I want to go help! :)
General | Posted 14 years agoI have been craving, almost thirsting, to go do something good.
I've already decided that once I get a mode of transportation that I am going to join Hospice. I am going to become a companion for a dying person who has no one on this Earth. Personally, I am terrified of dying. Death itself doesn't scare me, but the process of dying terrifies me. When I die, I want someone to be by my side. Family, friends, doctors, nurses, a religious figure of someone not even of my own belief... I don't care. A perfect stranger with a big heart would be fine. Just someone.
Lots of people feel that way, and yet, they have no one.
Hospice has a program, I forget the name off the top of my head, Angel Something, but my friend in nursing told me about it. It is for volunteers to be companions to those without anyone who are dying. This is a huge gift to give someone. The gift of thinking something nice as their last thought, knowing someone is holding their hand and will think of their memory throughout their own lives. Isn't that a tremendous gift?
It's not for the faint of heart. Some people cannot handle this, but I can. I've already held a dying friend before. I was happy that I was there with her. She had someone and that is all I could think about. At least she had someone. Giving this to a perfect stranger will only enrich the lives of the dying, the volunteer and the Hospice team at large.
Also, I got two luxury down pillows recently for my birthday. I've never had luxury pillows before. I love them so much. I want to keep them, but I am thinking of giving one to my mom who is bedridden with lupus and rheumatoid arthritis. It would benefit her tremendously. I hope it will ease her neck pain. These pillows are so full of down that they bounce back into fluffy shape instantly. They support the neck and are cool to the touch and warm when you need it. So, I'll give one to her. :) I'll give her the big king-sized one I got.
If any of you have inspiring stories of things you have done or plan to do, or know of anyone who needs help that I can advertise, please note me! :) I'd love to post journals about you all!
Peace and love.
