.. Immortal [7:27]
09. Rogue Terminal [5:43]
10. Machine Becoming Warm (The Uprising) [2:17]
11. VICHAMA The Destroyer [4:24]
12. Release Candidate [8:47]
13. The Ghost Inside [9:06]
It's only Track 04 that needs doing and then it's all done. With any luck, it'll be all recorded by the end of the week, then it's all down to mixing the tracks together (so the track times you're seeing are likely to be a few seconds shorter - either way, I'm aiming for at least 65 minutes total).
Of course, there is still the matter of getting it all from my computer to online, but I might be able to work around that.
We are almost there, I promise you.

Good news and bad news
Posted 11 years agoThe good news is: I have Internet in my new place - yeah, I kinda neglected to mention that I moved to a place of my own, which explains why I was silent for a few weeks..
The bad news (and this pertains to II: Decet Hostium): I broke my guitar strings, so I'm going to have to order some more. Meaning I'll have to delay it to DECEMBER 2014. I want it finished in time for the New Year, and it's so close, I can taste it, especially since I've finally got an idea for that one particular track I was stuck on.

II: Decet Hostium update #005: I'm not dead / EXCLUSIVES?
Posted 11 years agoMore of a quick update, just saying that I've not disappeared off the face of the planet, even though I've not put out a new thing in over a month. Mainly because I'm unable to work on II: Decet Hostium due to still being between places to live.
As such, the album has unfortunately been delayed to NOVEMBER 2014. I still want to get this finished, and I'm giving myself an extra month as a buffer.
But fear not, I've come bearing gifts to tide you over while you wait for the finished thing.
I've been busy this past couple week setting up a ReverbNation page in anticipation for the album to get resumed on, which you can view here: http://www.reverbnation.com/notanumber7
On that page are two finished* tracks for II: Decet Hostium, but I'll link them individually here also:
VICHAMA The Destroyer
To Arms, Brothers; We Are At War! (pt. II: The Rebellion)
(*The recording for To Arms, Brothers... is a little old, and does require some minor additional mixing, but since I can't work on it, this version will have to do for the time being)
Enjoy!

II: Decet Hostium update #004: brb
Posted 11 years agoBasically, the tenancy for my apartment ends tomorrow which means I gotta be outta this joint quick.
As a result, I'm going to temporarily be back at my parents' house while I find a place of my own (here's hoping I find something), meaning updates (and possibly work on II: Decet Hostium) might be non-existent for a while. Thankfully as I've said before, all the vocals are recorded; all that needs recording are the guitars.
Current Tracklist (finished tracks in bold, written (but not recorded) tracks in italics, with tentative durations underlined; will most likely change once the tracks are mixed together):
01. /run INTROD~1.BAT - 2:24
02. Overture for the Upgraded (instrumental) - 1:21
03. Pareidolia - 6:00
04. To Arms, Brothers; We Are At War! (pt I: Fate Denied) - ?:??
05. To Arms, Brothers; We Are At War! (pt II: The Rebellion) - 5:44
06. Cure? - 5:40
07. Man Becoming Cold (The Surrender) (instrumental) - 2:15
08. Frozen, Unconscious... Immortal - 7:27
09. Rogue Terminal - 5:44
10. Machine Becoming Warm (The Uprising) (instrumental) - ?:??
11. VICHAMA The Destroyer - 4:24
12. Release Candidate (instrumental) - 8:47
13. The Ghost Inside - 8:48 (TBC)
Still looking at an AUGUST/SEPTEMBER 2014 release. I've finished 8 out of 13 tracks, only 5 to go.

II: Decet Hostium update #003
Posted 11 years agoSo last time I said that I was busy working on the vocals to II: Decet Hostium; I can now say I am FINISHED with recording the vocals to ALL the relevant tracks (a couple needed re-recording, but that's sorted). This does NOT mean however that the album is finished; there's still some instrumentation that needs recording, then the whole thing needs mixing, so there's all that.
I'm really happy with the current reception over the current demo version to VICHAMA The Destroyer, and I can say that that song is finished, but it's being saved for the album like every other track, so no free download for that version just yet if any.
So, here's an update to the tracklist (finished tracks in bold, written (but not recorded) tracks in italics, with tentative durations underlined; will most likely change once the tracks are mixed together):
01. /run INTROD~1.BAT - 2:24
02. Overture for the Upgraded (instrumental) - 1:21
03. Pareidolia - 6:00

11. VICHAMA The Destroyer - 4:24
12. Release Candidate (instrumental) - 8:29 (TBC)
13. The Ghost Inside - 8:48 (TBC)
Overall, out of 13 tracks, 7 are completely finished. 4 need recording and mixing, and only two need the backing written (one of these is lyrical, but as I said, I've already got the vocals recorded; all I need to do is flesh out the song's backing so it's more than just 2 minutes long). I'm going to focus on getting the 4 unrecorded ones done first before writing the last two. I'm still wanting this finished by OCTOBER 2014 (mid-October at the latest, so that's six weeks from now)
I'm so close to completing this and I have everything I need. I only hope time is on my side.
