Opening November Commission Slots
Posted 2 years ago October's almost over, so it's time to take my November orders! But first, The Deadline. I forgot to make a post about it last week because it was kind of a busy week, but we've passed my 15-year FA anniversary, and with it the deadline for my decision whether or not to continue art as a full-time career.
So, without further drama or suspense, I'm very pleased to announce that I will be continuing :3 Thank you all for your patience and continued support throughout this year, lord knows it's been a tough one for everyone. I couldn't have done it without your understanding and positivity. It feels great to have a system again, and not be terrified of my queue. I may have gotten a little overexcited and bit off a little more than I could chew for October's queue but, even then, I still feel confident that I can get all but a couple done by the end of the month.
I'm opening up for my November slots! I do need to throttle them a tiny bit though just so I don't overload myself again, so I'll just be taking about 5 orders (with a little wiggle room for simple comms). Once again, it is not first-come-first-serve, I'll be selecting ideas based on ease or interest.

In short, I'm feeling good :3 It took a Hell March, some art slavery, some restructuring, a lot of grinding, and even a brief bout of frostbite, but I actually feel pretty good. It's been a while since I've been this optimistic about my career lol.
I'll have the rest of my September queue cleared by the end of the month, and I should have a couple more names off my backlog, so I'll be opening up my October slots today. Once again, it's not first come, first serve; I'm still kind of pulling myself together, so I'll be cherry-picking ideas based on either simplicity or interest.
I'll be reading notes all week, and I'll let you know by Friday if you've got a slot.

TMI Update Tuesday, Damn You Guys Have Good Ideas
Posted 2 years ago Wow-wee I put out that comm journal yesterday and got about 20 notes :3 I've more or less picked the 5, and grabbed one or two others I can just do quickly enough, but there were a good number of orders that still looked fun to do! I'm not gonna' overbook myself, but I'll hold onto these notes. If I can cross out enough comms from my queue before the month's up, I'll bump the slots up from 5 to 10. So if you don't picked in this first round, there's still a chance.
Also, I'm sitting on a ton of reject prints because of the eternal struggle against my printer. If you want some cheap prints, maybe check this out. Also consider hitting up the the actual merch store!

Posted 2 years ago This journal mostly exists just to get that last one off my front page. Things are still a little rough here, 'specially with the heat making it so hard to sleep or recover, but I think things are turning around :3

I've also recently updated my Patreon and gotten my Substar working right. The most pertinent update is that my $1 tiers are now just tip jars. I regret to inform you all that I am not Costco nor Arizona Iced Tea, and my $1 donations just kind of get eaten up by fees before they even have a chance to be eaten up by my rising cost of living...So $3 is the new early access amount across the board. But, conversely, I've also lowered the price of the bundle tier. $15 now gets you a brand new, hot off the press, print bundled with two stickers and free shipping (even international!).

Posted 2 years ago I don't really have anything to add to the new FA policy other than I think it was handled with as much consideration and foresight as trusting a fart during a flu, so we'll move right to personal matters.
I feel like it's starting to become more apparent that I can't really hold onto motivation. My good moods don't last very long anymore, inspiration is kind of fleeting. Can't really seem to push myself either. What this means is that I still have pretty abysmal turnaround times on my comms, even after Hell March was supposed to turn things around.
It's not really fair that I'm making people wait so long, but I can't really seem to just push myself to get their order out the door. So I'll be refunding the orders for people who've been patiently waiting for far too long. I don't really know what comes next. I still *really* don't want to quit doing this as a job, but it's starting to look like I just don't have what it takes anymore to remain professional.
We're halfway to the October deadline, so there's still time for me to turn things around. I've still got bills far out the ass, so I still need to take comms or else, but maybe it'll just...be limited to ideas that really grab me. Sorry to be self-indulgent.
TMI Update Tuesday, Burnout and Throttled Comms
Posted 2 years ago Hey y'all, short-ish update this week.
So it seems that following Hell March up with Slave-ril wasn't the wisest of ideas :3 The comms rush of Hell March and the growth drive of April combined took a lot out of me. But also, and somewhat more importantly, the drive itself tripped an alarm with Paypal and I ended up getting a hold placed on my money. This isn't so bad in itself, but I've been having a hell of a time making sure it doesn't happen again :I Paypal sucks, who'da' thunk it.
Anyway, I'm just going to take this as a bit of a sign. Burnout's hitting me hard, so I'm going to take a personal week to finish some gifts and doodles, then I'll spend the rest of the month just hitting my queue because I didn't really get it where I wanted it during April anyway.
I may still pick up a couple comms just to make sure ends are met, but I might be taking those through the barter system or something (I've been loading up my Amazon wishlist with some nonperishable groceries and cleaning/office supplies).
Everything will be fine, just might be a bit of a holdup on new comms until I'm sure it won't cause Paypal to escalate their hold :I

The next pic in the growth drive is finished, but there's currently an issue with my Paypal, so posting will be delayed for another day or two until I can finally get it sorted out. Don't think it's anything severe, so it should be fine. But still, don't want people putting money into a Ko-Fi only for it all to end up in a big hole.

Lastly: as I said before, I'm going to normalize how I take comms a bit. I didn't zero out my queue like I thought I would in April, but I still should start taking comms again in May, albeit at a reduced rate. I'll be posting journals and notices, like a normal damn artist, when I've got slots and I wholly admit that, at least in the beginning, I'll prioritize orders that seem easier or particularly appealing jus so I can move them out faster while still hammering away at my queue.

Posted 2 years ago Oh man Hell March sucks :3 Also yeah there's no way in hell I'll get the queue zeroed out by the end of the month like I thought I would. BUT I should be able to get it to around 10 at this rate, so it should be zero or near zero by the end of April. Since I was already planning to be closed in April for other reasons, this might still work out.

TMI Update Tuesday, Hell March
Posted 2 years ago Hey y'all, happy Tuesday. Got kind of a lot to cover here and it's been shown that people only read about half of the text in every journal I post, so I'll keep it simple.
I am not taking any new commissions throughout March and April. March is going to be hard crunch to empty out my queue, April will have a growth drive and a bit of a recovery period. After this, I'll be restructuring my business so I can take a limited batch of commissions each month and actually get them finished in a timely manner.
Things are going to be alright, but money's going to be really tight in March. It would mean the world to me if people picked up some merch just so I have some cashflow and don't have to put too much responsibility on Fray.

I dunno, January didn't feel great. I'm still optimistic, and I'm still clearing names I guess. Just been struggling to keep up the mood and get that work-life balance. February's looking like it'll be alright though, so far.

WANNA' SELL A DESIGN?:
When you place an order for a solo flat or cell-shaded piece, if you agree to allow me to auction off the character after I've drawn it, you will be entitled to a portion of the proceeds in the form of a refund/rebate of UP TO 100% of your initial commission payment, proportional to the amount for which the character sells. IE: character goes for $60, you'll get a $30 rebate, if it reaches your commission payment or higher, you get all your money back. If the character is AB'd, you stand to earn 100% of your commission payment, PLUS an additional 15-20% profit.
This was intended for character creation, however, if you have an old character you no longer want, you can have me draw and sell this character.
Rebates also have a $25 discount
WANT YOUR PIECE FASTER?: My delivery time on commissions averages around 8 weeks (though I expedite simpler commissions and bone-throws when able). However, if you want to speed things up, you can pay a fee to expedite the commission. Pay 1.5x the commission's price to have it done in 30 days or fewer, pay 2x the cost to have it done in 7 or fewer.
COLLABORATION OPTION: TBA. Collaboration commissions will be coming back this year after I reorganize and reach out to other artists.
As a warning, exceptionally “busy” characters may cost extra depending on the amount of extra time it will take me to draw them.

Posted 3 years ago Whoops, the time got away from me again. Been sitting on a lot of pics to upload, but never found the time or energy. You could have seen them all much earlier over at the Patreon ;D though.
I'll upload in a few batches, and I think I'll stop doing my mega-upload nights and just start putting out a few images after they've been up on Patreon for a few weeks so that this doesn't keep happening.

There isn't really an easy way to say this, so I'll just rip the Band-Aid off in one go: 2023 may be my final year as a professional artist.
I've been mulling this over for quite a while now, and I'm sure it's been apparent that I've been slipping; long turnaround times on comms, inconsistent uploads, degrading health, a few breakdowns on stream, etc.. This journal needs to be a little concise, so I won't pad it with details, but mid-2020 to mid-2021 broke me a little, and created a workflow so disastrous that I'm still sort of recovering from it to this day. Bills don't exactly wait for your health, after all.
But, as much damage as it's done, I still love this job, and I want to try my hardest to keep loving it. So next year is going to be less of a fadeaway and hopefully more like one last giant push. Perhaps unfortunately, that means an increase in prices and more pushing the Patreon and merch. However, I may also be offering more stickers and dropping the price of prints. I need to find a rate that allows for a healthier pace before I'm completely burnt out.
The deadline for my decision will be October 14th, my 15-year anniversary on FA and as a professional. I will try to post consistent "mood updates" where they feel appropriate until then.
Until then, I hope we all have happy holidays together, and I wish us all a wonderful new year :3
EDIT: Aight I should have either just bitten the bullet and wrote a journal too long for people to read; or just not posted this in the first place. I am not quitting art, I am giving myself 10 months to decide if I need to find a new job. Aight? That's like six whole goddamn years in internet time. I would much, much, prefer to just keep doing this as a job, but it needs to be financially and physically stable, and I'm going to try and make it so. Plus, I am not going to die the second I stop taking comms, if we get the Bad End on October 14th, then it just means I'll have a different job. Goddamn. I feel...better...I guess <:3 I gave out some gifts, I started some sculpting projects, I maybe worked out some IRL issues, and I feel like I made a quality jump in my artwork. So, could be worse. Posted 3 years ago Haha time sure does fly when you're kinda' suffering ;D Sorry about the lack of uploads here. I usually try to do my uploads on the first Friday of each month because that's the best time to advertise the Patreon and new prints. Unfortunately, if I don't feel like I have enough done, or I just miss the date by too much, it tends to roll over, and it can snowball pretty bad if, say, there's a deadly heat wave keeping me out of my office with west-facing windows. Also means my queue's a bit of a mess, since I tend to only update it after an upload...Sorry about that.
Patreon finally allowed me to switch to a normal subscription service, so now you can join up on any day and only have to pay your sub on the same day, the following month. Cool shit, maybe check it out if you're also cool ;D. Prints are also starting to come out in bulk, instead of just the one or two each month. In short, this all means that my upload schedule can be a bit more fluid. I'm sitting on three months' worth of art, so I'll upload it in batches over the next week; some today, some Friday, some more on Monday.

Posted 3 years ago Haha I'm glad I uploaded last week cuz I'm gonna' be pretty dead this week <:3c I'm getting kind of roasted out of my office when the sun hits a certain point.
No huge updates for this week, but there are some rumblings. I've been adding new prints to the catalog, and I'll be adding a page with all my available stickers for individual orders now that I'm getting a larger selection of them. Print orders would be pretty fantastic since it's getting too hot for me to work over my tablet all day, if'n you're feeling generous and/or want some NightFaux memorabilia!
And speaking of merch, I'm getting involved in some more risque products. Short and sweet update today. I got a new computer and was therefore finally able to hook up the new tablet I've...actually had in my closet for a while now. I've also upgraded to SAI 2 and reorganized my office space! I feel so futuristic.
Anyway, the actual meat of this update as it applies to you guys is that I'll be taking a week or so off from commissions to A. rest up after that 7-bar Broly super of an upload and B. adjusting to my new setup. New images will be posted to my big orange box as they're completed, and updates will be frequently given in my Discord server.
Expect me to be mostly back in action on Monday!

Posted 3 years ago Sorry the upload keeps getting delayed! Promise it'll be worth it though. I'm actually on the cusp of finally upgrading my setup (computer, tablet, programs) and I just really want to have as much done as humanly possible before an upload.
That way, it should minimize any possible damage from the massive transfer of files between computers and let me feel a little more comfortable about taking a few days to acclimate to the new setup.

Posted 3 years ago So it's been a month of streaming every weekday annnnnnnd I'm actually feelin' pretty good about it. Sometimes I still mess up and go on too long or start too late, but I'm dialing everything in and making good progress. Should have an upload this Friday, but I've actually run into a bit of a snag on the tech side of things so it might get pushed back to next week, we'll see. But hey! So anyway, with my return comes some preventative discipline. I spent my break working on different projects and trying to improve myself. From this point on, I'll be attempting to take better care of, and pace, myself by working specific hours so as to avoid stress injuries and burnout. I'll be creating a lot more warmup lines through polls on my Patreon and I'll endeavor to create more stickers and prints earlier for purchase. I've recently added five new prints available for sale, which you can view in my print folder, plus I'll have new ones available each month for advance order through the Patreon again.
Commissions are currently being throttled a little so I can catch up with my backlog, but I'm working at a great pace again so I should have some space soon. As it is currently Ape-ril, I'll have discounts on all monkey characters when I take new orders.
