Texas Furry Fiesta 2014
Posted 11 years agoI went to Texas Furry Fiesta 2014 and all I got were these photos:
https://www.flickr.com/photos/tasty.....7641777969524/
Well, I got some other things, too. In general I had a great time with those I found. In fact, I had really great times with them, and I wish to be with them even more.
For so many others, the meetings were fleeting or not at all. In fact, only after the con was over and I looked at my photos did I realize that I did know them, at least on the internet by name. But I didn't realize they were who they were until it was too late.
I'll try to be better with introducing myself to people in the future. It's easier sometimes to just be a bird. :>

Posted 12 years agoI have my photos from MFF 2013 posted up on my Flickr page. Feel free to look at them here:

I'm not thrilled with the quality of my photos. There's always one setting that I forget which could make a good photo great. But ADHD sets in and I forget. Also, composition. Need better composition. But there are some photos in there that do shine.
At a big convention like this, I'm not in the public as much as I would like and even for a convention that is all pretty much in one hotel, I can't be everywhere. So I missed a lot of things, and I missed a lot of people.
I hope to go back again next year!

Went to Califur
Posted 12 years agoThis year, Califur was done on the cheap. I took only two hours of vacation time and only spent two nights in the hotel, and enlisted a roommate.
And I flew down rather than drove down. When driving alone, it actually costs more in gas/maintenance than it did to fly. I can't take as much with me, but I still took more than I needed to on my flight.
I brought two fursuits, but I only managed to go out in Aventinus. I hope you got to see the lizard man some time Saturday night. I was in and out of the suit for about 8 hours.
Poor Caspian stayed in the hotel room the entire time and I took him back as clean and dry as when I arrived. That's the first con I've gone to since I've owned him that I did not wear him outside for at least a short time. Poor neglected birdy.
The con started out pretty shaky when I arrived Friday night with a train of baggage. The hallways were swamped with people and all I wanted to do was get to my room. I heard someone pulled the fire alarm, which caused a limited evacuation, and thus a stream of people trying to go back up.
I was a bit cranky at first dealing the the crowds from the very moment I arrived, but after a shower and a pizza and an impromptu visit by a group of friends, and I felt a lot better.
Friday night was spent in various rooms, socializing with old and new friends. I did not get to see the hotel common area again till 4:30am.
Saturday, registration had a short line, and was not nearly as broken as previous years. So that was good.
I was told that I had to keep my lens cap on my camera when in the dealers room. The con claims dealers complained about people stealing their art by taking photos of it. Really? Has this 'ever' happened?? Last year, I couldn't take photos of the dance. This year I can only take photos in the hallways. I know of no other con that does this.
I felt pretty negative at being treated as a potential thief. I did notice at least one CFAC member furtively look around me to check the condition of my camera. So that really curtailed much of my interest in taking any photos. I'll post the 100 or so I did take after I got out of my funk. CF repeatedly implements policies that leave me with a bad taste in my mouth.
I ditched the fursuit parade in favor of an extended lunch with old and new friends. Sounds like I made the right choice as there was such confusion regarding the start time of the parade. I'm not surprised. When I asked about a program schedule, registration told me to go to con store. Con store told me they don't know anything about program books and I should check the TV monitors for the schedule.
Foxtrack was the best guy ever because he got me a program guide. He's a good egg. I should talk with him more often. Program guide said 2:30, but by the time I was thinking about getting ready for the parade, it seemed to already be starting at 2! Oh well, guess I'll go to lunch instead.
Saturday night was more of a continuation of room-con for me. But I spent a good chunk of the evening in Aventinus. I wandered the hallways being a lizardman for a while, then went to a couple gatherings in the hotel rooms. The BLFC open party was great. That pineapple-upside down cake drink really went to my head!
I hit up the dance in Aventinus for the last 20 minutes or so. I'm glad I managed to at least do 'something' at the con. The dances are always important to me, but it's so hard when I want to do everything at once!
I stumbled around as a lizardman for another hour or so, then stumbled around as a human for another hour or so.
The lack of a proper lobby really hurt the con experience this year, but the poolside lobby was a good attempt by the con to make lemonade out of lemons. The pool did get a lot more use this year, and the hotel was kind enough to allow fun activities out there till pretty late each night. Maybe they can continue that next year even after lobby renovation is complete.
The hotel really bent over backwards, IMHO, to make my experience as pleasant as possible. I applaud their efforts and patience because there are many examples of furries running around that would have left me incredibly exasperated. I frequently wanted to apologize to any witnesses to the somewhat uncivilized behavior that occurred in their presence. However, the hotel staff always kept a smile on their face.
And then just as soon as I got there, I had to go. Sunday, I had to check out for my plane ride back. I think I could have enjoyed the con a lot more if I could have stayed another day either before or after. But life demanded that this year I cut my visit short.
I met a bunch of people for the first time that I want to meet again, either at a con or for a private visit. I really hope to get those opportunities in the near future.

FC 2013 mini-report
Posted 12 years agoFC 2013 was awesome. I really had a good time, even though I missed so much while doing other things. I only have so much energy!
I got out in Caspian a few times, mostly in the evenings during the dances, and especially during Frolic at The Agenda Lounge! That bird still can get around. For as old as he is, I still love him to little pieces, and will until all that's left of him is little pieces.
Frolic was pretty damn cool. I'm not that big a fan of the bar itself, but the people who were there really made it a great time. Dancing there in Caspian was a blast. I later came back in a kinda fetishy, stripey clingy velvety animaly thing with leather harness, just so I can take pictures in the last couple hours over there.
During the days, and during the parade, I walked around in my fleece lizardman costume, made by
midori8 Damn I like that lizard a lot. His name is Aventinus, but I didn't have any badges made for him because the first time i really got to see him was when I picked him up at the hotel when I checked in!
My other suits made momentary appearances when I could get them out. I didn't do nearly as much fursuiting as I wished I could. It's really tough to be social out of fursuit and also spend a bunch of time being all fuzzy, scaley, and/or feathery, too.
I took a boatload of photos, but it's going to take some time for me to process them all. I've got post-con visitors who will be around for some time, and I've got all this stuff to unpack still! Then after that I can dive into the 800 or so pictures I took. I'm such a photo whore.
I met so many new people there, and I want to know all of you a little (or a lot) better as time goes on. Furry is such a great community. It attracts so many wonderful people.

MFF 2012 Preview
Posted 13 years agoI am still in the process of editing my photos from MFF 2012. I will likely have them up on Flickr tonight. I'll post a link in my next journal entry here when they are ready for everyone to see.
Meanwhile, no full report yet, but the more I think about it, the more I kinda think that I never really got into the flow at MFF this year. Last year was incredible; everything went well. This year...well, there were some really great moments, but beyond those moments, the rest is something of a fog.
I didn't really meet any new people, and I barely came into contact with most of the people I already knew from over the years. I just felt very disconnected from everything and everyone around me. I don't know how this year could feel so different from last year.
This is nothing against the con. MFF continues to make itself better as a con every single year. And the hotel staff is the bestest ever. There is nothing I can bitch about that is a direct result of the con or the hotel.

TFF 2012 photos
Posted 13 years agoI took photos at Texas Furry Fiesta 2012. All the ones that came out at least 'ok' are up on my Flickr page at: http://www.flickr.com/photos/tastye.....7629122375314/
Most are pretty uninspired. I was concentrating on figuring out how to use my flash correctly this time. But composition, what little I usually do, suffered greatly. And my flashwork still needs some improvement.
And since I didn't know that many people at the con, I didn't take as many 'people' pictures, so it's mostly cute fursuits.

On my way to TFF
Posted 13 years agoI've kept it kinda quiet, but I'll be heading off to Texas Furry Fiesta later tonight.
It'll be my first time at TFF. I'm not sure what to expect, but I'm sure I'll find some amount of trouble to get mixed up in.
Look for the bird. He needs a drink.

Going to TFF 2012
Posted 14 years agoSo with the airfare sales going on 'RIGHT NOW', if you're looking to go to a con in the near future, buy your tickets today. Seriously. MFF, FC, TFF, or whatever else may be going on in the next few months. I've mostly seen tickets going for $99 each way for most airlines.
With that, I decided to push the big red button and buy a ticket for Texas Furry Fiesta in February. It'll be the first time this bird will see Texas.

Antheria 2011
Posted 14 years agoOh crap, I forgot to post a link here regarding Antheria.
So yeah, I went to Antheria a few weeks ago. It's the tiniest furry con I've ever been to, but I've been to even smaller fan-based conventions.
My report can be read here: http://tastyeagle.livejournal.com/300684.html
My pictures can be seen here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/tastye.....7627821422408/
And the list of beers I drank are presented below:
In the hotel room:
Anderson Valley Boont ESB
Anheuser Busch Shock Top
Big Sky IPA
Humboldt Brown Hemp Ale
New Belgium Somersault
Rabbits Foot Biere de Miele
Rabbits Foot Peach Cider
And at Naja's Place:
Brunehaut St. Martin Cubee de Noel
Great Divide Smoked Baltic Porter
Great Divide Rumble IPA
Julian Hard Cider
Leffe Blond
Liefmans Fruitesse
Rogue Hazelnut Brown Nectar
Sir Perry English Style Pear Cider
Verhaeghe Echt Kriekenbier
Victory Wild Devil
Wychwood King Goblin
Oh, Naja's Place, why could it not be closer to my place?
