RF is Here! (So is my schedule)
General | Posted 11 years agoI started working on the Rainfurrest staff in Operations, about six months before the very first RF was held in 2007. I've been to every RF that's been held, in some capacity or another. It's always an amazing con, a very personal and friendly one. Like hanging out around a campfire with friends old and new. This year, I'll be missing a certain raccoon, but I plan to have a great time anyway.
Here's what I'll be up to that's planned. All other times through Monday morning are wide open for fun and shenanigans. Hit me up! (Warning: Fun and shenanigans will also be had during the planned events!)

AJA Will be at RF 2014!
General | Posted 11 years agoGreat news. Although the AJA Kickstarter campaign didn't make its goal, RF has managed to make the AJA appearance possible after all! You can expect his great entertainment at the Variety Show, the head of the Fursuit Parade, panels and concerts.
For those of you who pledged to my Kickstarter campaign, we'd like to say thanks by honoring your Kickstarter perks anyway! Please get in touch with me so we can set it up for you this week.

Help Bring Alexander James Adams to RF2014
General | Posted 11 years agoTime is running short! My Kickstarter campaign to bring Alexander James Adams to Rainfurrest 2014 has only three days left. Many generous fans have contributed, but we're only just halfway to the goal for the project to be funded.
Alec has brought years of music and fun to RF and just needs this little boost to make it possible again this year. He was a big hit at AC (now in his backyard) so the entire fandom is catching on, but RF fans found him first. Please show your support and gratitude for his wonderful talent and help bring him home for a few days to play for us at RF!

AJA to RF 2014 - Please Help
General | Posted 11 years agoAt the very first Rainfurrest in 2007, Alexander James Adams offered his musical talent and warm personality on stage to help us get the convention started. He’s been with us every year since, but one. He helped make our con special and we’d like that to continue.
This year, we need additional funding for travel costs to make his appearance possible. So, in three short weeks, we’re going to fund his RF shows through fan support! Be a part of the fun and contribute to my Alexander James Adams appearance Kickstarter project at:
https://www.kickstarter.com/project.....infurrest-2014
I will designate any extra funds left after assisting AJA to assist other guests in returning to RF, such as Fox Amore. Any final funds remaining when we kick off Opening Ceremonies I will designate to the convention charity.
AJA has been our Fursuit Parade leader since the inception of RF, he's hosted countless panels, given concerts, and hosted our Variety Show. He's really our original minstrel and entertainer, so please help me bring him back for RF2014.

AC 2014 Coming Soon to a Pittsburgh Near You!
General | Posted 11 years agoIt seems like I was in Pittsburgh just a month or two ago, but it's been a year. In only two weeks, I'll have already been on the ground at AC2014 for three days leading up to Opening Ceremonies doing my part to make sure everything is ready for the thousands of furries who will attend.
I hope to see lots of friends there, old and new. I'll be pretty easy to spot, almost always in suit. Both kinds. Most often, I'll be the short wolf in a suit and tie running around almost as fast as Uncle Kage to keep programing on track. But in the evening, if work permits, I'll take out Skagit the Raccoon and Baffin the Arctic Fox to clown around and dance a bit. I never bite, so please say hi, no matter which suit I'm in.
I feel like AC, Pittsburgh edition, has really come in to its own in recent years. As the con has grown, it has become surprisingly more intimate. I think the vast canyons of the DLCC didn't feel quite as friendly with 3,000 furries filling them. But now, with over 5,000, the place really comes alive with that wonderful feeling only a fur con can create. And it's only two weeks away!

Fur and Lovin' in Las Vegas - ESG 2013 Review
General | Posted 12 years agoElliott’s Spring Gathering in Las Vegas wasn’t in the cards for me until the last minute. It turned out I had a few extra days of vacation I needed to burn before June, so I thought why not roll the dice? Elliott’s events are fun, and I hadn’t been to one in several years.
I left for Vegas feeling a little concerned about how successful a Las Vegas furry event could be. Sure, we’ve all seen CSI’s Fur and Loathing, but I wasn’t worried we’d misrepresent ourselves as badly as that program did. My fear was that Las Vegas, with its 124,000 hotel rooms, would simply swallow us up; ESG would just be another grain lost in the sands of the Mojave Desert.
The experience was anything but that. The weekend was based at the Hard Rock Hotel, a small and intimate property by Vegas standards, and one that loves throwing a wild party. TruTV’s Rehab is filmed there after all. They had the facilities to host an awesome furry event, and were sized such that no fur got lost in the shuffle. Even with a large casino, the place was more fursuit friendly than most hotels I’ve run conventions in.
It’s difficult to call Elliott’s a convention, even if there were upwards of 200 furs gathered there. Many of the safe bets you might think of at a con – conbook, dealer’s den, fursuit parade, art show, charity auction, etc. – are all tossed into the discard pile. Instead, there are a scant few expert panels during the day, leaving the opportunity for friends to socialize and be tourists. You could attend a writing panel with one of the writers from “Big Bang Theory”, or hang out with friends on the strip.
Where ESG Las Vegas doubles down is on social activities in the evening.
Each night kicked off with a private pool party at two different exotic swimming pools. The parties had top notch commercial sound equipment for the furry DJs to get the beat going, and Elliott’s catered complimentary appetizers - food enough to call dinner if you didn’t want to take advantage of a famous Vegas style buffet later. The pool parties were a great place to meet new friends.
Later in the evening, the party moved up the escalator to a private club, complete with a bar willing to serve raccoons without requiring them to decapitate themselves! Many furry DJs you know played sets, but each night we had a headliner.
Friday, Elliott’s had Phil Hartnoll of Orbital ( http://orbitalofficial.com/ ) flown in from London to spin. I was glad I brought my raccoon, Skagit, to dance. Phil had the whole place wired right from the start of his set. Knowing his crowd, he finished with the famous Orbital version of Dr. Who! http://digitaljournal.com/article/293952
One of my favorite stories of that night came from a fur who was chatting with some mundanes outside the club next to the “private event, members only” sign. The mundanes commented to him “Wow, that DJ seems to be hitting the Orbital pretty hard.” The fur flatly replied, “Yeah. That’s because it is Orbital.” The poor mundanes wandered back to the gambling tables shaking their heads in disbelief.
But Hartnoll didn’t set the distance record. Saturday night Elliott’s had EDM DJ legend Graham Gold (http://www.residentadvisor.net/dj/grahamgold/biography) come in all the way from the island of Koh Phangan in Thailand. Earlier in the weekend, Graham put on an enthralling panel over two hours in length discussing back and forth with a dozen or so lucky furs what it was like to be a top London DJ, to have discovered talents like Tiesto, and how to improve their own sets as DJs. Now he was unleashed to strut his stuff.
He blew away the floor with his own set Saturday night. You could feel him reading the crowd, figuring out what worked for furs, and by the end the room was jumping. It was magic to hear and dance to, the whole con was all-in. I only wish there had been more of us there; the fandom deserves it and so did Graham.
For our final day, Elliott’s staff organized a van caravan for fursuiters out to the famous “Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas” sign for a photo op (Does anyone have a link to the photo?), and then Elliott’s treated the entire convention to an all you can eat lunch at the Brazilian grill, transportation included.
Elliott’s turned out to be a sure bet. The price of the grill alone was worth the $40 registration fee for the entire weekend. I met some new friends, and got to know some old ones better. And those are things I enjoy most at a furry event. I need to drag a lot more friends to the desert the next time King Elliott turns up to party there.

Rainfurrest Thanks
General | Posted 13 years agoI wanted to say thanks to all the performers in this year's Rainfurrest Variety Show and Opening Ceremonies. Orion, my co-host, made a great debut filling in for Alexander James Adams. The hard work Drewfus fox put into our brand new RF musical track really shined through with all the music talent we had this year too. I really appreciated the support of Shep and Unition for gathering some characters for the Opening, even if it didn't go off technically as we'd hoped.
Big thanks to the technical team with phenomenal theater lighting design by Terkwolf and auido support from Ciel, who flew from England just to help us. Their long hours started on Wednesday morning and continued through Monday afternoon - they never saw the con. Thanks for the great stage managment from Keyy and Shinn to make the whole thing flow.
A big thanks to Gene, for letting me roast him at the GoH dinner. It was great fun. And Gene finally got his revenge leading the birthday song being sung to Roger Fox instead of the other way around.
Major props to Tigon and all his DJs for acheiving the impossible - a dance that didn't suck! Instead, they were all incredible! I've never heard such rave reviews of con dances anywhere before. (See what I did there?)
Congrats to Phin, who finally achieved his goal of a really good afterparty - and worked very, very hard the whole night to make it happen for everyone else to have a last bit of furry fun.
No one outside the staff notices this kind of work, but there was this guy running around all weekend like a chicken with three heads cut off named Cerb. He patched every hole in the dike and kept things running despite all that fate pitched his way. Like Terk, I don't think he ever slept and he missed the whole con working it.
There are many others who met with success for their parts; Kitsy, Electrokeet, Stripey, Balto, our GoH's, and all the fans who volunteered their help at the con. You all deserve the gratitude of the entire convention.
When I'm finally rested, I might do a con report, but first I just really wanted to say thanks to everyone I saw who made RF2012 a great con!

General | Posted 14 years agoI'm working on some ... ideas. *rubs paws together*
There's a lot of Warehouse Thirteen fans out there. I'd like to know what you like best about the show. Do you like the characters? The stories? The concept? The look? The artifacts? The humor?
Comment here or e-mail your thoughts. Maybe share your favorite moment from the show, or your favorite episode and why. If you are a furry and a fan of W13, speak up. I can't tell you why, it's a secret, but this is your chance to do something worthy!

Rainfurrest 2012 Begins Today
General | Posted 14 years agoWell, sure, Rainfurrest 2012 is still 11 months away, but today is my first organizational meeting for the event. This is a high level meeting where we'll focus on structure, goals, and values; where we want to go, and how we're gonna get there.
I wasn't deeply involved in the process and planning for Rainfurrest 2011, except for the Variety Show and Opening Ceremonies show. My year of recouperating after being Chair in back to back years is done, I'm coming back to the team to keep RF moving ever forward as one of the best cons furry has to offer.

North Puppy at AC
General | Posted 14 years agoI'm planning to bring Skagit the Coon to AC, plus something new. The question is, should I leave North Puppy at home this time? He's been to AC before and is well loved, but I'm also trying to preserve him and space is an issue.
It's a tough choice. I'd kinda miss him if he weren't there.

Need Charcter Turnaround Fast
General | Posted 14 years agoAre there any artists out there who would like to do a character turn-around, or at least a full body sketch to help me design a fursuit? The catch is I need it done fast, about 48-72 hours.
