100 word story
Posted 2 years agoRays break through the branches dancing in the wind, sinking heat into my fur. Ears covered, pacing along the towpath; eyes darting, seeking, searching for anything and nothing. Water's peaceful skin broken only by ducks diving deep, searching yet returning empty. Suddenly, darkness. The unfazed water continues followed by the path, swallowed by unseen walls. I stare, listen, smell, yet nothing amiss; wind whistles at my back, trees sway anticipating action. I turn around, golden rays beaming through branches, familiar scents fill my nose. Paw prints stare back as I face forwards, entering the desolate portal, into an infinite nothing.
It's been a while since I uploaded any writing on here, this is a little vent piece. Sometimes you have to keep going even when there's no reason to, the only thing which matters is that you do.
Sometimes we get caught by complacency, unsatisfied with where we are yet unwilling to move from our comfortable and familiar spot. It may not seem so bad when faced by uncertainty, but remember why you're here.
This was inspired by a photo of the canals I took (you can see it here), standing above a long, dark tunnel. They're terrifying the first few times venturing in, but they hold mystery, and many echos.
