Refreshing!
Posted 9 months agoIt's...obviously been a while since I've been around here, WHOOPS. I've been very busy over on Telegram though! And Twits, and that new blue sky thing ;)
Anyway, I'm gonna do my best to upload my more recent work to my gallery here, but in the meantime, I just wanted to get a new journal entry up with my refreshed info in the footer! Check out my Trello or my site for an updated view of my portfolio until I manage to wrangle the time to update my gallery here :)

BLACK FRIDAY for MFF! Roundlings & Pony Plush (FA-only Sale)
Posted 11 years agoHi! Long time no see, huh? Well, things have been VERY busy here at chez Nightengale. The latter half of 2014 has treated me and my mates well, and I'm really looking forward to rounding out my convention year with MFF, a personal favorite for many years now. It's like a relaxacon, well, as close to a relaxacon as a not-relaxacon can get!
Anywho.
I will be in the Artists' Alley at MFF, and I will have ROUNDLINGS & MLP PLUSH.
Roundlings are shoulder-riding super soft chibi plump balls of minky & fur goodness. I can make Roundlings of generic animals, fanart of characters, custom fursonas, ponies, anything! Mostly I'll have stock styles for sale - cats, foxes, dragons, red pandas, raccoons, otters, etc.
I'm taking FOUR pre-con custom commissions of Roundlings, to be delivered AT con.
Each slot is a flat fee. For $75, you get 1 Roundling of any character, any design, any species. No wing or limb or complexity surcharges.
You can buy as many of the 4 slots as you like. The Roundlings will be delivered to you AT MFF. Payment must be made immediately; I will count each payment recieved as a hard dibs on each slot, in order.
To claim a spot, comment to this journal including ONE image reference of your character, and send $75 USD to nightengale [AT] nightengale.org.

I'll Be At Anthrocon! here's what I'll have for sale~
Posted 11 years agoSo. ANTHROCON. It's NEXT WEEK. Are you hype yet????? I'm freaking out.
As usual, I'll be in the Dealers' Den. This year, I'm booth D10. You'd better come see me in all my plushy glory!
"Well, what will you have for sale, Nightengale?" EXCELLENT QUESTION.
I will DEFINITELY have:
-Squeaky Monster Scoodies $35 (Wings, fangs, claws, squeakers, and wildly colorful & SUPER soft print fabrics.)
-Squeaky Bacon Scarves $20 (Yes. It's a scarf, it's bacon, it squeaks.)
-Pride Flag Scarves $10-$25 (Gay, Ace, Genderqueer, Bi, Pan, Trans, Polyamorous)
-Plushy Pride Pals $35 (Plush monstercritters with the pride flag of your choice on their tummies!)
-Paopu Fruit $10-$15 (the "soulmates fruit" from Kingdom Hearts)
-Minecraft Creeper Hoods $30 (sssssssss....BOOM)
-How To Train Your Dragon 2 deluxe hoods $50 (Toothless)
-ROUNDLINGS*
I MIGHT HAVE:
-Deluxe sculpted wearable hood of Cloudjumper (artshow, or silent auction) (HTTYD2)
-Ponies $200+ (Twilight, Teenage Scoots, more???)
-Pokemon hats $30 (Umbreon, S.Umbreon, Lucario)
*Roundlings ready-for-sale is the one single product line that EVERYONE has been begging me to make, and I'm finally doing it! Which leads me to:
What species/colors of readymade Roundlings do you want to see? I was already planning on foxes, wolves, big cats, raccoons, and maybe a dragon design, if I can figure out how to Roundlingify a dragon. What else? What colors of each type should I make?
Premade, ready-to-buy Roundlings will be $30-$50, depending on style.
I will NOT be open for commissions at Anthrocon.
I MIGHT be taking "Choose Your Own Roundling" orders, in which I have premade pieces of roundling and you choose which ones you'd like me to combine.
OTHER STUFF:
Matthew, Bau, Aden, Johnpaul, Kaze, Gabriel: YOUR COMMISSIONS WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR PICK UP AT THE CON. If you will not be attending Anthrocon this year, I will mail them to you. Note me and let me know.
Other-other stuff:
I will NOT be open for commissions at Anthrocon. Please do not ask. I am drastically, embarrassingly, shamefully behind in completing my commission queue. It would be unethical and downright shitty of me to take new commissions when some of my existing customers have literally been waiting a year or longer for their items.
I will not make 'friend' exceptions, because I want to behave as ethically as possible in regards to my commission queue. Please do not ask.
I *WILL* announce commissions ONLINE at some point in the future. If you were looking forward to commissioning me at Anthrocon, I apologize, but please select from the stock I bring to the show, or save up til I announce slots online.

frustrated and regret
Posted 12 years agoNot happy about it, but I'm refunding one of my current commissions in the queue...we're just incompatible as artist and client, clearly, and it IS one of the latest, most delayed commissions.
Another one (ironically, it's the second copy of the same item as the order I'm refunding) has gotten perhaps forever lost in the mail....pisses me off because it's partially my own fault for not double-checking that the client hadn't moved house before shipping the pony. but why would i have guessed they'd have moved house? it all comes down to a commission queue far far too delayed.
I cannot wait to get all of these orders completed and out the door - for my own satisfaction, and for the peace of mind of my customers....

General update~ [edited]
Posted 12 years agoHi everybody. I continue to toil away in the fleecy mines. Nothing much new to report except that I'm sewing.... wow and tomorrow I'm going to be sewing.... and the next day, more sewing!
I will be at Tsubasacon, in Huntington, WV. Then Atlanta Ball Jointed Doll Con, in, surprise, Atlanta. At the start of November, I'm off to Nekocon (Virginia) & I'll also have a booth at Kurokiiro Festival (Pittsburgh).
And finally, you'll all come visit my table in the AA at MFF, right? I'll have plushies~

-COLLAR IS SOLD-
One last note on this short little journal, I have a collar for sale. I don't wear it anymore, and it deserves more love (and use!) than I give it.
It's a real Lagarto Leathers collar, double layered, white and teal with white rabbit fur. It's in really great condition, still very clean and new-feeling. I got it in a partial trade with Lagarto for some merchandise of mine, so I wouldn't feel right asking very much for it at all. Also, it's been modified (by Lagarto) to fit my teensy neck, so it's rather asymmetrical now.
The collar is a 1.5" wide, double layered collar with rabbit fur inside, D ring on the front. It's been cut down to fit a 12" to 14" neck. Normally collars like this sell for $60 from Lagarto himself; I don't feel right asking for any more than $30, and even that might be a bit much, considering it was part of a trade with him.
So, um, best offer? Comment here, please :)

BronyCon Writeup, Otakon Review, Queue Update~
Posted 12 years agoCommission Queue Master List: bit.ly/ez0SXG
*
Time for some chatter about what I've been up to these last five weeks!
So, BronyCon and Otakon both went really well, and I had an incredibly intense (and exhausting!) time at both of them!
BronyCon saw three of my large pony plushes - Wonderbolt Rainbow Dash, Fillysitter Cadence, and a refurbished Rarity (embroidery done by Space Voyager circa 2011). BronyCon was very kind to me and everyone had wonderful things to say about my plush, which was very flattering.
I got to meet E the Pony and also EquestriaPlush, both of whom had booths there! This was super exciting on both counts! EP and her team were so friendly and sweet to talk with, and I really enjoyed speaking with another seamstress whose approach is so different than mine about theory and tactical planning-of-technique. I am such a sewing geek. I got to see her Cadences, Celestia, and Lunas up close and personal, and even got to hold them as well as the others on her table. Very exciting from a technical standpoint. It was like holding a year of information and learning and I came away from our conversation with inspiration to try new things and push myself further in my plushmaking.
E the Pony and I had equally exciting and fun conversations. It was especially lucky that my booth was just across the aisle from his, since he never sells at conventions and him being there was a special treat. I commissioned a custom series of patches (Basco's crest, from Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger) from him, and we talked at length about embroidery technique and theory. Underlayer techniques are so cool *^* I'll be posting photos of the patches he made for me - absolutely incredible smoothness and detail capture. He really, really knows his stuff - he understands the HOW of how his extraordinary machine works, much better than most people I've seen understand their very basic home models. Anyone who says embroiderers can't become artisans in their own right had better rethink it after they see his work.
Another pony fandom luminary I spent some time chatting with was White Dove! She was carrying around a personal Luna and I deeply enjoyed getting to talk with her about her working methods, theory, and what she loves about plushing. Every one of us approaches it so differently. Even ponies that end up looking similar to a layperson's eye have vast differences in how they're constructed, and it's quite literally thrilling to see and be able to compare between them in person.
At dealer load-in, another dealer was carrying a lounging-pose Luna plush from a Russian maker. Three feet long or more, this plush was a MASSIVE piece of work, quite light for her size, and absolutely intricately patterned and executed. Yet another opportunity for indulging my massive geekery for all things technical in the realm of sewing. I'm such an engineer inside. A fabric engineer XD
And that was only the sewers I chatted with! Everfree Radio interviewed me, which was fun! I was running a plushie repair sale since I saw so many plush wandering past who needed some TLC. Collectible Plush fandom that it is, the Pony fandom really seemed to be in need of my help and I was happy to provide.
Excitingly, I was also selling Hasbro-licensed Rainbow Dash kigurumi, representing Brony.com at the convention since they couldn't be there in person.
After BronyCon, I came home and didn't rest - I had only three days to restock, and I'd sold so well at BronyCon that I had no stock in reserve! Roommates helped me out, bless them, because three days later....
Otakon started! And wow, talk about a really grueling convention. I was sick from BronyCon (caught strep throat there, ugh) and Baltimore was hot and muggy as always. Sales were really good, and I promoted my business without adding to my commission queue - an important goal for me there. I saw a bunch of friends I don't see frequently enough - Justine and her group, Jimmy, Hunter, and more, plus bunches of other AA folk I always love to see. Unfortunately, most of Otakon is a blur for me, as I was still sick - and sewing in the hotel room - the whole time.
After Ota, I escaped to New Hampshire....
And I've been here in northern NH for the last three weeks now! Because my sick came with me and kept me down for two whole WEEKS more, ugh, I've decided to extend my stay here, as I work my way through my commission queue. Right now, I'm focusing on the minky plush items in my queue, because A) Most of those items are the oldest/most patiently waiting customers I have and B) I don't have my full fleece workshop here right now. So I can't make Pokemon hats here because I don't have the supplies right now. Minky Plushes take me 2-4 days each to complete, whereas Pokemon hats take me 1-5 hours each, so I'm making the most use of my hired help up here and spending the time getting ponies, roundlings, plushy poufs, and one giant snake (it's an odd one, but will be fun!) worked through my table as efficiently as I can.
In the next few days, I'll be mailing out the first bulk of the items I've completed while I'm up here - 11 ponies. Then the next batch, which will consist of about 6-8 ponies and Roundlings. And past that, some REALLY cool commissions - Lord of the Rings ponies, and a GIANT demon snake plushie!
As always, follow my Facebook Page (Nightengale Needles) for WIP photos and progress shots! Or my Twitter (nightengale13) if you don't have Facebook. Finished photos of the commissions will go up in my gallery here as I have time to update them; but my priority's sewing as much as I can, and getting far through my commission queue, so expect photo updates in batches instead of regularly.
MOST IMPORTANTLY: The re-opening of my Etsy shop and Commissions were originally scheduled for right around now. Those dates have now been postponed due to my sickness! I will not be re-opening Etsy or taking new commissions until ALL my current commissions are complete! This might be as late as the end of this month or possibly early October. But it's not fair to my current customers for me to take new orders while theirs are still not done, so my decision's firm on this!
When I do open commissions again, either at the end of this month or the start of October, slots will open for projected completion for Christmas. And until I do, you can watch the status progression of each of my current orders by clicking that little bit.ly link at the top or bottom of this post!
Alright! So I think that's all the news from my corner of the world -- everybody stay cool and stay fuzzy~
Ta for now,
Nightengale

Ta for now,
Nightengale

Etsy Sale & Upcoming Convention Plans!
Posted 12 years agoIn preparation for BronyCon & Otakon , NN @ Etsy will be CLOSING for the month of August!
So right now, the last of my ON HAND, READY TO SHIP stock will only be available for another 48 hours! This is literally the LAST chance for all of these items before they evaporate at the summer shows!
If you'll be attending BronyCon or Otakon - both of which are held at the Baltimore Convention Center - then I hope I'll see you there! At BronyCon I'll be in the Vendors' room and at Otakon I'll be in Artists' Alley.
After BronyCon & Otakon, I'll be spending a three week sabbatical at a private sewing workshop in northern New Hampshire. I'll be teaching lessons, as well as learning new things myself! I'm taking my whole commission queue to the workshop and with luck, I'll have banged out most or possibly all of it by the time that I return home at the start of September.
So right now is your last chance to get NN stuff til the fall! :)
And, PS, I still have a sale going on the remaining Monster Scoodies :) https://www.etsy.com/shop/NightengaleNeedles

commission queue status
Posted 12 years agoHi everyone :)
I have a lot to write and a lot that I should update everyone on, but for now, it's really late and I'm sleepy. I've spent all day typing up all the commissions that I have in line right now.
Here's the link for the public version of my commisisonlist! it's got all your projects in a line so you can see how i'm doing. (my private copy of course has lots more detail and stuff like emails so i can keep track of everyone.)
bit.ly/ez0SXG
If you've commissioned me and you're NOT on that list let me know riiiiight away okay? And if you've sent me an inquiry about a commission and I haven't answered you yet, please (gently) remind me?
I'm really sorry that I'm generally so busy sewing that I don't respond to as many emails as I should. I'm going to do my best to communicate more frequently and more transparently about how things are going here.
Anyone who's met me in person knows I'm really cheery and chatty and loud in person, but it's really weird - online I'm really nervous and anxious, and I have panic attacks about answering customer emails. Um. I know it's stupid.
Sometimes I get scared of answering customer emails for weeks, and that's just DUMB. I'm working on getting over that!
Okay, this is it from me for tonight. It's like 5:30 am so I am going to go fall over now.
Tomorrow, I'm gonna sew ponies!

Posted 12 years agoI've been away from FA for very nearly half a year! It's so good to be back.
I hope I'll see lots of folks at AC this weekend! I'm going to have a really cool display....if I can get it put together in time! Eep!
If you've commissioned something from me before, stop by and say hello again? I love seeing familiar faces. *heart*

life has kind of sucked.
Posted 12 years agoI wish I were kidding.
You don't need the full update here. Nor do I really feel like putting all my personal stuff out for display on the internet. (You understand.) But let's suffice it to say that shit has happened in great utter huge boatloads.
And in the two months I've been gone from here? I've moved on. Healed. And now I'm back on the wagon.
I'm sewing up everyone's commissions now, most of which are OBSCENELY behind schedule. I'm getting things out the door as fast as I can while maintaining quality, and getting back in contact with everyone who's been waiting far too long for updates.
I apologize for my absence the past two months. I earnestly wish it hadn't happened.
But, it hasn't been all bad. Some commissions I made over a year ago finally came through and they are SO cute and worth the wait!
And all of you who have outstanding orders with me have been so PATIENT and POLITE. I'm blessed to have such kind commissioners.
Expect a lot more updates from me in coming days.
Fight-o!

MWFF MEME
Posted 13 years agoBecause I think this bears repeating, and the con is only a week or so away:
Where are you staying?
With nyil, damaris, mits~
What day are you getting there?
Thursday
Who will you hang out with during the convention?
My preshus plushies. Until I sell them all to my lovely customers at which point I will be alone.
Are there any panels you might be attending?
Nope!
Are you attending any stage or public performances?
Nope
Will you be suiting?
Nope
Do you draw?
I do, in fact, like to draw! However, I am horrible at it and you should never give me money for my drawing.
Do you art?
I DO! I sew plushies, hats, hoods, and other cute things.
What are your limits to arting?
I sew anything that I can! The limit is only how much the fabric tries desperately (but fruitlessly) to escape my clutches.
Are you taking commissions or trades?
Commissions only! I'll be in the Artists' Alley all con~
How old are you?
27
How tall are you?
5'9"
Are you taken? Are you looking for a mate?
I have three beautiful mates, one of which I am engaged to, and I'm not looking.
Can I talk to you?
Please do! Or else I'll talk to you first. :F
Can I touch you?
I'd really rather you didn't other than hugging me.
How can I find you?
Artist's Alley! Look for the NEON BLUE HAIR (yes, it's real) and listen for the squeakers!!
Can I visit your room?
Nnnnope.
Can I buy you drinks?
Oh hell yes! And if it's a drink I like, you might get a discount on merch :)
Can I give you stuff?
Yes! My favorite sorts of Stuff to be Given are rectangular, made of a cotton-based paper, and printed with green, tan, and this weird orangey color inks. They have numbers on them like $20, $50, and $100. :D
Can I hug or snuggle with you?
Hugs yes, snuggles no.
What’s your goal for the con this year?
To make money so I can pay my rent! :D
Are you nice?
I'm told I'm somewhat disgustingly cute. <3
How long are you going?
Thursday to Sunday, I think!
If I see you, how should I get your attention?
I've been known to respond to things like "Hey, Gale!" and "Bird!" - people shouting out my name like that give me enough time to spin around to see you and possibly knock myself over by accident.
Where will you be most of the time during the days?
Artist's Alley
What/where will you be eating?
Usually whatever I am forcibly fed, since I forget to feed myself on a moment-to-moment basis. I never evolved past being a baby in a high chair who needs to be spoon fed.
Can I come with you for food/fun etc?
Sure? Though I'm really not much fun, usually more of a fuzz-covered zombie muttering about bobbins and seam allowances.
Can I look in your sketchbook?
Nope, it has secret plans for not-yet-released product lines in it! *guards it*
Can I take your picture?
Yes, but let me know so I can make the derpiest faces for the camera. But on purpose.

Posted 13 years agoSO LIFE HAS KIND OF BEEN RIDICULOUS AND CRAZY FOR ME.
How about you guys? |D
It's not been all bad - it never is, yanno? Always good with the bad. But goodness there's been a lot of both. And as a result I've been working my tail off IRL and not really posting anything, anywhere, online, at all.
I'm working hard on catching up, but there's literally hundreds of messages to catch up with and dozens of commission inquiries to answer and follow up on.
And of course my highest priorities are: sewing stock for the conventions I'm doing (FOUR in NOVEMBER ALONE) and communicating with and sewing the promised items for my commission queue!!
And I have been super uncommunicative and I am sorry for that. Life has kind of failboated me in that regard. I PROMISE I HAVEN'T RUN OFF WITH ANYONE'S MONEY OTLLLLLL i just. Have had Real Life stuff to handle.
And I'm super sorry about that, believe me (ugh like I WANTED to handle all this afjkdlsfjdskl) but when you're a 1-woman small business and you are blessed with the amazing gift of 400-500 customers wanting your attention all at once, and then life sits on your head and says Y HALLO THAR...and then a few critically awful phone calls come in that shake up your whole world....... WELL. |D;;;
However, expect to see more chatter from me on a more regular basis - though I don't promise it'll be coherent - and maybe, LE GASP, even some actual submissions!!! XD
xoxoxo Love you all,

Pony Plushes - finally!
Posted 13 years agoSo after my last journal - about making canon ponies - I quickly realized I was getting more OC pony requests than canon pony requests - though I was getting LOTS of each of them!
So, FINALLY, this happened.

CUSTOM COMMISSIONABLE PONY PLUSHES ON ETSY. Canon ponies available too, of course.
Limited number of them so I don't get swamped! If you see them in stock there's still "commission slots" left. I figured this was the fairest way to do it! I will just add quantity of available ponies to the listing as I have time for them, so it'll be a constantly rotating queue.
I think this will work well! Prices and lots of options (for different parts, colors, styles, sizes) are listed IN THE ETSY LISTING! Please read the description there and Etsy-Convo me if you have questions.
Go check it out!
Pick-up at Anthrocon, BronyConNY, and/or Otakon is possible, too!
xoxo
Love and tolerate,
Emily /)
ALSO OF NOTE: i will be traveling this next week and responses for inquiries might be once a day, rather than multiple times per day :)

Pony plush requests?
Posted 13 years agoRecently, I'm working on a commission from Justine (it's in the Detective Conan fandom!) and it's plushies, and minky. Now that I'm working with Minky again, I remember how much fun it is to work with!
So, for fun, I'm going to be making pony plushies (thanks, ValleyViolet!) inbetween working on my commissions. Probably I'll make them and put them in my Etsy and let people buy them from there. They'll be all sorts of ponies and all sorts of styles - I'll be making whichponyever catches my attention!
What ponies do you want to see?

A bit of info about my upcoming Commission Openings!
Posted 13 years agoThe remaining commission queue from commissions I took in 2011 is only about a dozen items long, and it will be completed and all shipped out before the 27th, when this queue opens. This new method for my commission queue will only open in very small windows and with a limited number of slots, and it will only open online. These new commissions should be completed by the first weekend in May, if I'm correctly anticipating the degree of complexity in the requests I'll get. If not, by the second weekend.
Requests will be turned away if I do not feel I can complete them within this (these) time windows, since the purpose of this queue is fast turn around and remaining on familiar ground for me (thus only hats, not plushies, which have snarled up the works in my queue progress in the past.)
Looking forward to hearing from you all!
