The origins of "San Sebastian"
Posted 4 years agoI don't exactly remember how I first got the idea of the story of "San Sebastian", or where I started it - but it's certainly linked to an old German marching song; "Preußens Gloria" which you can also hear in the Trailer for the comic.
The comic does not only start with Sebastians flashbacks to WW I - his flashbacks were also what I think I had in mind first after encountering the music and listening to it repeatedly.
I somehow knew after a while that the main charaters name would be Sebastian. It's just one of these intuitions you have in the shower. Hence I searched for a European city with the name San Sebastian to use it as a refence in the story. I was about to use a Spanish city I indeed found, but switched to Italy and Venice later. The channels and old buildings were just the better setting - another intuition. More and more scenes started to involve in my head over time after that. This is how Luca came into life, becoming the kind second main character of the story.
Still, we are talking about a proces of over half a year of just thinking before I finally grabed the pencil and started drawing.
All the more I'm pleased to see the comic progressing now!
Have a good one!
