Suggest our theme for NordicFuzzCon 2017
Posted 10 years ago2013: Vikings vs. Pirates
2014: A Steampunk Murder Mystery
2015: Scandinavian Folklore: The Enchanted Forest
2016: Atlantis: The Lost Paradise
2017: ... ?
These are all the themes for the NordicFuzzCon conventions so far, including the theme for our upcoming convention in 2016. But now you can have a say in what our theme will be for 2017 and beyond! We want you to send us your best convention theme ideas. What theme would you love to see realized at future iterations of NordicFuzzCon?
You can send in your theme suggestions to: theme[at]nordicfuzzcon.org
Please give it some good thought before submitting, especially around these four topics:
Conbook. Would the theme lead to a visually appealing conbook?
Costumes. How easy is it to dress up as something related to the theme?
Decorations. Does the theme have many possibilities when it comes to decorations?
Events. Does the theme allow for any good theme-specific events?
Feel free to include information on any of these topics in your submission, and anything else you deem relevant. Be sure to include a clear description of your theme, and bonus points if you include one or more suggestions for a snappy convention theme name to go along with your submission.
Theme suggestions must be in no later than August 31st.
Remember, suggestions must be sent in by e-mail to the address above.

All contributing artists will be given due credit in our conbook.
We will be looking forward to hearing from you!

NordicFuzzCon 2015: A Retrospective
Posted 10 years agoWe are happy to say that the convention was a big success and would like to thank all who attended! Our very first year at a new and considerably larger hotel, and we ended up selling out all our beds. We even had several attendees who were late for signing up who ended up sleeping at a nearby hotel instead. In all we had an increase from last year from 273 to 392 registered attendees this year (an increase of over 40%), and in all 24 different countries were represented.
During the convention we raised a total of 53 675 SEK for this year's charity, Hittehund. This is a small organization which does important work, taking in and relocating dogs in need, and the money will make a real difference for their continued work and in the lives of many of our canine brethren. As we saw during the closing ceremony, your efforts were much appreciated, and they even posted a personal journal to their website recounting their experience with NordicFuzzCon: http://www.hittehund.nu/fantastiska.....icfuzzcon-org/
Here are some further highlights from this year's convention:
• This was the first year where we had our very own FuzzBus™, transporting attendees from the airport and train station directly to the hotel - and back again. Tickets for both the late departure and early arrival buses were sold out.
• We had a total of 184 registered fursuiters, so things were naturally busy in the fursuit photoshoot room. The pictures are now all up in our online gallery, together with the attendee and fursuit group pictures: http://galleries.nordicfuzzcon.org/
• The pointless button (found in the lobby) was pressed a total of 14 300 times.
• We managed to set the elevator on fire before the convention had officially opened, requiring the services of our good friends from the fire department. The elevator in question was sadly down for the remainder of the convention, but will return stronger than before next year.
• A disposable plastic cup with a doodled drawing on it sold for 5 500 SEK in the auction (with all proceeds going to charity), leaving our auctioneer speechless and our charity a bit happier.
• The Security Department got their very own mascot in the form of Bröööl Brölsøn (who's a mööse).
• Making its debut at this year's convention was the fursuit for our official cheese-loving mascot, Mausie! Lovingly crafted by Templa, and ready to take on the world - or at least an impressively large cheese wheel.
• As far as we know, none of our attendees attempted to drink the hand sanitizer liquid.
• Our guests of honour, EZwolf and EosFoxx, recorded a fursuit dance video at the convention together with our attendees. The video is now online: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AW7zSu7wmWs
While the convention was successful there's always room for improvement, and we would love to hear from you if you have constructive criticism. If you attended but missed your opportunity to give feedback during the convention either through the feedback boxes or the feedback panel, we also have a section on our forum where you can give leave feedback: http://forum.nordicfuzzcon.org/topi.....-Feedback-2015
You can also leave links to your own photographs or videos from this year's convention for others to enjoy: http://forum.nordicfuzzcon.org/topi.....nd-Videos-2015
If you have any pictures from this year's NordicFuzzCon that you would like added to our official galleries, you can upload them to a ZIP or RAR file, and send the link to the following e-mail address: photos[at]nordicfuzzcon.org
In the e-mail, also include your badge number and under what name you would like your pictures to be posted.
As for NordicFuzzCon 2016... As we revealed during the closing ceremony, we will be returning to Utsikten Meetings as our hotel from March 3rd to March 6th. Our theme will be Atlantis: The Lost Paradise, and coming all the way from Malaysia to be our guest of honour is none other than the talented artist Silverfox5213! For 2016 we are also introducing SUPER early arrival, for those who want to get a head start on the fun. More information on this offer will follow later. Our new website is scheduled to go online on June 13th, at 23:59:59. (Note that registration will open later still.)

Helping Hittehund: Charity Lottery and Art Show
Posted 11 years agoDo you have too much stuff? Feeling generous for a good cause? Would you like to help out this year's charity, Hittehund?
Hittehund works to rehouse dogs who need to find a good, loving home. Read on for a couple of ways you can help them out!
As part of NordicFuzzCon 2015, as in previous years, we'll be running a Charity Lottery. Here, the idea is to have lots of wonderful prizes which our attendees can win. These can be furry items, commissions and creative gifts, even sweet treats or baked goods. Anything that you think would be of interest to other attendees!
For those who are looking to submit items to the Art Show, then please consider offering a percentage to our charity, too.
If you'd like to find out more about how to donate to the charity, please contact our Charity department: charity[at]nordicfuzzcon.org
Thanks so much!

Introducing: the party wing
Posted 11 years agoCowabunga, party furs! Did you know we have a party wing this year?
This is an offer for those furs who like to be a bit louder, who have a higher toleration for noise, who want to be closer to the disco, and who might be planning on throwing a room party or three. That's not to say it's okay to blast Dr. Bombay's hit song "Calcutta" on your sweet tape deck all through the night, though you will be less likely to get noise complaints from neighbouring rooms. But if you're asked to keep it down, you should be respectful and try to oblige.
To sign up for the party wing, first log into your account on the NordicFuzzCon website. Then go to View Booking, then further into Additional Information. Then check off the box for "I am interested in staying in the party wing" and press "submit changes", and you'll be on the train to awesome town! If you are rooming with someone, both you and your room mate must have the party wing selected to be eligible for inclusion. It must also be noted that we cannot guarantee that you will be placed in the party wing; there may be more party goers than available rooms.
If you wish to join the party wing you must update your booking no later than Sunday, February 15th. After which you will be unable to join said party wing (or make any other changes to your booking, including room shares and badge uploads). Being fashionably late is usually cool, but in this case it's way out of style.
Catch you on the fuzzy side!

Charity for 2015: Hittehund
Posted 11 years agoNordicFuzzCon proudly presents our charity for 2015: Hittehund.
Hittehund is a small organisation that helps dogs in need to get a new home. They also keep an eye on how they are doing in their new home.
The dogs have very different backgrounds. Some dogs have been abused, some have an owner who cannot keep them any longer, and some again are homeless dogs. But they all have the one thing in common: they need our help.
Hittehund consists of a network of private people who volunteer their time to help the dogs. They do not have a dog shelter nor the ambitions to have one. Instead, they use their own homes, or foster homes. These unpaid volunteers sacrifice a lot of time on this, and with caring love they make sure the dogs are healthy, happy and ready to get a new home.
The organisation survives on donations and whatever profit they get from the dogs they relocate. But they could really use a helping hand — or paw. In fact, they need OUR helping paws, so please help us make a difference!
You can read more about Hittehund on their website (only available in Swedish).

Working for NordicFuzzCon
Posted 11 years agoIt's a lot of work putting together an event of this size, so we are happy for all the help we can get. When you register, you can check off a box which marks you as being interested in doing volunteer work during the convention. In which case you may find yourself occasionally getting grabbed when someone on the NFC staff or crew needs an extra paw with a task. Volunteering this way is an easy way to show your interest in helping during the convention.
However, certain departments are almost always on the look-out for volunteers prior to the convention. Either for doing pre-convention work, or to prepare for the work that needs to be done at the convention. They're listed below, and if you believe you could be an asset to them we encourage you to get in touch.
• There's the Security Department, which can be reached at security@nordicfuzzcon.org. They generally make sure everyone is safe, that no non-attendees wander around the convention. Perfect for those who like looking out for others and keeping the peace, and who can keep their cool in a heated situation.
• There's the Medic Department, which can be reached at medic@nordicfuzzcon.org. Do you like taking care of others when they need help, and do you have prior experience with first aid? Send them an e-mail and ask if you can offer your services.
• If you are more the artistic type, there's the Media Department at media@nordicfuzzcon.org. They deal with all manners of things that require artwork, such as PR, website content, as well as the conbook. They would be happy to hear from you!
• Likewise there's the Decorations Department at decorations@nordicfuzzcon.org. They make the hotel look pretty and suitable for the convention's theme. They're also happy for artwork, and people who want to help with the actual crafts and getting everything up.
It's a way to help give something back to the convention, helping to improve the convention-going experience for others, and it's even a good way to meet and interact with new people. So why not give it a thought? While it can involve a lot of work, the warm fuzzy feeling you will get from a job well done will no doubt make it all worth it in the end.

Registration, room sharing, and badge uploading deadlines
Posted 11 years agoNordicFuzzCon 2015 is very close now, and we would like to announce that online registration will close on Saturday, 7th February. After that, you will be unable to register online to attend NFC this year. You can still sign up on location at the convention, but by that time the hotel may be full if you'd hoped to get a room as well.
After this date, registered attendees will also be unable to make changes to their registration.
You will still be able to set your room shares and upload a badge image for your registration, but the final day for doing so is Sunday, 15th February. After that, room shares can no longer be made and badge images can no longer be uploaded.
If you need any further advice, please contact our Registration team at: registration[at]nordicfuzzcon.org

Help us make a Pawpet Show!
Posted 11 years agoNFC is returning for its third installment, and yet... there is no pawpet show on the schedule! Blasphemy! We cannot have that... that lack of fuzzy entertainment. We must do something about it!
...and that is where you can step in!
Let me introduce you to an idea of mine and how we might get things rolling. I'll start with a short intro first and if you are interested you can continue reading for some details.
Pawpet shows originally tended to emulate or immitate the famous Muppet Show and some of them, especially in Europe, have become way over-the-top elaborate theater productions of storytelling while others sort of degradet into puppet lip-sync shows. Both are not what I'd like to see at a convention with the size and feeling of NFC! I'd like to go "back to the roots" and do a "variety show" type of program... with puppets... and Black Jack... and hookers... no, forget the hookers - I'd also like to keep the humor adult but family friendly ;)
What do I need to make this happen? Help! Help! and even more help! While I have done quite some puppetry work before (see my YouTube channel at http://www.youtube.com/atkelar for the list) - I just cannot and will not perform a live show on my own. To even try that would be burnout on my end and boredom on the audience end. I need a team! And that's when the "I" becomes a "We"!
If you are interested in helping out and would like to learn more, you can find more details over at the official NFC forum in this thread: http://forum.nordicfuzzcon.org/post.....no-Pawpet-Show
Please let me know ASAP if you are interested and how you would like to help out. Sorry for the short notice thing but I hoped to fill some spots from existing staff/volunteers but alas... it seems that I'm the only one bent on pawpet world domination. ;)

If you would like to run a panel (or help to make something larger happen) please log in on our webpage and go to your My Account page. There you will find a form to submit your ideas. We are asking for the following information to be included as far as possible:
• title (which could also be used in the conbook)
• description (short one, maybe 50-60 words)
• how long (in time) you feel the panel should be
• your guess of how many people you expect to come
• any extra info you think could be useful for us
If needed, we will come back to you and ask for more detailed information which may be needed for scheduling. If you have any questions please contact our team via email at events@nordicfuzzcon.org.

Drink naming competition
Posted 11 years agoGoods news, fellow socialites and dilettantes! Now you can help decide the name of a new mystery drink to be made available at our distinguished bar during NordicFuzzCon 2015.
To participate and submit your suggestions, you simply need to log in to your account on the webpage here. At the bottom you will find a section called Competitions. Each attendee can only submit up to two suggestions, so make sure you think long and hard before you submit.
We will also screen suggestions that we deem outrageous or silly. Sure, Tasty S*** In My P**** does have a certain je ne sais quoi, but it kind of loses its flair after the initial impact. Also, while calling a cocktail Beer would be amusing, things would simply get too confusing for everyone involved.
That said, do have fun with it, and it's definitely allowed to be a bit, ahem, naughty if the mood should strike.
The winner will be selected randomly and will be announced both on our forum and on our Twitter account on January 1st, 2015.

Do you want party suites for rent at NordicFuzzCon?
Posted 11 years agoWe are currently in loose talks with the hotel about the possibility of offering party suites, a not uncommon practice at furry conventions. These are larger private rooms that can be rented for a limited amount of time for those who believe their room parties (or other private events) will simply be too big and awesome to be contained by a normal-sized room.
But first we need to ask: is there actually any interest from any of our attendees in renting a party suite? If we were to offer this option, would you consider taking it?
Let us know! Post your thoughts on the idea in the comments below. If there is little to no interest, we may not pursue the idea further. If, on the other hand, there is a lot of interest, we will discuss it further internally and may choose to pursue the possibility.

Additional rooms now available at NFC 2015!
Posted 11 years agoHi everyone!
We have now reached an astounding number of over 300 registrations for our fuzzy gathering! It's an encouraging development, and it also means that we've run out of the rooms first allotted to us by the hotel.
For those that are still looking to join the convention: worry not!
Over the last few days we've been in contact with the hotel, and we have managed to reserve additional blocks for both room categories!
Those who were on the waiting list have had first pick at the new rooms, and all additional rooms are now open for new registrations.
Registration can be found here: http://www.nordicfuzzcon.org/Account/Register
Room availability can be found here: http://www.nordicfuzzcon.org/Regist.....n/Availability

NordicFuzzCon Is Looking for DJs!
Posted 11 years agoWant to help with the noise? If you fancy yourself as a DJ and would like to show us what you can do, then let us know! We're planning to have a disco or music in the bar each night of the con, plus during the dead dog party.
If you're up for it then drop us a message here: dj@nordicfuzzcon.org
Let us know what kind of music you're planning on playing and some hint as to your level of expertise/experience in DJing. If you can send us a link to a sample of your mixing then that'd be great too, as it's often easier to 'show and tell' than to try to explain in words.
If you have your own hardware then it'd be useful to let us know what you'll be bringing with you - there should be a 2-channel mixer on stage along with the usual hookups to the amps, and also a bunch of sound experts on hand to help get everything cabled up and sounding tip-top and dance worthy.
If you've any questions about any of this then feel free to drop a mail to the above address too and we'll answer as best I can, or we'll at least find someone who can answer. ;)

Second Guest of Honour for NordicFuzzCon 2015: EZwolf!
Posted 11 years agoWe are proud to present our second Guest of Honour, who is none other than EZwolf (EZwolf). Hailing all the way from Holland, he is a multi-faceted member of the furry fandom perhaps best known for the production of the first full length furry motion picture Bitter Lake back in 2011, though he has also made several other videos.
EZwolf has made his presence known among fursuiters and costumers with the creation of the EZCooldown vest which was released in 2013 at Eurofurence 19. The vest was welcomed with great acclaim and has improved the lives of many costumers and fursuiters the world over. EZwolf is also an accomplished actor and his stage presence is best remembered for his leading roles as Jordan Blake in the Eurofurence 16 production Jordan Blake and the Temple of the Four Winds, followed closely by his portrayal of Colonel Raden Drraer in Bitter Lake.
EZwolf has three suits: a black and white husky called North, a black wolf called Onyx which featured in Bitter Lake, and a realistic looking werewolf whose name is still a mystery to us. EZ will be causing all manner of mischief during the Guest of Honour events, convention and fursuiting events. If you see him around, come over and say hi!

Open for Conbook Submissions
Posted 11 years agoRejoice! We are now open for submissions for NordicFuzzCon's 2015 conbook, and we would like to welcome all artists out there to send us your fuzztastic contributions!
As you hopefully already know, our theme is Scandinavian Folklore: The Enchanted Forest. All submissions should fit within that theme, and you get bonus points if the convention's mascot – Mausie – is included as well (but it's not a must). If you need some help with getting your inspiration kickstarted, we recommend going to our website's theme section and looking through our Vette of the Month feature. We have also added some potentially helpful external online resources at the bottom of this post.
The deadline for submissions is January 12th, 2015. Artwork must be submitted to us by e-mail at conbook@nordicfuzzcon.org.
Submissions should be in CMYK colour, with a resolution of 300 DPI. For a full page piece, the size should be A4 (2500 px X 3500 px), and smaller images should be at least 1000 px X 1000 px. Artwork should be submitted as either uncompressed JPEG or PNG. For vector based art, we also accept PDF.
For more information about conbook submissions, please look at our conbook FAQ available here: https://nordicfuzzcon.org/Program/Conbook
Happy drawing!

Security is Recruiting
Posted 11 years agoWith the expected increase in attendance, there is a huge recruitment effort to be done to properly staff the Security team and cope with the duties during the next iteration of NFC.
So here is what we are looking for to join the team. Prior security experience is not mandatory, but would be an asset. Please note that if you are already within NFC crew/staff, you are of course also welcome to apply but please notify your department head.
1. Minimum requirements:
● Fluency in English to communicate within the team and with attendees.
● Ability and willingness to cover at least 6 to 8 fixed 1-hour slots during the convention.
● Willingness to remain available for emergencies and to attendees queries.
● At least one trusted advocate to vouch for one's suitability as a Security team member.
● No time-consuming tasks in other teams during the convention.
● Punctuality, reliability, ability to work independently within given rules.
● Generally calm, friendly and polite attitude.
● Responsible and respectable behaviour, even in light of a personal conflict of interests.
● Positive result of straw poll among the existing team.
2. Positive extras:
● Fluency in Swedish and/or other languages spoken by our attendees.
● Security license (e.g. UK SIA license).
● Firefighting training.
● (Para)medic training.
● All relevant experience gained either in security or as volunteer in other events (not necessarily furry) or on professional grounds.
Volunteers who join the team for the first time will be on probation for their first NFC. Upon successful evaluation after one active year at NFC, a trainee will become a full member of the team, otherwise he or she will leave the team. Of course all people within the Security team will be considered 'normal Security' by attendees and staff.
Please spread the word. If you have any questions or are interested in volunteering, please drop me a line at security[at]nordicfuzzcon.org
Thanks,
~ Clover.

"Furry Bus" for NFC 2015?
Posted 11 years agoWe are trying to gauge the interest in organizing some sort of "furry bus" in relation to NordicFuzzCon 2015. The idea is to have the bus travel from Stockholm Arlanda Airport directly to our hotel in Nynäshamn on both arrival days (early arrival and standard), then from the hotel and back to the airport on both departure days (standard and late departure).
The bus would be cheaper than taking the commuter train from the airport, as well as being overall faster, stopping right outside the hotel. There's also the added benefit of travelling together with people who won't look at you funny for wearing a collar and a detachable tail.
Here are the times we have been looking at so far:
Early arrival day: around 13:00 - 14:00 from the airport.
Opening day: 11:30 - 12:00 from the airport.
Closing day: 12 - 13 from the hotel.
Late departure day: 11:30 - 12:00 from the hotel.
It can also be possible to stop by the Stockholm Central Station to let on more fuzzy passengers (eg. furs who've traveled by train rather than plane).
What do you think? Does it sound like a good idea? Is it something you would be interested in joining? Do you think the stated bus times would match up with your arrival and departure? Or do you prefer taking the train and making your own way from the airport to the hotel? Any questions or suggestions?
Any feedback would be much appreciated! We would love to hear your thoughts.

Announcing Theme, date and location, NFC 2015!
Posted 11 years agoFirst off, a very big THANK YOU to everyone who came to NordicFuzzCon this year! It was a blast!! Having read over some of the feedback, it really seems that furs had a load of fun. :) And so many of you mentioned the great hotel staff. They were amazing, and they really helped make the con a great experience!
We did, however, soon find out that we have outgrown this hotel. While we will really miss the wonderful staff, we are super excited to announce the new location for next year, along with the theme and dates… *drumroll*
Presenting NordicFuzzCon 2015, “Scandinavian Folklore: The Enchanted Forest”!
“Enter a realm of myth and of magic, where danger may lurk behind every stone… To follow the music might prove tragic… Dare you to brave the mystery alone?”
From the 26th of February to the 1st of March 2015.
Hosted at Utsikten Meetings Hotel in Nynäshamn, near Stockholm, NordicFuzzCon will be able to welcome a much larger number of furries next year. We hope you will return, and we hope you will bring more of your furry friends along, and help us make next year’s con even bigger and even more awesome! :D
Again, we will notify everyone when the newly-themed web page is available, when registration opens, when Guest of Honours are presented, etc., on our official channels. Do not miss out! :) Follow us on Twitter and Facebook, and watch us on FurAffinity and Weasyl!
