After two years of postponements due to the pandemic
General | Posted 2 years agoAfter two years of postponements due to the pandemic, Queen and Adam Lambert set off on their UK and Europe tour last summer.
Now Sir Brian May, Roger Taylor and Adam Lambert are heading back to the USA for more of The Rhapsody Tour this Autumn.
However, since its announcement, the 76-year-old guitarist has been hinting it could well be the band’s final string of concerts.
Express.co.uk attended his recent Star Fleet Sessions album launch where he was asked how he could keep doing so many live shows abroad at his age.
And the rock legend admitted he feels he’s finally coming to the end of his touring days.
Sir Brian told the audience: “It’s getting close, I’m on the cusp. The long tours away from home, when you cannot get home? I’m not sure I’m going to do any more of those after this one.
“It doesn’t sit with me as well as it used to. It’s a big sacrifice, a major world tour.”
The 76-year-old made similar comments to Variety earlier this year saying: “Now, it does get to be more of a decision as you get older. I’m not 35 anymore, and leaving home for two months is not easy. But we feel as like if we’re all fit and well, that we’d like to go out there one more time.”
Yet by the sounds of it, if this is their final Queen and Adam Lambert tour, North America this year is only the beginning.
Speaking on The One Show earlier this summer, Sir Brian was asked about another UK tour.
The guitarist said: “It’s not long since we did it of course. We’re going to the States in the Autumn and I think maybe somewhere else in the Spring.”
Where could that be in early 2024? Our best bet would be South Korea, Japan, Australia and New Zealand as Queen and Adam Lambert haven't performed in Asia and Oceania since early 2020, just before the first lockdown began.
He added: “And we get back to…Britain and Europe possibly as well. But there’s no plans right now.”

Giovanni Pernice pulls out of tour
General | Posted 2 years agoGiovanni Pernice has been forced to pull out of his tour with Strictly Come Dancing star Anton du Beke due to an ankle injury.
The professional dancer took to his Instagram account to share the sad news with his followers.
After twisting his ankle, the doctors advised Giovanni to take a few weeks off as he explained: "I need to rest."
As a result, Anton will be left to dance solo on the pair's live tour titled, Him & Me.
The 32-year-old said his injury also means he can no longer take part in any Strictly professional routines.
Giovanni began: "Hi everyone. So just a quick update. As you probably know, I'm on tour at the moment with Anton and doing one of the dances I did twist my ankle on stage.
"Now I've just been to the doctor, to the physio and he advised me to rest for a few weeks, which means I'm not going to be able to dance at the weekend.
"A few people are coming, and I will still be there to entertain all of you with Anton, with my other half, Anton du Beke.
"I will be singing along but unfortunately, Anton will do the dancing bit."
He continued: "This also means that I'm going to miss a few of the Strictly professional group numbers.
"But I just need to give some rest to my ankle and go back stronger than ever for the upcoming series of Strictly Come Dancing, which I am really looking forward to.
"Sending lots of love to everyone out there. And yeah, stay strong."
Giovanni's co-stars and fans were quick to wish the dancer well, with Strictly winner Rose Ayling-Ellis commenting: "Get well soon."
One fan replied: "Plenty of rest with time to recover and remember keep smiling."
While another went on: "Oh.. poor you. But it's most important to recover fully... We love you always dancing or not. Hope your ankle get better soon. Sending lots of love from Japan." (sic)
"Rest up Gio your health comes before anything and I’m sure I speak for millions when I say we can’t wait to see you back on Strictly," one follower stated.

The professional dancer took to his Instagram account to share the sad news with his followers.
After twisting his ankle, the doctors advised Giovanni to take a few weeks off as he explained: "I need to rest."
As a result, Anton will be left to dance solo on the pair's live tour titled, Him & Me.

Still haven't filed your taxes? Here's what you need to k...
General | Posted 2 years agoSo far this tax season, the IRS has received more than 100 million income tax returns for 2022.
That means tens of millions of households have yet to file their returns. If yours is among them, here are some last-minute tax-filing tips to keep in mind as the Tuesday, April 18 deadline approaches.
Not everyone has to file on April 18: If you live in a federally declared disaster area, have a business there — or have relevant tax documents stored by businesses in that area — it’s likely the IRS has already extended the filing and payment deadlines for you. Here is where you can find the specific extension dates for each disaster area.
Thanks to many rounds of extreme weather in recent months, for instance, tax filers in most of California — which accounts for 10% to 15% of all federal filers — have already been granted an extension until Oct. 16 to file and to pay, according to an IRS spokesperson.
If you’re in the armed forces and are currently or were recently stationed in a combat zone, the filing and payment deadlines for your 2022 taxes are most likely extended by 180 days. But your specific extended filing and payment deadlines will depend on the day you leave (or left) the combat zone. This IRS publication offers more detail.
Lastly, if you made little to no money last year (typically less than $12,950 for single filers and $25,900 for married couples), you may not be required to file a return. But you may want to anyway if you think you are eligible for a refund thanks to, for instance, refundable tax credits such as the Earned Income Tax Credit. (Use this IRS tool to gauge whether you are required to file this year.) You also are likely eligible to use IRS Free File (intended for those with adjusted gross income of $73,000 or less) so it won’t cost you to submit a return.
Your paycheck may not be your only source of income: If you had one full-time job you may think that is the only income you made and have to report. But that’s not necessarily so.
Other potentially taxable and reportable income sources include:
Interest on your savings
Investment income (e.g., dividends and capital gains)
Pay for part-time or seasonal work, or a side hustle
Unemployment income
Social Security benefits or distribution from a retirement account
Tips
Gambling winnings
Income from a rental property you own
Organize your tax documents: By now you should have received every tax document that third parties are required to send you (your employer, bank, brokerage, etc.).
If you don’t recall receiving a hard copy of a tax form in the mail, check your email and your online accounts — a document may have been sent to you electronically.
Here are some of the tax forms you may have received:
W-2 from your wage or salaried jobs
1099-B for capital gains and losses on your investments
1099-DIV from your brokerage or company where you own stock for dividends or other distributions from their investments
1099-INT for interest over $10 on your savings at a financial institution
1099-NEC from your clients, if you worked as a contractor
1099-K for payments for goods and services through third-party platforms like Venmo, CashApp or Etsy. The 1099-K is required if you made more than $20,000 in over 200 transactions during the year. (Next year the reporting threshold drops to $600.) But even if you didn’t get a 1099-K you still must report all the income that you made over third-party platforms in 2022.
1099-Rs for distributions over $10 that you received for a pension, annuity, retirement account, profit-sharing plan or insurance contract
SSA-1099 or SSA-1042S for Social Security benefits received.
“Be aware that there’s no form for some taxable income, like proceeds from renting out your vacation property, meaning you’re responsible for reporting it on your own,” according to the Illinois CPA Society.
One very last-minute way to reduce your 2022 tax bill: If you’re eligible to make a tax-deductible contribution to an IRA and haven’t done so for last year, you have until April 18 to contribute up to $6,000 ($7,000 if you’re 50 or older). That will reduce your tax bill and augment your retirement savings.
Proofread your return before submitting it: Do this whether you’re using tax software or working with a professional tax preparer.
Little mistakes and oversights delay the processing of your return (and the issuance of your refund if you’re owed one). You want to avoid things like having a typo in your name, birth date, Social Security number or direct deposit number; choosing the wrong filing status (e.g., married vs single); making a simple math error; or leaving a required field blank.
What to do if you can’t file by April 18: If you’re not able to file by next Tuesday, fill out Form 4868 electronically or on paper and send it in by April 18. You will be granted an automatic six-month extension to file.
Note, however, that an extension to file is not an extension to pay. You will be charged interest (currently running at 7%) and a penalty on any amount you still owe for 2022 but haven’t paid by April 18.
So if you suspect you still owe tax — perhaps you had some income outside of your job for which tax wasn’t withheld or you had a big capital gain last year — approximate how much more you owe and send that money to the IRS by Tuesday.
You can choose to do so by mail, attaching a check to your extension request form. Make sure your envelope is postmarked no later than April 18.
Or the more efficient route is pay what you owe electronically at IRS.gov, said CPA Damien Martin, a tax partner at EY. If you do that, the IRS notes you will not have to file a Form 4868. “The IRS will automatically process an extension of time to file,” the agency notes in its instructions.
If you opt to electronically pay directly from your bank account, which is free, select “extension” and then “tax year 2022” when given the option.
You can also pay by credit or debit card, but you will be charged a processing fee. Doing so, though, may become much more costly than just a fee if you charge your tax payment but don’t pay your credit card bill off in full every month, since you likely pay a high interest rate on outstanding balances.
If you still owe income taxes to your state, remember that you may need to go through a similar exercise of filing for an extension and making a payment to your state’s revenue department, Martin said.

Acquisition pause, Venom, and Ubisoft’s ‘large game...
General | Posted 2 years agoAnother long week on the books, and luckily this one was not entirely dominated by the Microsoft-FTC-Activision Blizzard scuffle. In fact, given that Microsoft and Activision Blizzard have extended their deadline for the acquisition to October, it appears that the whole event is on ice for the near future. This gives both parties (and the U.K.’s CMA) more time to negotiate. Anyway, if I have to go one more week doing a column on the FTC vs Microsoft, I’m going to go slightly more mad than usual. So instead, let’s talk about some other stuff that happened this week.
Ubisoft posted a slight dip in sales for Q1 FY24, though CEO Yves Guillemot remains optimistic, saying it was a “better-than-expected performance.” The company also revealed it plans to launch 10 games in this fiscal year, including Assassin’s Creed Mirage, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, Rainbow Six Mobile, The Crew Motorfest, The Division Resurgence, Just Dance 24, XDefiant, Prince of Persia The Lost Crown, Skull & Bones (FINALLY) and “another large game.” Your guess is as good as mine as to what that last one could be.
PlayStation dropped a new story trailer for the upcoming Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, which finally gave us a good look at Venom. They’re still very shy about letting us hear Tony Todd’s voice — across two trailers, he’s said nine words. But it still looks very good and I’m excited to hear more. Speaking of trailers, Netherrealm today released two new trailers for Mortal Kombat 1. In the first, we saw three new confirmed kombatants: Li Mei, Tanya and Baraka. In the second, we got our first confirmed DLC kharacters, and the rumors were true: Homelander, Omni-Man and Peacemaker join the fray, as do returning fighters Takeda, Ermac and Quan Chi.
As for my personal gaming schedule, I can finally, FINALLY play Final Fantasy XVI now that my husband has finished it. The sacrifices I make for love, honestly. But now I can finally see what all the fuss is about — I’ve barely made it a few hours into the game and I’m already loving how different the game is from previous titles. You know me, I love a good spectacle action game and it certainly is that so far. I’ll probably also play some Pikmin 4 now that it’s finally out. I’ve never played a Pikmin game before, so this’ll be shiny and new for me!

One Of Barbie's Best Scenes Is About The Weirdest
General | Posted 2 years agoWhile "Barbie" doesn't ever tell us where the Kens go at night (don't think too hard about it) Weird Barbie's sanctuary is also home to wayward Kens, specifically, the gay ones. For Barbie's 50th anniversary, Mattel released a series of limited edition dolls to celebrate, including a silver fox named Palm Springs Sugar Daddy Ken. For those unaware, Ken's West Highland Terrier is named Sugar, so the implication is that this Ken is "Sugar's Daddy," but he was styled in a way that said, "I'm a millionaire currently paying for the company of someone 40 years my senior." He wore a green damask print blazer, a pink button-up shirt, and white pleated slacks. He bears a striking resemblance to a man featured in photographer Slim Aaron's photo, "Palm Springs Party." If you didn't know, Palm Springs has a vibrant reputation as a haven for gay men, so it's safe to say this Ken is, you know ... *flips wrist*
But even more delightful was the appearance of Earring Magic Ken. Mattel got wind that girls didn't think Ken was "cool" enough, so they wanted to give him a rebrand and did their research at raves in the early '90s. Do you know who went to raves in the early '90s? GAY MEN. Thus, the 1993 doll sported blonde highlights, a lavender mesh shirt, a necklace with a circular charm, and an earring in his left ear. His moral panic-described "cock ring" necklace is replaced with a Barbie logo in Gerwig's film, but I just about jumped out of my seat when I saw him. Earring Magic Ken is still the most-bought Ken in history because gay men went absolutely wild for him. He was discontinued because conservative parents are sex-obsessed weirdos who can't let anyone ever have any fun, but hopefully, his renewed popularity will inspire a re-release.

3 Tips For Catering To A Niche Audience
General | Posted 2 years agoNiche markets can be rewarding and lucrative places to do business. If you’re trying to run an enterprise in a limited industry, though, you need to have your finger on the pulse of your end users even more than is usually in the wider business world.
Here are three fundamental reminders to ensure that you’re doing everything you can as a company to cater to your niche audience.
1. Detail Your Audience
In most cases, you don’t want your actual content to be too niche. This unnecessarily limits the scope of your audience and can even come across as snobby or elitist.
With that said, it’s wise to get a thorough idea of the intricacies of your ideal customer. Understanding the ins and outs of how a particular consumer thinks, acts, and approaches life can give you a critical perspective as you create content for them.
Some of this knowledge will translate directly into your marketing messages and business strategies. Other elements of your knowledge of your audience will show up subtly between the lines. In either case, it will help boost your authority in the eyes of those who you want to consume your content and marketing messages.
You can’t create individual marketing messages for every customer, but a buyer persona is a great compromise that helps you keep your finger on the pulse of what your average audience member is like. Build a solid buyer persona and then keep it up to date as a fundamental step in maintaining a detailed understanding of your niche audience.
2. Segment Your Audience
Yes, you’re already dealing with a highly personalized group by catering to a niche audience. Nevertheless, it’s always possible to zoom in a little further and find key differentiating factors within your audience.
If you want to cater to a niche audience, divide that audience up further into segmented groups. These help you create hyper-targeted messages that resonate deeply on an individual level, even within a limited crowd.
Spark Admissions, for example, targets parents with children thinking about the college admissions process. Rather than keep its messaging focused on the general college admissions process, though, the brand divides its site into sections focused on the needs of students. Some sections focus on individual grade levels and others focus on the needs of students with varying interests, such as athletic recruiting, attending art or film schools and BS/MD programs.
If you’re catering to a niche audience, don’t assume you’re already diversified enough. Use segmentation to ensure that each message is attending to the specific needs of each part of your core constituency.
3. Provide Customer-Centric Marketing and Support
If you’re catering to a niche audience, your customers will be aware of that fact. From nerds to vacationers and everything in between, if a consumer is part of a small and specific group, they’ll know it.
That said, it’s important for businesses to not just understand but clearly demonstrate that they are focused on the customers that they uniquely serve. This should be a priority everywhere, but it should specifically shine in your marketing and support channels.
Customer-centric marketing is ground zero for emphasizing the customer. True growth comes from catering to customer pain points and aligning them with product features and benefits (not the other way around, as is the case with many traditional marketing models).
If you’re planning on showing your customers that you understand them, you want it to be obvious. Show them that you’re invested in meeting them where they are from the moment they first see your brand right through to the customer retention process.
Showing Your Niche Audience That You Care
You can’t afford to come across as uninformed or uninterested in a niche audience. By definition, any niche competitors in your field will naturally be more honed in, as well, which leaves little room for error.
