Safely home from Anthrocon and glad to be back with my cat and rat babies and lazing around. I sold four out of the nine pieces I took to the art show, which is really great! It was my first time doing it, so I wasn't holding my breath, but I'm really happy stuff sold!

My only frustration (and it's very, very small) is that I was told if I had more originals in the show, people would have bought more. While that's great to hear, it's frustrating because a number of pieces I put in were digital pieces - as in from sketch to completion they don't have a physical counterpart. I'm only doing one-off prints, meaning I'll only do one print of the stuff I put in the art show and that's it. I don't know if specifying that or that they're digital pieces that don't have physical copies EXCEPT for the print would help in the future (since my stuff is a mixed bag of traditional and original) or what??

But, like I said, it's a small thing and part of the learning experience!

I may post the remaining prints left over from the art show to see if people are interested in purchasing them soon. For now, however, it's time for sleep and cat cuddling.

Well, I've been here since late Thursday afternoon, actually.

I HAVE STUFF IN THE ART SHOW. Both general (CN4, CN5, CN6) and mature (MU1, i think). Most of them are prints, but there's two traditional pieces I haven't posted here and they're all pretty cheaply priced so you should definitely bid on them and take them home with you.

I'll be wandering today and trying not to spend too much money (pfffffft). I'll be at the artists and dealer's reception this evening, as well, and I want to do some hanging out at the zoo at some point. I also have a meetup that a friend is putting on to go to sometime tonight, as well!

So I've never done the art show at Anthrocon before, but I'm doing it this year. Does anyone have any tips for packaging/displaying their art? I'm probably just going to have a handful of matted pieces, probably not bigger than 11x14 matted. I've seen a variety of display types while bidding on stuff in the past, including some people matting stuff, some not, some using the cellophane bags to protect their pieces, some not. It's kind of a gamble and I'm just trying to hash out what I might need to pick up still.

We spend a lot of the convention just together with each other, so if we're going to do something and don't invite folks along, then please don't invite yourself. After some thought and taking a look at my current personal life situation, I'm going to be refunding the commissions I currently owe. I simply cannot balance doing paid artwork on top of catching up on school from my mother's heart attack and working two jobs. I can barely keep my head above water with just that stuff alone, I don't need to have overdue commissions hanging in the back of my mind reminding me that there's yet something else I have to do, as well.

As far as I can recall, the only two commissions I have in my queue currently are:

That being said, I'm probably not going to be taking commissions for awhile. I'm pretty unhappy with how I've been letting my art stagnate and how I've been telling myself I should be posting more for more exposure so I can get more commissions that, in turn, I generally don't like doing anyhow. I should be drawing for myself or for friends or to improve my artwork in general.

Whenever I do take commissions again, it'll probably be for small things or styles I really like doing. Full digital commission pieces take a lot out of me and I don't feel I do them as much justice as I should.

And, like I said, balancing work, school, family, and a social life is hard enough on its own without a quasi third job thrown in there that I'm not even getting paid minimum wage for.

I want to draw because it makes me happy, not to pay the bills.

my mom's in the hospital in cleveland, she had a massive heart attack. like, super serious forty-eight hours critical condition balloon in her heart heavy sedatives restrained to the bed heart attack. it happened on friday (lol of course friday the thirteenth) and i've been back and forth to the hospital over the weekend. she's doing better (responding to us, writing things down, general communication), but she still has a lot of recovery to do.

i'm trying to balance my time between there (her boyfriend/common law husband/whatever is up there now for a few days) and keeping up on job and work, so i don't know how much art i'll be doing and i'm putting the two commissions i have in my queue on the backburner.

it is so hot this week i feel like i'm living on the surface of the sun. it's so hot i'm not using capital letters. it's ridiculous.

i do not have air conditioning. when i am not at home in my sweltering house, i am at work, uh, working.

which means i might not be able to work on anything until it cools down a touch. because sticky, sweaty arms on the tablet or sketchbook are not conducive to decent arting.

I really don't talk heavily about fandom stuff and there's really little fandom drama I find all that entertaining. But I do love talking about things like Supernatural, ball joint dolls, roleplay (of the cooperative writing variety), dumb characters, art stuff, Game of Thrones, Doctor Who, Mass Effect, etc., etc.

I don't think the fandom is one big, happy family. I think using 'fur' as suffixes or prefixes for words is dumb (furst, furiends, etc.). I'm not into My Little Pony (well, I'm not into the new stuff, but I used to collect G3 ponies), Portal, Minecraft, or whatever else the fandom is currently jizzing over. I don't like babyfurs, either. /kanyeshrug

I have internets back for now, which is good. I'm plunking away at the two commissions I have, but it's been hard to squeeze them in between end of the semester workload PLUS actual employment workload (I work three jobs at the end of the semester and the few weeks around finals are always jam packed with either job or class stuff).

It's obviously been some time since my last update, so here's the skinny:

I was sick, then I fell behind on schoolwork, then I got anxiety about doing schoolwork and I fell behind more, I started back at my two campus jobs and that only exacerbated the issue. Then, the power cord on my laptop died and I was without my laptop and, subsequently, one of the two commissions I owe.

I recently got a new power cord, but there's still life things that I really dragging me down and making it hard for me to work on things that aren't either employment or college. This semester has been really rough for me, classwork-wise, and it's been hard for me to focus and keep on top of things, which I have to do in order to keep certain parts of my financial aid.

I know the two commissions I have are DREADFULLY overdue and I will do my best to get these things done over spring break (which starts on the 24th). I know making folks wait so long and I'm a terrible person, but you guys should totally drop me a note and I'll try to do something a little extra for you.

That being said...

I might open for some small commissions due to the lovely IRS holding the fiance's tax return for review. I guess he was a random pick out of the all the random picks they do every year and it's really frustrating because, well, we were supposed to pay rent with that! Huge pain in the ass, basically, because now we don't know when we'll get said refund the letter we got, and the person I spoke to on the phone, said that all the reviews will be processed by May. Which means we could have it tomorrow, or we could get it at the end of April. Obviously, one of those is a completely crap situation.

So I want to maybe take some commissions to put some money towards rent, since I don't make quite enough bi-weekly at my jobs (they're work study, so I can only work so many hours a week, though I pick up other shifts when they come available) to just toss the rent money at my landlord from that.

Okay, I know Furcadia is pretty lame and I seriously went years (YEARS) without downloading it or trying it out, but I've been playing around with it the last couple days and it's kind of cute, I'm not going to lie. I like looking at people's ports and popping into dreams and seeing some amazingly designed stuff. I installed it to see if it would help motivate me to get back into pixel art by doing ports, but I don't know if I have the patience for it anymore.
