I think I have a pretty good idea of the style of it, now. Definitely the role of an investigator in some sense. I saw another CYOA that involved setting a lot of stats at chargen, but I think that's too complicated for my purposes. But it DID make me consider the player gaining mutations through the adventure (though too many will probably mean a bad ending!).

Right now I'm stuck trying to decide on the setting, though. I want a few locations and of course characters that become corrupted.

But... Fantasy-style town? A modern thing, as a detective, more lovecraftian maybe? Or a sci-fi epic, investigating on a spooky space station?

If you could play an interactive text game involving a town growing, would you prefer to be playing the entity corrupting them or purifying them?

I'm pondering ideas again, and as always I'm torn between the different ways to approach it. I have a feeling a lot of people here would prefer to do the corruption, but personally I think the idea of fighting against the clock to find the source of corruption and stop it, while the environment grows all the more crazy meanwhile.

I do also have an idea for the corruption, namely have the protagonist be a diety of transformation reborn (who has to build up their powers and transform their followers). This option suffers more from the curse of variables, though - in that case I would almost certainly have to allow many different transformation, and having to allow for conflicting descriptions/transformations would be hell to write/code.

I did consider (at least for the purifying angle) that you'd get to set a specific flavor of transformation at the start of the game (macro growth, hermification, etc...) and have that constant during the game, just becoming *more* as the corruption intensifies.

I've gone completely away from trying to do combat in these sort of things, because I just can't make it engaging enough (and I'm not going to invent some brilliant system). So I'm aiming for a more investigative approach, and hope to play around with some of the special functions in Twine for hiding secrets in plain sight.

(Keep in mind that the scope for this is limited. It's supposed to have a number of areas to explore and NPCs that will grow/transform in various ways. The gameplay is mainly going to be exploration of the environment (and maybe a couple of choices here and there).

Thanks for the feedback in my last journal. :>

I was tinkering with the idea of doing a sort of Choose Your Own Adventure sort of thing, since I don't have as much time to write longer stories at the moment. Thus, I'll put in a poll at the end of the chapter for what should happen next. (I havn't decided exactly how to do it - if I should allow suggestions, or just come up with them myself).

In any case, this makes me consider what the point of view should be for the story. The grower, a companion to the grower, or something else? I know that I tend to be wishy washy, preferring one over the other according to my mood.

So! I want to know your opinion. Obviously, any story would be about a lot of growth, though the nature of this I will leave open for now. I have a few ideas I might proceed with - but I'm not sure if I'll use Phen or not. The first point of order here is to figure out the PoV!

Hi gang.

While I'm finishing up the short story I mentioned last weekend, I was inspired to dredge up and repair another that have been sitting on my harddrive for a few months. It's the one that prompted me to get a breast-expansion sequence of the protagonist, a space pirate called Zara. I want to get back into this one and finish it.

I'm looking for any sort of feedback that you can give me. Too much/too little setup/etc. When I was working on it last and got to the sex-scene, something felt off to me, but I couldn't put my finger on any one thing and I abandoned it. I'm thinking of rewriting the entire sex scene, maybe framing it differently.
I also thought to change Zara's species a little bit - in the story, she's addicted to body-enhancing drugs (essentially giving temporary hyper growth), but aside from that I wanted to make her species known for their sexual prowess. To add to that, I thought of making it so that they have a limited amount of transformative capability, changing subtly to whatever their partner prefers and thus making them more attractive to even a diverse crowd.

Audience participation time!

I'm currently finishing up a silly hyper story involving Phen and public transportation. The viewpoint is a normal guy (could also be a lady, but in the WIP it's a dude), who's not at all used to seeing hyper folks up close, and gets quite shocked by it.

I'm offering up the chance to get your character to be this viewpoint protagonist. The character must be 'mundane' (no macro, hyper, or the like) and remain so. I will not accept characters that are too complex in looks/species, either. No sex is involved, but there is a dramatic escape sequence.

With these restrictions in mind, you can submit your character below, and I'll take a random pick after the weekend.

I'm playing with some ideas amidst a very busy part of my life, and I thought I'd see what the consensus is. In a story, do you prefer the main character/point of view to be a normal person or the hyper-growing one?

I have some ideas for another experiment in Twine, and debating if the main character should be hyper or just instigate hyper.

I hit the very relevant question of what sort of world the hyper fighting game would be set in. There should be a reason that you go out and beat up a lot of people! Is it because they are corrupted somehow? Is it just a super competitive world?

The idea, at least at the beginning areas, is to have opponents passively stand around until you attack them. Later, I might introduce more dangerous areas that force combat. But given that people will be 'passive' even in the wilds, there ought to be a good reason for attacking them. (Corruption might be the most obvious choice.)
