Announcement!
General | Posted 8 years agoSo in part to keep the discussion in the previous journal off my front page, I figured I'd make a journal to put forth a change for Onyx: he now has the surname Wasson! This of course isn't a MASSIVE change, since most people refer to him/me as Onyx anyway, and I'm still keeping any social accounts I have as OnyxTanuki. I just thought, as he develops more into his own entity, he needed to have a surname. Technically I could have just made Tanuki his surname, but considering he gets his tanuki blood from his mom's side, that'd be a little awkward IMO.
Anyway. Yeah. Onyx's last name is now Wasson. Yay character development!

Rape in porn comics: My Unwanted Opinions
General | Posted 8 years agoFirstly, I'd like to preface this by saying that, while I won't name the artist or the particular comic that triggered this journal, and while I'll try to be at least somewhat vague, it's entirely possible that several of you will know what I'm referring to just from context clues, and a few of my friends already know since I've discussed it briefly with them. I'll ask that nobody post any guesses in this journal, nor PM me with guesses: if I find any attempts to ID either the artist or comic I'll delete them. This journal isn't meant to vilify anyone, it's meant for me to just get these opinions off my chest.
With that out of the way, I'd like to discuss my opinions on rape in porn comics. One of the main defenses I see is "it's just porn lol." First and foremost, no. Maybe our definitions differ, but I see porn as something that is both arousing and pleasurable. I will not deny that rape in porn can often be arousing, but at the same time it certainly isn't enjoyable. Disgusting is probably a closer word. I think part of this takes root in the fact that I'm very much a control freak, and any situation where someone has no way to stop themselves or a loved one from being victimized gets really deep under my skin. That's twofold when the rape includes acts I typically find arousing, as it comes along with the shame of having that physical reaction of arousal to something so abhorrent as rape.
That links into an element of the comic that sparked this discussion; how physical arousal and desire are linked. One of the recently-introduced antagonists immediately fondles the main protagonist and reveals him to have an erection upon witnessing an ongoing rape occurring, and implies that it's connected to enjoying the scene before him or desiring sex himself. I'm not entirely sure of the artist's intent here: they might be using this as a means to make this new antagonist seem more despicable, or this may be truly a means of revealing some facet of the protagonist. In either case, I feel it's important to make this clear: physical arousal is a completely separate entity from desire and enjoyment. Anyone with a penis can attest to the fact that erections occur independently of desire. One can become physically aroused as a result of a good workout, as a result of anger or fear. Erections are even a common physical reaction during the course of death. Orgasm is the same thing: a physical reaction to a stimulus, not necessarily a sign of pleasure.
One more element is the means by which this rape is achieved. The deuteragonist of the comic in question is - at least as far as we can tell - being raped through coersion. The main antagonist does make the implication that it's simply a desire for him to suck any cock that's made available to him, but based on previous actions by both the deuteragonist and antagonist, it seems doubtful (although, again, I'm not fully aware of the artist's intentions or motives, and without a clear answer from them, this is still in the air). That said, rape through coersion IS STILL RAPE. Put yourself in the victim's shoes. Suppose you're given one of two choices: either you have to watch a man slowly torture your mother as you're forced to watch, or you're forced to suck his cock while your mother watches. If you choose to suck the man off to save your mother, does that mean you're no longer being raped, simply because you made the decision? Of course not. You've simply chosen the option that'll result in the least harm in the long run.
You'll probably note that I did implore that you "put yourself in the victim's shoes," and I think that may be part of why I've taken such an aversion to the events in the comic. I empathize far too much with the characters. Despite knowing this is a work of imagination, that the events are fictional, and not at all knowing how the artist intends to resolve these issues, I still put myself into the protagonist's mindset, I still imagine how I would react in the situation, and I find myself sick to my stomach at the thought of ever facing something so harrowing. It may very well just be me being me.
Once more, I'll state that this is by no means a dig at the artist, or the comic that triggered this. For all I know they may intend to resolve everything by the next page, or they may be setting things up to make the antagonists as despicable as possible. Or they may well be in the "it's just porn lol" camp, I dunno. I'm not here to judge, I just wanted to get this out and see how others may think.

General | Posted 9 years agoIf anyone's familiar with Pathfinder and interested in 3rd party products, just wanted to use this to advertise a bit:
http://www.rpgnow.com/product/20578.....es-of-Porphyra
If any one of you's gotten books in the Kineticists of Porphyra line, you may have noticed a familiar name in the credits. Well, with the experience I gained from my work on those, I've finally finished my first solo project. It's a book containing a slew of witch archetypes, as well as some new patrons, hexes, familiars, feats, even familiar archetypes. Even if you don't want to buy it, though, that's cool, I just wanted to have my proud papa moment of having my baby out for the public to view.
Er, yeah, that didn't sound creepy at all.

https://twitter.com/JosephMatili
That is NOT me. I mean it's cool that there's folks out there that think I'm so fucking awesome that they have to use my images for their roleplays, but it'd have been pretty nice to have been asked first, and for there to be at least some disclaimer so there's no misrepresentation. That's the thing I worry about most, is people trying to contact me here thinking they're contacting this Joseph dude, or vice versa.
Anyway. Glad you dig Onyx this much, Joe, but next time ask before plastering my dick all over your twitter, or at least link back to me as the creator, eh?

No, not Christmastime (although I suppose that too), it's time for me to whore myself out for raffle promotion! This time around it's for
the_cherret_awaits: http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/6344341/ Seriously, check those sample images, even a 3rd prize would be awesome. Enter, maybe pimp him out a little.
*not actually referring to a specific date, may include other dates that have already occurred less than twelve (12) months ago, all subscription and additional fees may still apply, ask your doctor if you experience severe side effects such as dry mouth, itchy anus or throat, or an erection lasting more than four hours.

Pokememe

1. What’s your favorite Pokémon? Dunsparce. I realize it's not an especially good pokemon, but it's one of the first I ever set up to use competitively and was somewhat successful with (IIRC it ran a Paraflinch set with Headbutt, Glare, Bite, and Water Pulse, which really wasn't too good but it did what it needed to). Would I use it competitively today? Probably not, as there's better Paraflinchers out there. But Dunsparce holds a special place for me.
2. What’s your least favorite Pokémon? Delcatty. All I see is wasted potential due to lackluster stats. It doesn't have the defenses to work with Cute Charm or Wonder Skin (the latter of which is used by much better pokemon) and Normalize is nothing but the Walmart-brand Protean; it ensures STAB on all moves, but also ensures a Normalize Delcatty is walled y Rock, Steel, and Ghost types. Its offenses are too shit to run an offensive set, and its defenses are too poor for a defensive or stat-reliant set. It just makes me sad to look at it.
3. What 6 Pokémon would be on your team? Hard to say, since it'd depend on what tier I'm preparing for. In a just-for-fun team though, I'd probably go for Mismagius, Alomomola, Ninjask, Avalugg, Probopass, and Keldeo. Leaves me team fairly weak to Electric attacks, but eh, I can make due with Probopass as a special wall more than likely.
4. Favorite type? I think Bug. It's kind of a dark horse type IMO, in that it's one of the types that nobody really prepares for it, but it can actually be fairly threatening. It also has some of my favorite pokemon in it, which really pushes it forward for me.
5. Least favorite type? Fighting. I have yet to see a Fighting type that really appeals strongly to me. So are more interesting than others, I'll grant, and it's absolutely a great offensive type, but the pokemon themselves are mostly meh for me.
6. Favorite region? Hoenn. I think 3rd gen was probably my absolute favorite, and it's the last gen I was willing to play all the way through the game. Which is why the remakes actually have me kinda pumped~ They best have the secret bases in the remakes though because if not I will flip a bitch. >:C
7. Favorite move? Picking a favorite move is really tough since there's a lot that are worthy, but I guess I'll have to go with Power Gem here. It's highly unexpected since it's Rock's only Special move with more than 60 base power, and can be used by a lot of things you wouldn't think to prepare for it from (such as Misdreavus or Carbink).
8. Favorite Normal-type Pokémon? Dunsparce, for reasons already covered. Though I have to say Furfrou gives it a run for its money.
9. Favorite Fire-type Pokémon? It's a tie between Chandelure and Volcarona. Both are amazing. I think Chandelure just barely edges it out, though, if I absolutely must pick one. This may change once Volcanion comes out though...
10. Favorite Water-type Pokémon? Alomomola. One of the best Wish passers in existence that isn't related to Chansey, even if its moveset is fairly predictable. Its physical offense is surprisingly good for a defensive pokemon too.
11. Favorite Electric-type? This one goes to Eelektross. Electric is a great defensive typing, but so few pokemon utilize it. Eelektross does so well, though, by Levitating, making it one of the few pokemon left that requires specific moves or abilities to actually hit it with a type it's weak to. Rotom is a close second, simply due to most of its forms having rather unique typing.
12. Favorite Grass-type? There's a decent number of them I dig, but the prize I think is gonna go to Torterra. Even though it's a mediocre pokemon, its typing is unique, it's got a bitchin design, and it actually makes a really decent Assault Vest user.
13. Favorite Ice-type? Avalugg, hands down. What other Ice type can shrug off nearly any physical attack, including ones it's weak to? It'd be nice if it had a secondary typing to improve its defensive standing (Ice/Fairy would have been ideal IMO, and would have given us a really decent physically-defensive Fairy) but it's got a great movepool for the role it was designed for.
14. Favorite Fighting-type? Terrakion. It's one of the small handful of Fighting types I kinda like, even though I've never actually used it. It's mostly because it's got a unique type combo, to be perfectly honest. :P
15. Favorite Poison-type? Really tough choice; Poison is a great type (especially thanks to the addition of Fairy) with a lot of unique designs, and is a close runner for favorite type overall for me. It's very close, but I think I'll go for Gengar, with Venusaur and Nidoking as runners-up.
16. Favorite Ground-type? Another I had a tought time deciding, since there's a good number I like, but I think I'll settle on Gastrodon for this, as it's not only a great pokemon, but my favorite of the Water/Ground types.
17. Favorite Flying-type? Togekiss, I think. It was a strong contender for favorite Normal type before it was retconned to Fairy, and there's a lot of other Flying types I like too, but I guess I just like things capable of parahax. XD
18. Favorite Psychic-type? Swoobat, hands down. I know there's far stronger, but you don't know how satisfying it is to get a Stored Power sweep, and Swoobat is the most capable of achieving it thanks to the Simple ability and pretty awesome Speed.
19. Favorite Bug-type? I dig a lot of the bugs out there, especially Gen 5 bugs, so the choice is really difficult. I think I'll have to go with one of the early ones though; Shuckle. Despite low HP it makes an insane staller, especially in a sand offensive team thanks to secondary Rock typing.
20. Favorite Rock-type? Cradily. Odd choice, but it's a great yet underrated pokemon. it's also my favorite fossil pokemon, closely followed by both of Gen 5s fossils.
21. Favorite Ghost-type? Mismagius. I really wanted to pick Gengar for this slot, but Misdreavus just barely edges him out thanks to the ability to use Power Gem, which can come as quite a surprise for a lot of things that would switch in on it.
22. Favorite Dragon-type? Probably Dragalge, assuming we aren't counting pokemon that are only Dragon type when they Mega-Evolve. Poison/Dragon is one of the type combos I was hoping to see when 6th gen hit, so it was kind of a surprise when it was revealed that this was what Skrelp evolved into. Now if only they'd release its Adaptability ability...
23. Favorite Dark-type? Scrafty probably. Dark is kind of low on the list of my favorite types, but Scrafty I think perfectly emcompasses what I'd imagine a Dark/Fighting type should be. And it's great defensively, so that's a bonus too.
24. Favorite Steel-type? Dialga. I mostly wanted to avoid putting members of legendary duos/trios here, but this one really stands out, as it's one of the best defensive type combos in to game, even after Steel got nerfed to be neutral to Ghost and Dark. Gotta say Probopass runs a close second, though.
25. Favorite Fairy-type? Granbull, hands down. Besides Azumarill it's got to be the best physically offensive Fairy out there. This is one of the retypings they absolutely got right when Fairy was added, I think, as I really think the game needed something Fairy that was physically powerful.
26. Mew or Mewtwo? Mew. He's more versatile, and can be used in something besides the Uber tier.
27. Ho-oh or Lugia? Lugia. Both of them have great potential but Lugia can survive Stealth Rocks more easily.
28. Kyogre or Groudon? Kyogre, only because I so strongly gravitate toward Sapphire compared to Ruby.
29. Dialga or Palkia? Dialga. Palkia's defensive typing is nice too, but Dialga's got a lot more resistances going for it.
30. Reshiram or Zekrom? Zekrom. It looks cooler, to be honest.
31. Xerneas or Yveltal? This is a lot closer as I like both, but Xerneas edges this one out I think.
32. Favorite Gym Leader? Really tough choice... I think I'm gonna have to go with Byron though.
33. Favorite Pokémon game? Gen 3. The secret bases were bomb as fuck, and I really hope they make it into the remakes.
34. Team of Pokémon only from gen 1? Gengar, Venusaur, Scyther, Marowak, Tentacruel, Arcanine
35. Team of Pokémon only from gen 2? Crobat, Tyranitar, Quagsire, Espeon, Houndoom, Dunsparce
36. Team of Pokémon only from gen 3? Sceptile, Milotic, Camerupt, Cradily, Exploud, Salamence
37. Team of Pokémon only from gen 4? Torterra, Probopass, Mismagius, Staraptor, Lucario, Drapion
38. Team of Pokémon only from gen 5? Swoobat, Volcarona, Excadrill, Vanilluxe, Alomomola, Cincinno
39. Team of Pokémon only from gen 6? Florges, Aegislash, Avalugg, Dragalge, Clawitzer, Goodra
40. Favorite Legendary Pokémon? Probably Dialga. I'm not a huge fan of Ubers, nor am I all that much of a fan of the legendaries that aren't Ubers, but Dialga has a hell of a lot of functionality from what I can tell.
41. Favorite mega evolution? Mega Sceptile. I'll admit that it having Lightningrod is offputting at first, but it makes sense once you analyze it. And I've been wanting a Grass/Dragon for a while now. If only it got Technician it'd probably be my absolute favorite just for having the strongest Dragon Breath in the land.
42. Favorite Pokémon from gen 1? Gotta go with Gengar for this one.
43. Favorite Pokémon from gen 2? Dunsparce. Absolutely Dunsparce.
44. Favorite Pokémon from gen 3? Sceptile.
45. Favorite Pokémon from gen 4? Friggin Mismagius with the Power Gem all up in yo face.
46. Favorite Pokémon from gen 5? They added so many good ones... I guess Volcarona.
47. Favorite Pokémon from gen 6? Avalugg. Not that there's a lot to choose from.
48. Favorite starter Pokémon from any generation? I think I gotta go with Torterra on this one.
49. Favorite Eeveelution? It's pretty close, but Espeon just barely beats out Leafeon here.
50. If you were a Pokémon, what would you be and why? Until there's a tanuki pokemon that isn't an unevolved badger, I'm gonna stick with Mismagius, since I think it's the closest thing I'm gonna get to a straight-up mage that I like.

What do you remind Onyx of?
General | Posted 11 years agoTook this from Mr.
devin_otter. Comment and I'll try and answer these for ya :P
1. Tell you what animal/creature you remind me of.
2. Tell you what color I think fits you.
3. Tell you how I feel about you.
4. Tell you what song you remind me of.
5. Tell you my favorite OC of yours. (If you have one...)
6. Tell you what season you remind me of.
7. Tell you what food/drink you smell like in my head.
8. Think of a random nickname for you.
9. Tell you what element you remind me of.
10. Order you to put this in your journal without using the words 'tag' or 'dare'.
I'm gonna add a twist on that first question also; since most of ya'll are already represented by an animal of some type, I'll bar your chosen fursona species from the first question. For example, if you're a dragon, I can't answer "dragon" for the first question.

I'm bored and need a new journal, so Fursona Meme time
General | Posted 12 years agoI've seen this one floating around in a few dozen journals or so, and since I'm working out a new ref sheet anyway, I may as well take the opportunity to fill one of these things out too, as they're kinda related.
What made you choose the species of your main fursona?
- Back when I was still closeted, I wanted to make something to represent my id, where the fursona I had at the time was more my ego, and I decided that the tanuki, with their shapeshifting and illusion powers and exceptional balls, would be a perfect fit. Eventually Onyx came to represent me more fully than the previous fursona, and that one fell by the wayside as I embraced Onyx fully.
Does your fursona have the same personality as you?
- For the most part. Onyx is a slut, but beyond that, he's me. Very little differs, and only because of the differences between his past experiences and my own.
Does your fursona have the same likes and dislikes as you do?
- Absolutely. The only difference in that regard is how able he is to express those likes and dislikes.
Does your fursona look like you at all?
- So I've been told by most people who see me IRL and have seen my personal drawings of Onyx.
Is your fursona the same gender as you, if not why?
- Last I checked, I have a dick, and so does Onyx. I don't really have any sort of body dysmorphia and I'm not transgender, and I don't see any other reason why one's fursona would be a gender they aren't in the natural world.
Do you have more than one main fursona?
- I'd say no. I do have other characters, but at the moment only Onyx represents me enough that I'd consider him to be a persona.
Do you have a backstory for your fursona, if so does it have anything to do with your own history?
- Regarding the present day Onyx, I haven't really fleshed anything out besides lineage, but that is based on my family and lineage as it is presently; my maternal side, which is the side of my family predominantly afflicted with weight issues but ultimately the side I know better, is full-blooded tanuki, while my paternal side is a mixture of red panda and black bear, but is also the side I have less personal connection to. And just like in real life, Onyx's father and mother were divorced, and his father passed on when he was young, and Onyx also has a sister, though this fact very seldom comes up. Now, in regards to the second version of Onyx's backstory - where he's a druid in a medieval setting - this is a more fleshed-out backstory, but with very little relation to my real-life circumstances, so i won't bother going into comparing and contrasting that with real life.
Is your fursona mated, if so is it to your real life significant other?
- Nope. If/when I do have a boyfriend or husband or whatever, I doubt that'll chance Onyx's own availability.
Is there something special about your fursona that you think sets them apart from others?
- I think perhaps the fact that he looks like he could be represented by a naturally-existing animal, despite being a hybrid that couldn't exist IRL? Maybe this was more brought about by my making the details of the hybridization come after the physical details were settled rather than before. Like I started off with a tanuki, but wanted him thin rather than chubby, and wanted him with black fur rather than brown and tan, and those two differing traits eventually inspired my idea for his paternal lineage. I dunno. I guess I come across so many hybrid fursonas that are just hodge-podge or two or three species just mashed together in whatever way the creator feels like, and while that's all good, it just doesn't strike me as natural. So yeah, I guess the nature of Onyx's hybridization is what makes him unique above anything else.
Do you have much art of your main fursona?
- *glances at gallery* ...nope, not really. Just a hundred or so pics. Not that much. >_>
Would you ever consider parting with your main fursona, if so why?
- Not really. I've been Onyx for... probably damn near eight years now? I mean, if it happens, it happens. It happened before with Veridianedge, after all. But I don't have plans on it, and if and when it happens it'll probably be more of a drifting away than a split.
If you suit, do you have a suit of your main fursona?
- Nope. I'm way too much of a perfectionist to be satisfied with any sort of Onyx fursuit. I'd be going with body paint, prosthetics, the whole nine. None of these cartoon heads, no swimming in endless seas of foam padding, no sweating in layers of fake fur.
Have you ever roleplayed with your main fursona, or do you prefer not to?
- Used to do it ALL THE FUCKING TIME. I'm not so into the RP scene as I used to be, but I'll still have Onyx bone other guys every so often, if the mood strikes me.
Do you consider your main fursona to be a part of you in any way?
- Yeah. Again, I've had him for about eight years if memory serves, and his original role was to be a representation of my id. You can't put that much effort into developing a character that already is meant to be a reflection of you - even if it's more a reflection through a circus mirror - and not feel that it's part of you. I guess those that do feel that their main 'sonas aren't part of them have a distinct wall where they say, "This is me, and that is the character that represents me, and the two are not the same person." Once you start feeling that you and your fursona are the same person, that is what creates that bond that makes you feel it's part of you, I figure.

There's raffles, and then there's $1k Jailbird comic raffles
General | Posted 12 years agoYes, I know, I do a lot of raffle advertising. But I don't think I've ever seen or entered one with a prize of this magnitude.
krispup is offering a chance to be paired with him in a comic from the highly talented
jailbird worth $1,000! And this isn't one of those YCH type things either; you'll be able to collaborate with Kris to discuss the direction you want the comic to go! The deadline is very close though, I believe, so it'd be wise to jump on this fast! Not a damn one of you guys can afford to pass this up. Check it out here:

Job Update + Commissions
General | Posted 12 years agoFor anyone who's been following my job dramas, I figured I'd go ahead and update you on the situation. As of this past Friday I am no longer a KFC/Taco Bell employee. I finally decided to nut up and just turn in my uniform; these people have been jerking me around for this long, and even if I could have gotten things resolved, I already know the place is circling the drain. So as soon as I secured employment elsewhere, I quit there. When I went in today to pick up my final check, the place was in shambles: several parties in the lobby had been waiting upwards of fifteen minutes for their food, while drive-through had been waiting for even longer, and I learned of several other people leaving the store. There's literally only one or two people left there that know what the fuck they're doing. I'm pretty sure the place is gonna close down if this keeps up, and the management has nobody to blame but themselves. They'll of course blame the remaining staff as they always have, though, because the biggest problem I've seen in the store - beyond the lack of staff and hours and the horrible treatment of the staff, even - is the fact that the store manager and area coach are not willing to admit that there IS a problem. The first step to overcoming a weakness, IMO, is to actually recognize that there is one, and unless that happens, that place is toast.
Anyway, KFC/Taco Bell is no longer my problem, because as I mentioned, I already have a job elsewhere. Starting Tuesday, I'm gonna be working at Firehouse Subs. I'm still pretty fucking nervous since I'm pretty much starting from square one, but the place doesn't have a drive-through and seems less busy in general while still having about the same number of people on staff, which tells me things should be a bit more chill there. So I just have to actually learn procedures and the like and I should be fine.
Unfortunately, even though my employment problems are mostly resolved, that still leaves me with a week that I was out of a job, which is why I think I should open up a couple of commission slots for those interested. I do still owe a trade piece to someone and would like to get that out first, but once that's resolved I'm likely to be accepting two slots. If anyone happens to need my ToS, it's right here:

So... yep, that's about all.
