Posted 2 years agoI do want to start off saying I still am not super duper extra active here, if you need to talk to me zomgritenao you may be best off hitting me up on Mastodon. I've pretty much caught up on stuff that is relevant to posting here, and may have a few more to set up on here soonish.
COMMISSIONS
Yes, they're open at the time of posting this journal! I'm not going to promise this list is super up to date if it's been a month or two since posting this because of aforementioned not being the most active FA user, so instead I'd suggest you head on over to my website and poke around. I'm hoping to add additional things over time, but these are things I can reliably do consistently, so we're gonna start off with these.
CURRENTLY OFFERING:
Speed paint bust/half-body, speed paint full-body & scene, monochrome drawings, sketches, custom emotes, fully rendered paintings, custom "cutie" characters, and some YCH wolves.
My main commission page, with link to TOS & commission order form
Trello, all projects personal, fandom, & commercial
YCH stuff is over on Ko-Fi, currently cute wolves only, more to come soon

I post a journal every 5 years
Posted 2 years agoOr at least, that's how it seems based on the last one. Mostly just wanted to get the old one off the page. I've definitely been garbage at staying in touch with people (both IRL and the internet) so hi if I know ya.
I've been super busy, but now that I have time again, gonna maybe upload a few things here and there when they're somewhat relevant to FA's content, but not gonna make any big promises yet. I've missed drawing all sorts of critters though, that's for sure.
If this journal is still up in another 4-5 years I probably got hired by another company right away. :P If it doesn't, I guess various fandom spaces are stuck with me for a bit.

Posted 7 years agoIn case it wasn't obvious, I don't use this site all that much any more for various reasons! However, I am now going to be posting relevant art every once and a while. Vague, yes, but I'll be aiming for a few things a month just to prove I'm alive -- in fact I have a couple more things (including some not drawn yet, aka half of an ancient trade) that will be posted here in March if all goes well.
If you do want to follow my art on a regular basis, I've provided a list below that has all my info! :) I'll be keeping it up to date so when stuff like my Patreon feels more ready to go, that'll be added on as needed. It's up to date as of this posting!

Posted 13 years agoSorry for just falling off the planet. I finally got that portfolio of mine turned in and all that jazz, huzzah. Fingers crossed I get the job, because that would be awesome.
I'll be hopefully going through and collecting a bit more info to put up (as far as my chars go, heh) on the sketch trade journal and will be responding to the folks who did respond by the end of the week, starting on my half of things next week. ^^ I figure replying when I'm not quite so wharrgarbl at things would be a good idea.
For now I just need to get back in the swing of things without the Sword of Damocles hanging over my head. Woo!

Sketch trades?
Posted 13 years agoWas wondering if any of you watcher types are interested in or know of anyone interested in sketch trades, maybe with a splash of color? Like, goofy quick ones, not super srs business high detailed ones. AKA see my latest doodles in scraps. Speaking of which I have some wolf drawings to finish and upload, should do that.
Basically I'm just looking for things to do as warm up drawings of different stuff. And getting random arts of like... D'mir or the hooded dude or velocibutlers or random Zikkihuru characters in return would be neat-o. XD I'm not even heinously picky on style or anything either, just something that would seem acceptable in trade for the kind of doodles I've drawn. I'd offer to sell them too but I wasn't paying attention to time when I did them, but I suspect they're 10 to 20 minute sketches, so uh... Wait a bit for that if you're interested, heh.
If you aren't open for trades/not interested/whatever where do you folks find your trades? >.> Kind of hesitant to post on the forums because I'm sure there are tons of people who would happily wharrgarbl for free art regardless of skill level or what the post itself says. Also I totally hate like.. "cold calling" people about anything, so that doesn't help either. Another thing that doesn't help is other than hooded guy, there aren't really character sheets for a bunch of my stuff at the moment -- good and bad, it's up to your interpretation then, zomgs!
Stuff that actually isn't human
http://www.furaffinity.net/full/7322529/ 3d D'mir Head sculpt

D'mir - Immortal warlord. Solid black. Design your own armor/outfit for him, heh.
http://www.furaffinity.net/full/8324755/
Hooded dude! - Curious critter of some sort.
Velociraptor butlers - Design as you wish, feathers and bow tie required.
Humanoids
http://www.furaffinity.net/full/8710322/
Ruulant - Aristocrat mage kid. He does have feathered wings that are black with white tips. His adult self can be in black and gold instead of white and gold, and if drawn as an adult, wings may be optional.
Qhyuisondre - Retired paladin shapeshifter. Alternately, has an anachronistic penchant for grey pinstripe suits.
Daenissen - Kind of a scruffy hobo. Mage.
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/8171856/
Zerin - Awkward out-of-place chick. Has tiny nub horns that are hard to see in that picture.. At least in this current iteration, uhh.
Auriel - Mysteriously sly dude, but seems to mean well

Upcoming projects
Posted 13 years agoSo I have some neat ideas on the horizon!
Still open for badges and paintings. Info in the header. :)
These are the main projects I want to start up soonish. If you have any other ideas for stuff you might like to see, just let me know. :D I mean I know what I'd like to see, but I don't know everything (yet!).
WALLPAPERS
I think this would be an easy and inexpensive way to let more people have access to getting a big scene painting if they wanted one. :) Obviously they wouldn't be at print resolution (unless you like really small prints), but they'd be custom tailored to whatever your monitor (or monitors for some folks) is set at. I'm sure the hopefully-under-$100 price tag will also make people happy, heh. I need to do some samples though. ^^
BUTTONS?!
I was thinking of doing bird & reptile themed buttons. I think they could be good fun. And they're cheap enough that I think most people could enjoy them. >P I'm still doing my research but oh man I have too many I want to do. I started off with about.. 5 groups of 8 different species. :| Now I have a lot more. Mainly because I went through and picked color morphs and stuff too. It's uh.. A long list now. Really long.
Have any species preferences? I was thinking of starting off with a set of like.. 5 buttons, maybe order 10 of each and see how they sell. I'd probably sell them on Etsy/Storenvy or something too (still researching). I'm thinking of staying with relatively common things (ie budgies, African greys, leopard geckos, etc) rather than going crazy out there and picking some rare crazy snake/bird that only "experts" would recognize.
THEME BADGES
For people who'd want a <theme> badge to match the <theme> con they're going to. These are more detailed than the gouache ones and will probably be digital and around $40-ish.
SKETCHES
I'm thinking of starting up sketch commissions. Probably digitally. And also probably have an option of a sketch sheet where I'd do multiples. I need to see how long it really takes me though, woo. I may also ponder sketch references like the hooded guy where it has some poses that aren't finalized and one finalized, flat color image.
SMALL SCULPTURE
Like under 3"x3" sculpey things. Reasonably simple, likely, but well-crafted.
ART PACKS
More samples needed, but I'm totally going to be thinking up some nice sale prices for if you buy multiple things, like a badge + wallpaper. Prices TBD, but they'll be good deals for what you'll get. ^^

$25 Gouache badges or $15+ Paintings! [Open]
Posted 13 years agoEXAMPLES
ForeverNika - Badge - http://www.furaffinity.net/full/8297425/
kyan0 - $30 painting - http://www.furaffinity.net/full/8480127/
Generic examples - http://www.furaffinity.net/full/8099237/
WHAT IS IT?!
$25 "toony" badge with or without text and/or simple background
+$2.50 if you want the original
If you order 2 or more badges shipped to the same address, the first badge is $25, and the 2nd/3rd/4th/etc are $20 each.
If you later lose/destroy your badge and need a new copy, that's okay, they're prints! Reprints are $8, shipping included.
Payment is required in full before I'll start painting -- PayPal, USD only.
You get to approve the sketch and the touched up image. Other than that there are no "in progress" shots.
Time from initial ordering to completion can be as little as one day if everything goes well!
ORIGINALS
+$2.50 for the gouache original
Originals are on bristol board, and will be shipped with chipboard backing inside a clear plastic envelope for protection in transit.
If you would like the original, please tell me.
Do note gouache is basically opaque watercolor, so keep the original from getting wet!
SHIPPING
Shipping inside the US included via USPS Priority with Delivery Confirmation. International shipping will likely cost extra.
Friday or Saturday following completion is the ship date unless your piece is the only thing in queue.
BUT MAYBE I DON'T GO TO CONS...
That's okay! I can do non-badge versions for $15.
They can be pretty much anything! Your character, your pet bird, your favorite dinosaur...
However, these are not shipped unless specially requested.
BUT if you ever order something else from me in the future that does include something shipped (badge, print, etc), you'll find the original painting(s) you've ordered in the box as well. :D
Otherwise, treat it pretty much the same -- same form, same style.
WANT SOMETHING MORE?
If you want a painting and want something slightly more complicated than just a badge style image, I'll happily do more for more money.
Depending on the amount paid I can add a background, maybe throw in some additional simple characters, or even fill the whole 4"x6" card.
If you want a specific combination, drop me a line and I'll give you an estimate.
Basically, by $35 the whole 4"x6" card will be filled.
Then $40+ I'll work on a 9"x12" sheet (but starting at roughly half the area) instead.
By $80+ it'll be the majority of the 9"x12" sheet, with optional shipping.
Pay $130, and it'll be the whole visible area of the 9"x12" sheet, and it will also be matted, framed, and shipped to you (outside the US is extra).
GO!

Graduated! Upcoming commissions, updated artwork
Posted 13 years agoI have 1251 messages to look at just here on FA, d'oh. I'll be responding to all the comments, looking at watchers, etc. soon.
Anyway, a few days ago I went through and wrote up my TOS at long last. Assuming I don't hear from some potential freelancing places by the weekend, I'll probably be seeing if I can get my example pieces and prices figured out. Is there any specific type of art you'd want to buy? Prices you'd want? Now is the chance to give your thoughts on the matter. :P
The following pieces have been updated...
You will likely need to refresh the page a time or two to get the update to load. This is theoretically the last time I'm touching these pieces, so anything else from here on should be new.

Nabyn, invites, and other things
Posted 13 years agoDA Copypasta! So if you watch my DA you pretty much already have read this.
So set up a gallery on Nabyn ( http://www.nabyn.com/ )... It does have some nice features that DA and/or FA don't have. And it's small. I kind of like those facts, heh. Oh yeah, and they also are more into artistic improvement, crits, & such, so that is double-win.
I have an invite and will likely end up with more, so anyone interested in getting one? They request that people be 15 or over, and have a preference for people who have at least a certain level of skill (not like, woahcrazy, but not MSPaint scribbles), and not photography or sculpture.
So far the people I've talked to in their shoutbox are all pretty cool.
If you're on there already, feel free to add me: http://onyxserpent.nabyn.com/
If not, as I've said, I have an invite, and will likely end up with more eventually. XD So let me know and I'll see about possibly getting ya set up.
Also, LAST SEMESTER OF SCHOOL, OMG.
Doodles must ensue. Will be attempting to get moar active and possibly do stuff that people might want to commission. If you have any particular interest in a specific item or type of item, lemme know.

Earthtones!
Posted 14 years agoI has 'em.
I CAN PAINT ALL THE THINGS.
ALL OF THEM.
Seriously watch out. I would paint tonight but I just remembered I have class in an hour.
GEE THANKS PHONE FOR NOT REMINDING ME. I totally appreciate your lack of beepage and near dinner&class-missing tendencies.
Either way, I will totally paint some more characters in the upcoming days because it's neat. People like free things, right?

School + commission ramblings
Posted 14 years agoSchool starts up again Tuesday. Woo. Good and bad. Looking forward to having a slightly more reliable schedule, but it's my last semester so all the good classes I'll be taking are the ones I'm technically auditing/sitting in for free, heh. In a way, not looking forward to graduation, because it means I don't get to take any more classes there. Oh, and it means I have to get a real job, ew. :P
Still have another gouache painting and change to do, depending if I try to redo the ones that failed like woah. Which was several because I didn't know what I was doing.
I keep thinking about commissions but I have no idea what people would want for what prices. And I'm sure the fact I refuse to work at slave wages doesn't help any either. :P All I know is I'd love to have enough funds to buy pretty art books and a new gaming/art setup post graduation. Either way, will go poke at the TOS I started and see if I can cut it down to something simple.
Besides badges, which I think I have pretty much figured out costwise and all that, the only other thing I've done for real recently is that gouache stuff. Derpy little 4x4 or smaller paintings for what? $18 to $30 depending on size? Only problem being they don't seem to scan all that well (at least using the current paper/sketchbook I'm using -- maybe hot press thin illustration board or smooth bristol would be better), and I am really hesitant to just mail off originals without them being protected... So I don't want to just mail something off and then later get a message saying that the package got rained on and the gouache reactivated and smudged everywhere or something. >.< I guess I could do ACEOs and buy sleeves for them, but are people actually interested?
Beyond that I haven't done much other than my huge layout/background paintings which would hit over $150 easy... I doubt they would sell very often at this point, haha. So really I need more low to mid priced things and samples thereof. Heck if I know what.
So, oh watchers, what do you like buying? Or alternately, what's your top sellers?
Colorful characters -- Requests kinda.
Posted 14 years agoLike literally colorful. D'you have one? Now I don't mean necessarily that the character is eye-popping red or a living rainbow... Just ones that have like... More than one base color. Heck, Bernese Mountain Dogs probably even qualify.
I dug out the gouache paints my old roommate gave me and am eager to test out these expensive paints! I also have a hell of a hard time spelling "gouache," I keep having to look. Damn extra letters.
However, also I kind of want more practice drawing other people's chars and stuff (since my characters are pretty much locked in earthy, realistic colors anyway). So, pretty much open for a few request sort of things. Obviously, preferring characters that are interesting in some visual way whether it be by color, pattern, or interesting species. I seem to have primarily rainbow colors in front of me (no browns, bleh), so keep that in mind.
Basically, you provide the character, and if I pick it, it's my choice for everything else. :P Won't be sending out originals of these, or anything like that. They're likely going to be reasonably small, and in a sketchbook. But if for some reason you like the result I could probably be bribed into cleaning up the result, haha.
Otherwise I'll likely just paint a bunch of parrots. Everyone likes parrots, right?

Yay break
Posted 14 years agoSo winter break is technically here. I have to go clean up around the condo after the disaster that was finals week. It looks like a crafts store exploded all over the front room.
I do have some ideas for upcoming projects, so we'll have to see how those go. Hopefully some cheaper commission-y stuff too. I mean you all want to give me your monies, right?! Was thinking monochrome + accent color badge type things. Maybe not true badges, but just something along those lines. Probably experimenting with traditional media of some kind -- probably gouache or acrylic ink.
Also will be reuploading a bunch of my Zikkihuru stuff with the final images.
And augh. I have 495 submissions to go through from the past like.. 25 days on FA. And pretty much another 300 deviations/journals/etc on DA. Plus 175 things in my RSS feeds. SO MUCH STUFF. Can't everyone be slackers instead?! XD

OPINIONS: About badge attachment!
Posted 14 years agoOh hai, watchers! Hope you've been doing well this past bit of time!
So I've been thinking about this. I really want to find some sturdy, easy way to hang badges. I've thought of several. My main issue is I want to use a metal grommet on the badge, proper. Which basically limits me to a tiny hole and complicates my life like MacGuyver being unable to use duct tape and paperclips.
So, if you had a choice, what would you pick?
Badge clip
-- The same ol' same old. Clip it on, good to go.
-- Problem with this is that I will need two jump rings or equivalent to get to it.
Lanyard
-- The nice cord kind.
-- I can then just use the clip and run it through the grommit and it's pretty much the easiest solution that would be pretty commonplace.
That ball chain stuff
-- You know, like they put dogtags on.
-- Apparently my dad has a roll of it -- sweet! Free stuff. At the very least I can make keychains, I guess. XD
-- Because of the grommet, it shouldn't hurt the badge at all, either.
-- I think this is also the easiest to ship option (would fit in a flat cardboard envelope easy).
Something I've not thought of?
-- If so, what is it? Inform me! I DESIRE OPINIONS AND INFORMATION!
ALSO!
If you order a badge, do you expect to have a badge clip/lanyard shipped, or do you not need it and have your own? What do you expect?
Thanks for readin' and any opinions on the matter. :D

Upcoming stuff.
Posted 14 years agoFirst off, for those who might have faved or watched in the last not-too-long, thanks for doing so. :D I might not say it directly, but I do go and at least peek at your work like a ninja in return.
I'm thinking about starting up commissions in the next few weeks -- aiming for after the semester is over.
First thing I'm going to get up and rolling is badges. I'm currently working on one for Bryndel since she's supposed to go to a con this next weekend. It'll be a close call as far as shipping goes, I think, but it SHOULD make it there in time if USPS doesn't lose it in the mail or something.
Pricing is waffling a bit, but it'll likely be somewhere between $25 and $35 unless for some bizarre reason people want to pay more. I mean, I'll totally take the money and spend extra time working on it, but still.. XD Is anyone potentially interested in getting one, once I finish an example set, just judging by my other pieces?
Beyond that, I'm not too sure as far as what I'd offer or how much it'd be. -- Well, other than if someone wants a crazy epic layout, it'll cost a lot just due to time it takes. :P Still gotta finish up my TOS and double check I haven't forgotten anything obvious.
I also finally got streaming to work and have been showing Bryn her badge as it develops. I'll happily let people spy if there's interest once I get going again (dinner break). I'm going to have to do another big layout over the next couple weeks too. Any interest in streaming that? What would you like to see streamed?

Oh hai.
Posted 14 years agoSo I'm starting up a gallery here to complement my DA gallery. Thus, over the next howeverlong I shall be uploading random things. I'm going to be attempting to put them up in vaguely chronological order, so stuff should theoretically get better as time goes on. Theoretically. Unfortunately, a lot of my recent stuff hasn't been all that animal-oriented, which is unfortunate because things that fall under the creature/monster category are much more interesting to draw... Anyway, the semester is almost over so hopefully that'll change soon. :)
You can get a sneak preview of things by heading on over there to my DA (also OnyxSerpent, gee). Or you can be lazy and just wait until it appears here too, I don't mind.
Thanks for any favs and watches I get during this goofy start-up period. :P
Feel free to ask questions or give critiques, all are good. :D
