Posted 14 years agonot much to say, just moving the old journal off the main page.
it's been 5 days, which is more than the usual patchtogether response turnaround time. so i submitted a support ticket asking if the nikitak design had even gone through (i look under my designs and nothing is there, so it might have bugged out?) but who knows when/if they'll respond.
i'm also working on something kind of semi-secret. all i can say is that you might want to check out graphic.ly and maybe set up an account of some kind for the future. just in case you find yourself needing one. y'know. just in case.
home buying process is still in the Motherfuckin Paperwork phase. later this week a contractor licensed by this state has to go out to the house and come up with an official estimate of the work that needs to be done. this is required for when we submit our loan information. see, we're going for a loan that will actually allow us extra money in order to fix things (like refinishing the floors, putting new water pipes in, etc) because it'd be foolish to buy a house and you know. not fix it up. that said, the mortgage broker has been obnoxiously non-communicative unless he wants something. any time i write or call with a question he decides just to not respond. :| i'll be glad when we're done dealing with this guy for good.
still looking for a new job, but my old one will start again at the end of this month. i'm not exactly thrilled about it, but i'll hold off on why until later i guess. now it's time to brew some coffee.
some pumpkin spice flavoured coffee.

nikitak plush process step 1- COMPLETE!
Posted 14 years agowell i just submitted the nikitak plush to patch together. i'm not sure when it'll appear on their website (five days, they said...?) but when it does, i'll make posts/uploads about it.
that's when i'll actually need help. i'll need people to VOTE for the plush in order for it to be made. i'll need not only you guys reading this to vote but heck, if you can get your friends and watchers to vote too...that'd be lovely :o i've never had one of my creatures made professionally into a plush before, all plush nikitaks in the past have been either fan creations or ragdoll-style nikitaks by me. so the idea of this is just really kind of exciting.
but it's also kind of anxiety-stirring, i guess? i mean experience has lead me to believe most everyone loves a nikitak, but what if that's not true? AAAAAA i guess we'll find out in a few days.
if the plush gets enough votes, it gets made. so. yeah. votes D:

oh hello dog drama
Posted 14 years agomy mother's 11 year old boxer has a penchant for being a drama queen. he never responds well to certain situations (like uniformed men entering the house, or plumbers) and will usually act out afterwards from sheer spite.
a situation he hates hates hates is when my mother and stepfather go away on vacation. they do this every year to some exotic over-seas destination (in spite of claims they're poor...) and every year the dog gets horribly depressed in response OR attempts to die. a few of his near-death experiences involve:
-getting torn apart by the family pitbull (the pit is a rescue from dog fights and while he loves the boxer, my mother thought putting them in the same kennel run would be a good idea. the enviroment was traumatizing and the pitbull relapsed. vet techs found him licking the boxer's barely-living body when they came in the next morning)
-having his stomach flip
-getting a rather intense anal gland infection (BLOODY PUSSFARTS)
we (my sister and i) told them not to go on vacation again this year because the dog is really old and probably wouldn't survive their leaving. boxers usually only live to about 10, and he's 11 with numerous near-death experiences under his belt and a record of medical emergencies during summer. but they left anyway :|
so of course, he had a medical emergency. during heatwave '11, he started having violent seizures. my sister carried him out of the house and took him to the emergency vet clinic where they administered enormous doses of valium to stop the seizures. he wasn't running a temp, so it wasn't heat stroke. they suspected either a brain tumor or stroke, but since no MRI had been authorized by the owners (who are in morocco and left no contact information) my sister, stepbrother and i were left to handle the situation.
we debated putting him down, but also debated his chances of recovery. we advised they place him under observation and lower the dosage of valium. at the first sign of backsliding or seizure, he would be put down. but if his condition improved and he didn't have any further seizures, keep lowering the valium until he's back on track.
well, he hasn't seized again. my sister and stepbrother went to see him (i can't, i'm several states away) and said he clearly recognized them, although he's still in pretty sore shape. he'll probably be there for several more days until he comes out from under the valium entirely, and by then my mother and stepfather will be home and can decide if they want an MRI or not.
i thought it out long and hard...the dog is old, and really it is nearly his time. but he's not our dog. it'd be wrong to make the call to put him to sleep, especially if he's still clearly got the will to live. so yeah. bowser's still kicking. he'll probably live to wag his stubby tail at our post-wedding-party, but i doubt he'll live much past it.
beast.
(here's a pic of the boxer when he came and staye with us for a bit)

anybody know where to obtain jolt cola?
Posted 14 years agoi've been having a craving for it, and i haven't seen it in a store since like 2002 at least. it kinda faded to obscurity after the advent of energy drinks/liquid legal meth but i don't really like feeling like i'm about to launch into orbit so
yeah
for nostaliga's sake, anyone seen it around? i'll pay shipping for a few of them for the sake of nostalgic tastebuds.

Posted 14 years agothe since last thursday things have been BONKERS over here. i haven't had a chance to sit down and work on the comic, much less anything else.
so we made the inspection on the house and, in spite of some things needing our attention, have decided to buy it. the bummer is someone broke in and, again, stole all the copper piping from the basement. this isn't the first time we've seen this in a house we looked at, and it's less indicitive of the neighborhood and more indicitive of the times. copper sells pretty high right now, and scrappers don't ask many questions on where it came from. so it needs the plumbing prettymuch redone entirely.
also the upstairs is going to need renovation and re-walling, plus work on the barn and eventually new wiring. chimney needs something which my dad calls a cricket but i've heard called other things that will lead water away from it so it doesn't wick down the chimney and cause the house water damage.
IN ADDITION we filed the paperwork for marriage, and should be able to pick it up today.
my dad's up from alabama visiting/camping as well, with my stepmother and step sister. my step sister is only oh, marginally EXHAUSTING. she's 18 and has down's syndrome and likes to copy everything i do which means i'm kind of a living source of entertainment around her. which can be fun, but really tiring.
so yeah a lot going on. house purchasing, marriage paperwork, family visiting. not a lot of time for drawing. i've been tending to come home, shower off the bug spray and drop into a dead sleep.
on the upside i did finish "do androids dream of electric sheep?" and "invasion of the body snatchers" in the last three days. i've moved on to "the zombie survival guide" now. books are delicious.

so we put in a bid on the house last night
Posted 14 years agowe decided not to lowball it much on the offer, since someone else was putting in a bid on the same property and the bank which owns it had made a counter-offer they hadn't responded to. we also put a real small time window on the bid, expires on the 15th (two days)
the logic/hope is that the bank will go 'oh look someone willing to pay what we're asking and they want a response quickly SOLD'
home buying is a lot more stressful than the nonsense related to getting married. i guess it's cause i know one will work. but the other...i mean a house can have ghosts and damages and problems that don't rear their head until you're already inside.

laminator's here! new markers en route...
Posted 14 years agoso the laminator has arrived, yaaaay. this means now the stickers i make will be tougher. i guess it also means i can make con badges, but i've never done those before and don't really know when cons are coming up.
for some reason i didn't sleep last night. certainly wasn't a choice.
i had to re-order a whole slew of markers, since the majority of my greys and several of my major shading colours were dry. as many people know, alcohol based markers aren't cheap...the end result of the order was 124$ spent. owch!
fortunately thanks to commissions so far, i've got that halfway paid off. if i can drum up the other 50% of the total cost, i'll be in the clear.
next big saving project is a new (and much better) scanner. the one i have is okay, but it's really only meant to be a document scanner and not a photo scanner. this means its software and hardware aren't really wired to picking up ALL the colours, just SOME of the colours. i'd like a scanner that, y'know. scanned all the colours. :B
i'm also looking into re-homing the crackhead kittens. if you live in western mass and might be interested in them, drop me a note.

laminator ordered! also cheap commishes, and cons?
Posted 14 years agowoke up late today ("late" being a bit after 8:30) and was able to order the laminator! thanks to everyone who bought commisions, i've been wanting a laminator to upscale the quality of shop items for YEAAAAAAARS!
i am still open for commishes, and will be all summer. 5$ will get you a flat-coloured character bust, can't really go wrong there. but i'll also draw comics on commission, and bigger projects too. please pass the word on, because i ideally would like to make enough to put an add back on FA for a while as well as run some ads on project wonderful.
i also need to replenish my marker stock soon, which will be at least 30 bucks, if i know shipping and handling from japan.
so yeah please consider buying arts from me? :O i will be very grateful. also your arts will look awesome.
also, i'm kind of on the fence about attending a con this summer. there's a few mumblings in the circle of friends i have that someone might give otakon a shot. but frankly, otakon was pretty crappy the last time i recall going. the artist's alley was a disorganized hassle, hotels were dirty and far from the con and someone tried to stab me with a toy sword for having shrek antennea on (because antennea make you a furry) so i dunno.
is anyone else thinking about otakon? or any other con this summer? keep in mind i've never been to a furry con and am a little scared to go, so if you're advising a furcon it needs to be a reeeeeally low-key one.

my crackhead neighbor had a cat, e-ai e-ai oh.
Posted 14 years agolady at the front of the building is a crackhead. like, certifiable. towels hung over her windows, kids taken away, drug busts, steals our mail...the full gamut of jerkitude.
so you can imagine our joy when we found she'd acquired a kitten she wasn't taking care of. it'd jump out the window and get stuck outside in front of the busy road, and she wouldn't care. she just left windows open willy nilly. she didn't feed it or spay it or get it kitten meds. that instead fell on our downstairs neighbors for some reason. they've fed it, they've put a flea collar on it, they've kept it safe while it grew up a little.
only yesterday, we discovered she'd had kittens. now there's bumbling fuzzball kittens all rolling around in the road. and crackhead doesn't care. so we gathered the two we saw up, put them in a carrier, and long story short the landlord got involved and instructed us to keep the kittens in the hallway common space until the shelter was ready to take them. we fed the kittens, set up a litterbox and all that.
come 11pm last night, who should go banging on doors but the mail stealing crackhead. she's demanding her cats back, and threatening to call the cops. which i'd like to know how she intended to do, since she has NO PHONE.
everyone denied involvement with the kittens. she hadn't seen us take them (too busy smoking crack inside) and she had only the hearsay of her equally scummy upstairs neighbor to point us to our doors.
landlord's sending her a lease violation notice. she's not supposed to have cats. in said notice will be an ultimatim of take the fucking cats to the shelter or get the fuck out.
i am sure we have not seen the end of the Crackhead's Kittens Saga.

so we be buyin' a house...
Posted 14 years agoor rather we will be. we've been preapproved for the loan on the house we want...now it's a matter of getting an offer accepted and getting an inspector out there. i really hope the place passes inspection.
so yeah, it's shaping up to be an interesting summer. i'll really be glad to get out of here. where we live now is basicly a hovel we've patched up...run by a slumlord and neighbored by dipshits. the new place is a house built in 1850 with a little over an acre of land and out in the boonies with ponds and trees.
exactly what we want.

fact: pimping me out is good for my comic!
Posted 14 years agoit's true!
i get most of my referal hits (and loyal readers) from people telling their friends "HEY THIS IS A COOL COMIC CHECK IT OUT" in their blogs, journals and on their sites.
if you want to make me v. happy PIMP ME OUT THIS WEEK 8D i'm planning to devote this whole summer to strictly comic-related stuff (well, and hopefully buying a house/getting married) and i'd like to kick it off with a few new interested readers
readers are good for the comic because of a few things too :o
-shop sales. these don't happen often, but when they do, those few extra bux help a lot to restock comic supplies!
-ad revenue. the more readers, the more hits the ads get, the higher bids on ads go. this in turn lets ME advertise through PW without having to spend my paltry paycheck...
-tip jar tips! i don't get much or many, but it's enough to pay for coffee a few times a week, and coffee keeps me running...almost exclusively.
-i just plain like it :B so sue me, i enjoy having new readers and getting to know them and getting to hear their take on the comic and their suggestions and input.
more readers leads to a self-sustaining comic! which is good when you're poor.
so yeah pimp out my comic please :o not like you have to or anything but i would be grateful!
and with that, i'm back to inking the last panel on this week's page. this panel is also known as "mycheapalooza"

and with that, i'm back to inking the last panel on this week's page. this panel is also known as "mycheapalooza"
a bad habit
Posted 14 years agoi really need to break this bad habit i have
of eating
i mean i'm sinking so much money into it, money i could be spending on art supplies or books or other healthier things
it slows me down, takes away my free time, kills my motivation and sometimes just straight up knocks me out.
it is lame
i mean i planned to block out some comic pages this evening but then i ate some pizza and suddenly all i want to do is go to bed at a reasonable hour
i need to just start skipping the whole eating thing and jumping straight to the whole coffee thing yeah

got a few days left free... 5$ arts
Posted 14 years agoso i got a couple days left free from work, and i'm starting to get a little bored being cooped up all day. anyone want a 5$ arts?
they'll mostly be bust shots but you might get lucky and get a full body. all of them will be coloured, though.
if you're interested, comment here with references. i'm gonna try to do everyone, but i'll tell you individually when i'm ready for payment so that you don't risk gettin ripped off :B
EDIT
that's prolly enough, guys XD; i'll try to get back to noting people ASAP, it might take a bit cause my family is coming up to visit.

seeking handwriting-to-font program
Posted 14 years agoanyone know of a program to convert your handwriting to a font file? i'd like to keep the "flavour" of my incoherant scribblings in my comic instead of just using Tahoma, but i have no idea how to do it.
the programs i get via google are some vector gibberish, i don't grok it.

house hunting
Posted 14 years agoi did not know it would be as stressful as it evidently is.
it's SUPER stressful, holy shit. just looking. it's like this emotional rollar coaster constantly when you go "oh that house looks great/in our range" and then realize "oh shit someone else got it" or "oh shit it has huge repair needs" or "oh shit it's miles away from town" or just "oh shit, What If?"
realators are fuckin jerks too, man. they redirect you through like 40 mailboxes without ever speaking to you in person sometimes. i kinda lost it and slammed my phone down after such an experience last night. good thing i have an android, because if it were an iphone i'm SURE it would have broken instantly.
even qualifying for the Good Neighbor Next Door program doesn't make it less stressful. it makes it MORE stressful! it's like a timer is ticking on the few good homes which are in the program, and then you wake up one morning and PIFF one of them is gone! is it bought? is it just not listed anymore? what the hell is going on?! AUUUUUUGH

Posted 14 years agoanyone got one for trade? i don't care what level it is.
i'm trying to breed heal bell onto an audino. a miltank or chimecho would also be acceptable.
i have almost all of the unova pokedex completed, i'd be willing to breed/trade anything non-legendary for one

we got the court date for the crazy screaming guy
Posted 14 years agoapril 11th. we'll be there with bells on.
shortly after that, we saw a stupid neighbor's lab running free through the neighborhood. animal control gets called on these people constantly, they don't care. they've just memorized the dog catcher's work schedule and let their animal out unattended when he's off duty.
it's not only shat all over the neighborhood but it tears up trash and attacks other dogs. including ours. so. after the screaming guy, seeing the black lab running free just kinda tore it for us a little.
we're looking into homes. to buy, not rent. hey, the market's right.
