My first time
General | Posted 13 years agoI thought that would get your attention...
Last night was my first time...in a Latin club!!!!!! I have to admit, it was not what I expected at all. Even though a an half Latino, I was not raised in my culture, I don't speak the language and have only a couple of Hispanic friends. The occation to expieriance this culture came in the form of my coworkers 26th birthday party last night, held at Mango's, a totally Latin club here in OKC. I was to be the "special surprize guest" making an apperance on the dance floor after midnight~to say i was aprehencive would cover it. Our host Josh did set up a space for my entourage (I always wanted to have one) to store my suit in....hes a regular, and assured us it was going to be fine....but try explaining to the security and the club managment about an Adult size Coyote suit your bringing into there establishment~ as soon as the manager began to smile we we're in, no problems at all. Inside the club was your typical nightclub scene, or so it seemed on the surface. We made our way through the sparce crowd while hispanic music played...everybody definatly checked us out, especially the 6'2" blond woman in the zebra print mini dress and silver heels~yeah thats how
rolls. As soon as we emerged from the dressing room near a dance floor,I began to take in the place. Askari was asked to dance by an nicely dresses older gentleman, she politely declined not knowing the Salsa well enough to keep up with his seasoned feet. This guy was smooth~he soon had a partner and smiled at us while effortlesly showing the younger men how to Salsa with style. This club had a different feel already, it was chill, the young mixed with and respected the older crowd there. Most of the women we're all dressed to impress with short dresses and heels, from there peticures to there flawless make up. The men I noticed we're mostly hispanic, small of stature, well groomed and polite, quietly strolling thru the club. A waitress aproched us with drinks, she said it was compliments of the back bartender...we had made an impression already. The brother of our host arrived first and within five minuites was on the dance floor. Josh followed quickly behind~talk about beloved...wow, this guy really did know everybody. Every person who greeted him either kissed or hugged him. The waitress arrives next with all the shots beer we can handle, all free, glow sticks are distributed and Pittbull is being played...time for Oki. I rolled out of the back room, came down some stairs and the crowd parts~well as much as it could. As soon as i bounce onto the dance floor, the crowd is totally into it, bouncing with me and forming a circle to let me show off...Josh fist pumps his was over and we have the club jumping and chanting Go-Go-Go-Go Oki...yeah~life is good. I pulled a few random people from the crowd, mostly female, and bump and grind with them...I swear I have never seen so many Iphones take pictures at once!!! More than anything, I have a new respect for this culture I was so foreign to. Were I a single Coyote, the Latin club scene would be where I would socialize~its not pretentious or full of loosers. Everybody there was completly nice and ready to party the moment they walked in the door, and the dance floor was full of couples really dancing the whole night. If you get an invite to a Latin club~go...you don't have to speak the language to embrace its energy.

General | Posted 13 years agoThis con for me was an odd one...let me elaborate.
A ton of weird energy was bouncing about, most of it good but I definatly did notice a change in the entire vibe of Wild Nights past.
1. There were more new furs than in years past, some I knew of but most kept to themselves, I found myself observing groups gathered together from a distance, doing a lot of listening, staying in the background for once~its a Coyote thing.
2.A first for me was the untimely death of our good friends beloved dog Ozzy at the con.
is going to take some time away to recover from this loss, your thoughts and prayers would be the best remedy right now. He had a great final day up on the mountian with his loving master~i was retrieved by a mutual friend to hear the devistating news. As the hand of Irony would have it, i had spoken to Dobie about performing a rainbow bridge service if anything ever happened to Ozzy...12 hours later it came to pass-I'm still getting my head around that event.
3.On a positive note,
and myself collectivly shot-directed-edited and presented a video all from the con!!! Who says it can't be done? We had all the elements of a great video...Zombie attacks, terror, screaming lots of Blair witch type camera angles and even a rape shack!!!!!
4. I was sober for almost 8 hours while not sleeping-a personal best. This was made difficult by my new and possibly best friends from a con ever....
and
who greeted my on three occations with Coronas in paw, extending them to me. Talk about making good on a promise, you guys are an awesome sundea covered in hot win sauce!!!!! But they did expose a con virgin to me at there epic travel trailor...I hope i did not scar her mind.
5. "Fosgate Ferret-Loan officer" the work of the ever so talented
the clever Bear even passed out buisness cards to con goers to promote the show. Even though it was a reading-no stage set-no costumes it did'nt matter because a good musical stands alone~and wow, did it ever. Wonderfull job my friend-I would travel to see the fully polished version anytime!!!!
6. 2 words ~ROCK CLIMBING~ Damn...talk about pushing ourselves this time, we definatly did...I'm covered in small bruises, scrapes and i even discovered one in my scalp! So yeah-those who chose to follow my tiger
and I up onto Robbers Cave overlook found themselves going into some small, hard, wet, and unknown passages for sure. Merk and i tend to challenge each other and this trip was a new personal best for all involved. A special "you go girl" to the little pack Kitsune
who drove 3 hours to visit for a single day and overcame her fear of tight spaces and hights to keep up with us. We are all very proud of you momma-san!!!!!
7. The guided meditation opened up some doors-closed a few windows-and led a few to a new awarness of the world just beyond there finger tips~and just behind there eyes. As in all things concerning the arts arcana~silence of the things done and said must remain veiled.
8. The fursuit I donated to the MESA aucition has a proud new owner!!!! The winning bidder was
who gave it to his mate
I'm so happy that he stayed here in the state. More than words could not discribe my emotions when I heard the bid of $1,000.00 the room got really quiet after that...I wish to extend my heartfelt gratitude to you my old friend-you are generous beyond mesure-the con and all who attend next year will benefit greatly from it.
9. In closing, this con was more about what I did not do...I did'nt get a badge, i chose a dogtag instead-I attended no dances-no time @ the fire-no grand acts of drunken stupidity-I only suited once or twice. A lot of traditions were upheld and good times had by all...no storms, no drama, all returned home safe. 2012 was a win.
10. A new pack member was added also, hes been around us for a couple of seasons and events. his energy melds with the packs so well another member requested him for membership. So
welcome to Hell~

Thick skin
General | Posted 14 years ago"That bitch is tougher than a two dollar steak cooked well done." ~Me
A little montra that i use on occation to discibe any number of people or situations deemed worthy. I only wish more people, expecially furries, could adopt this in there lives. I'm older-I have a thick skin, both emotionally and physically, but i do bleed and I'm always shocked that its not black. Life has not always been kind-i was a micro geek in High school, un noticed by the girls-tanuted by others...even my own cousins who came from the chatholic school after eigth grade~so yeah, i put on the only armore i could forge.
I got sick of the bullshit-sick of no friends-sick of not being included~the brunt of jokes~others opinions...the list goes on.
Theres another saying a mentor of mine~an Eagle (not furry, but thats how i saw him) told me a long time ago, and wow does it ever hold true. "Get in where you fit in....and if your corners don't match find another hole." As funny as it sounded to me then, it holds so much more meaning now.
After he told me that, I began to look at things in a different light. Did i really want to be included in a clik or what the fuck ever it was at the time...that i had not an ounce common ground in? I was outside looking in, all I could see was what I "thought" was so appealing~only because I didnt have it. I was'nt invited-for obvious reasons-I see that now, but back then all I was allowing myself to know was rejection by proxy.
I was'nt alone, but could I see that? No. Fear of future rejection became my bed partner, and i was the bottom every time with no lube.
So I decided to say tit-fuck that noise and find my place outside of the norm...what did the "norm" ever do for me but make me contemplate going down the river, not across the street? And I have never looked back-why should I? People, furs and non furs alike, that i "have something" a certian appeal that others wish to emulate or just wanna be around-my best friend big Jon called it "social lube"~i had to pause mentally for that one.
This social lube of mine is just how my thick skin breaths-I tell it like it is and pull no punches, if you can't take my verbal barrage of pseudo insults and random bulshit that streams forth from my head...well then you have no buisness being around my circle of influence. People who understand this, my mate included, are my closest friends-I tend to doormatt the rest. (see the doormat...thats as far as your comming in) I have yet to see the need to remove this armore I forged so long ago-I earned every rivet-carefully crafted by the meanest blacksmith walking the planet~me. I keep my fire hot with expieriances.
If your some sociopathic drama lord who gets ass wounded instantly over any little MLP joke overheard in a bathroom stall....Learn to take a fucking joke will ya? And understand if I don't include you in what ever activity I or my friends have going on~its nothing personal, we just want our space. I do treat some people the way that i do because THATS what they deserve...I'm a karmic balancer...I can take it, been doing it for decades.
Drink your hater-aid if i have blasted you back into reality in the past-if i have called you on your bullshit...and if i saw you standing on the edge of a bridge ready to Emo-out...why would you be surprised if I pushed you?

Sex? Plumbing is outdoor
Roomates-

Fursuiter? Abso-fucking-lutly... also I talk in suit, a lot, so don't be surprised.
Can I hug you? If you don't smell like an ashtray or stale laundry then yes~hug away.
Panels?-yes
and myself will be hosting one on Mascoting 101 on saturday.
Dance? Is a pigs ass made of Pork chops?
Friendly if I don't know you? sure...just be prepared for my personallity...I've been compared to a cat comming out of a dryer.
OK,what if I'm shy but still want to meet you? *Grabs a megaphone* Then take your balls out of your purse and drop the EMO routine...then we can speak.
Artist? We all know better.
Room party? Yes...you will know if your invited.
Hooka? you better believe it. But I find cigarettes the most offencive thing on the planet.

I tend to be a very direct and forward personallity both in and out of suit.Me having fun is at the core of everything I'm even slightly involved in. So lighten up if you encounter us being random and loud~or take notes...either way its a hoot to watch. My pack is family-we take care of each other reguardless of the situation. I tollerate zero drama-period...cons are my vacation from the world i have to survive in so don't fuck that up for us... If you look rediculess and are acting like a 12 year old hopped up on Nyquil and Mt. dew...I'm most likely going to slap the ever loving piss out of you if you come near me or my mate.
Yeah...so there it is...you have been updated.
Anything more you wanna know about this old Coyote...ask away in the comments!

Anouncment
General | Posted 14 years agoI have officially been recruited~yes another Roller Derby team has made me an offer. Green country roller girls out of Tulsa will be my new home team starting this season. When I got into this sport three years ago, I never suspected I would be a popular as I evidently have become. Being strictly a volunteer comes with few perks-you do it for the love of the sport. OKCRD is a good team that I had a decent run with, but the time has come to move forward in my mascoting career. Starting fresh with a new team is a nerve racking affair I promis you. This will be the first season in the franchise history they have had a mascot, just like Oklahoma city did. Tulsa has a brand new Pavillion that holds 4,500 spectators, there season opener drew in over 1000 and thats with an Oilers fund raiser going on at the same time. I even get my own dressing room-it may not sound like much, but that is a perk worth the drive. i will be doing double duty for both there All stars and the entry level team, so I ve gotta get on my cardio!!!! Oki 2.0 will debut with them March 17th...fitting as the team colors are green and black. I have to say, I'm very honored to be with this new squad-when the team captian told me I had a jersey waiting....I was close to doing a backflip. There a nationally ranked team who consistantly finishes first in there devision. Other markets recruit from them~there legit. New year-New team-New suit-same Coyote attitude...take no prisoners, make no apologies, and its always a party with a Furry in the house. Brace yourself Tulsa...theres a madman comming...and hes 100%~

Saying goodbye
General | Posted 14 years agoToday I had to say my goodbyes to a fallen co worker and genuine friend. Larry understood me~thats saying a lot..he never judged me in any way shape or form, even when I shared with him my love for the Furry Fandom. the last time i saw him, he gave me a small white button that reads."I'm here to save your planet" I wear it on my work vest every day~now more than ever, i will cherish it.Larry was a man of multi talents, he knew the trade of upholstery like no other and designed countless dream kitchens for Lowe's customers. His most redeaming quality was his ability to listen, no matter the subject or time of day, you could count on Larry to lend you an ear. As i watched the slide show at his memorial service,(standing room only0 they played fleetwood Macs "Landslide" it was very fitting and a moving tribute to this man who was taken way befor his time. To say i was moved to tears was an understatment. Larry had only 61 years on this planet, but every life he touched`remains richer because of him. As I light this Altar candle in front of your picture tonight...I want you to know I remain honored to be called your friend and fellow "weirdo"~rest well my fellow Elvis fan, I'll see you on the other side. To meet Larry just click the link, but don't be surprized if he talks to you....he has a way of doing that.

Regrets
General | Posted 14 years ago"Regrets i have a few, but too few too mention."~Frank Senatra
I love that saying, and considering the guy who said it, wow...that holds some weight. He lived his life on terms set forth by himself...what a luxury. He was both admired and dispised, yes, the chairman of the board had enemys. Most by his own hand, but you have to remember who your dealing with when it comes to Frank. He was a firm believer in moving on, even if he had to say goodnight one last time, he did it with class. A trait almost forgotten today. Now on to the Albacor in this sushi.
Regret is like wearing an empty backpack thats too small for you and smells of a cat box. Carry it long enough and it begins to define you. People are going to dissapoint us on some level, missunderstandings are bound to happen. I've been saying theres nothing more expencive than regret for years, its very true, and i hold to that truth moving into 2012. That being said, heres my new contribution to my ever growing hard drive of quotes. "He who harbors regret, has never truely sailed."
Think of it this way, we're all sailors on the sea of life...trade winds lead us to destinations unknown to discover the beauty life has to offer, even if its just across town. The sea swells and falls, currents lead us to our ports of call both familiar and foriegn, but through it all, one constant remains...our crew. Without them, our ship is lost. All of us are Captains and crew members alike, we lead by example and follow sute depending on the cards were delt.
But what of the past...the wake trailing our collective crafts? The sun sets and the wake vanishes, but it remains in the darkness just the same.
And what of the anchors every good ship carries...some have chains forged on the anvil of regret, and nothing impeeds a ships headway like those.
Whos wake are you looking for in the comming year? A fast ship, sails full and bright in the sun, laden only with the treasure of good friends and exciting destinations? Or the hulking bardge painted grey with self loathing, bellowing dark smoke to hide its rusting hull~barely trudging along fighting for every foot of progress because of the hold filled with anchors? And only one person on board~a lone Captain...whos course is uncharted, and theres a Nor-Easter blowing in.

Drumming racoon~
General | Posted 14 years agoSome of you know or have heard of him...a few of us have seen him perform..and I have had the honor of playing alongside of him.
This performance is still fascinating to me, the relative ease portrayed for his craft...his zen-the man is truly in touch with another plane.
A big thanks to Ratchet for the great video production.
