Posted 9 years ago7 months ago I debuted my new fursuit by Made Fur You at BLFC 2016. It was the most overwhelming and exciting trip of the decade for me. I was elated beyond comprehension--floating on cloud 9, ecstatic, doped up on the prospect of hopping on a $150 plane ride and seeing my best friends 4000 miles away. California was my drug. I couldn't escape a pulsing feeling that the magic was that much closer. I couldn't sleep on the plane... not even a wink. The nostalgia imprisoned by my estranged East Coast sentiments were freed at the last work email sent to my boss on $2.95 worth of Wifi. 5 hours past and our 757 pulled into the tarmac, I was greeted by a stuffy nose and a cool 74. It could be none other than the Golden State.
I saw friends, family, and my home which, in reality, hadn't altered in shape as much as it had form and function. Pure bliss; it was like returning home to a new puppy. The atmosphere changed on the surface, but a few layers deep and I was reminded that despite wherever you end up, at your crux you will always be the person you were when you were younger. My friends smiled the same way they did nearly a decade ago. I couldn't help but shake the foreboding sensation of hope surging through my veins. I would move back to this place--whether physically or emotionally, I would invest a piece of me out west. And so I did. 3 trips later and I'm planning the fourth. The fifth. The sixth.
Rewind 6 months... December held my first trip to Cali and Arizona since I was 16 and was "dragged" Eastbound. With poppies, beaches, and sunshine on the brain, I made a pact to myself; travel is the essence of human experience. At the very core of it lies a person's will to venture to places he's never seen or seen, never dreamt of or dreamt of. It tantalizes the fabric of his curiosity, it whisks him off to new lands--and most importantly, it cultures him. Adaptation and implementation are two of my favorite aspects of delving deeper past your comfort zone to enlighten oneself by immersing yourself in various cultures. A new way of living sparks new inspiration.
My pact was simple: travel at every opportunity I can.
The mentality I forged soon became my modus operandi, ingrained in the inner weave of my soul to become an indispensable part of my morality. It evolved past the original message to springboard into something truly magical: travel well, travel often, and travel within your means.
I will spare you the details. Basically, I shrouded my philosophy in the perks of cheap travel (hard to argue against a $250 round trip ticket out of the country).
I can say with the utmost joy that from the end of 2015 until this day, December 8th, 2016, I have spent every weekend of this year in a new locale, traveling to new heights, new sights, and seeing new horizons. Not one day did I waste doing "the usual" -- every day was an exciting adventure. From Washington DC to New Hampshire, from Orlando, FL to Virginia Beach, from Alabama to Pennsylvania, from Los Angeles to San Salvador... and Cozumel, Coasta Maya, Belize, Honduras, Atlanta, New York, Delaware, New Jersey, Washington, and much, much more. I couldn't have done this without the love and support from my friends and family. You guys helped me fly all over the world to cultivate myself into the person I am today.
Here's to 2017 being a year where I venture outside of the Americas to see even more sights. While I will have to tone down the traveling, I will be focusing more intensely on the quality of each trip rather than the quantity.
I can never forget a year ago when I was asked during a job interview, "What do you do in your free time?" I answered, "I travel." The interviewer laughed at me saying, "That's a typical answer..."
I didn't get the job. But after reflecting on the outcome, I'm glad I didn't. I can't help but chuckle about how a year has fulfilled that nervous, reflexive answer into 52 weekends of legitimacy. Weekends filled with the best adventures and people that are relative to me based on availability, not distance.

Crash space at Anthrocon 2015?
Posted 10 years agoHey, does anyone have floor space at AC'15? The only luggage I'm bringing is my suit / clothes. I plan on staying (hopefully) Friday to Monday if work permits it. It's the weekend before my birthday so why the hell not.
If you do, I'll pay my fair share and help contribute booze / fun times!
However, there's still a chance that I might not be going; things will be up in the air until the week before. If you have a small corner of the room not occupied, you have 4-5 roommates already and don't mind adding another to further cut costs, sign me up!

Posted 12 years agoI will be attending both this year since A) I'll have the dosh by then after rigorously frugal saving (IE working 2 jobs and having a vending machine diet) and B) I don't want to miss out on getting to see some of my friends since not everyone is able to make it to both conventions. Posted 12 years agoI did it. I'm officially a college graduate with a B.A. in Conflict Analysis and Dispute Resolution. It's been a long, strenuous, and ultimately life-changing journey. My resilience and determination highlight the accomplishments I've made and the rigorous tasks I've overcome. Each milestone cultivated a greater yearning to learn and succeed, refining my talents, instilling a rekindled sense of ambition within me, enveloping me with the support I needed, and redefining myself to become who I am today. Fur the 'More Recap
Posted 12 years agoIf there was a word in English dictation that encapsulated a thrilling sensation of stark awe, disbelief, exuberance, and persistent excitement enmeshed together with surprising fluidity, it would have to be "bazooper." FM 2013 was bazooper for me.
Reconnecting with old friends and meeting new ones, this con was the perfect redemption for the past few months of bullshit I had to put up with. Unlike previous conventions where I felt rushed in preparation or irresponsible for missing classes, Fur the 'More eased its way nicely into my schedule where I had no obligations to worry about, school work to stress over, or classes to skip. On the contrary, I aced an exam and a quiz, finished the entirety of a group presentation powerpoint by myself, and finished a lot of side projects before the con, putting me in a pacified state of cool confidence and unbridled elation.
Roughly 3 hours on the road, a trip to a furry con has never passed by so quickly. The adventure started off strong with catching at a Wawa in Salisbury. The rest will be categorized chronologically (to the best of my recollection) and will be continually tweaked when I think of more events, so be sure to check back every so often.

Reconnecting with old friends and meeting new ones, this con was the perfect redemption for the past few months of bullshit I had to put up with. Unlike previous conventions where I felt rushed in preparation or irresponsible for missing classes, Fur the 'More eased its way nicely into my schedule where I had no obligations to worry about, school work to stress over, or classes to skip. On the contrary, I aced an exam and a quiz, finished the entirety of a group presentation powerpoint by myself, and finished a lot of side projects before the con, putting me in a pacified state of cool confidence and unbridled elation.
Roughly 3 hours on the road, a trip to a furry con has never passed by so quickly. The adventure started off strong with catching
at a Wawa in Salisbury. The rest will be categorized chronologically (to the best of my recollection) and will be continually tweaked when I think of more events, so be sure to check back every so often.Friday
