D3 tanking, lack thereof

So I wrote this all up yesterday night, then... well, I didnt even get a single response, not even a troll. Feh!
But yes, why does D3 have no tank/defensive class? I miss D2 simply for the paladin, all the classes in D3 are kinda meh. Id love to use a barb with a massive f-ing 2h weapon, but from all Ive read... thats basically impossible at hell and inferno difficulties considering how much defense you need as a melee class. So you get this HUGE BEAST OF A MUSCLEBOUND HERO hiding behind his shield, but wearing a loincloth... it just feels wrong!

Diablo3 and me
General | Posted 13 years agoYes, I have it preordered. Colelctors Edition. HOWEVER, its being shipped to my old address, so I wont get it all too quickly. Im going to ask my parents to open it up and tell me the code, so I can download it after registering on b.net.
When I do play, I will not be playing ANY multiplayer until I go through it at least once, entirely, in single player. I want to experience the story and stuff, and take my time, explore, etc. Not rush through with a group and miss half the game...
So yeah, Im getting it, but will be playing it solo for a while. Thats that!

How little we know....
General | Posted 13 years agoThis trip was always meant to be an experience like no other for me, and I knew I would grow quite a bit from this. My first time living on my own, truly, as well as being halfway across the country, doing something I truly dont have a lot of experience in. But so far in these couple weeks, that realization is really starting to sink in, and tonight hammered that idea home.
So I went over to a falconer's place for dinner and hanging out and stuff, and as he talked with my co-worker, I just felt... out of place. Like a newb, or a child, just entirely out of my league. These people knew names from across the country of fellow falconers, they had stories to tell each other and tidbits about bird equipment and experiences to share, and all I could do was sit there and be amazed. Every time I had a story to bring up, I felt like it just wasnt on the same level as theirs. I mean, this guy made his own hoods and gloves! They know SOOOO much about raptors, and birds in general really, while I only have about 1 year total, MAYBE, of experience with falconry.
Where I come home to play games and socialize online after work, they come home and make equipment and read books. Such a passion for these animals, I feel so... newbie.
But over the next few months, I think Im reaaallly gonna expand my own knowledge of falconry and bird control. Ill be doing this job 6 months or so full time, as the 'senior' falconer here, so I better learn plenty! All it takes is the right, willing attitude, the desire to learn!

Avengers movie, opinion. No spoilers.
General | Posted 13 years agoI will simply say that if you enjoyed the latest Marvel movies, such as the Iron Man movies, Thor and Capt America, you will love The Avengers. Basically, its got everything those movies have, good humour and good action, a blend of magic and technology, perfect sci fi super hero awesomeness... all in the one movie. Fun fun FUN!
Settled in, almost.
General | Posted 13 years agoGot a place, almost have a truck for landfill work, and now have a day off tomorrow. Things are progressing smoothly, actually, quite nice! The apartment we are living in (myself for the next 6 months or so) is super awesome, 2 bedroom and all, marble-looking counter tops, kitchen island, large main bedroom with ensuite bathroom and shower stall, etc. Wow. 5 minute drive from the landfill. In apartment laundry room and all. Ill get pictures soon!
But as for work... well, its landfill work. Fly birds, hope they cooperate and try to do the best job you can while managing the 10,000 gulls that fly about and make a mess. Kinda crazy, but hey, Im out here flying raptors and making money for it, hurrahs!

Carrying on!
General | Posted 13 years agoIm now in a teensy little town in Saskatchewan called 'Grenfell.'
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grenfell,_Saskatchewan
I wanted to stay in a hotel, but... well, Im not sure where the next hotel would be, so I settled for this somewhat-decent motel with wifi in the middle of nowhere, because thats all there seems to be out here between Regina and Winnipeg. Teensy little communities with shady looking motels.
I got a speeding ticket outside of Calgary for going 142 in a 110 zone (km/h remember) and that kinda ruined my day... at least the officer was kind enough to reduce the ticket price from $196 down to about $115 because I pulled right over even before he turned on his lights. X>
Everything after the rockies is boring as hell to drive through. The trans-Canada highway is in varying states of disrepair, sometimes its all pristine and new, sometimes huge potholes and noisy enough to drown out most of my music. But the only scenery once you get out of the rockies is... plains. Flat, huge, expansive, boring. PLains plains plains. Nothing but plains. ffffffff-boring!
So I started this morning in Golden, BC, heading out at about 10:30ish, and Im now in Grenfell at about 10:00ish. Here's what google directions says about the trip...
"1,138 km, 13 hours 2 mins
Trans-Canada Hwy/AB-1 E and Trans-Canada Hwy/SK-1 E"
So yeah, I shaved some time off their estimation by speeding a bit and even with my pitstops I made good time! Should be a shorter, decent drive tomorrow I think to finish up in Winnipeg.
Also also, why the hell is the speed limit on the trans-Canada 110? Its so flat and straight and open, hardly dangerous to be going 150 or more!

Winnipeg Trip update
General | Posted 13 years agoSo I left my house yesterday morning at 7:10 or so, hopped on the ferry zipped over to Vancouver and met up with friends for lunch. Back on the road by 1:00pm, I then drove until 8:30 (9:30 with the current time zone now) before stopping in Golden, BC. This is where I am right now. Golden BC.
I cannot believe how gorgeous the drive between Sicamous and Revelstoke is! And, according to my parents, the drive from here until I get out of the Rockies is even more so. Actually, my dad proposed to my mom in Banff... which is my next stop! I need to get to Winnipeg by the afternoon of tomorrow though, so lots more driving to do. Out of a 24 hour trip, I suppose Im about 8 hours in or so. Estimated based on speed. X>

The Big News (for me)
General | Posted 13 years agoThis has nothing to do with world events or anything, because world events are lame and mean little to me... This is personal news!
I figure its about time I let the cat out of the bag and let people know what's happened and what's going on with me after the career choices I had to make. I ended up speaking with the IT company and working things out with them, and I let them know that my true passion and dream would be to work with the birds, and I couldnt let that opportunity pass me up, with which the manager, the fellow doing the hiring, agreed. So yes, I went with the birds rather than the IT position. Follow your heart and all that.
And so it is that this past week of work at Pizza Zone was my last week of work there, for now. I just concluded my last night of delivery driving for the next 6 or 7 months at least, so long as the contract with the landfill in Winnipeg lasts and if there isnt more work for me with the birds in the future. As of May, I will be moving to Winnipeg to do that work there, advised that it will likely last until mid-October or so. There will not be time off for me, no vacations, so obviously no camping trip or AC or anything this summer, but this is entirely worth it in my opinion!
Im looking forward to this incredible chance, and I really hope to do my best! Thanks to all of you for such support as Ive gotten, when I was trying to make the tough choice for where to go with my life, and understanding now as I take the huge step of moving to another province for at least half a year!

Hunger Games movie, no spoilers
General | Posted 13 years agoIll start off by saying I read the first book, so I can add a bit of a comparison since this movie is entirely based on the FIRST book. And honestly, Im not entirely sure how much I can truly say about it. Its pretty darn true to the novel itself, and just like the written form this story shown on the big screen is a freaking emotional ride. It brought me closest to crying that Ive been in many years. It took me to that rage-filled twitchyness where my lip almost curls and my eyes narrow. And there were times I was jsut like... 'well that was stupid of you...' X>
During my read of the book I was constantly commenting to myself 'Uh, thats not smart, dont do that...' and 'surely that wouldnt happen...' But Ive read more in depth novels about survival, fantasy and death that make much more logical sense than a lot of the story in Hunger Games, but I also may have been taught wrong by these same things. Ill admit, Im no expert on living and surviving off the wild, but there are just things in Hunger Games that dont make reasonable sense to ME, from my frame of view.
Still, this movie is a FANTASTIC adaptation of the novel, and truly plays with your emotions in the same way that made the novel so wonderful. Sure, the writing isnt perfect, Eragon was a much more incredible feat of writing in terms of content (considering the age of the author,) but if you can grade a story based on how well it grips you, moves you, and keeps you wrapped up, then this is grade 'A' material.
TL;DR - Hunger Games, as a movie, stays true to the book and is fantastically entertaining, even though there are points which are a bit too soap opera-y for my taste.

Chat rooms and you.
General | Posted 13 years agoMany people I know RP. Heck, most of the people Ive met online I met because of RP. However, there are tons that dont enjoy the environment of a chatroom for the purposes of RP. And I would love to know why. What is it about chatrooms that make people uncomfortable or nervous or just cause them to not enjoy themselves?
Ive been to a good few myself, been going to Ekas for a looong long time, and personally I enjoy chatroom RPing much more than IM RPing. One, I like to put myself into a world, a somewhat consistent world, where you can truly imagine that youre not just talking to someone via text. You can envision yourself, your character, there in another world and play out the scenes. And two, I find it fun to have others able to watch or interact, join in or at least view your character and perhaps garner more interest.
Chatrooms also allow for things like coloured text, notifications, and profiles to view at your leisure. There can be a new person to play with every day, and things dont get tired or boring... Well, sometimes. Granted, there are always the politics that go along with being around groups of people, the friendships and the jealousy and the dislikes... but thats social life for you!
But what are some other thoughts? Are people interested in chatrooms but dont feel they fit in? Are there other reasons you might be disinclined to visit a chatroom for RP purposes? I am curious!

Question regarding viewpoint in RP
General | Posted 14 years agoWhen you RP do you view the scene as a bystander, watching it from your own eyes? Do you watch two characters going at it with each other, in whatever type of RP you do? Or do you try and put yourself in your character's position and view it from that first person perspective? Do you imagine it as if things were happening TO you?
Im curious, is all. I view most scenes now as things happening which Im watching, rather than being in the place of my character. If Im RPing some vore I dont imagine my own jaws stretching out to stuff a live, squirming meal in my jaws. I watch it happening in my imagination. I dont try and feel like my tummy is bloated and round, I picture it and smile to the mental image. Most of the time... some times I do get into the scene as well as I can personally, imagining what its like to have a gryphon there, curled up around me, licking my face or squeezing me up tight and keeping me warm... Rr....
I guess some things are more easily imagined than others, which could lend to this situation.
Anyways, thoughts from others?

General | Posted 14 years agoBehind the times: Game of Thrones
General | Posted 14 years agoStart off by saying I never read the book(s) that this series was based on, so I dont know how they compare and I didnt know anything about the plot. I just picked it up about... 3 days ago, I think. Watched 1 episode and I was hooked. I havent even played many games in the past few days simply because this series caught me up that badly!
For those not in the know, its a TV series based on some fantasy novels. It follows the story of a land of 7 kingdoms which is in turmoil, with a single throne to rule over these 7 kingdoms supposedly, and of course there are all sorts of politics and battles over the throne, intricacies, backstabbing, conniving, scheming, plotting... yeah, that kind of silly stuff in courts. But it also includes bloody battles, duels, dragons and zombies... Seriously. It even has lots of drinking and nudity and titties, gay relationships... though actually, the nudity and whoring and sexual focus of it all kind of just makes me roll my eyes and wish the scene ends quickly, as pretty much all sex scenes do.
And, come on, Boromir is one of the main characters! well, Sean Bean, but I refer to him as Boromir anyways.
All in all, though, I recommend it! Fully!

General | Posted 14 years agoSW Ep1 3D
General | Posted 14 years agoHa, title without any real words FTW!
Star Wars... I got up to an alarm today to go and see this in theatres. And... its the same movie for sure. I never minded Ep1 in all honesty, though I will admit that now that Im older its kinda... yeah. Liam Neeson is still awesome, of course! And the 3D? It was done magnificently! Seriously, this movie had the best 3D effects out of any live action movie Ive seen to date. Avatar made my eyes hurt and gave me a head-ache, but this movie wasn't even designed to BE 3D and yet it just works. Maybe because it was never meant for 3D, they didn't throw in all those 'whooOOOooa! In your FACE!' kind of shots or anything. It didn't focus on any tricks or gimmicks or showcasing 3D at all, so it just came off as a movie in 3D. It was all seamless, the difference between foregrounds and backgrounds and what should be in focus and what shouldnt, it was all so well done!
I know the movie itself is getting older and it was never that fantastic, but other producers should watch this to see how 3D can be used to enhance a movie, instead of relying on 3D as your gimmick!

Goooooon!
General | Posted 14 years agoJust got back from the movie 'Goon,' which I watched by myself because I only have 2 friends here it seems and neither were feeling up to it tonight, and it was a blast! Okay, sure, the rest of the crowd in the theatre wasnt quite into it, they could've been laughing harder and whatnot, but I had fuunnn!
For those not sure, its a movie about a bouncer that becomes a hockey player, a Goon, in order to pull a team back together that had been crumbling apart. Im honestly unsure if its supposed to be an action movie, comedy, drama, or whatever else, but it was funny and it had ridiculous amounts of blood. It was brutal, vicious, hilarious, and still had a story, though the story was simple. Which is good. No story to bog the stuff down. It wasnt meant to tell the story.
My biggest complaint was the immature twat, played by 'Hiccup' from HTTYD. One, I cant rid my mental image of Hiccup from that voice, and two it was just rude, ridiculous babble about nothing with 'fuck' thrown in as every second word. Seriously, once you get past most of him in the first 15 minutes or so, its golden... but daaaamnit, his role in that movie was just bad. BAD!
