Posted a year agoHoppy New Year, everyone!
Posted 3 years agoSo, this is the new year, is it? I don't feel any different, although I did stay up until midnight for the first time since 2016 (albeit alone, at home in my Fortress of Solitude). Mommy and Goey are starting 2023 in Canada (having emigrated back on September 30). How will Daddy end it? I don't know, but I do hope 2023 is a damned sight better than 2022, for myself and all of you. Hoppy New Year, everyone!

Letter from a Facebook jail
Posted 5 years agoFor those also on FB, apparently, posting a picture of Hitler giving a speech with his fist in the air next to a picture of Trump giving a speech with his fist in the air with an accompanying comment that he's looking more and more like his hero by the day will land you in FB jail for 24 hours. So, got another two hours to serve on my sentence...
I REGRET NOTHING!!!
:P
I REGRET NOTHING!!!

Ah, the joys of parenthood...
Posted 5 years agoYou know those signs out in front of companies that tick off the number of days since a lost-work accident? We need to get one of those for Fuss-Fuss, to count the number of days since he turned his crib into a poopatorium. So far it's been a baaaaad week...
I can, however, say that the safest place in the world right now is in his crib. With all the sanitizing we've had to do this week, ain't no coronavirus coming 'round here!

Coronavirus update
Posted 5 years agoWith the State of Ohio and the rest of the country unwisely opening up to a second wave of death, pestilence and economic damage, we're gonna keep on doing the whole stay-at-home and social distancing thing for another two or three weeks. We're gonna go out when respected scientists and epidemiologists say it's safe to go out, not jackass politicians and capitalists wanting to keep their money, power and control. Sorry. We've pretty much been doing the whole stay at home thing for two years now because of our kid, what's a few more weeks? We're safe and healthy now, an' we're looking to keep it that way! Now, if only they're open the freakin' northern border...
Take my money already, Hulu!

My update in a time of peril
Posted 5 years agoBeen a while so figured I'd give an update. Welp, looks like we're gonna be stuck Stateside for the foreseeable future. When the coronavirus outbreak hit fast and heavy and Canada and the US moved quickly to close the northern border, we were unable to escalate our emigration plans ahead of it. Originally, our departure was supposed to be April 24th (a date we set back in December), and I suppose it still is. But think everything will clear up and they'll reopen the border by then? We don't think so, either. So, we're stuck.
Michi was furloughed from her retail job a little over three weeks ago. At first, the company was going to keep her pay going, but after a week of that they decided against it until the (supposedly) 26th, so she's another of the 6+ million people out of work and out of pay. Still waiting on the documentation to begin the unemployment compensation process, and a good luck on that one since Ohio's UE system was never designed to handle this much of a crush of people.
As for me, I'm still pulling in my 40 at my work. Since my company was deemed an essential business, it's still open. But the activity in my department has slowed down so much, I can't help but wonder how much longer I can expect to keep coming in when I can finish everything and be done by lunch. We're getting no direction at all from the CEO; we're rather of the opinion that he's waiting to see what kind of a handout he can get from the Feds.
Our little Fuss-fuss is still as happy and entertaining a toddler as always, growing bigger and heavier and smarter and more independent by the day. While mommy and daddy worry about keeping pestilence out of our household, money in our bank account, and trying not to go insane with anxiety/exhaustion over it all (and with each other), he in his childhood innocence is completely oblivious to it all. Just wants to play and explore, especially outside now that the weather is finally turning.
Seeing how life is still pretty much same-old, same-old from my point of view, until I get furloughed time for new arts remains virtually nil. If my hours are cut, there's more than enough stuff to do around the house vis-a-vis housework, yardwork and work on Betty. On the latter especially I've had to scale back my spring pre-cruise-in continuous improvement initiatives that I do on that car every year. Whereas before I had plans on replacing her windshield or replacing her A/C compressor and restoring her ice-cold air, now looks like I'll be dropping that in favor of replacing her driver's door armrest, patching her front seat, restoring her body trim and sheet metal work since those materials are already in-hand and paid for. Somewhere in there will be new artwork and new cartoons. I am determined to see "April's Project" through to its conclusion.
Well, that's it for now. So far so good (and healthy and safe) with us. Hopefully all of you can be so as well. Laters!

Update on emigration
Posted 6 years agoFor those following along at home, things are progressing at an increasing pace. Joey's citizenship paperwork finally came back, designating him an official, genuine, bona fide Canadian citizen. Michelle's social insurance (aka social security on this side of the border) has been reactivated, allowing her to transfer jobs seamlessly between here and T-dot. Michelle's work successfully put in a request to transfer her from Cinci to their Oshawa Eddie location. There is no position currently available up there as they've just now shed their seasonal workers left over from Christmas shopping season, but being an already tenured, respected EB EE means she's top of the list of possibles when one becomes open. We've firmed up a departure date of late April with the host family, and are gelling an arrival schedule and itinerary now, as well as working out other final pre-departure details. Time is moving quick!
Some thoughts on the new year.
Posted 6 years agoSo this is the new year, is it? I don't feel any different, as Death Cab For Cutie sings in "The New Year." At the very end of 2018 I couldn't help but feel that the coming new year would be one of phenomenal change. On some levels, it was, when you consider our finalizing plans for emmigration. But after seeing the past year or past decade remembrances on other people's social media feeds, I can't really follow suit. Certainly the biggest thing that actually happened to us in the past 10 years is the birth and raising of our own little Fuss-fuss in 2017. But other than that, things become hazy. Some areas of our lives became deteriorated, others built up.
But regardless, looking back on 2019 it seems to me that it was a precursor year...a build-up year...a warm-up act year before the headlining act year. So, 2020 could be the year that all the machinery of planning and preparation and hopes and dreams and fears finally gets set into motion. With any luck - and hope - on January 2, 2121 we can look back on this year and wonder H the everliving F did we ever make it through - but sooooooo glad that our journey was made, and now enjoy the fruits of all our labor and sacrifice. Happy New Year, everyone!

An emigration update for those wondering...
Posted 6 years agoThe wait for Joey's Canadian citizenship certificate continues, and so the wait for his and mommy's leaving continues. The very earliest that we would have heard back is now, so the Wonka-ian Golden Ticket should come any day now. On Friday before last Michelle got a FedEx envelope from the Canadian government saying that since her social security number has been inactive for more than five years, she needs to fill out X form and return, which she did and returned via FedEx on the following Saturday. That documentation allows her to transfer her Eddie job seamlessly to Oshawa.
So yeah, unless something unexpected happens, we're resigning to the notion that Thanksgiving and even Christmas may be spent on this side of the border. Which is unfortunate because my Silly Girl is getting VERY restless. But what can we do? The waiting continues...

Go north, young man!
Posted 6 years agoBeen quite a while since I posted anything here, hasn't it? Life's always busy when you have a toddlin' toddler to chase around (he's doing well, as is mommy), so no new artwork on the horizon. What IS on the horizon, however, is a pending change of address.
For the benefit of those not on Facebook and who haven't heard our big news yet, we've been delaying saying anything because there are a few people we wanted to tell personally first before we told the rest of the world, but life keeps getting in the way (illness, weather, busy schedules, etc). The time has come, though, where we need to say this.
We knew when Joey was born, he'd be a force of change. We just didn't know in what capacity it would be or how soon it would start. The last two years have been rough, to say the least, especially in terms of how little support we've gotten. There have been a handful of people who have helped us when they could and we'll be forever grateful to them. The time has come, however, where change is needed. As much as we feared the change, it has come time for it to happen.
We've been given an opportunity that we just couldn't pass up and we've decided to roll with it. We're moving to Canada. In May, we applied for Proof of Canadian Citizenship for Joey. This month, we sent off paperwork for myself regarding my social insurance number. Paperwork is currently being filled out for Paul to apply for Permanent Residency. We do have a time frame that we're working with, but since we're dealing with several government agencies, that time frame may change as we go. As much as we hate to leave behind the life we've created, the time has come for a new one to begin.
And here's the M. Night Shyamalan plot twist to our story that you probably didn't see coming: the primary driver of our emigration is actually NOT political or economic. It's social.
Don't get me wrong. It's true that we see no good future ahead for the US if we stay, and although we want to get out while we can and while it's on our own terms, what was truly causing stress and anxiety to build in our little household was the lack of support. It only looked political because the effects of child-raising and the effects of the Trump administration ran side by side, and I posted far more about the political side on social media.
As mentioned above, we do have a rough outline worked out for our eventual leave. Joey's certificate of Canadian citizenship won't arrive until at least late October, so the earliest we could leave is early November. Thanks to the unbelievable generosity of some truly amazing people in Oshawa, ON, we have secured a temporary home until we can obtain work and permanent housing and can stand on our own feet there. Michelle and Joey will emigrate first, with me remaining behind to sell the house and move belongings.
Since you generally don't want to move in the middle of winter - especially up there - I probably won't move until Spring 2020. Once Michelle and Joey are set up with new digs, I will be moving our stuff to them gradually, over the following weeks and months as I wait for my chance to follow. Small stuff like pictures, books, DVDs and the like I can use my UPS shipping access at work. For larger stuff I can rent a van or truck and make weekend trips. The hope is when my turn comes, all I'll need is one U-Haul box truck for the remainder and a trailer for Betty (my '71 Buick). Course, if Trump and the GOP manage to crater the economy and put me out of work, the timetable will be moved up considerably, but the hope is we'll be able to do a gradual move for a minimum of stress.
Finally, where will we be moving to? We want to live in the Greater Toronto area, on either the east or west side of town due to the extremely high cost of living in the city proper. But the final, actual destination remains unknown at this point since it wholly depends on where my Silly Girl finds a place. Thanks to family and friends already in the GTA, advice and suggestions as to good locations won't be hard to find.
So, that's it! The next chapter in our life's story is coming. If you can substitute "go north" for "go west" here, this is pretty much our anthem right now. :)

In other events (since I'm rarely able to post here anymore), things are good, things are busy, and Joey's good and getting big! He's a full-fledged toddler now, smart, entertaining, climbs on everything...a happy little Fuss-fuss all around, Not quite walking fully independently yet, tho he can for short distances. Oh, he knows how, just like we think he has a larger vocabulary than he lets on. He's just stubborn and does things the Joey Way, as he did from before he was born.
Art wise, I'm like Miles Davis in his Silent Period. I have nothing going on and I'm planning nothing (since this daddy gig takes what little free time I had). Once Joey gets older and more autonomous, tho, hopefully I'll get some free time back and start drawing again.
Until then,
Cheers! :)

Does this make me a bad father?
Posted 8 years agoOkay, so, I was wearing this T-shirt the other day, right ( http://shirtigo.co/too-early/ )? Joey was in with mommy at the time, and as soon as I came into the room and he saw it, he immediately started staring at it - HARD. Right away he seemed ambivalent about how he felt about it.
At some point I went off to get lunch and my Michi went about giving Joey his bath. After eating I went to visit them, now freshly out of the bathroom and getting baby dried off. Very soon he spotted my T-shirt again, and immediately started BAWLING his eyes out!! I mean, full on meltdown! - at a time he's normally a very happy baby! Suddenly it seemed daddy was scaring the crap out of him, without doing a thing! So, went back in the bedroom and changed shirts, and after mommy got him calmed down and soothed, he was happy to have daddy around again.
This is a first - him being terrorized by a bunny on a shirt!

Had to take the day off work today
Posted 8 years agoTo take care of little Joey since Michi's working and our babysitter had to cancel due to a family emergency. So, got the house cleaned and may get back to my drawing table once I'm done researching emigration to Canada and finding Buick parts for Betty. A detour past Facebook found me this, which I thought interesting. A club exclusively for preds in Zootopia as a possible storyline for Nick Wilde was mentioned in a book I have about the movie, but this really expands on the idea. Enjoy! :)

Things are starting to happen...
Posted 8 years agoRebroadcasted, since I know most of you are not on my Facebook Critters cartoony page, or otherwise away from my ragin' Cajun liberal FB ranting and raving and general news-sharing...
Before you ask, regretfully, no - I don't have any new artwork to show you guys. As I wrote in my last post, Michi was about six months pregnant with our first. And well, now she's nine, and with two weeks to go, it's all hands on deck as far as getting ready for the new arrival!
Art-wise, suffice it to say that I simply don't know when I'll be getting back to my drawing desk again. Right now my focus is getting ready for the birth. After that, who knows? Certainly I'll be taking some weeks off for paternity leave, but with a new baby I can't even begin to say what I'll be doing or when I'll be doing it, or even why with that down time (except for changing dirty diapers and seeing what it's like to function without sleep). But rest assured, I'll still commit pencil to paper when I'm able. It's just a matter of time.
Until then, thanks for visiting, thanks for the support, and see you next time!

What's up?
Posted 8 years agoBeen a while, hasn't it? Still lurking about, trying to keep my account from being overrun with journal entries and pictures and such. Also parsing down my watch list a notch by getting rid of all the Islamaphobes and other such racists that seemed to have collected there. It's kinda like maintaining a garden; ya gotta keep up with your weeding otherwise it'll get overgrown, you know? Then it takes twice as long to get back under control.
Michi's now up to nearly 28 weeks (a little over 6 months) into the pregnancy gig and GROWING! She has a small build to begin with, so this just makes her belly and boobs look even bigger than they otherwise would with someone of more average height. Interestingly enough, I seem to have developed a rather passing interest in pregnancy pics here, no doubt in the same manner as those who work for a car dealership takes an increased notice in the make they sell, or someone who works for an office equipment dealer takes an increased notice in the copiers and printers they see. We just had an appointment with the OB today and things are coming along just fine. And thanks to our friend-family, our pending baby needs like furniture, clothing and the like - the godmother is even offering to deck out the nursery! - are coming along just fine as well.
Speaking of of autos, the Old Man And The Gun movie shoot with Betty didn't pan out, but I'm determined to get her fully restored and looking new before the baby comes. I have a network of car show pals who would be able to recommend someone, but getting together with those guys isn't nearly as it was in 2013 when we were probably at our most active, and so nailing a meeting time with that bodywork guy remains elusive. Instead, I'm thinking of joining the Buick Club of America and see if I can't build a whole new network of possible leads and friends that way.
Art-wise, I'm still trying to get back to my drawing table, and I'm hoping to actually do so this weekend if my stars align. Two things remain keeping me away: my job as a career wage slave for Corporate America (you spend most of your waking hours at work, if you work full time), and cleaning. I'm pretty much the one responsible for cleaning the house anyway (which takes up precious time on the weekends), and as Michi gets bigger with baby and tires out more easily, I have to step up and take over more and more of the house duties, which in turn means even less time devoted to drawing. Savvy? But worry not - the intention is definitely there.
Until next time! :)

Latest news of this bunny's world
Posted 8 years agoSince I don't post many details on my daily goings-ons here (typically save all that for Facebook since that's where all my closest family/friends are). So, let's see...
Latest bit o' news, on Sunday I found out that Betty is now enshrined in the International Movie Car Database from our work on Miles Ahead! Here's her entry: http://www.imcdb.org/vehicle_101001.....abre-1971.html
Full roster of cars in Miles Ahead here: http://www.imcdb.org/movie.php?id=790770
Been wanting to get a sceenshot of her ULed to the IMCDb since before the movie came out, but turns out someone already did the previous week. Last weekend I also finally realized my wanting to get a 1971 suit to go with my 1971 car when I hit up a local vintage clothing store. No, it's not a leisure suit or some other ugly-patterned article. My taste in businesswear tends on the classy, traditional style. So, my outfit reflects that, and in fact depending on the application, might even get away with wearing it today without attracting a whole lot of attention! Got a sport coat, pants, shirt and tie all for $58. Trying to piece one together from the thrift store would have cost half that, but this one is fully vintage and period-appropriate.
This suit may serve me well if we get chosen to be in this new movie slated to begin filming in Cinci. I submitted Betty's glossy at a casting call, but haven't heard back yet. Not unusual, since every production company does things different. Hopefully we can do this movie and it's more like Miles Ahead than The Life And Death Of John Gotti.
I had intended to get back to my drawing table over the weekend, but seeing how it was Michi's birthday weekend (actual birthday Mar. 9), things didn't exactly go to plan. With all this other stuff going on art output comes in fits and starts, but at least I'm still coming up with ideas. Will try again this week.
And speaking of Michi, she's expecting! Due date: 9-11. Such a dark, yet momentous and pivotal date in American history, we know. But the way we look at it, maybe our kid will be a momentous and pivotal figure in American history in the future. That is, if there's still a country left by then or we're still living in it... :)
And that's the news of the day. This is Peter Bunny, signing off.

Portland, OR furs take notice!
Posted 8 years agoI've always felt that NBC's show Grimm was the ultimate furry-oriented show, what with transformation from human to some kind of animal as being THE primary theme of the show. Don't know if furs felt that way, but I always had to figure that there was a sizable number of them who followed the show. Sadly, production has ended and the final few eps of the series are near.
However, props and especially all those animal masks and accouterments will now be for sale in Portland TONIGHT! So, if you're looking to complete your fursuit or own a piece of your favorite show, here's your chance! Too bad I have no way of making it to Portland; that Peter Rabbit/bunny vesson ep is a particular fave of mine...

Found: century-old bunny headstone
Posted 9 years agoAw, bunneh...
When my own Babsie bun died I had to make her headstone out of wood, but if I had the money, you know I would'a done it up in stone like this! A cute story about a well-loved bunny owned by a rich family.

Merry Christmas and Hoppy Holidays, everyone!
Posted 9 years agoHere's to good cheer and I hope you're spending the day exactly as you're wanting.
Was gonna try and have a Christmas pic done and released today, but in the (very possible) off chance I wasn't able to, figured I'd at least send a message out.

Just another "I'm still around!" post
Posted 9 years agoHadn't posted anything in a while, so figured I would. Nothing out of the ordinary, just been busy with RL stuff. Although I don't have anything YET, I still have a few items in various stages of completion including: the next episode of Critters (of course), a new av piccie, a Halloween pic, a new music pic, and maybe even a rather naughty pic of April, depending.
Why the lag in output? Because I have a life away from the keyboard. I'm a Corporate America wage slave M-F, get home about 5:30-6 depending on whether I stay extra to work on my little copier scrap operation...minus time to make dinner, eat dinner and clean up after dinner (no mechanical dishwasher for us, just human power), and I have about 1.5 to maybe 2 hours max in the evening to do whatever - be it shopping, errand-running, gas-running, lawn-cutting or parent-visiting. Or, I'm simply too tired by then and not feeling creative enough to draw. Friday nights from spring until fall, I like to get Betty out and hang out with either my cruise-in car pals or my indie alt-rock music snob pals for free concerts downtown.
On Saturdays, my wife and I sleep in...and usually a great deal more than that which I'm not at liberty to discuss (we're bunnies - you can figure it out). By the time we're up and eaten and ready for the day, it could be 2 or even 3 in the afternoon. Then comes the weekly house-cleaning. We lived like utter slobs when we lived in an apt. before we got married. Now that we got a house that we like in a neighborhood that we like, we like to keep it up, savvy? And guess who pretty much does all the cleaning? Yep, that would be me. Whatever time I have in the late afternoon I usually spend taking care of the stuff that I couldn't get done during the week. Or, we'll go out in the evening for a night out (which we'll be doing as long as we're able to until kids come along).
Sundays start off the same as Saturdays, and usually wind up with the same itinerary. In the evening I like to unwind and shut things down early, and start thinking about bedtime when 9pm rolls around.
Come Monday, repeat the cycle.
So, there you have it. I'll get artwork done when I can, but that art time also competes against my car show/cruise-in time, CW re-enacting time, model railroad time, music time and going out time. Live is too short to stay cooped up inside hunched over a desk or in front of a glowing screen. I prefer to spend mine making the most out of the pre-kid time I have left.
