Not Dead

My Birthday.
Posted 10 years agoKind of crummy. Civic holiday. Had to work. Bummer.
Summertime.
Posted 10 years agoSo, pretty lazy summer. Working a new job with a pet food manufacturer and trying to get a lot of stuff done around the house. Also started doing some home-brewing, which has been lots of fun. Hence the lack of artwork. It's also more of a winter hobby for me, when I'm stuck indoors and can't garden.
I also noticed, apparently, that there's another Ori running around, a character belonging to
FlitchGlitch
Soo.. yeah.

Fall Approaches
Posted 11 years agoI just realized that almost a year has passed since I really updated this account so a little housekeeping is in order. Hauling stuff in from alternate accounts, moving old unfinished drawings and things into Scraps. I have time now, I suppose.
Summer was pleasant. I managed to get in a fair bit more gardening and several art classes. Unfortunately, I also lost my job. Well, to be honest, I quit. It was not an amiable parting and the story, I think, should remain untold for the time being.
More time to work on other things, I suppose.

Fall/Winter
Posted 12 years agoNow that the nice weather is pretty much over and I can't garden or do outdoors things anymore, it's back to painting and drawing and maybe some more continuing education. Work signed off for me to take some linux courses, which is awesome and work-related. They're also probably paying to let me go into Art History on the side for personal development. Woo!
Realization
Posted 12 years agoJust sitting back, having a beer, and checking out my little corner of the FA world and I realized I've got 1500 views. Granted, that's over several years, but no less an accomplishment, I figure. So this is just a heartfelt thanks to all those who've dropped by and read my stories, looked at my art, and otherwise stopped in to see what I'm up to or all about. As an amateur creator of things, I very much appreciate it.
Also, I seem to be carrying a couple of gifts on steam. If anyone finds themselves in need of a copy of the original Portal or Bioshock, shoot me a message and I'll hook you up. I have two of the former and one of the latter I can apparently gift.

Unfinished
Posted 12 years agoSo many of my class projects are unfinished. Working full time tends to curtail a lot of my drawing to weekends and whenever I can summon up the energy after work. That and a lot of this stuff is mostly from photos I'm not the owner of so I hesitate to finish 'em off and not have much else to do with them. But I'll hopefully be visiting the zoo once the weather nices up and get a few pictures of my own to work with.
Late to the Party
Posted 12 years agoJust a little, but I'm registered for Fur-Eh! 2013. See you there!
One Door Closes
Posted 12 years agoAnother coloured pencils class has come to a close. I think I'm starting to get a little better, though I still seem to have a huge problem with values. I just keep making stuff too light. Oh, sure, I can photograph it and fix it in Photoshop afterwards but that just won't cut it. I definitely need to step up my game there. I've got another class starting up immediately, right on the heels of this one. It's the second half of the coloured pencil thing.. only this time with more colour. Yay!
Arts!
Posted 13 years agoBeen kind of busy with the new job and haven't had a chance to prep and post any of my recent drawings. Soon, though! And I've been considering a new avenue going into 2013. Since going to school full time is still way out of my league, I have found a happy medium. There's a continuing education course at the University which is a three-year program targeted at adult learners. I can take pretty much a single course per term after work and complete it after a few years. Plus there's a certificate involved. Very, very tempting.
Good News
Posted 13 years agoSo, a couple months after quitting my job with Acrodex, I managed to secure new employment. I'll be working at one of the local universities as a desktop guy. Seems like a fun and challenging job. Just in the nick of time, too. Being unemployed fir Christmas kind of sucks. Still doing the art class thing. That's coming along pretty well. I think I might try another painting or colored pencils class in the future. Woo!
Work work.
Posted 13 years agoStill lookin'. Damn, maybe it's time to get out of the IT biz. The people around here are kind of jerky and the work is unstable.
Work
Posted 13 years agoSo, quit my job a couple of weeks ago. I got tired of dealing with a dishonest and somewhat hostile company. Had a couple of leads and most I've turned down. While the pay is nice, 50 and 55K annually to start, they just haven't been what I've been looking for. So, in the interim, I'm doing a little contract work to pay the bills and playing around in drawing class again. A little patience and discipline and I'll be back on top sooner or later.
August
Posted 13 years agoLots going on in the last three months.
Due to crazy-pants management and my unwillingness to put up with stupid bullshit on my work site, I managed to get myself a forced transfer to another contract while, in the process, lodging a complaint for workplace bullying. So I'm kind of working still but looking like crazy for a new job because, as I'm finding, Acrodex is corrupt as all hell.
Had a visit from my mom for a bit over the summer. That was pretty decent. Logic's mom came out, too, so we made arrangements to have them travel together. Fun times.
Lots of yard work. Roofing still pending.
More art classes. Now that the much more fun Fall/Winter schedule is open, I'll probably be registering for a few more. We'll see what happens. Anyway, posting a few new bits and pieces as I continue trying out new stuff.

Classes
Posted 13 years agoThe two-session animal painting class is over, sadly. I'll be posting my last painting shortly. Good stuff! Next week marks the start of the coloured pencils classes. I'm really looking forward to that one. Still waiting for the materials list and apparently they've worked out a deal with the art store I usually shop at so I can probably score a nice discount while I'm picking stuff up.
Kind of half-toying with the idea of signing up for the local school's two-year art program. The only down side is the first year can be taken part time. The second year has to be full time, which makes working a bit tough. Maybe once I score a few more certifications and score a much more badass line of employment. I have no idea what I'd do with a little art certificate. It'd be schooling more for fun than for anything too serious.

Fur Eh!
Posted 13 years agoWell, that was sort of short and sweet. Not too bad a convention for a first time and I'd probably patron it again in the future. Got to meet a couple local folks and thinking about looking into acquiring my first fursuit.
Con Note
Posted 13 years agoGood convention thus far. Small, but cozy. Interesting seeing a lot of the local community, which I haven't really interacted with since moving to Alberta.
Cleaned up.
Posted 13 years agoThere we go. Just a little housekeeping. Got all the old junk removed and the newer stuff in.
Back to work! *whipcrack*
Also, for those interested, I'll be floating about the Fur Eh! convention being held in Edmonton, Alberta this weekend. Considering I live only a few blocks away and it would be shameful if I didn't show.
