First off, I have no plans of leaving here. I pretty much started here, and don't want to move. However... I keep seeing Weasyl name-dropped due to recent drama issues.

Would it be a worthwhile measure to peruse an account there? I mean... I do want some more exposure, but it doesn't exactly help I seldom draw anymore... and I'm not seeing a lot of the artists whose work I enjoy.

A couple of years ago, I was browsing youtube for EVE videos, and a video for Black Prophecy came up in the related section, and I was intrigued by it:

I had signed up for the beta, but wasn't invited. Now that it's gone public, I decided to give it a shot. Why?

- Per Part ship customization
- Real time combat
- Looks like Freelancer... in MMO form...
- Free to play

Initial impressions:

+ Flight Learning Curve
If you've ever played Freelancer, the flight controls are pretty much identical. If you haven't, then it's similar to a FPS; using WASD for basic movement, with the mouse serving as both an aiming reticule, and for steering (AKA, Point the cross hair at what you want to fly to / shoot at).

+ Ship Customization
Every part has an effect on your ships overall performance. Do you go with the high durability hull, or sacrifice some durability for speed, or maneuverability?

+ Real Time, Free Foam Combat
Combat isn't left to the mechanization's of fate. You can move where you want within the mission, and can take cover behind debris. Careful... the AI can (and does) do it too.

+ Instanced Missions
Missions are in self-contained areas, so you don't have to worry about getting PvP'd while on a mission.

- System Requirements
The downloads in themselves combine to about 6gb, not counting patches. Also, the game requires some beefy hardware, especially in the video department. I have a 9800GT, and it lags. I've also had the game silently crash.

- Lag
Being in Beta, this is understandable, but it's worth noting that ship movement can become a bit jittery.

- Freelancer Missions
If you've ever played Freelancer, you're familiar with the missions. Go to A, blow up things, return, get paid, repeat. Since this is an MMO, it becomes a grind fest. Thankfully, the missions are somewhat short...

-Tutorials
The tutorials seem lackluster, since they only appear when you press the respective menu buttons.

- Bugs
I've seen reports of certain missions not functioning.

- Premium Store
Like most free MMO's, they have to have people buying things with real money to fund it.

As a whole, I'm still skeptical. It combines Freelancer (a game I love), with aspects of an MMO (which I hate). Right now, I'm still in the prologue, grinding levels to get better set for picking my faction, but I can see some people enjoying it.

If you miss freelancer / wanted a MMO version of it, or are looking for a small scale, real time, free alternative to EVE, go ahead and try it. I'm on there under the same name as here.

I got most of the kinks worked out of getting a stream up... outside of simultaneous music and voice.

I'm considering attempting some streaming later on this week, and have some (likely) n00b-ish questions...

1: What site would you recommend using? I have a UStream account, but from what I hear, Livestream, and Watchtail are better alternatives.

2: What software do you use to capture your desktop for streaming?

As of late last month, I officially have a bachelors in Visual Communications! Hopefully, I can get a job someplace much easier now...

Also got some new equipment. A new laptop, and a Wacom Bamboo... though it doesn't have an eraser like my Graphire 3 does :/. Least it works though...

I'm trying to get back to drawing when I can. Need to get used to the new equipment. I dunno why, but I'm used to 4:3 more than 16:9...

As of last month, I completed college. I now have an associates degree in Graphic Design. I'm reasonably sure I have High Honors as well.

Employment:

I had an interesting opportunity for employment a couple of months ago. However, despite actively pursuing the lead, and surviving to the last round, I've ended up against some insurmountable hurdles that I can't pass. To begin, I have been unable to complete a core section of a required pre-licensing course. Second, several doubts with this employer have arisen. I feel the long term relationship won't work out, so have stopped pursuing this job.

I'm actively pursuing another lead at the moment, for an actual graphic design position in Ann Arbor.

I still feel lost on what to do here, whether to continue pursuing it or not. Given recent opportunities, I don't see why I should stop. However, there are still some questions I want answered, but am hesitant to even ask. In particular, one question would involve (in essence) contacting a certain web sites secondary administrator via unofficial channels (*coughthroughherecough*), which I feel is begging for acceptance / attention from said location. The other issue is whether to offer a very limited amount of commission slots (Likely 1 or 2) I still have doubts in my abilities, as well as me being notoriously slow to do anything. Tablet cable issues don't help either... x.x
