I'm Alive!

Plain Text Stories
General | Posted 10 years agoSo, I was finally able to figure out how to make the text display directly on the site so there was no need to download it. Took a little trial and error as well as looking at other stories posted around to see what did and didn't display like I wanted. Now that I have that in my pocket, I can now convert all of my Scraps into .txt files and load them up to display how I wanted.
All in all, I hope anyone reading this as well as the scrap WIP items will enjoy them a little and get a little feel for some of my upcoming works. Most will be random NSFW items while others will be based off of images. So, if you like stories with actual visual elements like images, I hope you will enjoy some of my content.

The "Furry Concept" Essay
General | Posted 10 years agoThe following was just an essay I did back in college a few years ago. Teacher asked us to pick a topic to write on where we had to explain something, so I decided to choose furries and the furry fandom.
This was my opinion at the time, and I haven't read it edited it since I turned it in for a grade. It did get an A grade and my teacher's praise for picking such a topic. Figured to show and share it here.

The basic idea behind being a Furry or "Fur" is rather simple; someone entertains themselves with the idea of being or acting like their favorite animal. This may or may not be to say that they literally behave like an animal, but does entitle everyone to a new way of expressing themselves. Being a Furry though is much more than just wanting to be or act more like an animal. It is it's own culture and lifestyle, just like many other fan favorites, like sports, become parts of their lives, secretive or overly public.
There is not much known about the true history of "furries" and where they came from. Many speculate that it that they date back to the 18th century, predating the Internet, but not actually being called furries until around the 1980s. Thanks to the fact that the Furry Culture sort of enveloping many other things that are very much related to it like Therianthropy, which is like the grandfather of anthropomorphic culture.
People who are a "Fur" are usually drawn in from a younger age thanks to many children games and shows. Shows and movies like Sesame Street, Blue's Clues, the Looney Tunes, and Digimon show animals walking and/or talking just like humans, even having a similar human-like shape. Also, games like Star-fox, Sly Cooper, and Spiro have a very good influence on younger crowds. Some others get into it because of the art & literature because of the creativity that a person can have. As a fur, there is a lot more creative lenience to many, many things in within the multi-media family.
Art is a fairly big part of the furry fandom as it allows people to draw many different shapes as there are many different types of creatures are real or unreal as well as living or non-living. As any work of art, they are only limited by their imagination, thus allowing them to create some very amazing creations. This art also spans from normal pictures as well. All sorts of Furry related art stuff can be found ranging from jewelry and crafts to household items and even costumes called fursuits. While someone might not typically see this sort of stuff at a store, it would not be hard at all to actually go about finding such things online.
Although art and literature is a fairly big part of the Furry Fandom, a normal Furry lives like any other person. This means that they have a normal daily job, possibly even a family. As a Furry, there is no set lifestyle that fits everyone. While the typical furry lives a standard life with their furry side disconnected from their daily lives, others accommodate it into their entire life, mixing both in various amounts from very simple things like pictures and reference to a full out furry related job like making a Fur-suit for others.
Many people within the Furry Fandom have some sort of "Fursona", or Furry Alias that represents them somehow, whether online or personally if not both. Again, as a fur, there is a lot of creativity that can be put into one and usually is for some. There is, however, no general rule stating that a furry must have a thoroughly thought out Furnsona, although like many things, the extra detail is can definitely add to the overall character. Things that a normal profile might include for instance would be the most important, the species of your Fursona, and the next most important, yet not really required, name of your character. Other things might include height, weight, background story of some sort, even the purpose of the Fursona.
Most Fursonas are used online for Role Playing, or RP for short. This is similar to a live action play a group might put on at a theatre. The only difference would be the the fact that instead of physically playing it out, online they are doing it all via words. This makes it more similar to a written play that can simply be read. While not everyone will participate knowingly in RP, some may do so unknowingly through text messaging or instant messaging on computers. This being accomplished by very simply things like "-Hugs him-" or "-Kisses-." The same can be said for a very small percentage of the general, non-furry public.
The most common place to find someone with a furry alias or profile, or RPer would be some sort of online web community. Many places online like SoFurry are large chat sites were people the world over can gather to chat and RP. It also houses a large selection of artworks and stories as well as music and games for the users. A similar and common place for Furries and fans to go is FurAffinity, which is a large image hosting service for Furries, similar to Photobucket, and Tumblr. While these are current popularities, there was not much in the sense of furry web communities before the past 5 - 10 years as heavily as it is now.
This is in part thanks to social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter that have allowed for a faster way to spread the word and keep in touch with others. There are also now a number of Furry social sites like these now as well, one such being MyFur Network. It is very similar to facebook, but instead just for furries. The number these sites is also increasing quickly as more move to online development and communication.
The Furry Fandom like many other cultures has its extremes, taboos, and limits. While the vast majority of furs are not outside of a normal life, the media only ever really picks up the negative aspects of the fandom. Thinking of the fandom in the terms of consumer products, if any are found to be bad in the slightest, the entire lot is frowned about and typically rejected by others. Now, since you can't "purchase" a furry, the media still points out the troublemakers or bad publicity and sometimes blows it completely out the water. This is why Furries are not as widely known of as they could be, and frowned upon by a good majority of those that do hear of them.
The biggest things that have hurt the Furry Fandom within the media is the idea that Furries are ‘sexual beast’ out trying to have sexual advances with real-life animals and other things along that line. While I can not say that there are a few 'bad' grains of rice in the fandom, I can say that compared to the huge silo they reside inside, they make up no where near a single percentage of the total fandom. Yet, they make up nearly 90% of standard media coverage. Thanks to this all, they have a rather bad reputation to those that know, as well as any that learn of them from those that spread around the negative things. While this paper is not made to chance perception, it is meant to be insightful about the Furry Culture and those within the Fandom.
