sorry i've been so scarce lately guys, also sorry i haven't uploaded a lot. this week has been kind of a mental chemical rollar coaster and i've no idea why. i was way, way down and then way, way up. now i'm kind of evening out. it happens sometimes, no worries :B i just didn't wanna crazy all over FA so i kind of stepped out for the week.

in fun news, i finally got a chance to start playing pokepark 2! i really liked the first pokepark (it was just simple mindless fun) and this one seems much the same. my only complaint is there's a distinct lack of minigames (pokepark 1 was bascily nothing BUT minigames) and you can't play as your pokemon buddies in the minigames (which was another majorly fun factor about the first one) but there are some marked improvements and new things i like about pokepark 2. i'm still pretty early in the game so i'm not ready to pass my overall judgement just yet.

also seeking: a globe of mars, about 1' in diameter. i don't want to spend 100$ on one and that seems to be the going rate. if anyone can help me find a cheaper globe of mars (not plush) i'd be really grateful.

so we got hit with an unexpected bill, and so i'm going to have to try like hell this month to make both the bills and the mortgage.

essentially what i'm looking to raise is in the neighborhood of 650$ by the 30th. that's a lot. i don't expect all that to come from commissions but a chunk of it would be nice. :x anyway as a result, i'm opening some commissions for the following stuff.

these are full-colour cards featureing your character (possibly two characters, depending) for 10$. i send them to you in a nice little card sleeve that keeps them fresh and fancy for many years to come. they look like this, this, this etc.

if your character is huge or has hulking wings or something, you may wind up without the entire body on the card just because of the limited drawing space. however, you can pick a mood/location/whatever for it. and you do get the finished copy when i'm done.

Transformation Sequences
essentially this is a three-step image where your character will go from themselves to *insert other form here* - though long time watchers may know i'm not exactly comfortable with drawing sex, a few boobs here and there doesn't intimidate me in this case. i've never drawn transformation sequences before, and so i'm charging 30$ per sequence.

what i'd REALLY like you to do, though, is the following.

send the developers an e-mail pointing out that they're using these webcomics WITHOUT permission of the creators and profiting off of them again WITHOUT our permission. you can use my comic in the 'problem' field if you want to. i have no shame letting them know the grief is coming from my readerbase.

okay so finally i just accepted the fact that the markers i ordered were NEVER COMING. it's been a month. so i requested a refund.

for those just joining this channel, pendeavours is one of the few north american sellers of the brand of pens i use. previously i purchased them directly from the japanese website but thought maybe it would save me some money to change over. long story short: it does not save money and their service sucks.

when the order first went missing i did what normal people do and e-mailed them.
no response.
so i used their in-site ticket option to ask what was going on
no response.
i sent another ticket a few days later.
still no response.
i PHONED them and they waffled around, sounded confused, and claimed the package was sent so lol nothing we can do lol?? keep waiting.

so i waited another week, and still nothing. time to request a refund.
i e-mailed requesting a refund. no response.
i sent a ticket requesting a refund. no response! (see a pattern emerging?)
i PHONED to request a refund...

and the person i got COULD NOT FIGURE OUT HOW TO REFUND MY MONEY. he had to wait for his manager to come back. i requested the manager call me upon his return, and left my phone number.

a few hours later, i get an e-mail from (presumably) the manager saying the refund had gone through and to contact them "when" the markers show up to arrange return shipping.

A- they're never going to show up i think we've established this
B- wow way to actively give The Worst customer service of any art site i've ever, ever seen.

now i understand why they have no twitter, and no forums, and rapidly delete any user posts to their facebook.

anyway, i went back and ordered my copics from some random site that ships free like usual and my deleters from japan, like usual. and guess what. it was cheaper :| so do no use pendeavours.

speaking of nerds only you can get a friday the 13th four-movie widescreen DVD box set for 10bux in the store right now. it has the first, second and third movies plus the final chapter (which i don't think is actually part 4? my memories of the timeline get vague after part 3d.).

for the most part it's kinda a generic unexciting box set that just has some new commentary and stuff EXCEPT the third movie (part THREE DEE) actually has the 3d footage still on it. and the box set comes with two sets of 3d glasses so you can watch it. i'm not talking new wave 3d i'm talking the old red & blue stuff.

really it looks EXACTLY THE SAME as modern 3d with the only difference being all the colour is slightly off. this technology has not evolved very far. it gives you the same huge amount of eye strain and mega headache. i mean man here i am like nearly 10 hours later and my eyes STILL feel like someone just stood there punching me in the retna for two hours

it's still neat though! this is the first time since part 3d left theatres that people have been able to watch it in 3d. i've always loved part 3d cause it was utterly bonkers outta nowhere pointless fun :o and now it's even more so because OH MAN ITS COMING RIGHT AT ME WHOAAAAAA *reaches for the screen*

it's totally worth spending 10bux on, though, no joke. if you like friday the 13th or just wanted a good place to jump into the francise you can't do much better.

this entry is primarily relevent to people who are
1- from north america
2- use copics/deleter markers

there's recently been a movement by deleter to distribute markers in north america. in major cities they're easy to get, but as far as ordering them online if you're on the east coast you're stuck with pendeavours.com

you could also just order the directly from japan. i for one? will keep ordering fro japan and here's the breakdown why.

first off, you can't use paypal with pendeavours. for whatever reason. and you can with deleter. so yeah right there, from the get-go, you have buyer protection.

pendeavours.com charges more *per pen* by about $1.70. so deleter beats pendeavours on price. but what about shipping, you say?

both sites use flat shipping. shipping from japan is typically 10$. shipping from pendeavours in canada is 6$. it seems like pendeavours wins this one BUT think about it. if you're ordering THREE PENS that 'savings' is immediately negated and it's cheaper to order from japan.

japan the markers often arrive within 10 days.
pendeavours claims they will arrive within 5 days (mine have not, it's been about two and a half weeks now)

i've attempted to contact pendeavours over this, and i've recieved no response. the one time (ONE) deleter japan messed up my order, they responded the same day and not only replaced the messed up item but included a few other freebies as a token of good will.

with every deleter order you kind of get a grab-bag of stuff, as well. i've got prototypes of new deleter marker products, screentones (there's ALWAYS screentones with your order) and even some free inking pens from them.

the moral of this story is it's still cheaper to order direct from the source, around the world, than to trust some ditzes up in canada who can't even respond to customer support e-mail in a timely fashion.

i ordered some replacement markers (deleters and copics) about two weeks ago from them, and they still haven't arrived.

at first i thought that the president's day long weekend was the problem, but i'm fairly sure now that's not the issue. they don't give you any tracking on your order, and so far haven't responded to my e-mails asking what the deal is.

has anyone else used them?

in other news, family came up this past weekend. it wasn't too bad, really. we looked at photos from the wedding reception and stuff. alf was sick with some bug from work but he soldiered on. spent sunday tending the sick, and monday we went and filed taxes. i know, super exciting.

anyway, this week is going to be mostly me getting back on track. i'm out of paper in my small sketchbook, so i have to stop 5$ art for a little while til i can get a new one. i guess this means mostly big-ish art for a while. those who ordered 5$ art will still get it, it's just not in the right sketchbook. also i have to hold off drawing any characters with a lot of brown on them, because i'm still waiting on my brown markers to get here. they were shipped, they're just ... not here yet.

how to get 5$ art
there are some simple rules you have to follow to get art for 5$!

1- make sure your character design is not TOO complex. wings and stripes are all fine. hyper-detailed clothing and 1283123 piercings are probably not. when in doubt, solid colour clothing in the form of pants, shorts, cargo pants, jackets etc is for the best. torn cuffs and stuff are fine, but no like mandolorian combat armor. look at the pictures above. if your character is more complicated than those, you may find yourself being asked to pay a little more. in general you don't get to pick the pose. if you DO want to pick the pose, send me a little extra $ and i'll make it happen.

2- send me a note with your character's references. references can be either pictures someone else (or you) did of your character, or text describing what they look like. you can request a pose, but don't be disappointed if i draw them posed differently. after all, this is 5$ art. if you DESPERATELY want to see them in a certain pose, throw a few extra dollars my way with your payment and i'll make it happen for sure.

3- send me payment. i will not draw 5$ art until i get paid! i prefer paypal (mine is CIAL at DEATHSTICKS dot ORG) but if you need to send payment via the postal service, that is okay. we can discuss the details via note. it just means you'll be waiting longer for your arts is all.

4-settle in and wait for your art to be uploaded next week. 5$ art usually gets completed on monday, but may take til friday depending on real life stuff. it's a pretty fast turn around due to the fact that characters must be simple.

okay so  jake-autumn and i have been kicking around an idea of doing a large group pic.

the basis is that his nikitak demi-god, Gloucester, will be throwing a hedonistic god-party. it will be semi greco-roman themed, a lot of people in togas with chalices and whatnot, lolling around him in various stages of intoxication and enjoyment.

obviously this would be a big picture with a lot of dudes (and dames), so the concept we came up with was that we'd allow others to commission to have their characters join the party. basicly it will help  jake-autumn split the cost, and also let others get their characters in on this.

i think really about eight people would be ideal for this picture.

so, do you want to be joining gloucester in his drunken god-party? here's the deal.

how to get in the picture
- you must send me a note with your character reference BEFORE you pay. this is because i need to make sure that  jake-autumn is okay with your character being in the picture.
- after jake approves you, you need to pay up front. 8$ ensures your character is in the picture. for 10$ you can request what they're doing (like drinking or passed out or scowling in disapproval or whatever). my paypal is cial AT deathsticks DOT org

holy cow man, lately? my fingers on my right hand have been in some serious pain.

it's mostly around the tips, and around the joints nearest the tips. but they swell, they look red, and they hurt a hella lot when i put pressure on them (like say, typing or drawing).

i've been taking ibuprofen cause i suspect it's arthritis. it gets worse the colder it is. i don't really think the ibu is DOING anything, though. they still hurt. :B

i guess y'know now i'm 30 with a family history of hand arthritis and i draw all day i shoulda expected this at some point, but it's still a pain to suddenly have arthritis symptoms in my dominant hand.

ah well.

as an aside, i've been kicking around the idea of opening up commissions for character study sheets kind of like this, but i'm not sure if there's A) any interest or B) what to charge. the current winning thought is that price would fluctuate based on the complexity of the character.

the rules for 5$ arts are:
keep it simple. 5$ art is simple, and flat-colour. no hyperdetail. no crazy poses.
no ultra detailed items or backgrounds. just your dude, maybe holdin' a thing, on a flat colour bg. as par normal no crazy porn.
ONE character per 5$.

the rules for ATCs are:
depending on the image you have in mind, your character may be drawn full-body or partial-bodied. it depends on how much is going on in the picture.
colouring is more detailed than 5$ art.
the ATCs are shipped to you free, in clear hard plastic card holders. if you don't wants yours shipped, that's okay too. again, nothing too porny. your character can be detailed, you can pick poses or items and stuff, and request a BG. i MIGHT be able to squeeze a second character into the card, but it's unlikely. talk to me about it first.

yesterday was nice! a very mellow 30th.

the day started out busting open sokki's gift to me and discovering 20$ worth of starbucks coffee money and one of those cool draw-your-own-cup cups! i have to decide what i want to do with it, other than fill it with coffee forever.

me & alf then went out to grab breakfast at dunkin d and run some errands. my dad, sorta-stepmom and sorta-stepsister called to sing happy bday while were were waiting for coffee at dunkin. for those just joining this program already in progress, my sorta-stepsister is 19 and has downs syndrome. and wow did she sing. it was uh.
well.
it was heartfelt, is what it was. so i told her it was beautiful :>c

then we just did boring stuff like get food. we swung by a generic art store (a michaels i think) and i picked up some new bristol paper, micron pens and a much needed kneaded eraser. my b-day gift to myself i guess, unless you count the novelization of ET i bought on amazon the night before for 5$.

then we just kinda came home and i did the comic and drew for myself while alf played silent hill 2. we had gyouza for dinner and coffee + brownies for dessert. good stuff.

oh :O! and i found a weird kiddie bath toy by crayola that i had to buy for my friend zar. zar collects the pokemon parasect and although this thing is supposed to be a crab (i guess) it really, REALLY looks like a parasect. you can kinda see it up top here.

but yeah, that was my birthday! not to add a downnote to this or anything but i honestly, for real, never thought i'd live this long. i dunno why! i just always figured i'd be dead before i was 28, let alone 30. so it's like a wide open horizon of possibilities for me from here :O amazing how missing your perceived appointed time of death gives you a lasting optomistic outlook.
