Marvel: Age of Ultron
When: Sunday, May 3 @ 2:00 PM
Where: Alamo Drafthouse, 20575 E Hampton Plz Exchange St, Ashburn, VA, US
Link: http://www.meetup.com/NOVAfurs/events/222160082/
Price: $10 per seat + booking fee (~$2)
Some of us will be coming back to the Alamo Drafthouse to watch the next installment of the Avengers series: Age of Ultron. One of the benefits of the Drafthouse is you get to reserve your seat for a particular showing so you don't have to worry about getting to the theater super early.
The showing is at 2:30pm because the showings for Friday and Saturday are nearly full and we wanted to provide an opportunity for furries to see the movie together. The meet is scheduled at 2:00pm because the theater wants people to show up a half hour early to take their seats and get settled.
Nothing official is currently scheduled for dinner beforehand but we welcome suggestions. You may also purchase food inside the theater during the movie.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
See you there!
Please no fursuiting at this event, but you are welcome to wear ears/tails and such as long as it does not disturb other patrons from enjoying the movie[/b

Looking onward to 2015
Posted 11 years agoGreetings NOVA furs!
In the coming week or so we will be posting a massive update across our multiple platforms to make sure everyone is aware of upcoming events. The mods will be having a meeting to discuss the following:
- Events for 2015
- Possibly adding a 5th mod for the group
- Refining the platforms we currently use (FA, Meetup, Twitter, Facebook, G+, Weasyl)
- Furthemore (Furry convention in Tysons Corner in late May, their page can be found HERE)
With that being said, we would like to hear from all of you: What sort of events would you like to see for 2015?
Let us know so that when we have our meeting we can discuss about each suggestion and see what needs to be done going forward.
Remember to check out our meetup page, especially since we have our first 2015 event coming up and if you have any questions don't hesitate to send a note to the NOVA furs page or contact one of our moderators.
We wish everyone a great 2015!Happy Holidays from the NOVA Furs!
Posted 11 years agoWe want to wish everyone a Happy Holidays!
May your days be merry and bright!December 13th - 4:00pm - Bowling in Centerville
Posted 11 years agoWhen: Saturday, 13 December
Address: 13814 Lee Hwy, Centreville, VA 20120
Cost: $22.19 per person for 2 hours and this includes rental shoes.
Meetup Page: http://www.meetup.com/NOVAfurs/events/218387942/
This will be our second official furbowl at this location and our first event was a rousing success. They have a menu with a nice variety of food there or some members like to wait until after the event to go as a group out to eat. This is a good chance to interact with other NOVA furs while working on your bowling game.
Like last time fursuits are allowed at the event. We are unsure about a headless lounge but for now assume you can change in the restrooms or in your car outside of the center if necessary. As always please be courteous to the other patrons of the bowling alley.
An important note: Please be aware of your items as we had someone leave behind their suit last time.
While you are having fun, if there is a certain type of event you would like to suggest you can ask one of our mods directly at the event, post below or send us a note or if you have a question about the meet.
We look forward to seeing you all there!

Notes and policies about the NOVA furs group
Posted 11 years agoJust some tidbits to help clarify a few things we hope to accomplish with the group:
Who are we? - We are a group of individuals who would like to see social gatherings occur across Northern Virginia. We each have our own set of day-to-day challenges and we try to make time to set up events to have fun but also to meet people in the area.
What media outlets do we plan to use? - We currently have the FA page, a Facebook group, a Meetup group and we are in the process of having a Twitter account and a Google+ group too. While we understand people have their own personal preferences with social media, we do not want to spread ourselves too thin. The two main sources we plan to use are the FA page and the Meetup group in part because the Meetup page is done by a monthly subscription and we plan to use it as much as possible to get the most value from our investment.
Can I run my own event(s) in the area? - Absolutely you can! We will happily post information about it but keep in mind that it will not be an official NOVA furs event. The reason for this is liability and while we encourage people to create their own events there will be times where a moderator of the NOVA furs will not be present. To ensure fairness we will post information about any unofficial events but please do not state that it is a NOVA furs event. Any questions on this matter for clarification please send us a note.
What sort of official event(s) do we plan to run? - We understand that everyfur has their own preference on the type of event that we run. We hope to balance some of our outgoing/public events with smaller private events to accommodate everyone. For the public events we also understand that people are sometimes on a budget so we try to have our events be more of a pay-for-play event where you are not required to pay anything to attend but each individual will be responsible for their own cost. We have considered events where we reserve an area and pay a fee ahead of time but the hassle of receiving reimbursements from everyone could present certain problems that we are currently going to avoid.
We also have some bigger events in the works (more details when they are available) but we can say that they are a multi-day trip, full-day trips and the like since we feel it would be a good thing to shoot for.
If you have any other questions please post below and we'd be happy to clarify anything. Thank you and hope to see you at a future meet!

Missing Fursuit?
Posted 11 years agoWe have been made aware of a partial suit which was left at the Centreville AMF from the October 4th meet. If you or anyone you know is missing their suit from that date, please send a note to
rechner with a description of the suit.
rechner with a description of the suit.Aftermath of Top Golf Alexandria!
Posted 11 years agoSo it seems like everyone had a nice time and the weather was very cooperative, even if it was a little brisk at times. We had about 20 people come to the event in which people would come and go as they please. The staff at the event enjoyed us being there and they actually enjoyed the fursuits they saw in our party. At one point some of the staff changed into their own Halloween costumes, like a chicken suit.
While we do try to notify everyone through our different outlets, sometimes unforeseen circumstances happen. This is why we encourage everyone to check out our different pages in the event one or more outlets become unavailable.
Regarding our next event(s), currently we are looking for a public venue for a Halloween gathering. Ideas such as board games, video games and various party games have been suggested and we are taking those into consideration. There are gatherings happening in our area and while we encourage members to run their own events, we will focus our attention on the larger events so we will not be sponsoring them. That being said, if you are running an event please post a link in the shoutbox of our page with information about your event for now so people in your area are aware.
We have broken the 50-watcher mark which is exciting for us but we've only just started with planning things out. We really appreciate it hearing that you guys have a good time at our events and we hope to continue our good streak going into the winter months.
Just a simple reminder that we have a link to our google form in journal footer and we have links to the facebook, meetup and directory pages/journal for people's convenience. Some people have suggested Twitter and we are exploring that option since it seems to be a popular medium for furs.
Again thank you to everyone who came! If you have photos, please post them so we can let everyone else know what they are like!

October 18th - 1:30pm - Top Golf Alexandria
Posted 11 years agoHosted by the admins of
NOVAfurs, the meet will being around 1:30pm and last about until 4pm or until people decide to leave.
Address:
6625 S Van Dorn St, Alexandria, VA
They have two miniature golf courses. $10 a person but you can play as many rounds as you want. The last hole of the mountain course (green course) will take your ball at the end but you can go back up to the front desk and they will give you another ball to play with.
We have gotten permission from the events department to come in costume so you are more than welcome to bring your partials/fullsuit/ears/tails/etc. Please remember that there will be children at the event but we hope to see you there and have a good time. This will also be a good chance to meet with all the admins of the NOVA furs group if you have any questions/concerns about future events.
To get to the miniature golf course, you go up to the clubhouse, pay your entrance fee, go into the lounge area and turn left. Go through the double doors and go straight and there should be some patio furniture there. That's where we will meet up.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask us. Thanks and we hope to see you there!

Massive updates for the NOVA furs
Posted 11 years agoFirst off, I would like to say thank you to everyone who came to the event and to those that have helped us out as we get started with the next generation of the NOVA furs group. We've gotten quite a bit of feedback and had a chance to digest the information.
Say hello to the admins of the group. If you have a question please don't hesitate to contact any of them:
-
GMNChampion -
Rechner -
Elecrabbit -
dillymae
We have a facebook group for you all to coordinate with fellow furs. The group can be found here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1489788254638257/
We also have a meetup group where we will be posting our future meets: http://www.meetup.com/NOVAfurs/
Please be sure to let other furs in our area know about the groups because we'd like to see the group grow over time.
We may pursue other social media outlets but we will keep you posted as more information becomes available.
In terms of events, here's what we are looking into for the near future:
Mini-Golf - We have been in talks with several miniature golf places and while some are welcoming to suiters, some have not been. Most places for miniature golf will be closed after Halloween so we will try to squeeze in an event before the holiday weekend. We realize that this is sudden so we would like to know who would be interested in an event like this so we can get an approximate head count. It would be for one of the remaining Saturdays.
Dave & Busters - This was suggested before and it turns out the D&B in White Flint Mall is gone (as of July I believe). The closest one now is in Hanover, MD but they have stated that they do not want people in costumes that have their face covered. We may still have an event there but it will not be fursuit-friendly.
Bowling - Our first event was a success so why not do it again? We plan to go back to Centreville Lanes since they were so gracious in having us. We may try to convert their unused dining area into a headless lounge. Dates are still being discussed and we hope to get more information regarding group rates to make it easier on everyone.
Halloween Event(s) - Under Construction
There may be other gatherings for Halloween posted in the future, we will keep you posted.
Movie Night (Big Hero 6) - This movie will be coming out Friday, November 7th but it is the same weekend as another event so we plan on posting information on where furs can meet for the following Friday, November 14th. The movie theater has no been decided upon but for now it will be labeled as not fursuit-friendly. For a trailer on the movie you can go here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8IdMPpKMdcc
Game Night(s) - Whether it's playing the new version of D&D, board games, card games or video games, chances are there are other furs who probably play the same games you do. Come get to know fellow NOVA furs while having a fun time.
Nekocon! - An anime convention down in Hampton Roads, VA. Nekocon has always been furry friendly for those that come visit. It is from November 7th - 9th at the Hampton Roads Convention Center If you plan on going we plan on having a group meetup at the convention as well as help organize groups to share rides and rooms for the event. More information about the convention can be found here: http://www.nekocon.com/
National Harbor Trip - Some of you may have visited National Harbor, MD for conventions at the Gaylord Hotel such as Katsucon or MAGfest but in the past few years the area has finished construction and there are some new sights to see. Whether it's the outlet mall nearby, some of the restaurants or some of the boutique shops (including a Peeps store) it will be a fun time to walk around and chat with fellow furs. More information regarding National Harbor can be found here: http://nationalharbor.com/
Vertical Rock - Want to practice some rock climbing without worrying about getting gear? Vertical Rock is a good place for people of all skill levels from beginner to advance. More information can be found here: http://climb-va.com/
Ice Skating - With the coming change in weather comes winter-themed events including Ice Skating. Whether you like to be graceful on the ice or go really fast there's fun to be had by everyone.
While we will try to accommodate as many people as possible please bear in mind that we may not be able to run every event and we may make a mistake from time to time. You do not have to be an admin to run an event yourself, but we would be more than happy to advise you on your event and help make it known to other furs in the group. Some of the events we will run will cost a set amount per person but that information will be known when we announce the event. This is to help cover the cost of booking and fees to help accommodate our group. Please be mindful of other furs as well as other patrons when having events in public places and if you have any suggestions and/or feedback please let us know since we'd like to learn more as we move forward.
That's all for now. Expect updates to occur about once a week as we try to keep everyone up to date on events. We will also try to post on all three outlets we have set up (FA, Facebook, Meetup) and keep the information consistent. We look forward to seeing you at a future event!

Aftermath of our first meet!
Posted 11 years agoI think at least the majority of people who went to the meet felt that it was a success. Special thanks to Spiff for starting up the idea for the meet. If any of you have photos of the meet be sure to let us know so we can share them with the rest of the group and let everyone know how much fun it was. The staff at the bowling alley enjoyed us being there and some of their employees even asked to get their picture taken with some of our suiters so we will most likely be coming back there at some point.
This coming week we will be coming up with ways to keep you all informed about future events and begin to create a list of meet ideas for the coming months. Some things we are currently considering:
- Halloween gathering(s) - There may be more than one simultaneously because of the sheer number of NOVA furs that we have
- Convention group(s) - This would help coordinate furs to go to/from conventions, share the cost of hotel rooms, etc. This is especially the case since Nekocon is coming up which is an anime convention that is especially friendly to furries
- Mini-Golf - Since the bowling meet was a success and the weather is turning a bit colder, it will be better for those that wish to wear their suits so they won't be as warm
- Game nights - This can be video games, board games, D&D games (with the new edition that's come out) with fellow furs
- Movie nights - Whether they be in-house or going to a movie theater like in Tysons Corner
- Furthermore - It's a furry convention that will be held May 29th-31st at the Sheraton in Tysons Corner. Seeing as it is in our backyard you can bet that we will try to be involved to some capacity.
And many other ideas. If there is something you feel we should look into specifically, let us know with our google form because these events only become successful with you all. Be sure to stay tuned as we work to try and make the next meet as good as the first one. Thank you all for coming and we're both happy and relieved that it turned out so well for everyone!
