[14 Julliet/Bastille Day Weekend] State of the Fops
General | Posted 3 years agoIf you do not understand English, here is my statement on all cases and controversies regarding AnthroCon, FWG, SFWA, and the 1st Amendment of the United States Constitution of 1789 as opposed to the promises made to my people upon their forcible importation to New France or Louisiana or Texas/Galveston: https://youtu.be/aQ2De8VcSLw
Freedom in Defense of Slavery is Treason.
Texas is in the wrong.
The Supreme Court of the United States is in the wrong.
Black Lives Matter. Black Lives Have been making Furry Art since before the Caves of Lescaux or any other citation you may provide.
I am not open for commissions via any method, means of communication, or form of passage or post that requires violations of my oath to not contribute to slavery.
I refuse to comment on AnthroCon.
I refuse to comment on Chicago.
I refuse to comment on New York.
I refuse to comment on Paris.
I refuse to comment on Wein, Österlich.
I refuse to comment on any matter in any language I understand that does not understand this simple fact: none of the founders of the United States of America understood "anti-Slavery" as including all of us or all of the people who write, draw, frame, join, joint, or create any sort of work within the United States of America or France.
On this weekend I say to those of you who only speak English: do not allow this country to burn. Do not violate your promises to your friends. Do not forget those who we have already lost.
If you do not remember the 1970s, remember the 1980s. If you do not remember the 1980s, remember the 1990s. If you do not remember the 1990s, remember the 2000s. If you do not remember the 2000s, please do not look at my porn unless you were born in 2000. If you do not remember the 2000s, please do not violate the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act in accessing FurAffinity. If you do not remember the 2020s, you have lied about your age.
I write programs to enable artists to create things that I dreamed of seeing in the 1980s. There was no freedom in the United States of America to be as autistic or as deaf as me, then. There was no freedom to be like my great-grandparents in Lorraine in 1870. There was no freedom to be aware of written language in my languages in 1670. There was no France in 1270. There was no territory, state, nation, tribe, collective, or state that could possibly be aware of the beauty of our art in 70 GYA, except the ones who viewed us from space.
I write programs to let me see. I write code to let me hear. I write poetry to help me feel. I post to FA when I am physically capable.
If you want to read this in French, I have one simple phrase for all of you: WE MUST DISSENT. https://youtu.be/iwqN3Ur-wP0
If you can hear that, if you can think that, if you can remember the power of those words: WE MUST DISSENT.
If you think that fiction can never be reality: WE MUST DISSENT.
If you think it takes magic to interpret words: WE MUST DISSENT.
If you think your HIV status makes you safe in the Americas: WE MUST DISSENT.
If you think that the WHO and CDC are tools of anti-White conspiracy: YOU MUST BE REJECTED FROM MY BLOGS.
If you think that any tool, trade, or craft I know or have known is not studied by the FCC or CSS/NIST? YOU MUST BE REJECTED FROM THIS JOURNAL.
If you believe that false belief is a uniquely American, French, Irish, Catholic, Australian, Japanese, Chinese, Ethiopian, Eritrean, Rwandan, or Russian capability: YOU MUST STUDY ANOTHER LANGUAGE OR READ ANOTHER DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE OR CONSTITUTION.
If you do not want to see brave men shoot innocent children or shirk their responsibilities and allow the slaughter of children in Texas: 1824 was not the first. MOSES AUSTIN was not the first Anglo. Remember the lessons of Cristofo Colombo et Cortez:
WE
MUST
DISSENT.
There are no flags over Texas that have not defended slavery at some point. Do not make another.

Welp
General | Posted 3 years agoDoes anyone have a copy of TabbieWolf's bartending thing from [oh god that must have been a decade ago] when I lived in not-Quincy but more Central/Davis Camberville?
My copy has gone missing missing and I'm trying to show a furry friend (gwaland/sky) some of the stuff from it because it was awesome but I only have the WIPs saved.

[cw death, hiv/aids] The Usual
General | Posted 4 years agoGet tested.
I don't want to learn another furry friend has died between my journal posts by reading an obit.
I miss everyone from MFF a lot, but I miss the man I could never talk to the most.
Goodbye, Chitown. Maybe next year I'll be able to sit there without everything frozen to my face.

[weasyl mirror/commissions update] State of the Atelier
General | Posted 7 years agoJanuary turned out to be an incredibly over-busy and over-scheduled month for me. I went directly from dealing with getting my legal gender marker update completed with the state of California into FC, followed a few days later by USENIX Enigma (a usable security/privacy conference, more related to my video games work than art/writing), then moving my apartment into storage while I was headed out to Phoenix, Arizona for interviews.
The good news is that the professional events have gone very well. The bad news is that I've been overwhelmed with professional games/infosec work and have not had time to really make a lot of progress on furry writing or art. There's also quite a few "small worlds" problems with this overlap; interacting in infosec+games+emulation circles means I end up having to talk to people I would rather not have to deal with face to face (or at all, in some cases) out of my need to stay up to date on the world of computer network security and privacy.
Moving has also turned out to be... ridiculously expensive. I've had to scale back a bunch of my personal expenses and continue to defer paying for transition related health costs. This really sucks, but mostly represents me optimizing for continued access to estrogen and anxiety medications at the cost of not being able to follow through on my plans for bottom surgery this year. I am hoping that things work out ok so that it can still happen, but right now the big challenge is uncertainty about where I'll be living next month, much less where I can get appropriate gender-affirming care in the near future.
This unfortunately also means I'm canceling on attending Anthro New England due to bad timing financially. Sorry to those of you who wanted to see me there. TFF may also end up being canceled for finances.

Commissions in 2019
General | Posted 7 years agoI'm back in California for the next few weeks, pending some updates from $dayjob and travel grants.
Folks who have work queued up for me: let me know if you have updates for me here or via DM/email.
State of my queue is available on the document linked from commission info on FA or Weasyl.
I will be opening for FC delivery work TOMORROW, 2019/01/05. Prices will be updated on the commissions info pane here and on Weasyl. If you do not need to have items shipped/printed for FC, there will be a substantial discount.
Happy new year, everyone.

[Life update] 2018 in Retrospect
General | Posted 7 years agoSince it's the end of the year, I'd like to take a moment to reflect on how 2018 has treated me and what I'm hopeful for in 2019.
First: 2018 sucked. On pretty much every front. My biological father finally died after spending 2 years fighting an incredibly rare and invasive form of bile duct, liver, and pancreatic cancer. I'm glad that he had reasonable health for about a year of this process, since that gave me an opportunity to say some goodbyes and finally really talk to him completely about what did and didn't work out well growing up. I regret that I couldn't convince him to finish The Left Hand of Darkness before he passed, but I suppose that is incredibly apropos as none of us get to choose when we say our final goodbyes. He will be missed, even if he is only remembered in songs and tales from those of us who can't safely use his name.
On the mental health front, it's been a mixed blessing. 2018 is the first year where I have had steady access to the hormones I need to stay alive (mostly conjugated estrogens and finasteride/spironolactone) and anxiolytic medications. Except, of course, during the periods of the year I was in Texas tending to my dying father. Which was part of what made this year so tough.
Financially, 2018 has been disastrous. The last year where I lost this much money to insurance headaches was 2015, when I was a target for the forces of truth and honesty in games (argh) for signing my name to petitions alleging that women should be allowed to develop video games. I'm still not entirely sure how I'm going to pay for rent beyond the first three months of 2019, especially given that the foibles of my life have lead to breakups and inability to guarantee that I'll still be employed in California after April or so.
Overall? I'm hoping 2019 is better for me on all these fronts.
Wondering how you can help me? The biggest challenge for me right now is stability of income. When I'm working on interesting full time projects (games, art, programming, or otherwise) it's pretty easy for me to de-stress and manage things like moving or packing my belongings. However, that's not been the case for me since 2015. So if you'd like to help me out, I could use regular comissioners, new people following my patreon, or at least kind words about my art and weird writing. With tumblr finally purging queer creative works as "too adult" and with LJ/DJ/Dreamwidth no longer reliable places to post writing, I have very few outlets that actually pay living wages for my not video games.
I'll likely be reopening for complicated comissions (comics, multiple page things) around mid-January. If you want to reserve a spot, as per usual, just comment on this post saying you're interested and a way to get in touch of you off of Weasyl (email works best for me).
Folks waiting on art from me: I'm hoping to have everything that's marked for delivery by FC shipped or available for at-con pickup by January 16, barring unexpected travel delays or further medical issues impacting me or my family. thank you again for your patience in 2018. Now let's all have some joyeuse soirées (or sleep them off, european friends) and bonne années in 2019.
Happy mew deer!
Sadly, Not TFed into Godzilla
General | Posted 7 years agoYes indeed I have seen the news about the large electrical substation accident in Astoria! In fact, it was only about 10-20 blocks from where I’m staying in New York. I heard the pop, lost power (but not internet after the brownout, thankfully) and could smell the O2 and O3 through the window.
A professional acquaintance suggested this be called the Astoria Borealis. Unfortunately, I have not gained superpowers nor transformed into Godzilla thanks to this incident.
I am physically safe, though, and hope that the ConEd folks and the FDNY responders were minimally harmed. Because gosh it made for good memes on Gothamist.

A new (lewd, sad) story and some essays added to weasyl
General | Posted 7 years agoIn the middle of trying to find some old essays that were to be lost to Tumblr, I had time to knock the rust off of an old, sad winter tale that I let sit out in the cold too long. You can read it over at https://www.weasyl.com/%7Eperi/subm.....77/no-neighbor
I also added a bit of a mixed essay or allusive speculative nonfiction from an old writing notebook that I never felt happy enough with to really finish. But since winter is also about letting go of things unfinished until the spring, you can read it on weasyl here https://www.weasyl.com/~peri/submis.....f-affirmations
I'll be adding a few of the old tumblog posts that got positive feedback over there too over the next few weeks. Please take a look and, as always, let me know what you think.

Opening for photos and fursuit commissions in 2019.
General | Posted 7 years agoI will be reopening for commissions of all types, including Fursuits, Sewing, and other assorted technical skills and crafts in 2019.
Responding in this journal or on my weasyl gallery will ensure your spot in my commission queue in 2019.
Pricing information is always more up to date on Weasyl, please see https://sfw.furaffinity.net/journal/7598527/ or https://sfw.furaffinity.net/journal/8962982/ for more information on how to contact me there.
Prices for comissions are subject to change based on the whims of delivery people internationally. If you have a specific deadline for a comic, group shot, or most especially fursuit, please be sure to leave a comment here that describes exactly what you need and an approximate deadline (within a single calendar Quarter strongly preferred, I can't buy yards of fabric on commission money).
For updates on your spot in my commission queue, please email me directly using the information available on Weasyl, not FA or SoFurry or e621 or your favorite f-list of pornographicxxx unless you recall how to +wixxx on a MUCK older than my apparent age.
All items ship from the United States, as confidentially as possible in my local jurisdiction at time of completion. For orders outside of the エウ、please recall that American banks are not the same as banks within the Eurozone or EU. Payment in full is due at time of shipping, but large and complex orders (especially for non-partial fursuits) require a deposit up front which can cover (at most) the cost of materials.
I will not be open for art trades or other commissions in lieu of payment until after Q2 2019.

peri @ MFF 2018
General | Posted 7 years agoWill be arriving at con on Saturday, 2018/12/01, around 3 PM local.
Hope to be taking photos and talking with writers/artists.
Will have holiday gifts for friends, will NOT be tabling or taking new commissions unless you ask /really/ nice.
Hope to catch up more with the east coast crew, since it is likely I will not be remaining in the SF Bay Area after this year.

Where else to find me
General | Posted 10 years agoLike most of y'all, I'd rather not use FurAffinity 99% of the time these days. You can find me on weasyl at https://www.weasyl.com/~peri and FurryNetwork at https://beta.furrynetwork.com/peri/
I haven't determined which one is going to be better for me, but I certainly have more stuff on Weasyl right now than FN. See you there!

Where to find my writing, photographs, and art
General | Posted 11 years agoHowdy folks,
After TFF I've got a fair amount more followers here than I traditionally do, so I wanted to go ahead and give an update on where you can find my furry art and other work.
If you're interested in the furry works and visual art, your best bet is to look at my weasyl page http://www.weasyl.com/~peri I tend to update there first before FurAffinity or SoFurry.
If you're interested in game development, feel free to talk to me here via comments or notes, but I tend to blog elsewhere for those. I keep a personal blog on games and queer issues which I'm happy to pass along to interested folks.
