Posted 14 years ago2 Dawn of the Dead 2s.....2 o.0...zombies
Posted 14 years agoSo from what i understand in the recent zombie circles is that there will be two, that is 2 dawn of the dead squeals. Richard Rubinstein, the producer to the original Romero masterpiece said that he has begun work on a squeal to the said movie, unrelated to Day of the Dead. This movie will be titles, Dawn of the Dead 2. He is in talks with Tony Todd to play the role of Peter, so if this goes through we may actually get to see what happened to the last two survivors that fled the mall at the end of the movie. Also, Zack Snyder stated that he would be producing a sequel to his Dawn of the dead Remake. titles Army of the Dead. I honestly don't know how to feel about these movies. Also The Walking Dead, the show based on one of the best Comic series ever! will be returning this October....who is watching?

Captain America review (Spoilers)
Posted 14 years agoCaptain America
Now i will be the first to say that i am a "Casual" Marvel fan. I don't follow what happens in the Marvel Universe as closely as i follow DC, however i do like the Avengers and through them i met Captain America. Created by art master Jack Kirby and writer Joe Simon, Captain America or "Cap" to his friends, was one of many in the big super hero boom of the golden age of comics, original published by Timely Comics in 1941. However like so few such as Batman, he had no great powers other then enhanced human attributes given to him through genetic engineering. The Movie started off with an Arctic expedition team (Reason for being there not explained.) that stumbles across a find buried in the ice. An old large plan from the Second world war, inside they uncover a lone individual, scrapping away an ice covered star spangled shield.
The rest of the story is told through flashback with a skinny and pathetic looking Steve Rodgers trying what is once of several times to enlist into the army, but was rejected for several medical and physical reason every time. After attempting once again at a world fair he catches the attention of a former German scientist who is working on the secret super soldier program and is more interested in his character rather his physical ability. When offered a change to join, Rodgers jumps at the opportunity to serve. Through out the training he continually impresses those around him with his determination and honorable ways. I found that the movie followed "cap's" origin story pretty well, and the evolution of his suit was pretty amazing to watch. The fight scenes are well done and i enjoyed to mix between 1940's and alien like tech used by hydra.
I don't want to get into to many details about the story, cuz you should really see it yourself but it is pretty detailed in Captain America lore. I would go as far to say that it is the best Marvel movie thus far, but i say that with a hint of bias. I like Captain America for the same reason i like Superman, i love their golden age sensibilities but leading influence to other heroes, and shier power. I would highly recommend this movie to any comic book movie fan, they just seem to be getting better for me. Go see it!
Green Lantern review (spoilers) and news
Posted 14 years agoYeah so the green lantern movie was pretty good. At least I enjoyed it and my friend did as well. That being said, i am a green lantern fan, more so Alan Scott then Hal but i do like the Corps. and i enjoy the Lantern Mythos. There was a lot of people in the theatre for a movie that apparently sucked. there seems to be a split down the middle, most of the good reviews and opinion about the movie seem to come from the comic fan camp, that is to say, from people who actually understand what they are watching. The negative come from people whom just don't know what their looking at, or as the media seems to enjoy saying "The hero nobody knows about" .....Right media -.-. So the movie is an Origin story, the story of the first human to serve in the Green Lantern Corps., Hal Jordan. For the most part, they do a pretty good job at sticking to the source materiel, I think WB is doing a better job at lifting from existing talents instead of getting some Hollywood know nothing to screw it up.....they are learning guys, they ARE learning.
They get the story largely correct and there are even nods to future developments, as this IS supposed to be the first of a trilogy. Hal and Carol Farris love hate relationship, the fact that she is a fighter jock and not some love interest. Ever her fighter call sign "Sapphire" was a nod to the fact that she will become a Star Sapphire. (I don't know if that is true in a future movie.) And the creation of the first fear power ring which i have no doubt will serve as the platform for the conflict between Hal and Sinestro. Now the only two things that i have noted, that was changed for the sake of the movie. Hector Hammond didn't get his powers through the yellow power of fear but from the radiation from Abin Sur's crashed ship and Hal's encounter with the fear incarnate beast Parallax went very differently, but turned around as it was, it was still an entertaining story and had good action.
I would as far to say that the movie was very comparable to Batman Begins, but nowhere near as awesome as the Dark Knight.
News
Sorry about the lack of updates of Earth Science, my scanner has been down and i have been drawing page 9 completely digitally, from scratch, which is simply not something i am used to. Also i have been doing a little writing again and i have begun plotting some stories.
That is all, end communication o.o

The greatest zombie game ever!!!
Posted 15 years ago Before your dicks start twitching no, there is no such game, at least to my knowledge. However I have been giving this some serious thought. Why is it in this day and age that there is no good zombie games? I mean REALLY good zombie games. Allow me to elaborate. Using the examples of Resident evil and Left 4 dead the two most well known if not popular. Have you noticed that in ANY zombie game, you don't have to follow the most basic of zombie rules? The first one that comes to mind is, shoot them in the head. Now in older games, graphics and hit detection did not allow for such accuracies, but in first person shooters like L4D and the new Resident Evil controls that allow you to place what you want, where you want, there really is no excuse.
Now the first rebuttal that might come to mind is that the infested in RE4 and 5 are not really zombies and that they are better then zombies. Well no, in game cut scenes give you the illusion that they are smart and work together, but in an actual fight they are no more combat effective then an angry mob nothing a multitude of ammo and brains won't fix. Another argument would be that zombies are slow and dumb and would be easy to take care of, and I would say, yes, the five zombies in an other wise deserted street would not be a problem. However I don't want to talk about older games, I want to talk about making a realistic and GOOD zombie game.
The idea I have for a zombie game would be to make it like a hybrid of Fallout 3, GTA 4, MGS4. What do I mean? I want a massive landscape, a small city with its shopping mall and burning or smashed office and apartment buildings., with its suburbs, family homes, back yard pools, a multitude of garages and unused cars. and rural areas with there farm houses, barns, even a large prison. (this is possible, its just takes some fucking guts to make it.) The main character (you) would be completely customizable and his or her attributes would affect what you were capable of in the game world. There would be those who know how to operate military grade weapons and have hand to hand combat skills, and there would be those that know how to pick locks and hot wire cars (other wise, you better find the keys.) Knowing how to cook or even read a map could help you out a lot too. Anything you can think off that could help make one unique.
I think with the exception of the main character (or characters because we want a multiplayer right?) There would be pockets of survivors, or communities held up in different places trying to weather the zombie apocalypse. You would run into people would are just trying to survive with their humanity intact, you might run into people who would otherwise not trust you, or knock you out and throw you into a gladiator ring with zombies for their twisted new world amusement. (Thank you,The Walking Dead) You might run into people who have run out of food and turned cannibal ready to shoot loan travelers, the zombies might not be your only problem with gun toting rednecks and cannibal hillbillies!
Now lets talk about the zombies, zombies exhibit different characteristics, there are those who will pursue even the smallest noise they come across, and there are those who will wait for something to come to them. Zombies travel from lone shamblers to massive mobs of hundreds or even thousands, once one zombie sees another zombie going for something it causes a domino affect that would lead to swarms. What does one call a large group of zombies? A mob? A heckle of zombies? Do they herd? I know......a Murder....its a murder of zombies -.-
Zombies will largely walk, but the fresher the faster, from a slow jog to a brisk run. There will be zombies that are forced to crawl do to the lack of leg power, or simply the lack of legs, making them perfect ambushers hiding in tall grass, unkempt lawns and underneath cars. Guns would largely be ineffective, except for a brain damaging head shot, a system like the V.A.T.S. From Fallout would help the player in this. Things like chest shots would do nothing but to either stall or knock them down but they would get back up, leg or knee shots would bring them down to a crawl, possibly causing those following to trip over them buying you escape time.
Different threat zones would exist, there would be a few zombies out on the farms, but you would be worried about getting shot by red necks. (with the possibility of a Murder of zombies passing through on the harder difficulties.) The suburbs would be crawling with the undead, unfortunate families, children and all. (an aspect that could be used to influence the character in a negative way.) The down town city streets and highways would be thick with hundreds of them. At no point in the game would you ever have the bullets to go duke nukem on them, one would be forced to think and choose when it is appropriate to fight or run.
The the guns and ammo would be dependent one where this game takes place. (America seems to be the first thought.) No more of this finding boxes of bullets just laying around in nonsense places, I don't care how right wing the city is, your not finding an A.K. and ammo in the local Denny's. Never mind the fact that not all handguns are chambered for 9mm but do you know how hard it is to load a 15 round semi-auto pistol in an intense moment from a box of loose ammo. One should need to find clips to make a fight easier, also the correct bullets! You might find something in the truck of some person that owned a gun, or you might need to look through cop cars, or rifle ranges. It might do well to establish contact with some......militia gun nut group that will barter for guns and bullets.
Also, no more of this magic healing spray, you should be able to find would you need anywhere to help yourself. Morphine, adrenaline, bandages, stitching wire, even duct tape at any pharmacy, first aid kit in a home hardware, clinic or hospital. If you get bitten, game over, you turn and die, but the game would have to provide a multitude of ways to prevent this, from armor to defensive moves also it would make it very clear that the game does not tolerate heroes.....or gun toting douches.
I have no idea what the story would be like in such a game, but it would have to be a sandbox game, I want to ignore shit and do what I want, I want to be a survivalist and live in my safe house or secure safe haven in one of the communities, who might take you in depending on your Karma or reputation.
Well this is all I can really think of now but I encourage discussion and additions. Lets talk about this, what would be the greats zombie game!.

Resident Evil fun
Posted 15 years agoI know i haven't been writing for some time so i thought i would share something with everyone that might be interesting to you zombie and resident evil fans. http://www.dailyscript.com/scripts/.....il_romero.html This link is to the original script of the first resident evil movie written by George A Romero himself. I haven't read all of it myself but it is my understanding that it was rejected for both being to much like the game and too violent. What could have been huh?
Gunbuster: The movie (anime review)
Posted 15 years ago For those who do not know, Aim for the Top! Gunbuster is a 1988 six episode OVA (Original video animation) of the Super Robo and Space Opera sub genres by Gainax Company, Limited, and to be honest one of my all time favorites, i mean this show was amazing in story telling, characters, the voice acting was powerful and the art was at times beautiful.
The story revolved around a young girl named Noriko Takaya who's father was an admiral in the Imperial space navy who went missing after an attack by giant insectiod creatures that are only known as Uchuu Kaijuu (Space monsters) that travel in clusters or swarms ranging from thousands to billions. We follow her as she tries and succeeds in fulfilling her dream in becoming a space pilot and joining her father among the stars. The show was great with details in hard science fiction (That is three parts theoretical/ plausible/ fact) and took many inspirations from novels like Robert A. Heinlein's Starship troopers and author Joe Haldeman's Forever War with the show's depiction of time dilation. (That is time passing slower then earths aboard sub-lightspeed star ships.) The character Noriko experiences 6 months of combat duties on board the star ship Exilion only to arrive to find 9 years have passed. This Hit her hard when she meets up with her "old" high school friend that is now a full fledged adult with a kid of her own while the other was just as surprised meeting her 17 year old friend after so many years.
Another cool feature is the evolution of human technology, ranging from first generation battleships where they are small and officers read paper read outs like a stock market machine, to the 3rd generation battleship Exilion, that had a monorail system for crews to get about, laser canons and photon torpedo's and then the 5th generation battleship Eltrium a 70km long ship with a new Warp drive, psychic dolphins, 3D computer displays and glowing hover platforms for personal transport. Also Buster machine #3 a black hole bomb that is easily the size of the moon.
Two fun facts about the show, the title is derived from two other titles that were faved by the creators. Aim for the Ace, a tennis anime. (Which i have no experience with so cant say if its that good.) and the 1986 movie Top Gun. Gunbuster was also the first anime to animate ^.^ jiggle boobs. That is so common in most anime today. The technique to animate boobs is anime jargon is often called the Gainax bounce (Named after the company) or the Bust Gunner (Named after the show.) The show was not without its flaws however, the last episode being almost completely in monochrome and the last battle being a montage of stills cleverly edited together. This was because the company was running out of money, but the editing saved the show and the company would go on to make such epics like Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water, Neon Genesis Evangelion and FLCL (Fooly Cooly). To celebrate their 20th anniversary they produced an official sequel to the show that kicked them off the ground titled. Aim for the Top 2! Diebuster. and later in 2008 to celebrate the 20th birthday of Gunbuster they released a re-edited Gunbuster in a 95min movie on Blue ray and that brings us here.
Positive:
The movie, for lack of a better word was great, i had no complaints, in fact i truly enjoyed the fact that they took the time to hunt down and gather the original cast to re voice their work from 20 years ago. I just loved Noriko Hidaka voice of Noriko in the original, the sheer power she brought to the character in combat was to me, amazing for a Japanese voice actress, and she rocks even harder 20 years later, you can easily tell she brings her experiences with her, and the same could be said for all the other voice actors. All of the sound effect were redone or cleaned up making clear and amazing, and im not sure but i think the songs were redone as well. I really wished i had surround sound.
Neutral:
The movie's story seemed rushed to me, however because i might be bias this is a neutral aspect. As an owner of the original OVA and continual watcher im well aware of the information and scenes missing in the movie. This may not be experienced by someone who did not see the original show, which is up to $50 by the way.
Negative:
I am very disappointed in the lack of special features on the Blue ray, here you have a 50 gig disk with minimal on it. The show had a science lesson after each episode that talked about the fun facts of the Gunbuster universe. And the VHS version also included extra clips of unknown characters participating in training session that you don't see the main characters do and battles all for the sake of extra content. All a no show. I would have loved to see interviews and commentaries from the original cast and what have you. It wasn't until later that i discovered that a box set Gunbuster v.s. Diebuster was released in a 3 BD set, with Gunbuster: the movie, Diebuster: the movie and all the special features on one disc including interviews. I was very sour about that as i already own the Diebuster show i had no intention on getting all that again.
At any rate the movie was good, but the show was better. It would be great if you want to watch something that doesn't take 3 hours to finish and its would be good if you want to introduce it to someone without going through the 6 episodes of the show. The lack of extras was a turn off and didn't make the $35 price tag acceptable but like i said the show was bumped up to $50 so good luck if you want it. Perhaps with a little hard work and guts they will one day release an even better version.
If you would like other anime reviews, or horror movie reviews, please say so, i would be happy to share what i know.

Dragon age and Left 4 dead 2 (my thoughts)
Posted 16 years agoDragon age
I really got nothing to say about this one, its really good if you enjoy the rpg games. If you have the hours, then this is your game. I only really have one complaint, and thats with the “sex” and I quote the “sex” cuz it is and it isn't. I give the game developers kudos for trying something.....otherwise risky for the western hemisphere, but really? You gotta keep the underwear on? Its like trying to watch the Sopranos during day time tv. “eeeehhh you dont know what your talking about. Forget you!.- forget me! NO, forget you!” Any kind of mood they tried to make just gets sucked right out of the room. This is a great time waister 9/10
Left 4 dead 2
Well, im guessing a lot of people think I'm going to have high praise for this game, but....not so much. Lets get the negative out of the way...............ITS THE SAME GOD DAMN GAME! You know, they could have easily made the maps....the new zombies and weapons and even extra characters as DLC. The whole game is nothing more then a glorified expansion pack, but im not dumb enough to pay $60+ for an expansion pack, and with the exception the game has little replay value, except with the hard core zombie fans. That being said the game is fun none the less, it was great at recreating the atmosphere of the first game which in turn was great at imitating the atmosphere of great zombie movies. Now the biggest piss off about Left 4 dead 2 is not the game itself but steam. Fucking steam, these people.....this program.....this....thingamafucker does not need to EXIST!, games have worked fine both on and off line without it.
Twice now I have been kicked off the game in the middle of play with no explanation other then. “ Left 4 dead 2 has stopped working.” why? What the fuck? And when I try to get back on. “Steam is not working.” Keep in mind I don't play it online. If that wasn't enough I got kicked off a third time with the window. “You have been disconnected.” …......disconnected from fucking what!? I wasn't even online! Now...valve is to blame for this so I think it would be NICE if companies should employ REAL programmers, you know so their product is at least worth having, which by the way....you have no choice....bitch! Left 4 dead 2......fun to play through, not worth what their asking for 5/10.
I really got nothing to say about this one, its really good if you enjoy the rpg games. If you have the hours, then this is your game.
Wii Kama Sutra?

Top Ten Zombie movies part 2
Posted 16 years ago#5.Night of the living dead(1990): Directed by Tom Savini is probably the only worth while remake of the cult classic. It follows the same story as the original and Savini does a great job at keeping it fresh while traditional. As a war photographer in is early days he was in the perfect position in doing some great special effects and make up for his movie, and followed the old credo of violence being greater off screen. Along with a new look Savini allowed the main heroine evolve into a fighting woman after suffering a laps from losing her brother and the shock of what was happening, Tony Todd was the perfect Ben, a lone survivor that finds his way out to the old farm house in the hopes of finding someplace safe. The movie is only complemented be recreating the sense of isolation and internal fighting from the original film between Ben and Cooper who have hidden with his family in the basement.
#4. Day of the Dead(1985): The 3rd film made by zombie master George A. Romero is a movie about how the failure of communication can cause disaster in a small society. The story follows a group of survivors thrown together in an underground bunker during the last days when the government still had some power left. The group is made up of military and scientist charged with finding a solution to a problem that has since enveloped the world. This is your classic jocks v.s. Nerds, high school situation and to compound this, there is only one woman among the survivors, after years you can only imagine the tension between the two groups. The tension is felt indeed with the meetings they have, the soldiers are continuously risking their lives to gather “specimens” from the surface so the scientist can study them and figure things out. Some seek to cure them, while one eccentric nick named “Frankenstein.” wants to train them to teach them to behave themselves, seeking out the zombie's learning ability.
Entre Bud, a zombie with a learning curb, and more important he doesn't seem to act aggressive toward Frankenstein. The reason why is that he feeds Bud, the zombies obedience forged like a dog, and to the horror of the soldiers he is being fed the only fresh meat around, the recently kill soldiers. The soldiers freak out and turn on the scientist and a lot of killing ensues. This is not the most popular of the Romero films but it is his favorite, and as a person who can see why, I enjoy it as well.
#3. Return of the Living Dead(1985) This film directed by Dan O' Bannon who is more famous for writing the script for the 1979 sci-fi horror, Alien. Made this movie as a dark humor horror, in an effort to not compete with Romero instead going his own way, the film was based on the novel Return of the living dead by John A. Russo. (co-writer of Night of the Living Dead) The movie was the first showcase new yet famous zombie traits to this day. Return was the first movie to depict running zombies and their desire to feast on brains instead of flesh, and they could talk. The actors spent some seven weeks just practicing together so their performances are just excellent and fluid like real conversations. Since the story was parodied in my Return of the Sex Zombie story I don't feel the need to write about it. It is a very cool movie, and original in its own right. really worth seeing.
#2. Dawn of the Dead(1979): The second film of Romero's dead series had an interesting start. After Night of the living dead Romero and Russo were divided on how to continue the story. Russo wanted to pursue literature work while Romero wanted to keep making movies. Well the argument was brought to court and it was decided that the two would go different ways, all of Romero's work would only be called Dead, he would go on to make Dawn of the Dead and Russo could hold onto Living Dead, and he would go on to make Return of the Living Dead (the novel) and plague of the living Dead(comic). Dawn of the Dead is about a group of four survivors who steal a helicopter and escape Philadelphia, they make their way to Monroville mall in Pittsburgh one of the first malls ever build, then called an indoor shopping centre.
The first half of the movie is our heroes efforts to secure and lock up the mall while loosing one of their own, after achieving their goal they find themselves becoming depressed and isolated from the outside world despite having everything they could ever want. As time passes by the indication of the pregnant surviver (becoming bigger and bigger) it becomes increasingly quite outside, tv and radio signals slowly but surely disappear leaving our heroes wondering if at all civilization still exists outside their walls. The movie has a strong message about materialism the old saying, “money and things don't make you happy.” is driven home very well. Soon enough materialism becomes a battle when the mall becomes the object of desire of a roaming biker gang (Tom Savini's first appearance in the zombie genre). Dawn of the Dead was arguably Romero's master piece in social satire and has an awesome comic book like feel to it, the makeup was not as good as later zombie movies but you will likely forget about it and just enjoy its greatness.
#1. Night of the living Dead (1968). There were many zombie movie even before this such as “White zombie” staring Bela Lugosi. “Teenage Zombies” and “The Really Really Strange People who Died and Became zombies” *sighs* but all really had nothing to do with the zombie we know and love today, mostly these were the voodoo kind. Originally titles “Night of the Flesh Eaters.” The movie is full of Romero's usual social satire that makes his work popular. The story is about a group of survivors who would likely never be together are thrown together to defending themselves against the increasing number of murderous ghouls outside. Romero made this to reflect the current global isolation felt by the west while communist regimes spread across the world. At least this is how the government made us feel. To compound the tensions of claustrophobia was some serious infighting between the two lead males, Ben (Duane Jones ) and Harry Cooper (Karl Hardman) Hardmen played a great asshole and it was easy not to like him while Jones had the honor of playing one of, if not the first lead black role in a horror movie and he wears it well in the film. The two characters get into fights, verbal and then physical while the undead is scratching at the doors and windows.
Soon they find a Tv and find out that this isn't just happening around them, but across the country, apparently a NASA prob was returning to earth, they found a strange radiation clinging to the prob and the opted to self destructed it. The radiation was scattered across the atmosphere and now the bodies of the recently deceased are returning to life and attacking the living. This is the only explanation and the only time it is given, leaving younger fans to think it is some sort of virus. I wont give away the rest of the movie but something interesting did happen about it. When the movie was premiering word had gotten out about the Martin Luther King Jr.'s assassination and Romero and Russo scrambled to sell the movie because despite having a great black lead, Ben struck Barbra to snap some sense into her and was later shot in the head by zombie hunters. Fearing this might be misconstrued as racist they tried to get ride of it. However they only held the copy rights to the original title and to their surprise the film lapsed into public domain upon distribution. Regardless, Night of the living Dead remain the highest grossing film ever made. (How much it took to make it v.s. How much money was spent buying it.) and it made George A. Romero a god father in the horror genre. Spawned five sequels and countless remakes, knock offs and influenced others. Simply put, movies like Shaun of the dead and the Resident evil franchise would not exist without this movie. As of October 2 2008, it was the second most downloaded movie on the internet, that speaks volumes of this cult classics staying power and the reason why its the number one zombie movie.
I would like to thank everyone that read this and I hope it was educational and created interest in a genre that sparked my own small popularity on the FA. I know leave you with a little dance music http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uYC2s38vCbw

Top Ten Zombie movies part 1
Posted 16 years ago Oh my god! he's alive! *lighting bolt* Hello everyone and happy Octoberween, I have some pictures in the works but in the mean time, i want to share something with you. At some point during this month of months there will be lots of zombie movies playing im sure, i would like to lend a helping hand to those that are interested, i tried to be honest and hopefully it will peak some interests. Don't forget to check out the kick ass song at the end of the list.
#10. Children of the Living Dead (2001): Arguable not the worst zombie movie but the worst of this top ten, the story is one of many direct unofficial sequels to the cult classic Night of the Living Dead. The only redeeming feature is the fact John A. Russo is executive producer, the co-writer of Night of the Living Dead. The movie starts where Night leaves off, bands of hill billies, farmers and National guardsmen comb the country side in an effort to eliminate the sudden rise of “murderous goals” This is probable the best part in the movie only because of Tom Savini's cameo as a local police officer/ zombie hunter. He dies a hero and legend of the local town. Fast forward to the future where rapist/ Serial Killer Abbot Hayes has suddenly disappeared from the morgue and people are worried that the same problem that made the dead rise long ago might have come back. The story follows many leads from Russo's written work which places a individual zombie as some sort of leader of the undead.
The first half of the movie is more like a Jason movie, with the zombified Abbot Hayes killing off people one by one with people guessing what is going on, only at the end does a real battle between undead and locals outside a diner blow up. All in all it was an alright movie with lots of nods to older zombie movies, one that I liked was when the sheriff and his deputy where in the diner and on the tv was none other then Night of the living dead. He remarks.” you know, they almost got it right, they only needed a few more buckets of blood.” I would only recommend downloading this one, don't spend any money and even then you should only watch it if your looking for something different then the “normal” zombie movie. It should also be noted that the director, Tor Ramsey issued a written apology to people who waisted 90 minutes of their lives. So you might ask. “Oni, why would this be on your top ten?” Because ladies and germs, there are far worse zombie movies out there, believe you, me.
#9. Zombi (1979): This movie Directed by Lucio Fulci was the first of a wave of Italian zombie movies ranging from the late 70's and throughout the 80's and made Fulci into a horror icon on their side of the Atlantic. Originally titled Zombi 2 as it was an unofficial sequel to Dawn of the Dead, titled Zombi in Europe was notable for being more violent then its Romero counter part to the point of being banned in the U.K. and only being released later in the 80's The story starts with cops finding a boat that drifted into a harbor finding a presumably dead person on board, however this person suddenly springs to life and kills one of the police by biting his throat out. After the zombie is dealt with by being knocked over board it is later discovered the boat belongs to the father of a young women named Anne Bowles, who doesn't know anything about it except her father went off to a tropical island to do research.
She teams up with a reporter who make their way to where her father is doing research, it turns out the island is cursed where the dead rise and eat the living and he is there to find out why. The movie is notable for two scenes, one where a zombie fights with a shark under water, and one where a woman gets her eye gouged out by a splintery peace of broken wood o.< ouch. This is a good movie if you like foreign work but all of the Italian movies pretty much have the same quality so its hard to put them in a hate to like order.
#8. Hell of the Living Dead(1980): Another Italian movie directed by Bruno Mattei and was originally titles “Virus” it is also know as Zombie Creeping Flesh, Night of the Zombies and Zombie 2(not to be confused with Lucio Fulci's film). Hell of the Living Dead is the story of four commandos who are sent in to Paupua New Guinea to investigate a chemical leak from a factory known as “Hope” One of several facilities created to eliminate world hunger, when in reality revealed at the end the chemical makes zombies and was intended to end world hunger by making the 3rd world country destroy themselves, through cannibalism. The movie has clear and plain influences from Dawn of the dead, Mattei even went as far as recruiting the same band that did the music for Dawn (Goblins) and used some of the same songs, now to be fair to the Italians the only zombie movie they had to go on, to idolize was Dawn of the Dead. I put Mattei's movie on top of Fulci's first movie because he is one of few directors that DONT make the number one mistake in zombie movies, that is (making a zombie movie, for the sake of zombies.) There are clear environmental undertones to this cheap little horror movie which shows he understood why Romero loves his own work. However because of the blatant ripe off work he does, he only gets number eight.
#7. Zombi 3(1988) Lucio Fulci's sequel to Zombi. When this movie was released over here in English land for some reason they said “Fuck it, lets just keep the title the same.” so people who actually follow this series get confused because they can't find Zombi 2. Like I said above, fulci's first film was the unofficial sequel to dawn of the dead which was titled Zombi in Europe, but Fulci's Zombi 2 was released here as Zombi, so in short Zombi 3 is actually Zombi 2, is your brain hurting yet? Its Final Fantasy all over again. The plot is simple but seemingly has little to do with Fulci's first film. The theft of a biological weapon from a tropical military base leads to the transformation many of the island's inhabitants into flesh eating zombies. The watcher follows a group of survivors some are military on leave trying to escape the quarantine zone before being eaten up by the zombies. There are some really dumb parts that come and go faster then you can say plot holes, like a box of guns the survivors find in the hotel they hold up in. While not the most intelligent movie it tries hard to be original and some of the fight sense are fun to watch to the point your on the edge of your seat thinking. “Is this guy going to die or what!?” keeps you guessing.
#6. Return of the living dead part 2(1988) Is a horror comedy and is the sequel to Return of the living dead. Part 2 does a greater job at being a comedy then the original tried to be, both with the zombies and the survivors, my favorite character is hands down Doc Mandel who is just fun to watch his cluelessness and takes the whole situation light heartedly, he was played by Phil Bruns who you may know as Morty Seinfeld, Jerry Seinfeld's original dad in his show. Some of the original actors from the first movie are also in this one, a small back and forth between these two characters illustrate what fans might have been thinking when first seeing them. “Joey: No no this isn't right, its like a bad dream. Ed: Yeah I know, tell me about it. Joey: No I mean, you! Me! Them! Its like....this all happened before you know?” In addition to just being fun to watch, this movie has one of the best soundtracks for a late 80's movie, back when horror movies and music was done right! Featuring songs from Anthrax, Leatherwolf ^.^, Lamont, Big-O, and more.
I leave you now with a song from Return of the living dead part 2 and my personal fav from that movie “Alone in the Night” by leatherwolf. Don't worry kiddies, they only get better from here stay tuned for part 2. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nGLmWom0HkA
