FWA (aftermath and a few words to people)
General | Posted 13 years agoNice to meet all of you at FWA this year. Thanks to everyone who stopped by my table at the AA. Sorry for being antisocial~
I only bought one souvenir :
tato 's last softcover copy of the collected Pompfiction works. Thanks again for signing and doodling in it, aaaaaaa ;w; fanboy moment
An interesting artist who seems rather friendly and whose sketchbook makes me mad jelly:
darkjinti -- nice to meet you. Please draw more stuff. Don't make me sully your characters !!
myrilla good seeing you again, and thanks for the drinks. I hope I didn't make you feel unwelcome at this convention. There were probably better things that we could've done that everyone could've enjoyed !! But seriously, that hotel burger ended up making me sick later :c
Next time, maybe you'll let me decide where to go 8( You should IM me more often than almost never. :v
sukebepanda thank youu for being so accommodating ;w; !! But the south still sucks 8D
eradragon Thanks for being a friendly guy and a good sport. Sometimes I can never tell if I secretly annoy you or what, but I didn't get that feeling at all this time around.
ritts thanks for hanging out and actually going to the NICE DINNER on Sunday. I can never catch you in one place for very long because you're too busy being a social monster and getting all the pretty girls to talk to you. AND GETTING COMMISSIONED ON TOP OF THAT? Okay, I'm jelly.
pathia ,
revadiehard I saw both of you guys a few times at this con but didn't say anything. I was really hoping one of y'all would recognize me and say hello. Alas! This did not end up happening.
Sorry if I forgot to mention anyone. Feel free to sound off in the comments section~

2000 watchers :0
General | Posted 14 years agoWell, I hit a plateau a while back after I started using this account to mostly post doodles, clean stuff and music, but it would seem that I'm finally about to reach that 2000 watcher mark. I've seriously been hovering around that number for years! When
cautioncat got her 2000 watch mark I was pretty close to it as well, but never passed the number. Now, only 8 more to go...
Thanks to everyone who stuck with me throughout the years. I will try not to disappoint.

JOB (and indie game) PART 2
General | Posted 14 years agoI am now a picker/packer at the warehouse. It is an interesting job, but I get home and don't have much interest in doing anything substantial with regards to my other job (you know, the one I hope to pursue as a career). I need to get some of my love back for it and maybe that will give me some more energy. Either that, or I can give it another week and see if I "Get into the groove" and can come home with more of that aforementioned energy.
So far, what I've done since december..... I made some peg and bumper graphics, some screen scaling code for various handheld devices, and that's about it. What else needs to be done is about 50 more levels, a "story", some gui code and assets, and of course a soundtrack.
Perhaps I'll show some more stuff soon. I hope some of y'all are more interested in buying a mobile game from me than you were some of my doujinshi (still available, btw!).
See you next time ¦3

WORKAN JOB
General | Posted 14 years agobeing an indie game developer doesn't always pay the bills, especially when your team's income relies mostly on the company's publishing and returns (you know, how all small teams' income is!), so in order to make ends meet, I've taken a second job.
Having worked retail most of my life, I am not a physical labor kinda guy (I know, big shock!), so this new job is quite interesting to me. Many of the workers are temps who don't speak much english, so unlike previous jobs, I mostly don't have to rely on social skills to get shit done. That's the easy part. The hard part is that some of this shit is BACK-BREAKING MANUAL LABOR! Every Wednesday at least, and more if they need me, I'm apparently supposed to help unload shipping containers full of heavy boxes onto pallets, and boy let me tell you, is it a workout xwx
I have a lot of respect for the people that do these jobs quietly and efficiently. A lot of 'em really are jobs that many people born and raised here just don't wanna do. Or just don't wanna do for the amount that companies are paying. But let me tell you, money's money, and if you have the motive and ability to do something else, but just not the means, there's apparently a lot of these jobs around for the people who apply to them (you have to apply to a bunch though; not everyone calls back). I was desperate, and this was the job I ended up at. I want everyone to understand that it is a job, nonetheless, and probably that most people shouldn't feel above doing this shit, at least temporarily, to keep yourself from getting thrown out on your ass. (I'm not a couch surfer, but there but for the grace of god go I, and such!)
I can't imagine this being a person's only job for life, unless they really only wanted to lead a relatively simple life. Security is not guaranteed at these temp agencies, so I have to imagine that even a lot of these young guys are looking for better opportunities, even if they have huge barriers to overcome (language, lack of connections, etc). They all seem like smart guys, I just haven't breached the barrier yet from my end to figure 'em all out. (My Spanish is extremely rusty and I'm not even 100% coherent listening.)
This is my first weekend off, and I'm gonna need to be using this time to work on my main moneymaker game so that I have more breathing room to seek better employment opportunities. The warehousing stuff is pretty much 40 hours per week, something else I'm not used to yet -- everyone takes break at the same time, and lunch is at the same time every day. A roach coach swings by and people buy lunch off it if they forgot to pack their own. It really is something.

Lots more doujin for sale (including Yamashita Woory)
General | Posted 14 years agoHello! I've listed a bunch more doujin in my store, so now it's not so boring to look at. I still have about 15-20 more I have to list (including the TRUMP stuff), so there will probably be one last journal posted here when that happens. However, I think now's a good point to let everyone know that the next auction of a reasonably well-known kemono artist is now available for auction (and Buy-it-now):
http://www.thedealersden.com/auctio.....tion_id=108339 (nsfw)
The Ikuta Takanon sale went great, and here's your guys' chance to get your hands on an actual Woory doujin. I added a buyout price at the highest I could reasonably expect to sell it, based on the takanon one.
But there's also a whole lot of other interesting stuff on the store now! There's likely going to be something interesting for you, too, so please check it out.

Selling my DOUJINSHI collection, plz read
General | Posted 14 years agoHey all.
As a result of the costs of a moving out I'm gonna have to make at the end of the year, I'm selling off a large portion of my doujin. Some of the stuff I think will be more popular, I've put up for auction (prices start below $10, I'm hoping that they'll go up a bit!). Everything else is available on the store I created over on the Dealer's Den website for immediate purchase (no stressful bidding necessary).
http://www.thedealersden.com/shop.php?name=mediaket&user_id=101394 (NSFW)
Right now, I've got a nice Ikuta Takanon doujin listed, and sometime later I'll put up something by TRUMP that probably none of y'all have seen before. So check it out, please take a look at some of this stuff, and help me out if you can <:3
Thanks a bunch! And happy bidding, if you happen to participate in any of the auctions~
I'll keep everyone posted on new updates...

ATTN Bronies: Spike sculpture for sale
General | Posted 14 years agohttp://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230714310735
Oh my, it's Spike, and he's been crafted with TLC by none other than
kattywampus . Acrylic on sculpey. It's a nice piece and (for right now anyway!!) the price ain't too much, so maybe you could consider helping her out and making a bid on it if you're a FiM or Spike fan <:3
I don't watch the stuff, myself, but Spike's definitely a cute character in the series, and this is a pretty good likeness of him if I don't say so myself. Good luck and happy bidding! (Maybe let your friends know about it too if you don't plan on bidding, eh?) :B

midwest furfest?
General | Posted 14 years agoWho is going to MFF this year? A friend of mine floated me the idea that we could go and perhaps use the artist's alley to cover the costs. I live about 45 minutes away from the place, so it's entirely possible, if I can get parking there (or it's easy to take the train there). I'm not sure it's the greatest idea, but I might be able to get a little very-important spending money to help cover my expenses.
I've never been to MFF so I don't know how hard it is to snag an AA seat, what the restrictions are on content, and rules and such. Anyone who has experience with this, I would deeply appreciate it. Can I sell music? Does music sell? Commissions? Adult OK? Pay up-front, pay later? Materials? Prices I should charge? Any advice you guys have, I'd really appreciate it.
Thanks a bunch.

Stopped having a boring tuna,
General | Posted 14 years agostopped having a boring life.
Too much stuff has happened since my last journal post. I mostly don't contribute much here anymore. There's multiple reasons for that. Sorry. I'm not really going anywhere though; most interesting everyday life stuff has changed from being on here to Google+.
As for job-related stuff, I started a side project a couple months ago to fill the money gap I've been having lately. I hope it will be done soon. More info on that will be available later, but again, I post about it on Google+.
I want to get back into music. I've created a few audio experiments which I don't have a good place to upload (since they're just short little things). I might turn them into full songs sometime later. Got everything from simple rhodes ditties to eurobeat experimenting.
Spent the last week fixing my car and getting life things in order. Big changes in my life is coming soon. I might talk about it here or I might not, we'll see....
Thanks again everyone for sticking around.

Spritesheet slicer
General | Posted 14 years agoHere's something quick and dirty I whipped up. This program will take a spritesheet and slice it up into individual images for you. No offsets or special filenaming right now, it just slices based on a grid, which is what I needed for a specific job. Probably useful for importing sprite animations into flash, or another program that can take sequential filenames.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1417196/imgSlice.exe
Requires .net framework 2.0
Edit: stomped a minor scaling bug
Edit2: changed filenaming to remove extraneous spaces. Files should release when image is changed in-program.

So, have you guys been hit by the worm yet? Here's the method, and it's stupidly simple:

gg, indeed, FA.
Edit: Thanks to people who suggested NoScript; of course this only works if you have js enabled by default, are logged in, etc. Which most people are
Edit 2: You can run the journal exploit code on yourself in a controlled manner here: https://koiru.veekun.com/fa-ssl.html (please check the source code first, I'm not responsible for whoever's hosting that code -- probably eevee -- changing it and making it do something not advertised)

malware
General | Posted 14 years agohnnnnnngh. So today, I was looking for a comic book on a Chinese forum, and got quite a nasty cocktail of malware the likes I've never seen before. It completely wiped out my windows update service, changed my hosts file, added a custom DNS server to redirect my google results (even after the main components were removed!), and added itself as a service; but worst of all, it changed the association for .exe files to re-run itself every time any EXE on the system was run, making it come up even in safe mode.
The custom DNS shit (privatedns.com btw, Canada you should be ashamed of yourselves for allowing this business to continue to operate) basically would try and make it look like it couldn't load anything that might help the issue, such as Windows Safety Scanner, Malwarebytes, or anything like that; not like it mattered, since the main payload was gonna disable any of those things upon running.
Once I started to attempt to remove this fucking thing, I realized just how hosed my system was. Running SFC to try and make sure none of the critical system components were altered wasn't enough -- in fact, it caused my system to fail WGA validation and on top of that, killed my graphics card driver (which was already on thin ice, but caused full halts in standard mode). All of this because I just wanted a comic book? :<
So far, here is what I found my computer infected with today:
win32/FakeRean
PUP.keylogger
Alareon.A
Wimpixo.E
Trojan.Hitoli
I'm not even sure if I'm out of the woods yet...
And as if that weren't enough annoyances today, a stray ember caught my shirt on fire while I was outside, burning a hole in it. It was my favorite green shirt too :c

birthday!!!!!
General | Posted 14 years agotoday I am very old ¦3;
It is also my brother's graduation today, so I will be doing lots of things today. Couldn't sleep last night!
So, good stuff I hear is coming down the pipes:
1. A couple people are supposedly drawing stuff for me, which makes me very happy, even if they weren't all birthday-related things <:3
2. My boss got me PORTAL 2, woooooo!!! Now, I have to free up 11gb of space, because I am totally out.
3. I came up with a really crazy awesome idea for a mobile phone game, which will be addictive as hell. Think q*bert meets marble madness meats bombuzal, but totally unique in its own right.

eurobeat
General | Posted 14 years agookay, so, I admit.... I've been getting back into eurobeat again, after I thought I had squashed the bug in the early 2000's. This is all
kuroneko 's fault btw!!!!!! Anyway, back when I first heard eurobeat music back in the late 90s, it basically blew my mind. I'd been used to relatively tame music on my computer at the time, and hearing it was just so different from what I was used to. It was full of action, and it was fast. I got a bunch of tunes from various places but were mostly crappy things from bemani games or whatever.
Then, one day my bros were visiting when one of 'em (a car guy) suggested we check out Initial D on the Netflix. Well, I'd avoided such a show like the plague, since in my mind I figured it would be a total "rice-fest" with the types of meatheads who popped boners at movies like "The Fast and the Furious". However, the animation of the first season kinda grew on me, and so did the character development. And damn. It's full of eurobeat music.
Looks like I've got the bug again. I spent several hours tonight looking for "the sound" which makes this genre the way it is, and I think I've gotten real close. Romplers such as Roland's JD-800 have a brass preset which when you tweak the dials on the device a slight bit produce the sound which everyone wants to hear. That banging chorus of synth chords stabbing out their hook. Only problem is, I don't got a JD-800, and am not very smart when it comes to "designing" instruments for my own music. I'm a composer, not a producer, dammit :)
In the meantime, I'd found some random eurobeat producer who is selling his producer pack on a random forum. If a month or so goes by and I'm still stuck on this kick, I might break down and buy the damn thing. If I do, you can be sure I'm gonna try to make the cheesiest fucking song I can think of, just you wait.
And now, some eurobeat music for those of you who sat through my bs.

FaeSaga: new engine demo (with gameplay!)
General | Posted 14 years agohttps://youtu.be/9OKkc3XxTzE
lotsa hard work condensed into a few days. Hoo boy. This is the very first test demonstrating several new features to the public: Hitboxes, template support, new sprite zOrder compositing, death particles, static background loader (for detailed backgrounds where a simple tilemap just won't cut it!), menu sounds and animations, and the heat haze weather system. Watch in full screen for best effect, and Be sure to read the full description on youtube! And lemme know what you think :3

General | Posted 14 years agothe FaeSaga blog, for which I spent a good chunk of last night writing a new article for. This article is about user interfaces, and specifically, the evolution of the design of the equip screen. Come see some horribad concept art, and screenshots of equip screens from other games of in the classic era that share the same genre. Your input and comments in general are of course appreciated.

CharImages FontMaker (graphical font maker) 1.0
General | Posted 15 years agoIt's released! After a long time.
I wrote this tool for use originally internally in our group, but I think its usefulness extends beyond that. Those of you who use graphical fonts in your games will probably know how to best use this. Leveraging it to rapidly prototype graphical fonts is a real boon. In the future, I may attempt to have this tool do its work on raster glyphs as well, but currently it's still pretty useful.

And with this, I'm probably back to working on the game.

Development blog
General | Posted 15 years agoagainst my better judgment, I might as well link you guys to the dev blog for the project I'm working on. Since this is my 9-5, I may take the link down later in case this audience gets too rude, or whatever. However, considering how relatively few updates I've made the past year or so, I think you guys would probably be interested:

Yes, it's totally a generic blogspot template. Until the game is closer to going gold, there isn't a large impetus to commissioning a logo and background artist, and getting all the CSS prettied up beyond the few tweaks already made to the thing. However, in order to drive up attention to the project, I'm actually supposed to be making my dev log posts public now, instead of in the private wiki.
What this means is that a lot of the posts I make on there are now made for the sole purpose of random people reading it, since my old private log was mostly full of scratch like "got x done. TODO:wyz". Now, I can't assume that any potential viewers know about the project, so at this point I'm kinda "setting up" the notion with a bunch of screens and some other things. Woo :3
So, if you are interested in this sorta thing, please follow our project's blog, and maybe tell your friends, or whatever.

The issue below has been resolved to a satisfactory understanding. However, I still wonder if this issue wouldn't have been dealt with in the manner it did if Dragoneer didn't notice me posting this right away.... With that being said, I owe Dragoneer my thanks for working to make things right. Thanks.

First of all, hello everyone, I'm back from DC. This is not a journal about that trip (I may write a journal about that later). It's about something that bothered me.
As you guys may or may not know, Pinkuh stepped down as an admin recently. However, one of the last things she did as an admin before leaving apparently was to completely wipe the entire gallery of a friend of mine, without regards to content, under a dubious interpretation of the new ToS/AUP. This is probably not unusual. However, it is the first time anyone I knew about it was affected by this sort of action, and the response bothered me.
I tried to help my friend by explaining how to file a trouble ticket, fully believing that some other admin would find the removal of the entire gallery to be a mistake (as he never intended any of his art to be considered "cub art", and there was a lot of clean art which was deleted as well). Alas, the response was less than tepid, and actually quite strange with examples given.
The failure of the remaining FA admins to attempt to make things right has led me to believe that there is still a quite shameful policy to treat certain users differently than others under the same rules here. I've tried to stay far away from this drama over the past years, since I figured the admins would solve their own problems, but my hand has been forced, and I had to write this journal to express my utter disappointment.
My friend is unsure whether or not he is even welcome on FA anymore, and seems to be confused and upset by the events which have occurred in his absence (namely, the deletion of his gallery). He doesn't want to leave the community, but it seems like he's being forced out the door. I don't blame him, either. I don't see why his works and "kemono" art style could be interpreted as a violation of the rules. I feel upset, as well, knowing that the treatment he had to go through maybe wouldn't have happened if people thought it wouldn't be a blip on the drama radar.
It's not okay to drown a puppy just because it's asleep and you're sure no one will hear its last breaths. I'm disappointed in you, FA.
