This worked out well last time, so I'm doing it once more!
Pay What You Want Busts @ $20 per hour.
Payment through PayPal, in USD.
Minimum of $20 (1 hour), maximum of $60 (3 hours).
If your character has wings and you want them shown in the background, add $5 to the above prices (ie $45 for 2 hours + wings).

Posted 12 years agoI fixed my computer, yay!!! Was indeed a simple dead power supply, thankfully nothing more. So, digital art is no longer on hold! If you've been waiting, thank you very much for being patient while I got things sorted out. :)

Massive Rave Commissioners, Please Read!
Posted 12 years agoI've been getting questions here and there about the status of the Massive Rave Commission, so I'm going to address those as best as I can here:
-Yes, it has taken longer than my original estimate of September to finish the image. Having never done a project on this scale before, my estimate was off, and I do apologize for this. Please remember that I did state in my journals initially that "no hard deadline is set." My new estimate for completion is sometime in November.
-No, I am NOT able to post a WIP at this time, due to computer issues (dead power supply). The Longer Explanation: all of my files are backed up to an external drive which is, unfortunately, formatted as Mac-only, so I cannot access my data from the windows laptop I am currently borrowing (and nobody else I know locally owns a Mac). Trust me, I'm just as frustrated by this as you are, but there's nothing I can really do until my computer turns on again.
-I'm currently waiting for my new (refurb) power supply to arrive in the mail, at which point I'll install it, and hopefully be good to go. This should happen sometime next week. Until then, again, I do NOT have any access to any of my stored data.
-As soon as I possibly can, I will be posting WIP images to FA, and sending out an update email to everyone who got a slot.
-I hope to have the image completed in November - but again - this is an estimate, not a deadline, and is based on my successfully repairing my computer. I will update the estimate if the situation warrants.
-If anyone would like a refund, please read: email me at electricgecko at gmail dot com, and I can discuss this with you individually. Include the FA username under which you bid for a slot, as well as the paypal email address you used for payment. (Please keep in mind I will re-auction any forfeited slots, and you will not be eligible to bid on them again.)

Animated Jack-O-Lantern Icons! closed
Posted 12 years agoHi everyone! I have decided to open this year for ONE round of my animated Jack-O-Lantern icons! (like these: sample 1 sample 2, sample 3, sample 4). You get the 500x500 full-size, and 100x100 icon in both animated and still versions. Please note, this style works best for relatively simple/iconic characters; extremely colorful and/or detailed designs may not work, so I do reserve the right to decline characters that I feel are too complicated!
They are $30 each, or $55 for two, and they will be done in a week or less (by Oct. 21st) so you have time to display them before Halloween :)

Posted 12 years agoIt's not really much of an "update" since nothing much has changed, but I thought I should get another journal up reminding folks of the following:
-My computer is currently being repaired, so my online access is very limited. (I don't have a smartphone or anything of the sort, I guess I am a technological dinosaur!)
-Digital commissions, including the Massive Rave commission, are delayed/on-hold for the time being. I will resume updating and working on them as soon as I have my computer fixed!
-FA notes are the most reliable way to get in touch with me right now; I have only sporadic access to my email (as I'm very wary of logging into secure sites on unsecured/shared computers) so I can check FA more frequently than email.
I'm luckily over the con crud, and getting through the traditional commissions I took home from RF; just a handful more left to go! If you're waiting on a badge or sketch, those will be done very, very soon. :) Thank you all so much for your patience while I get everything sorted out!!

maker question, thicker 'Foamies' foam?
Posted 12 years agoExactly like the title says: does anyone know of a good source for thicker sheets (1"+) of the higher-density foam material sold as "Foamies" in craft/etc. stores? Doesn't have to be specifically a craft product, I know I've seen other things made out of the stuff, I'm just drawing a blank for where I might be able to get some now! Preferably in black, but other colors might be okay too. Thanks in advance for any suggestions. :)

-Replies to all messages will be slow. I'm borrowing a friend's laptop now to write this, and my connectivity is sporadic at best.

I'm going to try something new with my bust commissions: I'm now accepting a round of Pay-What-You-Want Busts! As I find that a lot of the time, the busts look good even in their early stages of development, I'm offering this as a way for people to get the same basic style and size (1250x1000) for whatever price you can afford. :)

...ranging from 30 minutes for cleaned up lines, 45 minutes for flat color and basic shading, and 1-3 hours for lighting, texture and final cleanup.
Please do note, the results WILL vary based on how complex a character is! For example, I can get further along with shading/coloring a simple chatacter in an hour than I can with a very complex one. I also use different coloring/shading methods depending on colorations, etc., but I always strive to do the best work I can in the time that I have.
So, here's how this will work!
-I don't have a set number of slots, but have 30 hours available in total, at $20/hr.
-The minimum is $10 (30 minutes) and the maximum is $60 (3 hours).

Inverted thumnbails? WTF?!
Posted 12 years agoI have NO clue why, but FA made the big thumbnails for my two latest submissions INVERTED in color. :O This was not my doing at all, and while it's sorta cool in a weird way, I'm also terribly confused. ;_; Anyone know what's up with that? Experiencing the same thing? Not like it really matters, it's just BIZARRE.
Also, I've been having the dreaded Connectivity Issue (as outlined in the current admin announcement header) the last few days, and so my access to the site is kinda limited until that gets sorted out. It was pointed out to me that I made a BIG MISTAKE: I accidentally listed two different ending times for the 2nd round of Rave Auctions. :(
I have decided to honor the LATER stated ending time of:

It was pointed out to me that I made a BIG MISTAKE: I accidentally listed two different ending times for the 2nd round of Rave Auctions. :(
I have decided to honor the LATER stated ending time of:
### WEDNESDAY, MAY 22 at 8:00 PM Pacific / 11:00 PM Eastern. ###
This means that the auctions are being EXTENDED for an additional 24 hours.
I sincerely apologize for any confusion or inconvenience my mistake may have caused anyone!
If you received a comment from me earlier tonight (Tuesday, May 21st) stating you won an auction slot, PLEASE DISREGARD IT, as the auctions are now continuing for 24 extra hours.
If you are still the highest bidder as of tomorrow evening's revised ending date, I will re-send confirmation that you have won at that time.

Rave Commission UPDATES! & 2nd Auction Round NOW OPEN!

-1st Round of auctions is now over, and winners will be receiving a note from me shortly if they haven't already. Thank you SO MUCH to everyone who bid, I really appreciate all the interest this has been getting! :)

All 2nd Round Auctions will END TUESDAY, MAY 21st, 2013 at 8pm Pacific / 11pm Eastern time.
I made the decision to auction the remaining unique slots (any that couldn't easily be placed in one of 3 general groups), and they are all up now, including more close-up singles and couples, sound tech duo, liquid and lightshow dancers, barflies, and a photographer.
-NEW OPENING DATE FOR GENERAL SLOTS: I have moved the general opening time forward 2 days, and first-come first-serve crowd slots will now be opening on [b]WEDNESDAY, MAY 22, at 8PM Pacific / 11 PM Eastern. This is to allow time for the 2nd round auctions to close and winners notified before the general slots go on sale.
How General Slots Will Work:
-I have split the remaining crowd slots into 3 sections: Balcony, Front Dancefloor and Middle Dancefloor.
-I will assign slots on a first-come first-serve basis, based on the order/timestamp of comments.
-You get to pick which of the 3 sections you want your character in, but you will NOT be choosing an exact slot or pose; that will be done at my discretion, wherever I think you'll fit best into the image. There will be roughly 10-12 slots available in each of the 3 sections, and I will allow up to 2-3 pairs per section at the discounted couples rate.
-Balcony price will be $25 for 1 character or $45 for a pair; Front Dancefloor price will be $35 for 1 character or $60 for a pair; Middle Dancefloor price will be $45 for 1 character or $75 for a pair.
-There will be a reservation limit of 3 SLOTS per person (3 individual OR 1 individual and 1 couple), for all levels of general slots.

Group Rave: Auctions OPEN, & pondering re: General Slots...

These auctions are ending SUNDAY, MAY 19th at 8 PM Pacific (11 PM Eastern) time, OR 15 minutes after the final bid for each auction is placed, wheiever is later (to prevent bid-sniping).
Now, for some pondering on the General Slots!
This is the first time I've done something this complex, and I'm now realizing with this huge crush of bids on the auctions, that opening 50+ slots all at the same time (there are 61 at last count, and I may even squeeze in a few more! o_O)... would probably be utter chaos, to put it mildly!
So, I am thinking that I will instead split the general slots up into several groups of similar slots (ie balcony, front of dancefloor, middle of dancefloor, etc.), and take the total number of reservations available for the TYPE of slot, rather than the exact slot. This way I won't have to worry about double-booking, and you can still choose the flat rate you want and your approximate position in the picture, first-come first-serve.
I am also thinking that I will hold a SECOND ROUND OF AUCTIONS, Sunday through Monday, for all of the unusual slots that I can't fit into a general category (most of the couples slots, and a few others I didn't put with the first auction, like sound tech, barflies, etc. - I was planning to offer them at higher prices than other slots, but since that could be a real booking nightmare, they would be auctions starting at $1 instead). I know this is a little different than my originally stated plan, but I think it will work a lot smoother this way.
Otherwise, I foresee it being REALLY hard to figure out who claimed a given slot first, and the potential for confusion and hurt feelings is high. This should hopefully make it easier on me, as well as on you! I think it'll end up much more fair in the end. :)
I will post finalized information about a second auction round and groupled slots on Sunday, after the first round of auction slots have closed. Thanks for bearing with me while I figure out the logistics! :)

Furlandia recap
Posted 12 years agoWell, overall I had a pretty good weekend! Some highlights:
-Sold art and turned a profit in the den, for once without overworking myself. :D
-Met lots of cool new people, and saw lots of friends. I was honestly expecting mostly locals, which would have been fine, but it seemed like a good mix of locals and out-of-towners were there!
-It was nice to have a con so close to home; in fact, in true Portland fashion, I took public transit there. Woulda rode my bike, even, but I had WAY too much stuff to bring with me. X)
-Dicktaurs & CupCon (you had to be there).
There were some drawbacks, of course:
-The hotel was... sub-optimal, let's say. Not the worst ever, located well and near lots of food... but poor A/C, too many stairs, and a closed pool in spite of hot weather were all rather sad things. I survived, but man I felt bad for the fursuiters! I hear it'll be at a different hotel next year, here's hoping the amenities will be better.
-Media. I know the rumors are flying about this one. Usually this isn't a huge deal to me if media is there or not; I don't like to be filmed, so I just avoid camera crews and all is well. I'm just pretty disappointed that their official Twitter announced that "media is not allowed and will be escorted out"... only to then be told that MTV was there once I actually arrived. That felt dishonest, like a bait & switch, and it's going to be somewhat tough to trust their word on important matters in the future as a result.
...but overall, I did have a good time.
I'd gone into it with few expectations, since it was so last-minute, but I think it came off pretty well for a first-year con. With a new hotel, more time to plan and better public relations, I imagine it'll improve a lot.
Thanks to everyone who stopped by my table, bought something, or just had kind words, I appreciate it a lot! :) And thanks to the staff, who no doubt worked their asses off to make it happen. I'll be back next year!
