Fixed (a poorly written review)
Posted 3 weeks agodo you ever watch a movie that is so bad but has a fucking NUGGET of potential that it'll be living rent-free in your head for weeks?
so uh
I just watched Fixed.
spoilers ahead, if you care
This movie was... interesting, to say the least. The character designs are REALLY good and the characters themselves are very likeable. But holy FUCK the writing is so bad. There is like barely any actual plot going on, the pacing was god-awful, and so many scenes felt like padding. An antagonist was introduced 15 minutes into the film and then we don't see him again for a full 30 minutes. This movie DESPERATELY needed a B-plot. Like it would have been great if we could have gotten more of Honey and Sterling perhaps? But no we just got Bull and the gang dicking around the city for way too long before the writers remembered to move the plot along. So much of it feels like padding to the point that I wouldn't be surprised if this was originally a 45 minute TV-movie special that got stretched out.
The animation is a mixed bag, teetering on bad in a technical sense. Every single scene is incredibly smoothly animated which IS impressive in the sheer effort put into it, but it really dulls down a lot of the character's performance. A lot of scenes that needed quick and snappy movements instead felt sluggish because it was seemingly animated on 1's instead of 2's or 3's. Which is SUCH an amateur mistake to make thinking that more frames = better animation, I genuinely don't understand how anyone thought it was a good idea to animate the entire movie like that. My husband said that he thinks the voice acting was flat and bad, but I honest-to-god think a lot of the issue WAS because of the animation.
The cinematography was also incredibly flat, which really contributed to that TV-movie feel. There are some scenes that are literally just two talking heads for minutes at a time, and others that give off the vibe of a cartoon on TV, not a movie.
Some of the jokes got a snort or a good chuckle out of me, but the majority of them felt as if they were just dragging on and on and on and on. A lot of them also just didn't land for me, or got a good laugh but then were ruined by a character going "errmmm that just happened."
As I mentioned before I really like the characters. With how terrible the writing is, I'm surprised to find that there really isn't a character I truly dislike. Bull comes the closest, but that's mainly because he's just kinda a bumbling idiot that is annoying sometimes. I don't HATE him though. My favorite characters are Honey and Frankie. Sterling is also pretty fun in what little we get of him. Lucky and Frankie's relationship is pretty sweet as well. I really wish we got more of them together, but fuck that we needed a 5-hour long scene of nothing but cats meowing over and over again.
Overall 5/10 movie. Kinda a massive pile of shit but those kernels of gold in there has gotten me digging. I'm obsessed and you should watch this movie. I might draw some fanart at some point.
also i havent been online all day but i can smell the furry discourse a mile away. if you're gonna call me and/or anyone who watched, worked on, or liked this movie a "zoophile": log off twitter, go outside, and touch some grass.

Gettin radicalized yooooo
Posted 6 months agoHonestly, after decorating my Pokefarm "about me" section with a whole bunch of Postal art by an artist that allows their art to be used in whatever way you want, it really radicalized me to the idea of just. letting people do that.
Like I was already warming up to the idea before-hand (that's why none of my recent uploads have the whole "do not reupload" disclaimer) but now I'm just all for it. Using other peoples art and having your art get used is fucking awesome, actually. More people should get on this shit.

I Feel Yiffy
Posted 11 months agoWhen was the last time you heard that phrase? Or just the phrase "yiff" in general? Murr? Glomp? Scritches?
I came across a Bluesky post that made me realize this-- and it might just be the crowd that I'm hanging around-- but I feel like there is a lot of furry lingo I just don't see used much anymore. At least not unironically. Sure I might see "yiff" used as a hashtag here or there, but that's really it. It feels like it's nothing but a category now rather than an expression or a mood someone can say they feel.
I will sometimes find decades-old art on here filled with dozens and dozens of comments and go "Oh man, did we really use to talk like this?" But at the same time, why don't we talk like this anymore?
In my mind there are two main reasons for this. Cringe culture and the prevalence of social media. (Because everything has to be blamed on social media with me ;P)
Back in 2014-2016, cringe culture swept the internet. Everywhere you looked people were making fun of others just doing harmless crap, calling them "cringe" and putting them in various forms of compilations. This included furry-- from both the inside and out. I feel like a lot of people who grew up in this era might feel reluctant to use furry slang and lingo like this for fear of being judged and bullied for it. While writing this journal I realized that I fall under that same boat. I don't use these terms myself because somewhere, deep in my subconscious, I find them cringe. I shouldn't. They're completely harmless and fine to use. But I do.
As for social media, with everyone everywhere of all interests and opinions all using the same few websites, it is much easier for a "normie" to come across a furry using this lingo and shame them for it. It is so low-effort now to bully someone you see acting "strange" or "out of line". You don't gotta make an account, you're already here! And the reply button is right there.
Another component to this is that in the pre-"5 giant websites" internet, everyone was in their own little spaces. Each fandom had their own sites and forums that they flocked to, or BBSs, or Usenet groups, or gophers, or what have you. It was much easier to just talk exclusively to like-minded folks without outsiders gawking or harrassing you. Don't get me wrong, getting called "cringe" in one way or another both outside of and within your space still happened (hello Vanity Fair, hi Burned Furs) but it took a certain amount of effort to directly bully people online back then, and even just the slightest amount of effort filters a lot.
I really feel like these sorts of conditions fostered the use of unique slang and lingo within the fandom.
This isn't to say all fandom-specific slang is dead. We still use terms like "fursona" and "fursuit" every day. I don't see anyone within the fandom describing their fursuit as a "mascot costume" or fursona as a "personal animal avatar". But idk, while a lot of old terms seem to have faded out on their own (funny animal, yerf, personal furry, etc) I feel like there are a few that were more or less beaten out of us.
Stay yiffy my friends o/

Gonna start posting commissioned work
Posted 11 months agoI have commissioned so many things throughout the years but I just have never posted it here (despite having a folder for it??)
So I'm gonna start doing that.
I'll be posting it all to scraps as not to flood my main gallery.

Posted 11 months agoSo-Long Summer Furmeet was a SUCCESS!
Posted 12 months agoYesterday was the "So-Long Summer Furmeet" I hosted and the turnout and vibe far exceeded my expectations! :D
I am most definitely thinking of hosting more furmeets in the future. The whole inspiration behind this furmeet was because there was barely any cheap or free furmeets occuring in the Niagara region, so I wanted to help change that :)
Please stay tuned for any future meets I may hold, and I want to thank everyone who came to my first ever furmeet! ๐

Art Hiatus
Posted a year agoI am taking an official art hiatus. My art block has been absolutely awful as of late, and my wrist has been getting worse and worse. I think I really need to try to just give myself a break with no pressure to do any art for a while.
Commissions will be closed for now.

I want to work as a mascot SO BADLY
Posted a year agoI am foaming at the mouth I want to work as a mascot SO badly! It has been my dream job for ages but I just don't know how to break in! No one is hiring for mascots around me right now. I'm honestly so tempted to just buy a bootleg Bluey mascot and freelancing at birthday parties or something ๐ญ
Have any of you worked as a mascot before? If so, where and how?

Made a Webpage for my Cat!
Posted a year agohttps://onemillionfurries.com/opie/
You WILL look at my cat.
I'm pretty proud of this! It's been a while since I coded any webpages from scratch, so this was really fun! Will probably update the gallery in the future with more cat pics XD
Not really mobile-friendly, so be warned!

The Lion King Old Web Finds
Posted a year ago[Prev]
Edit: It seems like FA doesn't like web.archive links?? So I'll just be pasting the raw link underneath each section.
Hello hello! I am back again to share with you some old web findings! Today's gonna be The Lion King themed because that's what I ended up doing a dive on :P
Before we officially start: I wanted to quickly share this gif which kicked off this whole journey. I randomly came across it while browsing Melonland's Museum of Modern Gifs and it quite tickled me! It's supposed to be a redraw of Vitani holding a lit stick in her jaws, but the use of that stock explosion gif for the fire is hilarious! No shade at all to the artist who made this. There was absolutely no way to know that this stock explosion gif would become a meme 20 years later, and the subtle flickering of light on her fur is genuinely really well done! It's just... wow I feel lucky coming across this gif among the nearly 100,000 gifs randomly appearing on that site!
Anyways, on to today's findings!
(Note: Unlike last time, some of these sites aren't around anymore. Unfortunately. They are all preserved on the Wayback Machine and found through searching "TLK" on GifCities.)
~~~~~
The Lion King MIDIs
https://web.archive.org/web/2009102.....tlk/page4.html
You heard that right! MIDIs! If you don't know, MIDIs are a file format where, instead of saving a direct recording of whatever sound/song you want, instead they save the information on what notes to play. This takes significantly less space than a WAV, MP3, or MPEG file format, however the results are... well, you can hear that for yourself :P
Unfortunately only three out of the eight available MIDIs were archived and available for download, those being: We are One, Be Prepared, and Hakuna Matata. Be Prepared honestly has an interesting take on the song, and Hakuna Matata has the "When he was a young warthog" bit in it. That's neat. I do wish The Circle of Life was archived too, but alas :(
The rest of the site isn't that interesting unfortunately? None of the full size images or fan art got archived, and neither did the home page interestingly enough. I am very glad this did though!
~~~~~
Nalaholics Anonymous
For all you Nala fans out there!
It is hosted on LionKing.org like a few others on this list. You could see a good handful of fan art and writings in the N.A.T.C. page, along with a quite entertaining "First Time Visitors" page. Unfortunately the fan art breaks at the cute art of Nala standing on Simba's head :( Quite a shame. I really wanted to see that pic!
Bonus: While browsing this site, I came across meeko.org, which is also still around! I have yet to do a deep dive into this site, but it is quite charming!
~~~~~
Scar
A Scar-centric fan-site! Found this one while writing this journal, actually. That's a problem I have. I say I'm going to sit down to write this, I open the pages I want to write about, and then I end up finding 50 other pages I wanna include! I started this at 11pm, and it's now 1am as of writing! What a nightmare XD But at the same time, that's what I love about these old sites. You can really go down a rabbit hole, link after link after link just exploring people's pages. That's not something you really get anymore on the social media web, y'know? Sure you can find people through hashtags and algorithms, but there's really not a sense of adventure or really much individuality. Everyone gets a banner, an icon, and a little description to work with. A place to put links too if you're lucky, but with that you end up just linking to yourself elsewhere. Sure some sites allow you to reshare other people's work, but you go to their profile and it's all exactly the same. Maybe some different types of posts, but in the end it's just.... the same. Same layout. Same character limitations. Same information... Same everything!! Honestly finding these older websites and letting myself explore them feels like I'm some captive animal being let out into the wild for the first time in years. Just bounding out into a vast, open savanna and letting myself get lost for the first time. Like, wow, you mean to tell me that there is more to this world than just my tiny, cramped-up pen?
...
Uh, where was I again? OH RIGHT! A Scar fan site. I really enjoy the misc page here. Seeing that totally decked-out bedroom is honestly almost inspiring to how I wanna decorate my room when I move. Just Faust absolutely everywhere :P (Except good luck to me on actually finding any Faust/Dr. Baldhead merch! LOL) I also find it really cool how these sites have a fan art section, but it's rarely of JUST the webmaster's art, if at all! I was about to say that it's kind of weird how people use to do that instead of just making their own sites but... well, I guess that's kinda just a precursor to art sites like FA and DA, huh? And I supposed it made sense at the time. Not every artist out there had the skill or the time to make a website, so why not submit it to an already existing one!
Vitani's Heaven
https://web.archive.org/web/2009050.....ng.org/~akela/
Last but certainly not least, we have Vitani's Heaven! Probably my absolute favorite site on this list, not only for the fact that it has a whole lot of stuff, but also for the fact that it's just so well archived! I'm so used to websites like this being so barren with broken images and links everywhere, but no! This one is nearly fully in tact! I haven't tested all the download links, but from what few I HAVE tried, they worked!
Side tangent: OH MY GOD I just clicked Pictures > Gif Images and you'll never guess what I found... It's the Vitani explosion gif from the beginning!!! I finally have a source on this! Thank you Silka, wherever you are now, for sending me down this little adventure!
Anyways, there is just SO much to do and see on this website and it's so delightful to look at! Have I mentioned that yet? It's an absolute treat to the eyes. Honestly the theming threw me off at first, and I had to double check whether or not Vitani died in the original movie! (She did not.) But once I got over that, it was almost comforting in a weird way? The little cub Vitani lounging in the clouds on the navigation bar made me smile, and the gif of her with flapping wings on the home page is cute!
The links page is also just absolutely FULL of wonderful pages to explore! Please, if you have never explored the internet before social media, I am BEGGING you to click on some of these links and just visit whatever seems interesting! If after exploring a website you notice that it has a "links" page, click on that too and start looking through those! Please! The web is SO much more than just Google, 5 social media apps, and YouTube. And it can be so much fun to adventure out there and see what you could find!
...
It's 2am. No one is gonna see this OTL
Edit: It seems like FA doesn't like web.archive links?? So I'll just be pasting the raw link underneath each section.
Hello hello! I am back again to share with you some old web findings! Today's gonna be The Lion King themed because that's what I ended up doing a dive on :P
Before we officially start: I wanted to quickly share this gif which kicked off this whole journey. I randomly came across it while browsing Melonland's Museum of Modern Gifs and it quite tickled me! It's supposed to be a redraw of Vitani holding a lit stick in her jaws, but the use of that stock explosion gif for the fire is hilarious! No shade at all to the artist who made this. There was absolutely no way to know that this stock explosion gif would become a meme 20 years later, and the subtle flickering of light on her fur is genuinely really well done! It's just... wow I feel lucky coming across this gif among the nearly 100,000 gifs randomly appearing on that site!
Anyways, on to today's findings!
(Note: Unlike last time, some of these sites aren't around anymore. Unfortunately. They are all preserved on the Wayback Machine and found through searching "TLK" on GifCities.)
The Lion King MIDIs
https://web.archive.org/web/2009102.....tlk/page4.html
You heard that right! MIDIs! If you don't know, MIDIs are a file format where, instead of saving a direct recording of whatever sound/song you want, instead they save the information on what notes to play. This takes significantly less space than a WAV, MP3, or MPEG file format, however the results are... well, you can hear that for yourself :P
Unfortunately only three out of the eight available MIDIs were archived and available for download, those being: We are One, Be Prepared, and Hakuna Matata. Be Prepared honestly has an interesting take on the song, and Hakuna Matata has the "When he was a young warthog" bit in it. That's neat. I do wish The Circle of Life was archived too, but alas :(
The rest of the site isn't that interesting unfortunately? None of the full size images or fan art got archived, and neither did the home page interestingly enough. I am very glad this did though!
Nalaholics Anonymous
For all you Nala fans out there!
It is hosted on LionKing.org like a few others on this list. You could see a good handful of fan art and writings in the N.A.T.C. page, along with a quite entertaining "First Time Visitors" page. Unfortunately the fan art breaks at the cute art of Nala standing on Simba's head :( Quite a shame. I really wanted to see that pic!
Bonus: While browsing this site, I came across meeko.org, which is also still around! I have yet to do a deep dive into this site, but it is quite charming!
Scar
A Scar-centric fan-site! Found this one while writing this journal, actually. That's a problem I have. I say I'm going to sit down to write this, I open the pages I want to write about, and then I end up finding 50 other pages I wanna include! I started this at 11pm, and it's now 1am as of writing! What a nightmare XD But at the same time, that's what I love about these old sites. You can really go down a rabbit hole, link after link after link just exploring people's pages. That's not something you really get anymore on the social media web, y'know? Sure you can find people through hashtags and algorithms, but there's really not a sense of adventure or really much individuality. Everyone gets a banner, an icon, and a little description to work with. A place to put links too if you're lucky, but with that you end up just linking to yourself elsewhere. Fun Fact About AI Adoptables
Posted a year agoSince AI art can't be copyrighted because it's not made by a human, all AI adoptables you see on Deviantart are completely free for the taking. Doesn't matter if it costs $1 or $1000. It's free. Public domain.
Hello my name is Dr. Luvstruk and my hobbies include:
Posted a year ago- Finding old-ass personal sites of furries (or furry-adjacent people)
-
-
Anyways I created this journal so that I could share some findings from today. I will often go around looking for some still-surviving old-ass sites and I needed SOMEWHERE to post them where people might see! I may update this more in the future. Who knows.
~~~~~
Sandaga's Neopet Gallery
This was my first find of the day, and what a charming one! Such a minimalist site that shows off all the art quite well! I especially enjoy the Eryie page. It's clear just how much the artist loves this species just by the way they are drawn. Such energetic poses, and the inking is fantastic! I hope wherever that artist is today, they're having a great time :]
~~~~~
FurryFox (eyestrain warning)
The web page of a man named Benjamin. This is a very simple site that shows off all the art his various friends made of his kitsune fursona, along with a page dedicated to his Secret of NIMH OC, David Levine. I really wish that the fanfiction sites were archived, because I would have loved to read the adventures David had!
~~~~~
Timduru (eyestrain warning)
Okay, this one isn't one that I found today. I found it a year or two back honestly. But I just needed to share it with others 'cause I love it so much!
Timduru is a TLK + Balto fan-site that has been around since at least 1997. Which is insane. This site is older than I am! It features pages for TLK, TLK 2, Balto, and some oooooold fursuit photos. That part of the site is definitely my favorite. It's always so cool to take a look at the past and see these old suits!
I also find the design of the site itself quite interesting, with each page having it's own tiled background of a character that got blasted with Photoshop Magicโข. From what I understand at the time websites didn't usually have different .HTML and .CSS pages. It was all included in a single HTML page. So it was very common at the time for webmasters to include some sort of unique CSS for each page they made. 'Cause it was all right there! Why just copy-paste the CSS when you could get ~*creative*~. This leads to a style of web design that you really don't see at all anymore, even within the Web Revival movement.
I actually did a brief search earlier here on FA and it turns out that Timduru is still very much active in the fandom! And after a quick Google just now... turns out he is quite influential to the fandom, creating the website The Fursuit Database and hosting Wikifur! Tbh it would be neat to chat with him sometime about all this stuff, but MAN I'm way too shy!
~~~~
Anyways that's all for now! Again I'll probably be filling this journal up with more links in the future. Or I may just put a page up showcasing this stuff on my own website! The combination of furry history + history of the web is just smashing two of my special interest together and MAN! I can just search for this stuff all day!
I hope you enjoyed reading this! I'd love to hear any of your guys' thoughts on these websites ^^
Kinda baffled by new FA users
Posted a year agoOk does anyone else find it kind of odd when people put on their profile "I post 18+ art do NOT follow me if you're a minor I WILL block you" because like... FA has a nsfw filtering system? Like if you're properly flagging your art as mature/adult then minors SHOULDN'T be seeing it??
I remember when I was a kid following an artist that I really liked but getting a bit sad because they seemed to only post only once a year or so.... Seemed to being the key phrase here XD
IDK, on a site like FA the whole "only follow if adult" shit really feels more performative than functional. I barely remember seeing anything like this when I was a kid, which is why I specified new FA users in the title. I'm not saying that only new users do this, but I do know that this trend comes from social media users who use sites with no proper maturity filter for their porn.
If you're one of the people who do this and are really worried about kids bypassing the maturity filter to view your art, you should also be worried about kids just... lying about their age on their profile. It is laughably easy just to put "Age: 18" on your profile as a minor and follow all the 18+ accounts you want. You will never ever know the true age of someone you meet online unless you are staring them in-person in the face and have their real official government-issued ID. And that's a GOOD thing! Privacy on the internet is GOOD! ESPECIALLY for children! A child who lies about or doesn't share their age/the fact that theyre a minor online is infinitely safer than one that does.
(P.S... Don't fucking ask to see people's IDs in order to follow you/get into your 18+ Discord or whatever. That is so incredibly mind-bogglingly unsafe and you do NOT have the training in order to properly handle those documents.)
MOVING NSFW ART HERE
Posted 3 years agoIf you didn't know I drew NSFW/fetish art and had an alternative account for that, uhh... Sorry! If you wanna see any of that, it's currently uploaded here BigCatCake
But anyways, I'll be starting to upload my NSFW/fetish art here because it's pretty redundant to have two seperate accounts for all that. It's also harder to manage.
Will start with some re-uploads of some stuff rhat I'm particularly proud if, then go from there! <3
