Anti-furry blogger learns furry acceptance (PS I'm Awesome)

Lt Pandez - the backstory to the character
Posted 12 years agoPicture it. Cheron. Before the war. Grumblings are beginning among some of the people that being white on the right is better, and vice versa. A number of Cheronions band together, believing that such things are trival, decide to flee the planet to form a colony of their own.
Along the way - an accident! The ship is damaged. They set down on a small planet, not exactly what they were looking for. It's cooler than they had wanted. The vegetation is not what they had planned on. But they were among the most intelligent and creative of the population on Cheron.
They decide that genetic manipulation is the solution to their problem. They augment their musculature and skin to be thicker, and thus warmer. They change their digestion capabilities so they can make use of the native vegetation and animal life. Over the years they start adding fur to their physical form, as they discover the planet is moving into a miniature ice-age. Years, decades, centuries go by. Through intermingling and their tweaking of genetic makeup their black and white halves become patterns. Stripes, spots, splotches - all sorts of random patterns develop. But they don't care about such things. They become a thriving civilization despite their hardships.
One day, a young man named Pandez, who happens (by chance) to resemble a panda on one side and a reverse panda on the other, is exploring far away from the safety of the former-cheronions' main city. Suddenly, in the sky, a flash of light! A strange meteor crashes nearby. Pandez investigates and finds not a meteor but a crashed shuttle! He finds inside a human male in a strange uniform, unconscious. An ace in his scientific field, he studies the equipment and realizes he has a good chance of sending a signal out to the stars in hopes of aiding in the rescue. He must decide, does he dare, or does he flee and pretend he was never there. As he sees the blood dripping down from the forehead of the being on the console he knows he HAS to help somehow. His sense of compassion and morality wins out.
After an hour of examining the equipment he finds the communication equipment, and sends a signal. Then, he begins the arduous task of carrying this being all the way back home. Two full days it takes to reach the city. Exhausted, he collapses at the gates. He is revived several hours later by the medical crew. They were able to save the male being he brought with them, barely. Over the next week he stays by the side of the man he brought back and helps nurse him back to health. The man regains consciousness occasionally, and Pandez manages to feed and provide water for him. Finally after nearly 10 days they are contacted by a star fleet vessel. They make contact with the official dignitaries of the group, and some are invited up to the ship in orbit, pandez among them. While the rest of his people decide to be friendly, but not apply for official status with this "federation", pandez feels a compulsion to explore, and increase his scientific knowledge.
Before the ship leaves orbit, he petitions the captain to take him, knowing he may very well never see his species again. But he has no strong ties to anyone back home. His thirst is for knowledge, for exploration, for helping those who need help. The captain agrees, and brings him to Earth, where he begins his adaptation to life in the Federation. After years of study, and devoting himself to science and increasing the medical advancements of the federation he reaches the rank of Lt Senior grade, and - wonder of wonders - is accepted when he applies to transfer to the Enterprise - the federation flagship!
When he boards he is greeted by the captain of the vessel, Jean Luc Picard, who has captained the ship for nearly 8 years now - and was the man whom he had nursed to health those many years ago back when HE was just a Lieutenant. He didn't know how long his tour on the Enterprise would last, but for as long as they would let him, he would be more than happy to serve it out. He settles into into his life there, serving double duty; part time medical assistant, part time medical researcher. And while this may be the HISTORY of Pandez and his people, his true adventures are just beginning...

How Levar Burton and Wil Wheaton are simply awesome people !

This past weekend at Ottawa Comiccon I got a picture with Levar and Wil together http://i.imgur.com/KlQYvWN.jpg
Well immediately after that second pic, after not having seen Levar for 9 months, he looked at me and said "where's the panda head". I had just taken it off and left it outside so i could get a real pic with them - he may have noticed the feetpaws were still on LOL.
As I'm explaining that to him Wil looks at me and says "Hey - you're Lt Pandez - I've talked to you on twitter!"
In my head i turned into a 13 year old meeting justin bieber ... yet somehow i maintained enough control to say "holy crap i can't believe you remember that" and not "SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE" like i was going to.
When I came back in a few minutes later for THIS pic http://i.imgur.com/UfgYhtx.jpg He said "You look just like your twitter icon".
Both Wil and Levar were such genuinely awesome people.
Wil was actually very impressed with the moving jar "IT MOVES" when I smiled in suit :D
Although when I think about it when levar walked back to his signing area he passed me in full suit again and tapped me on the shoulder saying "much better". So - was that a positive comment on the coolness of the suit, or was Levar Burton calling me ugly IRL ?!?

FCN 2013 Recap / Video

So I did a routine for the open mic - and they asked me to perform it again for the variety show.
All i can say is - damn i need a haircut or something.

I meant to post this yesterday - and of course I forgot cause I'm super lame.
Did you know - YESTERDAY, Feb 9th, is officially 6 MONTHS FROM INDYFURCON!?!?!?!??
Oh my gosh it's coming up fast! Aug 9th to 11th at the Sheraton at Keystone crossings :D

YES hotel and convention registrations ARE OPEN so go book now!! :D
Did you know - the theme is "Back to School"? We think this should be a fun idea for you guys! I know there were some issues last year with some fraternity boys also at the hotel with us but I assure you this theme was already picked out and in place MONTHS before ifc2012 even happened! Also let's one up those frat boys and show them what partying BACK TO SCHOOL style really means!!!
Did you know we have an expanded staff and board of directors this year? After the growth of last year we wanted to make sure we expanded to properly take care of YOU guys - cause you guys that come to the con - YOU are Indyfurcon. The board isn't Indyfurcon - the staff isn't Indyfurcon - YOU amazing wonderful people that come and enjoy our little convention are what makes Indyfurcon what it is!

2gryphon are scheduled to host some panels and put on some fun shows for you guys!
We're working on some other things as well - but they're being kept hush hush until we can (hopefully) work out the details!

nightprowler had three awesome years as chairman! But at iFC we have a 3 year rule in our bylaws to get new fresh ideas constantly coming through so previous programming head 
roxas is now our chair for iFC 2013-2015!

With roxas stepping up to be chair, I was elected as new programming head! I want to make this a super fun year - but I NEED HELP! Do you have some fun ideas on what we should have for our "Back to School" theme? Posted 13 years agoHad a blast this con. Whose Lion was fun. Fursuiting was fun. Best new thing i tried was voice acting - whoever filmed me in that panel shouting "DAMN THOSE BEAVERS" please get me the clip of that ^_^
Good food, good furs, good booze, good god i'm tired.

iFC 2013: My New Position!

Did I ever mention I'm now the new head of programming for iFC2013?
With roxas taking over as iFC's Chairman there's been a huge re-vamp in staff and board members, including my shifting into his old position.
I've never really done programming, other than host a couple panels at a few cons, but it's a challenge I'm eagerly looking forward to tackling!
If you have any programming ideas / want to host a panel / etc please email me over at

Even if you have something to bring my way that's not programming related - stuff about the con in general - drop me a line anyways!
We can only get better if we hear from you on what YOU want the con to be :)
