2023 Art Shenanigans, Social Media!
Posted 2 years agoHi hi friends (and foes? gosh, I hope not!) I am finally starting to catch up with my uploads and get more publicly active with art again -- I've done quite a bit of drawing in the interim into the new year. Now I'd like to share it more and dive into seeing about all sorts of content, lurid and otherwise in 2023!
One big shakeup is that I've kicked off a new Twitter handle for broader posting of my creative works -- from fantasy art and adventurous story panels to more adult content (i.e. kinky smut, naturally.) If you'd like to catch and follow me at http://www.twitter.com/thatartdoe
I'd love to have you along for the ride and look forward to carrying on throughout the year!
Is there a character or characters you'd like to see more of? Particular mischief or adventures? I'd love to hear about it in the comments!
Much love to all of you, from those new to checking out my work to those who have been following my growth and improvement over the years, I really appreciate it!

Art Updates & A Questing Magpie!
Posted 4 years agoHello everyone, and thank you for taking the time to peek! It's been an awful long time since I went about penning a journal here, so I'm a bit long overdue. So for those of you interested in what's up with this bird, a brief recap and some updates. This past year, and 2020 before it, have obviously been quite tumultuous - and as many have experienced, it has had its trials, particularly for creative pursuits.
However, I am excited to share that my progress with art and projects thereof have been ongoing, with a variety of pieces in the works here and there, and a number that you've probably started to see uploaded to the gallery here! I'm also going back and doing a bit of catch-up with including pieces that I've commissioned over the past span, for those of you that enjoy seeing some of the wonderful character content dear friends and fine artists have put together as well.
I am starting to warm back up to the prospect of potentially taking on commissions again down the road, if that is of interest to folks -- and in the meantime, I've begun some overdue tidying up and housekeeping with my FA profile here, sorting the character folders and making it a bit easier to navigate the gallery if you're looking for a particular sort of entry!
Currently, I'm working on finishing up a few new characters for the lot and their associated art, but I'm also looking to start providing some expanded literary and written content if that's something of interest to you too!
Right now, my biggest new project is that I'm excited to share that after being keen to do so for quite some time, I've begun a 'quest'! For those of you unfamiliar, they're a bit like a Choose Your Own Adventure tale, often with accompanying illustrations and narrative text and 'played' by the audience of readers along the way. Folks weigh in on what is happening, and generally speaking the suggestions that seem to gel the most for the group end up informing the actions and events that unfold!
While I don't imagine that I will be posting the bulk of what comes together from that here -- in part because there's a lot of experimental aesthetic, and partly because I don't want to annoy anyone with 'too much' of a different sort of content from my feed -- I'd like to share some of the occasional highlights and 'feature' pieces that accompany some more prominent bits on occasion along with my regular art.
If you'd like to follow along or even participate, the quest can be found here: https://questden.org/kusaba/quest/res/1010895.html Please Note: this is a NSFW / 18+ undertaking, so there are also instances where lewd imagery and writing are also present! As a further disclaimer, it is a setting that mixes humans and other fantasy creatures with furry characters if that is of import to you!
In addition to my project there, quest den features a variety of entertaining and interesting tales actively run by other artists and authors as well, so I encourage you to take a peek -- you may be surprised to find many new fonts of entertainment (and, occasionally, interactive saucy fiction and art)!
Sojourn is the first of what I hope to be a number of tales over time, if interest supports them - with a variety of characters, genres and capers (including, I daresay, lewd content.) Sojourn in particular is a fantasy tale where the audience / readers are in the role of Kaia, a buune adventuress. I am thrilled to share such art and writing with others, and hope that you find it enjoyable and interesting!
I mentioned in the context of this recent update, but I'll close out this journal with a personal note: It's wild to look back on everything that has unfolded over the years--and I am grateful and humbled by all of the kind encouragement and support I've received from many of you throughout--it has helped me to continue to grow and improve in this creative journey and I hope you accompany me through many fun pieces ahead!
Much love,
Magpie

Creative Combo Capers - YCH Art & Writing Raffle
Posted 8 years agoHello everyone!
As we enter fun summer months and full swing with creativity bristling and bubbling, I looked back and reflect that it had been quite a while since I'd done the last gift draw & freebie shenanigans--and since I found myself this past weekend pondering on what I wanted to work on next, I thought it might be a great opportunity to seek out fun prompts and involve you and your characters with mine!
One of the things I am planning on pursuing moving forward is accompanying art pieces with vignettes or writing--short stories of scenes and the like--to add some extra fun flair to things. Being rather excited with my progress with drawing in general over the past year and a half, I figured that this would be an entertaining way to kick things off!
Given that, I'm turning to you folks who have been watching and following me on this exciting journey, whether you've been with me working past rough early pieces or found yourself keen after my more recent works.
What I'm looking for from anyone who's interested is a creative combo between us: pairing one of my characters with one of yours for something fun! I think this could lead to some interesting possibilities and also present a chance to learn a bit about some of the characters and individuals watching along.
Basically, name one of my characters and yours (with a ref image), tell me a bit about the character, and then include an idea for what you think would be a fun, evocative, interesting situation or theme to explore with the pairing together. I'll go through the comments and see what seems to strike the strongest inspiration and try to capture it with a drawing and short writing vignette to accompany it, working with you a bit to collaborate on the end results!
I know I'd like to do at least one of these, but may end up doing several, or trying to make it a semi-regular 'thing' moving forward depending on how it turns out.
You can see my characters by heading into my gallery and checking out the listings under the 'My Characters' folder header (which is -mostly- decently-organized). I'm also open to elaborate a bit more of Q&A with characters in this as well, if anyone of you are interested in learning more about a particular character or characters.
Let's see if we can't have some fun! ^<^

Upcoming Official Commissions
Posted 9 years agoHi hi hi!
So very much has developed since November of 2015 and this little art odyssey has proven to be a wonderful adventure full of fun, education and some very satisfying strides of progress! I am now at a point where I am feeling much more comfortable and confident about the consistency and level of my drawing capability--and as such, am preparing to put together a more official structured / standard commission setup for what sorts of character works and drawings I can offer for folks.
Over the next few days or so, I'm going to be sorting out some of the particulars from a technical side (e.g. put together a rate sheet with examples of inks, flat colors, shading, establish rates, assemble a terms of service and so forth.) After that, I believe that I will be fired up and ready to take on a couple of commission slots and go from there.
It has been some seven months or so since I initially looked into doing this (how time flies!) and in the meantime I have completed a number of commissions along the way--while also getting much, much faster and more adept at my drawing in general. I'm pretty darn proud of the results!
So, with all that in mind, I wanted to write this as a general heads-up for that process, in case any of you might be of a mind that you'd like to commission a drawing from this bird--and also to solicit notions folks might have as to what things they might like to see available and what they might be interested in!
At this time, my current estimation is a ballpark of roughly $15 - $20 for inked line art, $25 - $35 for flat colors and between $40 - $70 for a fully shaded / lighted piece featuring a single character, depending on complexity for each. I am generally comfortable with putting together a rough sketch to present before beginning a piece and making a round or two of adjustments before beginning. These prices may change after getting more of a feel for standard work, but that's my initial trajectory at least.
For now, I will be open to accepting payment through Square Cash ( https://cash.me/$oneflymagpie/ if you're unfamiliar ) which I can personally attest to more than two hundred transactions without headaches or incident and a growing number of artists are working through it as well; I'm a big fan of the service! I do not currently utilize PayPal, nor accept checks.
My intention is to be a bit flexible depending on the subject, extra elements such as particularly elaborate characters, backgrounds, multiple characters etc. would be subject to making adjustments to that ballpark, of course. With any piece, I will do my best to provide an accurate estimate after discussing the particulars--if something seems liable to go over that initial estimate (discovered during the sketch stage, likely) I'll revisit it and try to work out an amenable approach to the rest.
I'd like to take a moment to once again thank everyone who has been so supportive and encouraging of me throughout this journey--it has really meant quite a bit to me on many levels and I greatly appreciate it! I am excited to see what lies ahead and how far I can take this progress to come!

Gift Draws & Freebies for Folks~ u<u
Posted 9 years agoHi hi hi~
Folks that might get this journal are probably by some measure bird watchers, peeking at this Magpie's submissions of commissioned art as well as personal drawings, commissions, and gifts! While I know a lot of folks are probably mostly watching this profile for the art I commission and upload, I do also appreciate that you've stuck around and followed along with me as I endeavor to improve and expand upon my own artistic ability. These past couple months have been tremendously encouraging as a learning experience with marked progress and I'm pretty excited about how far I've come.
So excited, in fact, that I would like to share some of that with you folks! I'm in the process of working on my fourth commission I've received (how exciting!) but afterward, I've also basically finished up the gift pieces I'd had in mind for my friends--and thought it might be fun and interesting to offer gift art to you!
For anyone who is interested in this bird's draws, I will do some freebie gift pieces--at least two, I think, but if I get on a roll who knows? I may work my way through a whole bunch of them! While I'll disclaimer that these are generally going to be free-form / winging it, I'll pretty likely go the full length of coloring + lighting and shading each piece, etc. (though probably not tackling any backgrounds, at least in this batch.) I'd also note that I would prefer to do drawings for folks I have not already drawn for, partly to help make sure that new folks get stuff. Maybe we'll even make some new friendships along the way--how exciting!
The details~
1) These are freebies, though if someone would like to send tips I accept them through http://cash.me/$oneflymagpie/ ; as this is a big hobby for me, I put any money I get from art back towards my drawing adventures (getting reference books, software, etc.)
2) I will intermittently stream while drawing, so if you'd like to follow along and peek too, that will be at https://picarto.tv/oneflymagpie
3) If you'd like to potentially receive a drawing from me, leave a reply to this journal with either a character ref or a link to a good description of your character; for bonus points, you can also share what your favorite kind of bird is. Note that I will probably stick to drawing for people I haven't drawn anything for yet.
4) These are likely going to be primarily single character pinups, though if several of you conspire to get something with your characters hanging out together I might tackle that too. You can note if you'd prefer your character to be clothed or naked, though I reserve that I may opt to toss some undies on you anyway, depending. u<u
5) Most of the common sense / general politeness and art etiquette terms apply: please don't turn around and sell something I draw, please credit me where you might post pieces, please be polite, etc.
6) I will probably not get to all of these, but I will try--and ones that don't get scooped up initially I may tackle as practice later on down the line. I appreciate folks being patient with a bird and hope that this mostly serves as a fun and enjoyable experience for us all. u<u

Daring Draws, Commissions (?!) & Derring-do!
Posted 10 years agoHello!
I figured it was about time that I got around to writing an actual journal entry about this sort of thing for the sake of putting the word out beyond just a submission description here and there. As a number of folks have probably gathered, I have been endeavoring a great deal to draw my tail-feathers off and pushing myself to learn and improve upon my art--to what I feel has been some pretty great momentum!
Along the way, I've gotten to where I am rather happy with what I'm capable of pulling off while continuing to challenge myself to new techniques, subjects and so on. For me, it has been very exciting--and I'm thankful for all the friends who have helped to support and encourage me along this little odyssey.
As well, I'm appreciative of the folks who have stuck with me and watched too--I can appreciate that a fair number of folk found their way to me primarily from my commissions of other artists for my characters originally (which admittedly is probably not going to change--I still have plenty of fun corroborating with other artists for all sorts of stuff!)
So! I intend to stay serious about my pursuit of drawing and bettering such--and while I mostly have been keeping myself busy drawing gifts for friends or my own characters, I was happy to also tackle what was my first commission recently ( Droc Guidera here http://www.furaffinity.net/view/18429745/ ) and have been nudged about doing other commissioned work.
While I don't have a full feel for a more official breakdown for such yet, I think I'm comfortable enough at this point that I'd like to tentatively open up a spot or two if there's anyone who would like to commission a piece from me. I'd love to tackle some characters for folks and generally speaking, taking on things that are new also make for a good educational go as well; what this means is that (within reason) if we're sussing a piece out on estimated time involved and I end up needing to take extra time for research, that generally won't be a major factor.
For reference: my Psy Chuan piece was about three and a half hours of work and the Droc Guidera piece was about eight--but a bit over two of those eight hours were wrapped up in learning wings, feathers, etc and applying them--so without the wings, I'd have been done with that one in closer to five; I worked with the commissioner off of the five instead.
At this time I'm open to discussing possible pieces for subject matter / complexity and working out an estimate for how involved it would be that is ideally comfortable for both of us. As an aside, regarding payment and the like: currently, I would be comfortable accepting / prefer transactions via Square Cash ( http://cash.me for the unfamiliar ) or possibly Amazon gift card as an alternative, would sort out sketches first. Tackling backgrounds, multiple participants, etc. are all possible--so really it's just down to overall potential complexity.
That's a lot of words, but if this is something you're interested in exploring, please by all means leave a comment or shoot me a note and I'd be happy to discuss something with you. In the meantime, thanks again to everyone who has kept me going and motivated, I really appreciate you all quite a bit!
