explained to me how to keep your icon anti-aliased and transparent while uploading it to fa. Just save your icon as a transparent png, but make the filename icon.gif or picture.gif. Just make sure you attatch the .gif extention to the file name when saving it. And then you're good to go! :D

;; so for the longest time I've been trying to get an icon I want to use to be completely transparent when I upload it to FA. When I save it as a transparent .png and upload it, FA turns the background black. When I save it as a .GIF, the background has a thin border of white pixels all around it. What am I doing wrong? Anybody have any ideas?

Yay! I'm pleased to say that our new roomie is and she will be joining in our goofballery this anthrocon :D Thank you to everybody who helped us find someone!
