Health Update (related to art)
Posted 6 years agoAs I posted on Twitter:
I've been having slowly mounting pains in my wrists and forearms for about a year now and just had an occupational therapy appointment about it today.
In addition to stretches and more breaks, they also prescribed reducing aggravating activities.
As it happens, the things that aggravate wrist/forearm pain are everyday workplace/artmaking/recreation activities for me:
- using a keyboard
- using a mouse
- one-handed typing on a phone
- reading books while walking
Thus, I might be a bit less loquacious on messaging apps (we'll see!).
I'll also take some time off manipping, and when I come back to it, I'll reduce the length of streams (probably to about two hours at a go). I'll continue sketching, as that's less intensive!
After all, we know what happens to horses with injured legs!
Thanks for understanding!

Not Dead!
Posted 7 years agoI've been on Twitter, but haven't been active too much around here. Put short: life happened! June was... a month, and then at the beginning of July, I decided I'd be moving to a new place. The move (and its attendant duties: shopping, cleaning, cooking, etc.) and late nights at work have consumed my month so far. I plan, however, on getting to more art soon, so keep an eye out!
Update (esp. for commissioners)
Posted 8 years agoHey all!
Just wanted to let y'all know that I'm not dead; I've just been really busy in "real life" and haven't had much time to do commissions. My apologies if I haven't responded to an email. I will get to it.
And yes, I have done some significant personal artwork recently. Personal art is necessary for me to recharge my creative batteries, especially when I am so busy. I hope you excuse that.
Anyway, I am still alive! I am still taking commissions!
(Though I do reserve the right to turn down any proposal without stating a reason for it, and I forewarn commissioners that you might have to wait several weeks to a couple months for a piece, depending on how my life goes. If you've paid, though, I will finish your piece.)

Life Update: Busyness!
Posted 9 years agoHey all!
Just wanted to assure all my commissioners that I *will* get to their pieces, but it might be a couple weeks for some. Life has gotten pretty busy and spare evenings for photomanips are scarcer than in the past.
I appreciate your patience! :==8)

Friend's Grandfather caught in Baton Rouge Flood
Posted 9 years agoHey everyone!
My friend and frequent commissioner lobolito has been personally affected by the worst natural disaster in the US this year: the Baton Rouge floods, which have displaced 40K people and damaged 100K homes. His grandfather's home has been flooded and thus is in need of repairs, replaced furniture, and the like.
To raise money, he's created a GoFundMe page. If you have something to give, contribute here: https://www.gofundme.com/2kfz8sq4

Check out my book reviews on [adjective][species]!
Posted 9 years agoI'm happy to announce that I'm now a regular contributor to the blog [adjective][species], which administers the annual Furry Poll and attempts to analyze the fandom and elements of culture relevant to it.
This year to date, I've made two posts on the blog, both as part of [a][s]'s new "Furry Canon" series, the blog's attempt to compile a "list of novels and stories that we believe serve as cultural touchstones for the furry community." You can read more about the overall project here.
For my first two posts, I reviewed Brian Jaques's Redwall and Anna Sewell's Black Beauty.
I'd love to hear your perspectives on the books, so hop on over to [a][s] and leave a comment! :==8)

What tablet (under $100) would you recommend?
Posted 9 years agoSo, I upgraded my computer and my tablet, a large, nearly 5-year-old Monoprice, is still not functioning properly.
Thus, I'm looking for a new one, with a budget of about $100. What would you guys recommend I get?
It must be compatible with Windows 10, Photoshop CS2, and Clip Studio Paint.

FBA Adoptions: Cheval and Holokai
Posted 10 years agoHey guys!
I just found out that the FBA Committee has allowed me to adopt buckhopper's characters Lance Cheval (C, Horse) and Nohea Holokai (C, Orca). It's an honor to be entrusted with these two fantastic characters, not coincidentally representing two of my favorite species. Buck did some fantastic character work with these two, and I don't take this responsibility lightly.
With that in mind, I want to clarify that I will not keep a tight rein on these characters. I understand that some of you are very good authors and artists, and I know that you can contribute in some ways that I can't. Thus, feel free to write stories involving Lance and Nohea. I only ask that you consult with me beforehand if you're doing something that affects their personal storylines.
I can be contacted via the FBA Slack chat, Skype (note me for the username), or email at khedvu [at] aol [dot] com.
For those of you unfamiliar with Lance Cheval, you can read up on him at these links. My fanart of the big drafter is here.
Nohea Holokai's backstory is covered here, and an epic poster of him is here.

Stranded in Nashville by the Flypocalypse
Posted 10 years agoWhen I finally land tomorrow at 6:30pm, I will have spent 45 consecutive hours in airports.
The most annoying thing? When they cancelled my flight, they had me pick up my checked luggage--which keeps me out of the much more comfortable terminal, also the only place in the airport with food, until tomorrow morning. I also can't lug a nearly 50-lb bag around downtown Nashville if I wanted too.
Toledo is a miffed horse.

TMITuesday: Life events/choices I might change
Posted 10 years agoFirst on the list will be really weird to say here, but if I went back and changed my 7th grade English curriculum so that we wouldn't be doing an assignment that required pictures of dragons, I strongly suspect that I would never have found anthro art and its communities online. Don't take this the wrong way--I love my friendships with you guys and the many good experiences I've had with art! But I can't help but wonder how my life would have played out without that motif woven through it.
Second, I'd give my younger self a primer in the purpose and variety of undergrad internships. And probably not gone to grad school.
Third--and this is one I hadn't pondered too much before--but I really wonder what it would have been like to have done my LDS mission *before* my freshman year of college instead of after. That really broke my sense of camaraderie in ways I could never fully regain.

If you could alter one choice/action in your life history...
